The best place to get the best cheese. Everything is made on-site daily and the prices cannot be beat.

If you see it, and you like cheese, you're gonna want to pull in. This place is unassuming and nothing special per se, but you're here for cheese. This establishment has processed cheese, Cheese curds, jams/jellies, crackers, etc. The thing here that is awesome is their aged cheddar cheeses and from 10 to, I think, I saw a 20-year-old shard cheddar. All of these cheeses are very reasonably priced. Either way, I need about a couple of pounds of 12-year and some aged brick cheese. They were the best thing ever. I have this on my radar now. Whenever I go to Wausau or Stevens Point, I am hitting this place and stocking up on my cheese.

We just moved north of here but did t mind the 1.5 drive to get there. The cheese is very fresh and low priced. They also offer beef sticks and sausages. They do gift baskets and o line ordering but as any other place you're going to get the best price by driving there. The cheeses we did try were fresh and creamy. They included havarti (black olive, dill, caraway, aged Swiss, longhorn and cheddar. We also bought a sausage that was very tasty. They have a few gift items in the store too.

We visited a few places before deciding to drop into The Nickel Barn. I had seen the signs for it on the way to Eau Claire but wouldn't have imagined I'd end up there. Especially after already having coffee but I figured it was the one time I have to try it and it's my goal to try every coffeehouse in the world... so here we are. The Nickel Barn is literally in a barn. A big red barn. Upon walking inside, you get greeted with a large amount of antiques and a coffee counter in the back right with some ice cream and baked goods to boot. While I was there to try their coffee, I never not look around and this place has some truly unique antique pieces. Tim and I looked around for a bit before ordering coffee. Tim got some kind of refresher and I got my usual americano. We took our drinks to a sitting area where, to our surprise, they had some board games. We took some time to chill out, sip our drinks, and play a few different games. I liked one so much that I ended up buying it a few days later at a board game store in Oakwood Mall. The americano was good. Not super bitter like I typically like but more smooth and mellow. After having an americano a few hours before, it was probably best that I had something with less punch. Tim really liked his drink and wanted something non-caffeinated since he is usually only good for one coffee-type drink a day. Overall, The Nickel Barn was really cool Not a lot I would buy when it comes to antiques since that's not really my vibe but I can vouch for the coffee being really good. Plus, the barista was doing a really good job manning the front counter and the drive-thru window.

The cheese selections are incredible, and they always have a bunch of samples out so you can taste before you commit. The Truffle Gouda is my all-time favorite, with the reserve coming in at a close second place! Everywhere you look, there's food! The employees are friendly, and the service is quick. My kids always get ice cream when we are here, and they have to go visit the cows. There's a playground, a giant jumping pillow, and a track for tricycles. We've never eaten here, but we've taken meals to go plenty of times. We are never disappointed. The restaurant is always busy, and the atmosphere is always full of energy.

The waitress wasn't overly friendly, but whatever; the worst part was not being given straws for huge glasses of soda, or utensils. The best part was the appetizer of deep fried mushrooms. The avocado chicken caesar salad was so-so, it was just that the chicken, cucumbers, croutons, etc., were bland and the caesar dressing was like pale ranch dressing (which was just super odd). The classic burger had a thin, dried out patty. We would not bother to stop again.

One did answer a few questions when asked but other than that it was not very friendly. We use to go to a farm cheese house in southern WI where you could pick out your cheese, they slice it and wrap it to order. This place just has cheese chunks already wrapped in a case. I prefer the order and wrap style. Makes it a more into experience to interact with staff. But I would go back here if in the area.
