This was a bit of a bummer experience. We drove out of our way off the highway to stop by this shop during a cross country road trip. The guy working behind the counter didn't acknowledge us when we entered (we were the first ones in the shop) and kept moving his mask down onto his chin. During our visit, the shop was awkwardly quiet with no music or background noise playing- it might seem like a weird thing to mention but it made the vibe feel off. The shop itself was really cute and had just what we were looking for- cheese snacks, meats, crackers and jam perfect for a road trip. We ended up buying three cheeses and crackers for our journey west. Back home in Indy, we often by Carr Valley grilling cheese (like Halloumi) to go with roasted veggies from our favorite local market. Overall, it was the lack of customer service that made this a disappointing experience. It seems like it could be so much more! read more

Great place to sample and stop for cheese in Wisconsin Dells. Store was empty at 6 PM (except for one couple that grabbed the last two bags of cheese curds). Samples were all in individual cups. Masks required and hand sanitizer at the door. If you want to try something else, ask for a bite. Dixie was so helpful. Loved the Blue Ribbon Black Goat Truffle cheese that we tried on her recommendation. Also bought a native sheep and apple smoked fontina. Check out the overstocked area for some extra discounts. The award winning Blue Ribbon Marisa was 25 % off. They are open until 8 PM whereas other Carr Valley Cheese locations close at 5 or 6 PM. read more

As a cheese eater for decades this place has everything i desire. From curds to stranger goat cheeses. Highly recommend. Shopped the mouse cheese place too, but this place has better prices and offers smaller blocks so that you can have a bigger selection to take home. They have samples out, so you still get to taste something new. read more

Carr Valley Cheese is a great little cheese shop situated right on Broadway selling cheese from Carr Valley Cheese company. Made in Wisconsin (as all the best cheese is), Carr Valley Cheese is legendary (they've been making cheese for over 100 years). They have everything from perfectly squeaky curds to mixed milk cheeses and everything in between (they do cow's milk, goat, and sheep). We came here during a vacation trip to the Dells. We were able to try some cheese as well as purchase a small bit (since we were staying in a hotel). Next time I would definitely make this one of the last stops, so we could get some of their amazing cheese to take home! Get to it!! read more

These people were incredibly helpful! We stopped in real quick on the way to Minneapolis, just to get some quick cheese to bring back to Kansas City later, and this place did not disappoint. A bit of a tourist sink around this area, with places that sell shirts, large silly candy stores, et cetera. But, with samples ample, different variations of cheeses on tap, and the knowledge level befitting a true Wisconsin, this place hit the ticket! It's not that big, and street parking is really the only option that I could tell, but it was worth a stop. Carr Valley is a pretty big producer of Wisconsin cheese, and they had some type of cheese that is eaten when heated - the name escapes me. But they sampled it, then we bought some. Everyone loved the cheese we brought back. A definite stop worth the time. Next time, I'm going to try to get in touch with some actual producer farms; you know, get the cheese straight from the source. But as it stands, this was exactly what we desired in a pinch. They've got some merchandise around the cheese, so bring monies. Thanks, Carr Valley Cheese! Hope to travel up again one day soon. read more

I am not 100% sure how I missed reviewing this place while I was visiting but OMG delicious cheese! We came here after getting off one of the boat tours to grab some cheese well we were in town (is there anything more Wisconsin then cheese tasting?). We tried quite a few including the bread cheese and the goat cheddar which were the most memorable. I still dream of their goat cheddar and will absolutely be ordering some online. Lucky for me, the bread cheese is available in my supermarket back home. So good! read more

I love cheese, so I already knew I would love this place. My husband and I were doing a cross country road trip, and I HAD to stop in Wisconsin for some authentic cheese curds. These were amazing! I don't have that much experience judging curds, but I hear if they "squeak" they are legit. These are really squeaky! They also have a lot of samples out. The Wisconsin Dell i well known as the North American Capital of water slides. The question of course arises, "why would the capital of waterslides be in a place where it's 30 degrees 7 Months of the year?". I'm not quite sure, though a lot of the waterslides are indoor. Regardless, the main drag of the town is a tourist area. The tourist area sort of straddles the line between charming and typical tourist things you mind everywhere (stores with viking/scandinavian styled exteriors etc). Naturally while in Winsconsin, I wanted ... cheese. So, when I spotted this store on the tourist drag, it seemed like a godsend; since i didn't really have time to trek out to a creamery. The store was pretty clean, the stock was well organized, and it was fairly easy to figure out where things are. The service was pretty good, while the lady didn't give huge diatribes about cheese; i wasn't looking for a cheese education either. However, at the same time she did welcome us, and provided a good shopping experience. I bought a decent amount of cheese here, it was delicious. we got smoke cheese strings, cheddar, and one other cheese I think was a creamy cheese. If I had reason to be back in Wisconin Dell, I would shop here again. read more

I have been to them all and every time I go I make sure to purchase a bag of the fresh cheese curds. You know it's fresh and real when the curds squeak when eating them. WOW... I'm from out of town... Rhode Island. We are used to good cheese from Vermont and THIS is good cheese. We got the 10 year aged sharp cheddar. Very good indeed. Of course we had to try a bag of the squeaky cheese curds and they are good too. Kind of like a very mild cheddar. Also tried the fried cheese curds... kinda like mozzarella sticks except cheddar. They were so fresh that they squeaked too... Great service by the owner as well. She really knew her stuff! read more

No kidding, Wisconsin IS the place for cheese!  Carr Valley, awarded #1 in cheeses for years, literally puts California out in terms of having the happiest cows produce the best cheese.  Wisconsin Dell seems like a ghost town in the winter since 90% of the businesses are closed seasonally, except every store on the strip is colorful, well-maintained, and the community is friendly.  Truly friendly.  A little aside: went into a Native American store (that is about to move down to the corner in 2 weeks) and the owner was so nice to have conversation with us.  I was just delighted to hear about Wisconsin being a state where people have each other's backs.  Honestly thought I was going to be culture shocked, but Wisconsin surely welcomes its guests.  They also have really robust beards!  Back to cheese.  They had a variety of cheese flavors (blueberry, cranberry, beer, apple jack, cheddar) and a bunch of cheese spreads (jalapeno and--myfavorite--swiss almond, to name a couple) and a small sampling table set out.  The employee explained to me a bit about the history, awards, processing location, favorites and most popular cheeses, and even about the non-existent expiration dates.  I especially liked that some cheeses were sealed tight for traveling visitors, and the unique ones were sold in small portions.  They really want their customers to like & try their cheese and not have to buy bulk without trying it first.  They also ship within the US, so Carr Valley Wisconsin Cheese can literally be at any occasion you wish it to be! read more
