Inedible food. I hate people who yelp negative reviews but I feel like it's my civic duty to let people know that this place should not be allowed to serve food. It was repulsive. We didn't eat any of it and they charged us for everything. We went to the the carnival and got hot dogs afterwards. Please get a new chef! Staff was very friendly but clueless.

Tender.

My absolute favorite restaurant in Hanover area. Lots of choices on the menu. I feel it is the best bar, drinks are very well made.

Michael's On The Hill - open lobster ravioli--Michael crams a whole lobster into this dish!

A palette-pleasing panoply of plated perfection, Michael's On The Hill puts "epic" in epicurean…read more The Farm to Table restaurant offers fresh local delights, served with carefully concocted condiments that complement--but never overwhelm--the thoughtfully selected appetizers and entrees. The delectable dishes more than make up for the limited number of offerings; there's something for everyone at Michael's On The HIll. My partner and I visited Michael's On The Hill on a Saturday evening in mid-March; we reserved a table for two after we finished skiing at nearby Stowe. If you want a table during the high season, reserve it early--space is limited. Andrew greeted us at the door and after escorting us to our table, handed us off to Heather, our server. Heather is a Professional Server and it shows: Throughout our two+ hour meal, she was available but never intrusive and conversational but never too familiar: She's worked at Michael's for more than two decades and knows the menu perhaps better than the Chef--her recommendations were excellent: Rather than pushing the highest-price menu items, she suggested dishes based on her knowledge, experience, and guest preferences. We started with the local Artisinal cheese plate--three generous cheese selections accompanied by apricot chutney, sweet red grapes, pickled vegetables, candied walnuts, and toast points. The balance of sweet and sour was superlative; the appetizer presented tastefully on a cured wood bark platter--two or three people can pick their favorites and mix and match flavors. The tasteful teaser was a trailer for the main attraction. For entrees, I had the Maple Glazed Duck Breast with Cider Duck Glace accompanied by sweet potato hash, Orange and Arugula salad, and roasted baby carrots; my partner had the special: Beef Bourguignon on top of a cheese polenta with sauteed spinach and a delightful Mirepoix ("meer-PWAH"). Beef Bourguignon is a classic French stew of tender beef braised in red wine--hearty, flavorful, and filling, this French dish is perfect after a long day of skiing. Executive Chef Hess' flourishes transformed the traditional dish into a magically delicious medley of complementary flavors. The duck was cooked to perfection: Soft, warm, and tender on the inside with a hint of smokiness--balanced nicely by the maple glaze and the cider glace. The sweet potato hash was actually small, sweet potato "cubes" mostly hidden below the citrusy salad. When I finally forked the sweet potato cubes, they'd soaked up the cider duck glace, detonating a cluster bomb of flavors in my mouth. We paired the smokey duck and stewy Beef with a succulent bottle of Andrew Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, whose rich cherry-cassis notes and silky tannins enhanced the sauces and spices of our entrees. Micheal's wine list reads like a Great Novel--long, engaging, occasionally intimidating. Here's where Heather re-enters our Micheal's meal story: In addition to letting us taste an alternative or two from already-open bottles, her familiarity with the menu made our decision much easier. Finally, because I just can't say no to Tiramisu, we were presented with a generous slice of sponge cake soaked in espresso (beans cured down the street), layered with whipped Moscarpone cheese, topped with cocoa powder. We cherished a couple bites and asked to take the remainder home (by the way, Tiramisu is part of a healthy breakfast). Yes, Michael's On The Hill is pricey--with a 23% percent tip, our meal was about $275--but every bite was worth it. Find out for yourself.

The restaurant is in a farmhouse and it feels like it, the interior is so warm and inviting with beautiful views of the Green Mountains. Everything is farm to table and seasonal, and you can tell each dish is made with real care. I do wish they had more vegetarian options, but it feels good supporting such a wholesome local business. If you're heading to Stowe or Waterbury this is right in between and a must stop. Easy parking and great service!

I was lured here because someone said it was better than Bistro de Margo; it was not. Service was good from the server and poor from the bus boys and kitchen. The kitchen failed in many ways. Could I give it fractional scorse it would be 2.6. The server was good and had a phenomenal memory to take all our orders with no notes. Wow! The three appetizers were delivered out of order. One came. Fast forward 20 minutes; the remaining two came out. The appetizer dishes were never cleared. They hung around until we decided not to have desert! The appetizers were underwhelming; how can you screw up a Caesar salad? The main courses disappointed in many ways. The dishes were serverd luke warm. Mussels were dehydrated on top of the heap and obvioulsy sat under a heat map. The steaks were cooked well but accompaniments were cold, cool, or barely warm; take your pick none were appetizing. The plates were stone cold which didn't help. Finally after dinner was served and eaten and plates cleared for deserts we did not order the remaining plates and debis were cleared from the table. Not good. Not professional. Not worth the money. The wines were good. The beer was good. Dinner came to $275 plus another $60 tip. It wasn't worth it. There is clealry issues in the kitchen and staff. They were simply not into it. I would not come back. If you want a French dinner look elsewhere or just don't try that in Burlington.

Our server, Gibelle, was professional, welcoming, and provided us (along with her team) a smooth dining experience from start to finish. She also made sure that there was excellent timing on service throughout the meal. The food was outstanding. My husband ordered Steak Frites. I had the Tartelette de Champignons. Both dishes were delicious (I got to share a bite of the Stake Frites) The Tartelette was rich with the medley of mushrooms, beautiful pastry crust, and a rich blend of of eggs and cream to hold it all together. For dessert we shared Mousse au Chocolate and Taste au Citrion en Verrin. The only downside was we were so full, we could not finish them, The space is open and light with tables spaced out and benches around the outside. The whole space was clean, modern and airy. And only received our "pre appetizer". Please don't waste your time, especially if you are hungry. The bar was open till 10, and I should have read the signs then. The bartender refilled a ladies espresso martini drink with another shaker filled of espresso martini in the same glass. Hate that. Then refilled a whiskey on the rocks using the man's same glass that had melted down ice in it, added more ice, and then poured the whiskey, and the pour was way off! The bartender looks up and says you know what you want? No hello, no basic, how can I help you? My husband says, hello, yes we wanted to order something to eat. She very curtly says kitchens closed and walks away. OK then. Without many options in the area, we came next day for an early dinner. This time on time! The kitchen was open! My son got the kids pepperoni pizza. It was soaked in oil. Not edible. I ordered the clam chowder. It was more like salt in a bowl. Horrendous. I could not take more than one bite. My daughter ordered a burger medium with cheddar and fries. The burger was burnt, bun was stale and fries tasted old, like they had been sitting under a heat lamp. My husband got the salmon served over polenta. Bold choice! He was served salmon over potatoes. Salmon was under cooked and flavorless. Food was super slow to come out, two other tables that got there well after us were served before us. The bartender was the server for the restaurant, same women from the previous evening, and seemed completely overwhelmed and inexperienced to be running the bar. She did her best to be attentive, but just couldn't manage by herself. There was a sign in the window about looking for servers, so clear they were understaffed. We left nearly all our food on the table, sadly, made no complaint, paid our check and left. Won't be back but wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Needs much improvement! Board games in the space were well maintained. My son enjoyed those.
