This is why I keep a cooler in my trunk because the weekend travels can yield good things like the Evanswood village shops which is a road side stop of a hodgepodge foods, antiques etc. I'm always looking for new meat sticks to try and did I find them here. I found a some meats and cheeses in the wine building that has free samples of wine with a sign out front that said venison sausage and not knowing what they had I went in. WRM had a small section of game meat sausages with elk, venison and buffalo in various forms which I grabbed the venison sticks. The venison sticks were very good and reminded me of some that I had a year ago from a local deer processor which I liked but I could not buy because it was shared with me from a deer hunt, you can't buy it in the store. After tasting the first one I was saddened that I only bought one package because I had the last one today and it's all gone. I would definitely try more items from WRM when I come across them again and buy more items to take with me. read more

I was visiting friends in Mauston at Easter for the first time and happened across this great place. I was looking for a place that carried local products to take back some treats and snacks for the road and shelf stable items that would keep on a 16 hr ride and it was like a one stop shop. Not only did they have great in-house items but they had local cheeses, honey and wines from local producers. The Buffalo sticks and summer sausages were my absolute favorite and the bacon was soooo good. I did end up having some items shipped and they arrived in great condition even with temps in the 90s. Next time I visit I'm bringing a cooler because they have a crazy good deal on a family pack with assorted meats that's amazing and pricing you cant beat. I ordered online from this company and I am nothing short of impressed. They shipped my product out a few hours after I placed my order (placed it around 3am). It arrived in like 2 days. The venison summer sausage was great. My family really enjoyed it paired with some smoked gouda cheese we had on hand. Prices were excellent less than $40 for shipping and 3 pounds of the sausage. I like that they included another order form and a brochure about the company with my order. Really pleased and will definitely order from them again. read more

Wis River shipped in a box: NO ICE, NO INSULATED BOX and through USPS. Needless to say, my family rec'd package four full days later..warm slimey bacon, warm ring bologna. This is unacceptable! Nothing on their website indicated it would ship this way! Paid too much money to send it this way. I called WisRiver next business day. All the woman had to say (repeatedly) was this is how they always ship things. She would have owner (?) call me back. I NEVER rec'd any call back!! I understand bacon and bologna are smoked but Would you eat bacon after it's sat on your counter for 4 days??? Terrible Customer Service. Save your money!! read more

My review is based SOLELY on ordering online, and never in person..so I can't say anything about customer service in person! Haha Next to my mom's homemade jerky, the landjager @ Wisconsin River Meats, is my 2nd favorite processed meat product coming out of my home state. My mom's jerky barely edges it out. This is about the 6-7th time I've ordered from them and had delivered to Las Vegas. It always shows up fresh tasting and crazy YUMMY.. Even while being shipped in 115 degree weather! HONESTLY, the only reason I only order the 3lb minimum(cuz like my mom's jerky), I EAT NOTHING ELSE TIL IT'S GONE. NOT EXAGGERATING. When I think I'm about ready to throw up from eating to much, I have another dual stick of sausage. I love this stuff. I've had everything from their jerky to sausage sticks.(see photos). My husband and I have been purchasing from the WI River Meats at their stand at the Warren's Cranberry Festival for years. This was how we were introduced to their products. When we saw an episode featuring their establishment on the Food Network, we have been planning to visit the brick and mortar for a while. We figured that it would be in a small town in the boonies somewhere and boy, were we right. My cell service was limited when we approached closer to the building. At that point, I didn't need my GPS anymore. The building is nothing fancy. Parking is gravel road. Behind it was probably the slaughter house. We were surprised it was opened during the pandemic. As we entered the establishment, no one was manning the service counter. The shop was small. Smaller than we thought it would be from the outside. There was a wall of freezer that contained ground elk, burger patties, pork, buffalo, and other meats. They also sold pickled veggies, cheese, and some Wisconsin souvenirs. Some employees entered from the back and greeted us with a simple "hello." No one offered us a basket or asked we need help. We were the only people there. We felt eyes on us with every move. The cashier kept asking if we were ready to check out. We were indecisive because we were making a Wisconsin goody bag for our visitors from California. Feeling rushed, we paid and left. They don't have prices on most of their products. I asked one of the employees, who was cleaning, and even she was uncertain. Their receipt was of no help either. It doesn't itemize it. So good luck because you can easily go overboard. read more

Was on a trip in the area and we enjoyed fresh cut NY strip steaks from here for an excellent price. Great staff too. Did the steaks over cast iron salted crust on a outdoor fire and they turned out excellent. Highly recommended for your meat needs local or on a trip to the area like us. read more

We were camping in Buckhorn State Park a few weeks ago. After stopping at the grocery store in Mauston, we needed meat. Luckily, we stumbled across Wisconsin River Meats. It's out in the sticks - out on Hwy HH. We stopped in and were greeted by several coolers of frozen meat and sausages. We were told that they would cut us anything fresh from the back - we quickly obliged. After we commented how perfect the ribeyes ($9/lb) looked, they offered us a tour of the facility. It was awesome - turns out they do their own processing, smoking, cutting, aging - everything from cow to finished product. We were really impressed with the pride they had in their work and the meat was very good. They are fairly priced - and have some good deals when buying in bulk. read more

Processing takes a long time....been 4 months here. I get it takes a bit when people drop off to get processed but this is a bit long of a wait....I have used them before and the product is good, but the service of on the phone is very lacking. The lady wouldn't even take an alternate phone number since I disconnected my home number...Nice customer service....Next year will process my own deer and have it done within 2 days. read more

Just walking into this place gives me the meat sweats. Their selection of meat includes beef, chicken, pork, bison, and even elk. We like to buy their freshly ground beef, beef jerky, pork breakfast sausage and the fresh cheddar bratwurst. They will cut steaks to your liking and their prices are very reasonable. I've been taking my deer to be processed here at WI River Meats for over 10 yrs. I have venison made into sticks, summer sausage, jerky and even brats, wieners, etc and I have no complaints at all. Their prices are competitive and the flavor of the finished product is unbeatable. I will continue doing business with them for as long as I'm in WI. I've tried their buffalo and elk and find them great tasting too....along with the beef...of course. We used Wisconsin River Meats to supply the food for our gathering. They had several other events already on the books for that same day so they weren't able to deliver our order but allowed us to pick it up. Most places would have just said they were too busy, but they squeezed us in. The food was outstanding! The staff could not have been more helpful in every way ...answering every single question I had and returned every phone call promptly, no matter how many times I called to ask silly questions. Everyone at the gathering raved about the food, how delicious the meats were, how fresh the bread, fruits and vegetables were, the presentation of the cheese and sausage platter...everything was perfect! Wisconsin River Meats catered our son's wedding this past weekend. We had nothing but great experiences with them! The bride's family did the ordering and planning - so I can only share our great experience with the delivery and service. Right on time - a one man team pulled up in his truck and started his trade. He expertly went about starting up the grill - putting the meat back on to cook, and getting everything else moving. By the time our serving time came - a beautiful buffet was ready for our guests - with a personal welcome and menu at the start of the table. The food was outstanding! Fresh, tasty, hot and cold as it was supposed to be - ALL of out guests offered positive compliments on the luncheon. The server was pleasant, appeared to love his job, and was incredibly responsive as he kept me up to date and filled the buffet before anything went too low as our guests went through. Before we knew it - he had everything cleaned up and the left overs packaged up for us. I highly recommend WRM's as your next catering team. 5 stars plus!!! read more
