Dairy State Cheese....what an amazing store! You can watch the cheese curds being made, buy them shortly after being made, still warm and they squeak when eating them. The squeak is like the bouquet of a fine wine....the sign of excellence....according to Wisconsin standards. They have more varieties of cheese than I can count along with fresh butter, Braunschweiger, Summer Sausage and a small ice cream store and more. Around Christmas expect long lines, customers purchase by the box load and gift fresh cheeses and sausages. A stop to the "Cheese Factory" isn't complete with a visit to the ice cream shop and enjoy a scoop or two in a cone or dish. read more

Dairy State Cheese - Cheese Shops Near Me - Rudolph, Wisconsin

Took relatives from out of town (Florida) here to find great Wisconsin cheese to gift--and to sample ourselves--and they loved it! There's a wide selection of cheeses, very friendly staff, and we were pleasantly surprised to find ice cream too, which was delicious. The viewing area was closed due to expansion, but that just gives us a great reason to visit again in the future. Highly recommend! read more

Always stop when im in town just the best squeaky curds around don't know how to explain it... it's better than most

Completely different from prior ownership (which was local). -No more fresh cheese curds (they buy and resell from another Dairy) High prices as a reseller vs a producer (previously fresh and low priced) Totally different vibe... it was a must stop and now is a hard pass. As someone who has been there literally hundreds of times... save your time and go elsewhere. Sad read more

Poor Service! We bought cheese and it was great. However, I am giving a low rating as we stopped mainly to purchase ice cream for our 92 year old mom - celebrating her bday that day! The hours posted said they were open until 4pm and we walked in at 3:40pm, the ice cream shop part of the store was open, but they wouldn't serve because they were closing. We kindly asked for our 92 yo mom who recently had a stroke (big outing today) and they said, no. Seriously? Very disappointing.Get there at 2pm if you want ice cream! Who knows when they really close!! read more

Always a must when I am visiting home!! I love getting fresh squeaky cheese curds and lots of other cheeses from here. Sometimes it's hard to decide with so many different kinds of cheese. Definitely stop here if you're in Wisconsin! read more

Since this company was bought out by some cheese maker in Illinois, they stopped selling there own cheese curds. They order them from some other cheese maker. So you can't get the good ones anymore. Most of the time they run out. This current owner doesn't have any idea what a stupid move that was. read more

Since the new owners have taken over this cheese store, it has gone down hill. Inventory has decreased and prices have gone up. Bare cases are the norm. It's very disappointing. read more

Can't say that I'm biased, but this place is very nostalgic for me as I've been going here since I was an infant while up at the family cabin. The selection/variety of cheeses and other products is overwhelming, and every product I've purchased here has been outstanding! A must have for me is the combo bag, baby Swiss, and let's not leave out the CURDS!! In this life, I find it hard to top the taste of fresh, warm & squeaky curds with a scoop of blue moon ice cream! Keep it up Dairy State! Much love and appreciation for all that you do! -Cheers! read more

Excellent products. But you just for it. This is one of those rare places where it's with every piece

They have a very large selection of specialty cheese as well as your common cheddar, Colby, and Swiss.

This place is an absolute gem. We live in Madison, so it is about a 2 hour drive for us, but it was completely worth the drive. Since it is a bit far for us, I suggested we make this an annual trip, but honestly, it was so much fun that we are definitely to go more than once. When we arrived, the first thing I noticed was how crowded it was. We first did a walk through of all the available cheese before choosing what to put in our basket. I would like to note that they only accept cash and check. The gas station down the block has an atm, but a charge to withdraw cash. The amount and variety of cheese they have is what Wisconsin is all about. We spent $80 and got almost 20 different cheeses. Refer to picture. What a deal. They make absolute wonderful, special christmas gifts too. We got paneer, limburger spread, flavored cheddar, aged and white cheddar, brie, string cheese, and gouda. Especially excited to cook with the paneer. This place embodies Wisconsin's cheese culture and pride in our dairy. It was a really special treat. read more

Wisconsin's best cheese! A busy and bustling place every time we visit! Along with fresh cheese products, it is a great place for education. Love to watch them making fresh cheese curds! One of my favorite places in all of WISCONSIN -- legit cheese factory! The cheese selection is amazing and the staff are super friendly!

Used to like all their cheeses have noticed that flavors and textures are changing, Longhorn has differnt flavor and mild cheddar we just purchased is soft like american cheese and very little flavor. read more

If you are within an hour of Rudolph for any reason, I need you to drop whatever you're doing and drive to the Wisconsin Dairy State Cheese factory immediately. It's a completely overwhelming place due to the huge variety, but the upside is that even if you basically black out from joy like I did, it's so cheap that when you emerge from your haze at the register it won't set you back anything close to what the same haul would at a grocery store. The factory store offers their own stock plus that of other cheesemakers. You can buy cheese by the block, in curd form, wedges, strings, spreads, and even in wax shapes ranging from corn cobs to dinosaurs to football players. You can also buy cream cheese and butter. On my first trip last weekend I got hot pepper Monterey jack, garlic Monterey jack, Dutch-style gouda, cranberry Monterey jack, smoky cheddar, aged asiago, aged sharp white cheddar, cream havarti, aged cheddar spread, cream cheese, and cinnamon honey butter. The total lot (around 6 pounds of cheese) set me back $27. That spread is dangerous, as is the smoky cheddar. I'm excited to try the cream cheese as I've only ever had the mass-produced variety. I may have walked out with a ridiculous amount of cheese, but at such low prices it was hard to say no. I easily could have walked out with double, but since we were camping there was only so much room in our cooler. I can't wait to go back, though, to try some other varieties! read more

AMAZING place for your CHEESE fix! On a recommendation from my Yelp community manager, I made the trip up to check this place out. I'm so glad I did. I was very prepared and brought an empty cooler and ice for the long trip home. This place takes CASH or CHECKS ONLY. This place was packed with people on a Sunday at 11am. They close at noon on Sundays. They had two long lines of people checking out, but the lines went pretty quick. Some people were standing in line and shopping at the same time. That was a great idea. I felt as though I was shopping the day after Thanksgiving! They have a lot of cheese options. They make a lot of different types of cheeses themselves (and a lot of flavored varieties). They have lots of spreadable cheeses, decoratively shaped blocks of cheeses (Bucky and others), some specialty cheeses from other cheese makers, cheese curds (plain and flavored), maple syrup, honey, beef sticks (lots of options), shredded cheese, sliced cheeses, blocks of cheeses, goat cheese, Italian and Mexican cheeses and so so so much more. They have salted, unsalted and whipped butters. They have whey protein powder that is awesome in frozen fruit smoothies. Their prices are ridiculously CHEAP! I filled my cooler to the brim and spent $60. They do have an ice cream area and the cones looked amazing too. read more

Dairy State Cheese - Cheese Shops Near Me - Rudolph, Wisconsin

My parents have a cabin in the area, so they stop in every time they're up. After hearing them go on and on about how awesome this place is, I was excited to finally be able to check it out for myself. When you walk in, the store is to the right- filled with pretty much any kind of cheese you can imagine! To the left is the ice cream shop- with a wide variety of flavors. And it's SO inexpensive and GOOOOD! For 3 double scoop cones, and one single dish- only cost $8. You can head up a flight of stairs to view a video of the cheese making process, and also to get a good look at the factory below. The only con I have about this place- the video they show is VERY dumbed-down and corny. Yes, it explains the general process of cheese making so that people of all ages will be able to understand, but it felt to me like it was leaving out some important information and bounced around to different segments too frequently. The quality of the cheese, ice cream, and service totally makes up for that, though!! read more

Simply the best cheese factory in the world. Having sampled cheese from around the world, I can say without a doubt that this place is tops. The cheese curds, of which there are many varieties, are of the highest quality, always squeaking when eaten and bursting with flavor. The mozzarella and parmesan make excellent pasta toppings, and the string cheese is superb in its peel-back appeal. Also enticing is the fudge, which comes in a couple flavors, and the offerings from other dairies, including flavored butters, sausages, international cheeses, and more. A peculiarity of this retail outlet is their china collection, proudly displayed on the wall in their ice cream parlour. Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co. offers all the classic flavors of scoop ice cream, plus some of the local trends, such as Blue Moon. Don't forget to grab a cone on your way out! read more

When I moved from Wisconsin to Chicago, I left behind my friends and family, and they were nice and all but what I really miss is the cheese factory. I will go out of my way to get to Rudolph and stock up. I was just there and I must have bought over 15 kinds of cheese. Its such good quality and the prices are the best I've seen. Don't forget the chocolate cheese when you go! Only down side is they don't take plastic. read more

There is always an awesome variety of delicious and fresh cheese. I make a visit every time I visit central Wisconsin.

My first time at this paticular factory. Excellant cheese, excellant prices, and very nice people working there. The cheese was all wrapped, but the woman working offered to open a couple of them and let us taste them. My friends and I spent close to $100 and got a ton of cheese! Wish it was closer than an 1 and a half from my house, but it's worth the drive anyway. Awesome cheese curds, still warm. Also, you can watch the cheese being made right from the store, it's very nice. read more

Staff is so friendly & willing to help, just ask. The cheese is fabulous. Great prices. Cash or check only. Will be back again.

Go here and bring cash. AMAZING selection of cheeses at incredible prices! Fresh curds (several different flavors) are up for grabs and there is ice cream in the back. Great business!!! If you are within a few hours drive, it's worth the trip. There are several, local breweries that you can visit while on your journey. read more

When you're from Wisconsin, you know cheese. That means I know cheese, and Wisconsin Dairy State Cheese is second to none! Their specialty is cheese curds and Colby cheese. The curds are made fresh daily, and if you are there in time, they are still warm and super squeaky! The Colby (I like the "fresh" labeled chunks the best) makes a grilled cheese sandwich that is to die for! Yum! You won't be disappointed in making this cheese run. Just be sure to bring cash or checks, as they do not take cards of any kind. read more

Love this place they have a great selection of cheese and the beef sticks are sooo good. My son and I also had a ice cream cone while we were there looking at the chess and I have to say it was the best ice cream ever. The honey is very good to it's pricey but worth it. The smoked guda is my favorite cheese of them all. But they don't take credit or debit wich is sucky but It won't stop me from getting my cheese fix. read more

Every time I go up to visit my family in Wis. Rapids, I beg to go shop at the Dairy State Cheese Factory. The prices are great( compared to Madison). The selection is wonderful. The only problem I encounter is that it is just to packed. the lines wrap around the coolers of cheese and it's hard to shop when you have to squeeze passed people to grab cheese. They are growing to big for their britches. It's not a bad thing.. actually it's a great thing. On Sundays is when I usually make it out there and they claim to close at 12:00pm but when they have 60 people in the store, I'm sure it's hard to close the doors. If there was something I would change. It would be the weekend hours. I know I'm used to places in Madison being open till 9:00 pm on weekends but even keeping open to 6 pm would help the flow of costumers through the door. They take cash or check only. and I can't help but walk out of there with $40.00 worth of cheese to bring back to Madison since it costs to much to buy it here :) read more

I lived up there for all my life and D. S C. has the BEST cheese around. Am living in AZ. right now and still would like to order some of this fine cheese if they could see their way clear to let us order on line--would be more than happy to send a check if we could work it out. Great dairy products for very reasonable prices. I was visiting the area for the world's largest trivia contest- glad I had the good sense to stock up on cheese curds, spicy cheese, and fresh butter while I had the opportunity.
