My friend orders from this restaurant all the time and kept recommending the koobideh--which I love--so I finally had to try it for myself. The service was warm, kind, and attentive. We were seated right away and ordered the chicken kabob, beef koobideh, and ghormeh sabzi. The beef koobideh ended up being my favorite, although the chicken kabob was just as delicious. And the bread... wow. Honestly some of the tastiest bread I've ever had from any kabob spot. We took some leftovers to go, and the smell of that bread lingering in my car was absolutely delightful. My Persian friend told me about this restaurant and couldn't stop raving about it. I finally tried it, and he was right! This restaurant serves some delicious and amazing food! For appetizers we had the yogurt and cucumber dip and the eggplant dip. $9 each and it was served with bread, butter, raw onions, and basil. Delightful! My table mate and I wanted the lamb chops, boneless chicken, and luleh kabob (ground beef). The waiter created a dish with these three offerings. All three meats were absolutely delicious! My toes curled it was so good! I orders the yogurt drink with gas. Refreshing. Meats were tender and flavorful. Rice was awesome. The fresh bread was warm, and great. Service was good. The restaurant is in a 3 store corner mall, so the parking is really tight (lot is shared by a liquor store, a pizza place, a bar, and the restaurant). Hubby picked this place on our way to LA. It's a very small establishment in a very small corner "mall". Luckily, we got the last parking spot on the lot. There was only one table occupied when we walked in around 7pm on a Wednesday. Waiter is friendly and gives us a run down on all the kabobs. Hubby ordered the soup (Dizi) and three kabobs entrees for the 4 of us. They put the kabobs in the middle on a pizza stand. Then, they brought three plates of basmati rice. We then realized they put all three entrees onto one plate. It's shocking to see how small is the serving size of all three combined entrees. For a mom and pop shop setting, they are charging the nice restaurant pricing. Aside from the serving size and pricing, I would say the food does taste pretty good. It's similar to Shalizaar in Belmont, CA that is close to our home. I could only give it three stars as the food, serving size, and ambience do not equate to its high price. There were very peculiar things that happened, ordering was very suggestive, three of the items we wanted, we were told not to order! Can't figure that one out, while other tables were ordering the same things! The appetizer required their freshly made bread, but none was brought, only after we asked multiple times. Then they only brought one for a table of four! Other tables were being served baskets full of bread. Long story short, this place is not the real surprise we expected, but rather a place to avoid! We used to be regulars here, but after several dreadful experiences, we've had enough. Our most recent takeout order was an absolute disaster. The wings were burnt beyond recognition, and when we called to address the issue, the staff responded with blatant rudeness, showing no concern for their mistake. Our dine-in experiences have been equally abysmal. On one occasion, we waited over an hour just to place our order, and when the food finally arrived, it was cold and unappetizing. The server seemed indifferent to our complaints, making us feel like we were an inconvenience. Another time, we decided to give them another chance, hoping it was just a one-off bad night. Unfortunately, it was the same story. We had to flag down the server multiple times just to get a glass of water, and our meals took so long to arrive that we were on the verge of walking out. The worst part is that each time we tried to address these issues with the staff, we were met with indifference and even attitude, as if they couldn't care less about their customers. After consistently bad service, long waits, and poor treatment, we won't be returning. With Raffi's Place being that big the servers are attentive. read more
