The young ladies behind the counter were very pleasant and attentive. You could sample any of the cheeses. I didn't but saw that other customers did. They have a lovely variety of goods. I put a box together to send home to my family. Horseradish pickles, pepper cheese curds, caramels, coffee and beef sticks. Did buy the cheese curds for my stay here as well as beef sticks.... delicious. Have not yet received the box, but am very excited for the delivery. Definitely worth the stop. Being from New England, I am familiar with honey and syrup, so did not need to purchase those, but there were other delights such as homemade soaps, candies, ice cream and kitchen sundries. On a separate note, had I driven here, I would have gone home with one of their beautiful chairs. Love the year-round porch/deck furniture and these were clearly quality chairs. read more

We saw the large billboard traveling East on Highway 29 for Yellowstone Cheese and decided to make a stop. We were coming from California for a wedding in central WI and wanted some good cheese. The beautiful barn showroom and cheese plant was easy to find one mile off the highway, with a little help from Suri. We were impressed with the selection of cheese , ice cream and local products. The counter staff was responsive and informative. The prices were very reasonable, in fact, the lowest price we have ever seen on rich, dark local maple syrup. After viewing the cheese making operation through a window Laverne came out and introduced himself and answered our questions. He graciously gave us generous samples of their cheese. Once home we indulged in their signature Colby Longhorn cheese and were not disappointed. We will be placing a mail order this fall. We left on a warm day with delicious ice cream cones. read more

After just touring Lambeau Field in Green Bay, I was heading to Minneapolis, Minnesota and stumbled upon Yellowstone after viewing a billboard for a fresh Wisconsin cheese farm from the side of the road. I'm a fan of cheese and I thought to myself how could I not pick up some cheese after spending a few days in America's Dairyland?! Yellowstone Cheese is located in the middle of the state of Wisconsin, about 1 mile off the highway in a little town called Cadott, roughly a 2 hour drive from Green Bay. Not only was I buying some fresh homemade cheese for myself as a snack, but since my mother loves cheese as well, I decided to package her some farm fresh Wisconsin cheese as an early Mother's Day gift. For a flat $20 fee, Yellowstone will safely package your cheese in a cold container sealed Priority Mail cardboard box (12 x 3.5 x 14.125). So you can stuff the box with as much cheese as you'd like for $20 which includes taxes and insurances for the perishable cheese if something goes wrong. That was a pretty good deal to have pure Wisconsin cheese sent to my mother's home in South Florida! I bought the cheese on a Friday, it was sent out on Monday and my mother received it on Wednesday...pretty quick with the delivery! One thing to mention, I visited Yellowstone last weekend April 20th, and they actually stop their packaged deliveries of cheese for the season beginning in May. So I was fortunate enough to receive a delivery before the end of their peak season. Once during the month of May, I'm not sure how long they wait until they begin back their packaged deliveries. I would think they wait until autumn, but that's just my guess. Once inside their retail shop (which reminded me of an old fashioned, antique gift store) a gentleman at the front counter assisted me with assembling my package. He let me sample some of Yellowstone's best cheeses and gave me guidance on what he'd recommend for me to purchase. Roughly each package of their cheese cost in the range of $5 - $10. So I bought a big variety for my mom to enjoy. I ended up spending $40 on the cheese and then with the $20 package fee, I spent $60 in total. It was well worth it as I got to enjoy some cheese on my road trip to Minneapolis while getting a cool little Mother's Day gift. Here are a few samples of cheeses Yellowstone offered.....Cajun Cheese (little spicy kick), Onion and Garlic Cheese (my favorite), Pizza Cheese (as you'd expect), Horseradish (not spicy, nice flavor), Vegetable Cheese, Monterey Jack Calico and Mild Cheddar. I also purchased a bag of Cheese Curds (delicious) which are "solid pieces of curdled milk eaten alone as a snack or used in various regional dishes". I'm really glad I decided to stop in at Yellowstone Cheese Farm. It was exciting to enjoy some fresh Wisconsin cheese and makes for a nice gift idea as well. Btw, they're open 9am - 6pm daily, and even Sundays 10am - 5pm. Yellowstone also offers ice cream, homemade jams, crackers, jerkies and a wide variety of unique complements to their homemade cheeses. If you're visiting the area, I certainly recommend stopping by to enjoy some of Wisconsin's finest while supporting a local family's small farm business! read more

Cannot recommend Yellowstone Cheese enough! Yellowstone Cheese is my little taste of home. I used to go here all the time with my dad when I lived back in Jim Falls to try the squeakiest of cheese curds. Now, since I've moved away to Florida, I have their cheese curds shipped to me, to remember home and keep my Wisconsin heart happy. I've even had to start ordering in bulk, just to share with friends after giving them a taste. Now everyone's hooked and I'm constantly asked when we can put in the next order! The cheese here is wonderful, besides the cheese curds, with so many different varieties. They seem to love experimenting and trying out new things. I particularly like the garlic herb cheese. If you want to add something fun to your order, throw in a couple bottles of local honey and pure maple syrup. When my uncle asked what a cheese curd was the staff looked highly annoyed and said "a curd of cheese". Very unfriendly and unhelpful staff! What a wonderful find! Right as we walked in, we were greeted with welcoming smiles! They have a wonderful selection of local wines, maple syrup, honey and other local made items. The selection of cheese's is wonderful! You can sample what is available in the case, and they give you suggestions. We tried the horseradish cheese, Dill pickle and Yellowstone crunch. My Wisconsin native sister in law gave me some squeaky bits of cheese and oh my I was hooked. She calls them CURDS I call them yummy! And when you microwave them for 25 seconds they turn into this yummy goo! So what arrived at my house in a little styrofoam box on ice but 3 bags of cheese curds. Well packed. This is some of the best cheese I've ever had - and I am a cheese afficionado. The garlic & herb cheese curds are fantastic! They also sell curds pre-battered so all you have to do is take them home and toss them in the deep fryer. Not a large place, but lots of cheese varieties and very friendly, helpful staff. I was born and raised in WI so I sort of feel like this is in my blood. I give Yellowstone cheese the full Five Stars. Easy to get to and very clean. The cheese curds are outstanding! If you are doing the Wisconsin to Minneapolis or visa versa trip this is an easy side stop. I have had the plain curds, dill curds, and the string cheese and they are all top quality. There are only two other places (my opinion) to get curds like this; the farmers market in Madison and the Union Star Cheese places. If you want to know what real cheese curds are supposed to taste. I get the joy (sarcasm) of driving from Mpls to Wausau every couple of weeks but it's a nice time to try some different meat markets, which I love. Nothing was really open this past Sunday during my drive home but I found this gem, which is a little off the path but easy to get to. It's clean, has a very friendly employee and a good variety of meats, cheeses, specialty candies, pickles, candles, jams, honey, etc. I didn't think the (Bob's produce) meat sticks were extraordinaire but I really love the milkhouse (barn dance) creamery candle, strawberry jam and two pepper cheeses I bought. read more
