Complimentary cheeses, veggies, and olives

I love Mediterranean food and this place was recommended by our friends. Food: 5/5 The quality of food here is amazing. We ordered two of the carousel plates with four different meats: beef, veal, filet, and chicken. The beef and chicken kebabs were super flavorful. It paired deliciously with their rice, roasted veggies, and cabbage salad. I also love their crispy thin pita chips. I was not a fan of the veal liver as it was too gamey for me. Overall the food was really good and the portion sizes were great. Drinks: 3/5 The drinks here were not that good. They were a dollar or two higher than your regular bar. However, the taste was mediocre. Their hibiscus Paloma was very bland and a little watered down. Service: 5/5 We came here on a Friday night at 7pm, we had a reservation and got seated pretty quickly despite it being quite busy. Our server checked up on our table often and our food came out pretty fast. They also gave out some bread, cheese, veggies, and olives while we waited for our food. Ambiance: 5/5 This place is lively and feels a little upscale. They have an outdoor seating area as well. Overall, I would come back here for the food, but maybe not the drinks.

My group and I ordered the family style meal for $40 per person (tip and tax about $50 per person). This was an amazing decision because we got to try a bit of everything and there was so much food, we couldn't finish it all. Very delicious and worth the price! The restaurant was spacious, clean, and luxurious.

Carousel is always a great idea! I've been eating here since I was a little girl with my family. Now as an adult, I now enjoy lunches and dinners with my husband. The food is always consistent and the staff is always energetic and kind. I hope to pass this tradition to the next generation. It's the closest place to have Lebanese Armenian cuisine that reminds me of Lebanon. If you've never been, yalla! Go and enjoy the Hafleh Beiruti and the ashta desserts!!

The take out order was missing a main item. When we called to complain, they left us hanging on the phone for a long time. The food was average, the shawarma was overly spiced and the cheese rolls very heavy. We paid about $150 for the take out and did not have a good experience.

Veggie Sampler for Two $15

Hard to find parking. There was metered parking in the front. Came on a weekend afternoon. Made reservations, but according to the host, the reservation cancels after 15 minutes of not showing. Place was not full at all. Got the Veggie Sampler for Two for $15, Carousel Combo for $25, and Sarma for $10. For the Carousel Combo we got the Lula or ground beef Kebab and Lamb Shish Kebab for $4 more and substituted the cabbage salad to Lentil Soup for $2. We also got the bulgur instead of rice, fried, or fire roasted vegetables. The food was all amazing. The Sarma was on the sour side, but good. Would come back.

We consistently order catering at Carousel Restaurant as our go to place when we have friends and family over but we decided to go to a dinner date last night and were truly blown away. Our waiter, Amen was fabulous. We wanted to try new appetizers, entrees and drinks so his suggestions were wonderful. The service he provided was perfect and we'll definitely be back to see him soon. The combo kabob platter with an upgrade of the filet was absolutely delicious. It's the next night that I'm writing this review but I'm still thinking of the tender meat and when I can go back to have it again. I always highly recommend their bulgur pilaf they do it so well. We also had the chicken shawarma platter. Each of these comes with a choice of a salad or hummus so we'll both got their fattoush salad because it's impeccable. And also ordered their jalapeño salad (it may be off of the menu but they still have it available) as well as their cheese borags. The pomegranate margarita was also amazing. Before I end my review I'd like to mention the beautiful renovation that has taken place since I've last been there. Not only have they spent a lot of money but the design was superb. It's super classy and it fit our date night perfectly. Thank you for having consistency and great quality food. See you soon!

Carousel is a solid spot with really flavorful food and a lively atmosphere. I ended up going during the prix fixe menu, which I did not realize ahead of time, and it made the experience feel more expensive than I would have liked. That being said, the quality of the meat definitely stood out. Everything was well seasoned and cooked nicely, but the filet was the highlight for me. Super tender, juicy, and easily the best part of the meal. The portions were generous and the variety you get with the set menu is nice if you are coming hungry or with a group, but I think I would have enjoyed it more ordering à la carte and choosing exactly what I wanted. Overall really good food and worth trying, I would just time it differently next time to get the best value.

Had lunch at Carousel and was transported back to the old country. The atmosphere is traditional and old school, but refined and pleasant. There is both inside and outside seating, but I preferred inside as the tables outside are on a busy street. The service was very good, with frequent check ins to make sure we were good with our food and drinks. We shared the baba ganoush, vegetarian grape leaves, and the chicken breast kebab. Everything was outstanding with the exception of the grape leaves which were too lemony for my taste. The chicken breast was tender and well marinaded, and came with grilled veggies and tomatoes. The baba ganoush was creamy and smokey just as it should be and was topped with pomegranate seeds. Overall it was a good experience which I will repeat when in the area.

Wow, Had to review... were more than half way thru lent... coworker got the amazing lentil soup.. Carousel Restaurant down the block.. the lentil soup has been a house specialty since 1984 and one taste tells you why. Served hot, deeply flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, it's the kind of dish that feels timeless. Simple, comforting, and done just right... the sort of classic that never goes out of style. We will get again...

Carousel Restaurant in Glendale is a Lebanese-Armenian institution that delivers exactly what you want: a loud, bustling room, white tablecloths, and a table absolutely loaded with food. The place feels nice, laid back, and classic -- not trendy, just comfortable and old-school in the best way. Service was good, fast and attentive without hovering, and they kept the pita basket full without asking. We ordered family-style and the spread was ridiculous in the best way -- the flaming makanek sausage came out sizzling and was gone in seconds, the cold mezze like hummus, tabbouleh, and kibbeh nayeh were all bright and fresh, and the hot mezze including kibbeh balls and cheese rolls were perfectly golden and crisp. The mixed grill platter with lamb chops, kafta, and chicken tawook had real char from the grill, and the whole fried fish was a showstopper with flaky meat, crispy skin, and a side of tahini sauce. Their garlic sauce is non-negotiable. It gets packed on weekends so expect a wait and just valet on Brand Blvd, but the portions are huge and prices are fair for how much food you get. This isn't diet food -- it's rich, garlicky, celebratory, and tastes like it's been made the same way for 30+ years. Come with a group, come hungry, and don't skip the leftovers.

Liver sauté
Liz B.

I was craving some authentic Lebanese food and came back to this spot in Little Armenia. It was just as good as I remember, and I discovered new favorites as well! I loved the liver sauté last time and had to get it again, and it didn't disappoint. While the gamey taste is definitely still there, it is perfectly seasoned and comes with sautéed and raw onions that cut the liver flavor. My favorite appetizer was definitely the baba gannuj, a roasted eggplant dish that went well with the bread. I especially liked that it was topped with pomegranate seeds, which gave it a nice texture. I also tried the frri, which was a roasted quail dish that was seasoned very well, but a bit small. I would also recommend getting the mint tea, since they use fresh mint and it is very soothing. Our server was very accommodating and gave us a table, even though they recommend to have a reservation on weekends. The interior is very warmly lit and intimate, great for a special occasion or family gathering.

Kebbah Nayyeh (Chi-kofa)

Very busy night we went there. Food was delicious but somewhat inconsistent. My mom's kebab skewer was full mine seemed to be half a skewer. In general everything was amazing. Appetizers were to die for, and the meals were good too. After the appetizers we waited a long time for the meals to come and when they did it was not HOTc it was a bit cold, but still edible. With that said and since we waited long I didn't want to send it back and have another delayed meal.

Came on a weekday. Metered parking in the back. Restaurant has been updated, ascetically beautiful. Service was awesome! I have to come back i wanted lamb chops and my husband ordered kabobs instead. Love the cabbage salad and veggie plate. Beware of the hot coffee .. it kept me up. Baklava was delicious. I'll be surely coming back to order my Lamb chops!

Ask the Community - Carousel Restaurant

Do they have private rooms?

With proper reservation in advance depends on what day it is. I'm assuming they will provide a private room, but I'm not the owner. I'm just a customer like you. You need to contact them directly to get all the proper answers.

Do they serve lunch on the weekends and what hours would that be?

Yes they do serve lunch

I would like to book a birthday dinner but also want to see the belly dancers. When is the best time to go?

No idea, probably an evening booking call restaurant to be sure.

Is there a parking?

Yes, there is a parking lot behind the restaurant that is reasonably priced. If you want, you can park on the street as well (meter parking I believe).

Do they still offer zeresh polow ( the rice made with barberries)? If not on the menu will they still make it if specially requested?

Not anymore

Hi there. Has anyone been back on a Friday night, are the shows back? Thanks!

Nope

I see 3 different cork fees... what is the current corkage fee?

Are the shows back?

Not anymore

How to dress?

Business Casual, cocktail party attire.

Are kids allowed?

I would think so. The restaurant doesnt have any elements or vibe that kids wouldnt be allowed at all.

Has anyone been to the restaurant lately on a Saturday night? Is there still a show? Is the dining outside? In front or back of restaurant. Did you feel safe from Covid while dining?

Yes we were just there this weekend. They set up tables towards Brand and have heaters and umbrellas. It worked fine. We celebrated our tradition of my dads birthday! Call to check the wait time or go between lunch and dinner so it's not too bad.

Is the lentil soup vegan?

Lab

Which location has better food, Glendale or East Hollywood?

How much is entertainment night on Saturdays?

No more entertainment

Do you have corkage fee for hard liquor?

Yes

Does anyone know if they have a crocking fee if you bring your own bottle of wine? If so how much?

30$

What nights do they usually have good shows?

I also think Friday and Saturday. Call to check.

Where's the best place to park?

There is ample metered parking behind the restaurant and the time can be extended via text message.

Does anyone know if a corkage fee?

$25 a bottle

Do you have to PAY for the belly dancing show? Or does that happen on Friday and Saturday nights regardless?

You have to pay for the shows, the payment includes food.

I'll probably try out somewhere different next time before heading to dinner. They have outdoor and indoor seating, and the over ambiance is fine. Not too loud and not too quiet. So, $27 for an entree of Pasta seemed a bit overpriced expensive given the portions that could have been amplified at nearly minimal cost to the restaurant. I get it 'tho, rent is high and also strategically if you have small entrees then appetizers and other items would be purchased to get the average order size and revenue up as a smart business strategy. So the only comment I have is about the constructive criticism of the portions to the price. As it stands, it feels like what they served was about a $12-15 plate at most in "comps" value to what you might see at peer competitors, 'tho this is gourmet quality. If they doubled the portions served for $27, I wager they're profit margins won't get hurt on the cost of goods (food and portions) but I'm betting the customer care and satisfaction scores will bring back loyal customers with frequency. The service was friendly and atmosphere was nice with the outdoor seating. There's a sister restaurant, across the way with indoor dining.
