I had a very positive experience here. We worked with a sales rep named Chris who was knowledgeable and friendly. I think we ended up paying a couple hundred bucks more than Home Depot or Lowes but it was well worth it for the good experience. We have heard some troubling things about CE's installers (and about contractors that the carpet shops hire in general) so were a little nervous. We also didn't want a team of installers out that we couldn't communicate with due to language barriers...no, we don't care where they come from but we wanted at least one person that was fluent in English so we could communicate. They sent this fantastic installer named Richard who did the job solo-nice since having a team of strangers in our house would only increase the nervousness. We are very happy with the end product. We returned three boxes of unused product and an extra transition piece over two weeks ago and still haven't received our refund. We've stopped in twice and were told each time that the refund is "coming," yet nothing has been processed. We were only given a handwritten receipt for the return and told another department has to process the refund, which seems like a very broken system. On top of that, the salesperson told us we received a contractor discount, which turned out to be untrue. Very frustrating experience and extremely poor follow-through. read more

The general manager (Andrew) and his entire staff deserve a lot of appraising for their excellent customer service. Andrew is very professional and helpful. About 6 years ago, I replaced all the flooring in my home with their awesome Cortex flooring. All of sudden, for some unknown reason there are portions of the floors where the planks are separating and sort-of curling up. Unfortunately, my warranty on the flooring has expired. Andrew still is taking GREAT care of me and replacing my entire flooring (we are talking about 20,000 of flooring). He did the right thing, he sent three different inspectors (including a Cortex flooring expert) to determine what cause of the issue. The results of the inspections were undetermined, so he is having my entire floor throughout the home replaced. He is sending his expert inspector and installer, Jose, to install my new flooring. We bought a house that needed a lot of work. We are new to the area and came across carpet exchange. They seemed helpful and professional. We got all the materials picked out and their in-house installers had the best prices. This is where the good times ended. One after one, the contractors showed up and each time there were several screw ups. The tile job was the worst and the last we will ever see of them. I went to the Carpet Exchange in Thornton, CO to pick up a roll of carpet. While loading the carpet into my van the fork lift driver hit the back door of my van. The driver claimed that he did not do it and the store manager Cleveland pretty much told me that it was my word against theirs. Now I cannot even close or lock the back doors to my van and am stuck with a $750 repair bill. I would not recommend doing business with this company. read more

Last week we crossed one more bridge that we had not encountered in home ownership before-buying new flooring. I can't say it was fun but we are very happy with the end result of our crummy carpet gone and our new floors looking beautiful. We went with Carpet Exchange and while I am satisfied with the end result I can't really gush about the experience. Pros: ~The showroom is large and has a good representation of options. We were overwhelmed at first but narrowed down our choices fairly easily. ~This is one of only a few places that offer the flooring we wanted-Coretec. They have experience with the material while most retailers a) have never heard of it or b) don't carry it or c) offer it but have not sold much. ~The installers were friendly ~They offer financing, which was necessary for us considering the cost of redoing our whole house. ~They price matched with an online retailer for us. This is something others refused to do (same exact product). Cons: ~While shopping and considering options the salespeople throw out numbers like, "$___ per sq foot" and we thought we had a good idea of what we were going to have to spend but by the end, the estimate has MANY other add-ons and costs that were never mentioned. ~For the money we spent (5 figures), we did not feel like the salesperson really pursued the sale. We were the ones calling to follow up on when the tech was coming to measure, when our estimate would be done, confirming pricing and patterns, etc. We expected to be dodging sales calls left and right but the only calls we received were in response to messages we left. Honestly, we would have gone elsewhere but did not feel like starting over. Take our money, please!!!! ~Was the install flawless? No. The caulking around the base boards was pretty sloppy, horrendous stickers were left on the stair caps (I blame the manufacturer for this but it does not make for a great presentation when left on by the installers either). By this point, we were just exhausted with the whole process and not willing to complain. We just wanted it complete and details be damned. Overall, we are happy with our choices and moreover, glad the process it over. Perhaps this is everyone's experience in buying new flooring, no matter where you go? Would we go back to Carpet Exchange? Maybe.... read more

We made a purchase about 2 years ago, and ever since we bought the flooring and they installed it we have had problems with the product installation. In addition to the installation issues there should have been more guidance on the impact of how our product would perform in Colorado given the low humidity. Remember they installed the product not us. Overall the sales experience was pretty lackluster as well, but I won't shame anyone in public. I expect more advice/expertise from the sales staff on their products. I would be happy to share photos with anyone interested, since I don't see how to post them here. I've given up on any support from this company since they don't return calls. I'm having an outside contractor come in and repair what they didn't get right which I'm sure will cost me hundreds of dollars. read more

I have been working with Mary at Carpet Exchange. What can I say...she is fantastic! She has never been pushy with me, listened to what I had to say, and just worked to show me what she had, gave me estimates on the prices...and helped to do do it with the best value possible. I got quotes from Carpet mill, Lowes, HD, and another local company...and by far Mary's prices were better, selection was great...and they could get it installed for a very competative price quicker than any of the competition! Thank you for taking the time to listen and making things right. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I would say that the staff tends to be more hands off when it comes to customer assistance. Initially we ordered tile from the Arvada location. We live three hours away from the nearest carpet exchange. Anyways, we picked our tile up at the warehouse in Thornton. We were told to pull around to the loading dock. No one was outside and the garage was closed. My husband walked into a side door near the garage. An employee just stared at my husband. Not one word. Husband initiated the conversation of needing to pick up order. After everything was loaded, I looked over our receipt and compared it to the tile stock. I was making sure all was there. Good thing! We were missing 12 pieces. The employee offered no suggestions other than "I don't know" when we inquired about the tile. Then he found the box we were missing. The woman at the Arvada location didn't mention to us the tile came by 12X12 instead of 4×12. 4x12 was the sample shown to us. Nothing was written or said the size it came on. We over purchased big time. It's non-returnable btw. Anyways, probably will seek another store. Wasn't impressed. read more

We recently purchased carpet for our living room, dining room and stairs from Carpet Exchange. We measured the rooms and went to the store and initially chose one of the smart strand silk carpets to look at. The sales person gave an estimate of about 3500 for the carpet, install, and the memory foam pad. After reading some bad reviews about the smart strand carpet, we instead chose a nylon carpet that was less expensive. But, after CE measured the rooms they came back with an additional 20 yards of carpet so the carpet actually cost $4,000 instead of the $3500 estimate (and this was with getting a less expensive carpet). The installers did a good job - stretched the carpet, etc. So far we like the carpet. Because since they had overestimated the amount of carpet we would need (there was quite a bit left over) - they also overestimated the amount of the memory foam pad we would need. The installers had an entire roll of this expensive pad in their truck still in the packaging when finished with the job. They said we should call CE to have that refunded. When we did, they said that the installers just carry around all that extra pad (really, always the same pad we got - memory foam) so they would not refund any money. I should have had them leave the roll of pad here. I will not buy at CE again. Costco sells the same carpet and I believe would give a more honest price and service. read more

In up front honesty it has been two years since the install of my Corboo flooring, but today I am reminded of how unhappy I am with purchase and install. It is Christmas day and I am moving furniture around for expected company. However, I can't move my couch away from the wall because it is hiding a very bad installation job from a Carpet Exchange contractor. (reference the pic I posted). I specifically asked the installer to acclimate the wood floor in our house for two weeks per manufacturer recommendations. He only allowed it to acclimate for a few days because that fit into his vacation plans better. Then he left room between the wall and the flooring for expansion. This was to be covered by the baseboards. I had my doubts about expansion in Colorado humidity, but he was the "expert". Over time the floor has contracted so much due to the dry climate, that now the gaps at the wall are so obvious that I have to arrange my furnishings to hide it. We had the manager of Carpet Exchange come to look at it, but he only offered a fix in one area. I will add that we paid $10K for this flooring. I am very happy with the color and variation, but the installer and Carpet Exchange were a regrettable choice. I do not even know how this could be fixed. read more

This is the second time I have used Carpet Exchange for our home. Two years ago I put Core tech flooring on our main floor kitchen and bathroom and we couldn't be happier. The look, feel. And durability with three boys is amazing. We just finished carpeting our entire upstairs and Lea ( hope I spelled her name right) was awesome to work with. I am very particular and she set me up with the best installer. I can't believe we waited this long for carpet to get away from the builder grade stuff that is installed in homes. I was in several times and if Lea was not there I was always greeted by someone smiling and very helpful. Great experience and good prices! read more

Came here looking for wood flooring. Ended up going with lumber liquidators because they had a better selection. If you want carpet, carpet exchange probably has what you need. I read so many horror story reviews about carpet installation. The first place I called that had 5 stars (but just one reviewer) never called me back! Luckily, Carpet Exchange in Westminster put my fears to rest. Ken Plumb came out to my place within 24 hours to give me a quote, accommodated my request for carpet installation, and the job was done within 2 hours! The installers called an hour & a half ahead to give me time to get home, they were courteous, and the carpet looks great. Great job! I'll recommend you to friends and colleagues! read more

Wish I could give less than one star. Let me start by saying I am a general contractor, so I know what I'm talking about. A couple of years ago we had carpet installed in our basement. Long story short, they did a bad job. Carpet had to be installed three times, the last time using totally new materials. Before the last install, they knew we were not happy, and you would think when they installed the last time they would not have taken any shortcuts or otherwise tried to hide errors. After a frozen water pipe and subsequent water damage last month, we had to take up the carpet that was installed by Carpet Exchange 2 years ago, and we were surprised to find numerous issues that were covered up previously. They had originally tried to glue the tack strip, and it had failed almost on day one. They were supposed to go back and install all nailed tack strip. Long story short, they only replaced about 60-70% with nailed. Additionally, they used 100% scrap material in the entire basement. The average tack strip length was 8". You read that right. 1,000 SF (+/-) of carpet and they used 8" scrap tack strips around the entire perimeter (that is where they bothered to replace the glued strip with nailed). They were supposed to fill all control joints, but left one large joint open in the middle of the room. We had requested the best pad available, and told them we didn't care about the cost. After analysis by a reputable firm, we discovered that they had the cost part nailed down, but installed extremely cheap pad -- for a very very high cost. We felt totally screwed by Carpet Exchange, and will never ever step foot in the place again. In my professional opinion as the owner of a commercial construction company, this is NOT a reputable company. Never ever ever again!!! read more

We used the Thornton, CO Carpet Exchange location to purchase carpet for our whole main floor home, July 2019. The sales rep left a lot to be desired: Major lack of knowledge throughout the evaluating and purchase process, and she showed no urgency to return phone calls, etc. We moved forward (our mistake) and purchased the Karastan 'Style Etiquette' carpet....not an inexpensive carpet. The actual installation went fairly well. But within a day we noticed an issue at all areas where the carpet butted up against each of our tile and wood floor edges. Additionally, even now five months later, in many places of each room, we can hear a very 'crunchy' sound when the carpet is walked on....maybe the plastic layer of the carpet padding is causing this disagreeable 'crunchy' sound (we chose a padding which provided 'pet protection'). We believe the sales rep should have most certainly mentioned to us during our padding selection that this sound could/would occur once the carpet was laid. To be fair, Carpet Exchange was very willing to come to our home to do a repair at each of the carpet edges to make the carpet look much better. Our big mistake was not leaving Carpet Exchange when the sales rep showed her lack of experience and interest. read more

There were a number of problems with the installation of my flooring. First, it's only half done, and I don't know when it will be completed. The installation was apparently started before Carpet Exchange had all of the materials they need to finish the installation which begs the question: Why did they start the installation before they knew they could finish it? I would much rather have waited until they had all the necessary materials, but I wasn't given that option. Second, the saleswoman failed to communicate my townhouse unit number to the installation crew, so I spent half a day playing phone tag with the installers. Third, the installers finished the downstairs part of the installation (I'm having new flooring installed on the first floor, the stairs, and the hallway of the second floor) and knew they wouldn't be back until the necessary materials came in, but they failed to put my furniture back properly on the finished floor (my furniture was left in a pile in the middle of the room, and the rug was left in my garage. Replacing the rug and the furniture should be part of any competent installation. Fourth, there's one piece of flooring that was cut improperly, so there's a gap where it doesn't line up with the adjacent tiles. This is completely unacceptable, and it will need to be fixed if/when the installation crew ever returns. I could forgive any one of these issues; I understand that stuff happens. But all of them together constitute a completely unacceptable experience, and I'm terribly unhappy about it. read more

I purchased an area rug while on the hunt for carpet for my home. The rug was beautiful . They had it hanging in the store which made it look a a lot bigger than it was. I was spontaneous when I bought this . I should have payed more attention being this rug was $200. I bought it and didn't bother to open it up for about a week since I had work being done on my home. . Finally I open it... It's to small for my area. Then my $200 wool rug loses a chunk from the end. I call the store so that I can return the defective rug. I was then told by Clevland the manager that the return policy is a 24hour return time. Wth? Then also because the rug had a reduced price , it was all sales final. Ugh! The salesperson failed to tell me any of this. It was in the fine print. Since then I have been back to exchange it since he said he would give me store credit since the rug was defective. I cannot find a rug that I like. Will I found one that I like but I would have to pay an additional $200-250 on top of the $200 I already paid. Not happy and will never go back. read more

Weird experience at this store. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and was helped by a very knowledgeable young woman, Jamie. She was patient and answered all of my questions. She scheduled my floor measure. The measurer came out and measured. He said I would receive a quote within a few days. I didn't receive a quote within a few days. Nor in a few weeks. I was going to Europe - which she did not know - so it took me a few weeks to call back in and ask where my quote was. I was transferred to a manager I left a detailed message and received my emailed quote within a day. I responded with a few color related questions and she promptly responded. She was ordering a sample for me to view. I was 100% ready to proceed once the color issue was resolved. She did not notify me when the sample came in. I emailed and inquired. No response. I called in snd left her a message. No response. It has been 2 months. I do not want to deal with a flake so regrettably I will start from scratch elsewhere. read more

I would NEVER, NEVER, and did I say NEVER, recommend this location or any of the chains to ANYONE. We are remodeling our home, went to Carpet Exchange to get pricing on carpet and hardwood flooring. Very happy with the carpet, that is the only reason I am giving a star rating at all. As for the hardwood floor, not at all. We had 650sq' of hardwood flooring, not a huge sale but still a decent amount. It took over 2 weeks for them to get someone out to do the measuring, then I had to do all the initiation of communication to get the ball rolling. We chose the Rustic Maple because we like the rustic look of the wood. YES we were told that there would be knots, fisher lines and the like and we accepted that. We WERE NOT told that it was "AS IS NO WARRANTY". We were told that we would need to order 15-20% more to compensate for shrinkage and waste, not a problem. When the material was delivered there was only 655sq', not much wiggle room for waste and shrinkage in my book. The day of install, the installers were about a quarter of the way through the dining room and were laying a lot of the wood off to the side and had already used approximately a quarter of the wood. They asked me where the rest of the boxes were stored???? There were no more boxes, They then called their boss to discuss the amount of bad pieces of wood and that they did not think there would be enough material. He showed up shortly after their conversation, looked around and the 3 of them went out side to discuss the situation. They were told to use what they were setting aside as "BAD PIECES", that is what the wood is supposed to look like. This should have been our first clue that there was a problem. The 3 day install only took 2, nice for us. When they completed the installation there were 3 sticks of flooring left that possibly measured 10' in length, this should have been our 2nd clue there was an issue. Upon inspecting the floor and letting the AWHH of the new floor ware off of us, we found SOOOO many bad pieces in the flooring. When I say bad I am talking splintering wood, so bad that I will not let my grandchildren play or walk bare foot in certain areas fearing they will get LARGE splinters in their feet. I am talking splinters the length of the board. I called and requested that these pieces be replaced. They were not receptive to that idea and it took many calls and on online complete to get this accomplished. 3 weeks later they sent the same install crew out with 3 boxes of wood. They came in and inspected all the areas that we had taped as needing to be replaced and proceeded to agree that they needed to be replace and actually found more. We, the installer and I, went to his truck to inspect the wood he had brought and found that it was worse then what was already on the floor. SOOOO at that point he suggested that they use a wood filler and seal the splintering areas down and fill in the bib gouges and cracks in the wood. SO, I agreed, BAD,BAD,BAD decision on my part. Well after they left and the wood filler dried I now have all these dull smudges ALL OVER my house where they used the filler. So I called again and was told that a manager would call me back and would discuss the situation, please note that I have sent up to 60 pictures to my salesman at this point. WELL I never received a call from any one. So I sent a message via their website. I did then receive a call from the manager of the store. He was a very rude person, spoke to me like I was a child, and informed that, in his words, you signed the contract and that contract states that you are purchasing product "AS IS-NO WARRANTY" and then pretty much told me to go pound sand. DO NOT BUY HARDWOOD FLOORING FROM THIS COMPANY. I am in the process of filing a complaint with BBB to see if I can get some kind of resolution to this. read more
