Then, he broke out the Carolina Reaper jerky, and told me that the guy told him the heat was very muted, because they really wanted to showcase the pepper's flavor, not just the heat. I thought it was odd to use one of the hottest peppers known to man, and then tone down the heat, but my son had clearly paid a lot of attention to the man. So, I ripped off a big piece, and started chewing. At first, it wasn't very hot at all. Then, the heat hit me. My son was able to tell by the look on my face. He started laughing like crazy. Once he finally managed to regain his compusure, he told me with a huge smile that the guy never said the spice was muted. He said it was very hot, but that the heat didn't hit right away. It was a hearty serving of oatmeal and had chia seeds, cinnamon, blueberries, strawberries, and banana on top. All the fruit was fresh, making for a wonderfully delicious breakfast. We had a cooler bag with us, but they sell the disposable ones in store if you need one. It was enough for dinner for 12 adults and a whole litter of kids, with some meat to spare still (though we had done a lot of snacking while the food was cooking). It was the perfect package for our weekend getaway and will hit them up again if we're headed up north.
