Carol was recommended by BHLDN, and she did a great job. The alterations were pricey, but luckily I didn't need to get a lot changed - the dress was already a close fit, so I just got it hemmed, got the bodice taken in, and got cups inserted. Carol has a great eye - the dress, to my eye, already fit as well as it could. However, she observed that, after wearing the dress for 10 minutes, the fabric settled and wasn't as well fitted as it could be. She did go in and fix it - making it very tight to get into, which it should be, because then once I'm in the dress it looks great and my waist is tinier that I could have hoped for! And it is still comfortable and easy to move and breathe in. The subtle changes she made were spot-on, and I'm excited to wear such a perfectly fitted dress for my wedding day! read more

Carol did a fantastic job on my BHLDN wedding dress! As Mary T. mentioned, there was an entire wall of BHLDN dresses in her office every time I went in, so I knew she'd know exactly what to do with my dress. It fit almost perfectly (I thought), was just too long, so she hemmed it, but also put in a second zipper in the inside of the back to make the buttons lay more flat. When I said I was unsure about needing that because the price was getting kind of high for me for the hemming alone (to be fair, my dress had 4 or 5 layers to hem), she said she was going to do it anyway because she wanted it to look perfect. Carol really cares about you & her work looking great on your special day. She also changed the way some of the fabric laid on the bodice to make it more contoured to my personal shape & made the dress even more beautiful than it was when I picked it up at the store. A friend of mine made the veil, & she even gave styling & construction tips to her on that. Carol is a complete package of talented seamstress & eye for style & design. PS. I didn't know there would be an additional cost to steam & press the dress until my second appointment, but that is likely my own ignorance. I was incredibly pleased with the alterations (work and price) that she did on my BHLDN wedding dress. Because of a dress size ordering error (and two weeks of my putting it off after picking up the dress), I did not have my consultation appointment until four weeks prior to my wedding. Carolina was upfront about the rush fee she'd have to charge me because of the short timeline at the beginning of our appointment. While I was a little nervous about having my dress altered by a one-woman seamstress operation, when I walked into her home and saw all of the BHLDN bags I knew that she understood the construction of the dress, had seen and worked my dress style before (Lively Chevrons), and would be able to efficiently make any alterations needed. While I agree with another reviewer that Carolina did not estimate an alteration quote until the dress was fully pinned, to be fair it would be hard for her to do so until she saw it on me. Alterations are custom for each person and their dress (and simple dresses easier to alter than beaded/complicated dresses), so a quote over the phone would be challenging for her to do. Maybe a compromise would be for her to see the gown on, and prior to pinning give a ballpark estimate (that may change up or down after pinning) for work done. I found that my dress needed minimal alterations because I made sure to buy a BHLDN dress as close to my normal size as possible. As a result, it only had to be taken in a little bit at the waist at the seams and bust cups added. In total, I paid less than $200, which I found to be very fair. The dress was ready at the date and time I was promised and the dress was nicely pressed (i.e. no wrinkles) as well. Carolina topped it off with a big hug for me when I picked it up. I would recommend Carolina for BHLDN alternations for sure, but also for non-BHLDN dress alterations as well. She did great work for me. read more

Be very careful with this one! I went to her because BHLDN recommended her. Since it was a nicer bridesmaids dress I didn't want to risk taking it just anywhere. When I initially contacted her I asked her to quote me on letting the dress out in the bust a little bit. She advised that in order to give me any sort of pricing that I would need to come in for a consultation. Understandable I suppose but I just wanted a general range. I went in for my consultation and put my dress on and stood on the platform. She looked over the dress and gave me her suggestions on what needed to be done. The dress needed to be hemmed by 1" and the bust needed to be let out 1/2". That's it. She asked me if I thought that the dress needed to be hemmed and I agreed. Then she started cutting the tulle. This was fine but I was still never quoted any sort of price. For being a 'consultation', I feel like I should have been given a price before she started working on the dress. She pinned me up appropriately, I changed and she wrote up my bill. I nearly had a heart attack! She was going to charge me $230 to have those two things done! My dress costs $260 full price to begin with and now she basically wanted to charge me almost that much to hem it and let out the bust? When I told her this was too high and I would like to bring the dress somewhere else, she told me that I would have to pay her for the consultation and the work she had done so far (cutting the tulle by 1") and that would be a $100 charge! I was absolutely beside myself. This was supposed to be a consultation and I felt that she completely took advantage of me. Was she nice? Yes. Does she do good work? Yes, but not $230 good. Would I recommend her? Absolutely not! You can get the same work done by other seamstresses for much much less. My friend got the exact same alterations done on the same dress by a different seamstress for $70 and the gal even steamed her dress for free and it looked beautiful. Be very very careful with Carol. I worked with Carol over last summer on my BHLDN wedding gown. We showed up for the pickup 3 days before the wedding (note: this was not a rush order) and not all the trim was on the dress AND lipstick was on some of the fabric, which Carol proceeded to try to blame on me (although I had made it a point NOT to wear makeup to my fittings). She was able to get the stain out and put all the trim on, but there was no apology or refund. In the end, yes, the dress looked beautiful and fit well. But I would not return. read more

Carol was recommended to me by BHLDN - even though I did not end up buying my dress from them - and I am so glad I went with her! It is very stressful to find the right tailor as you spend so much time and money buying the right dress, you want to leave it in good hands...and Carol has great hands! My dress was two dresses in one - a satin slip with a totally seperate lace overlay. Carol had to hem 2 dresses and did a WONDERFUL job with the lace, as it was very delicate and a lot of work. She also re-constructed the top of the dress as we decided there was too much fabric on the top. This was also a lot of work for a very reasonable price. Lastly, I had my wedding in Texas and the reception in Chicago - so I wore the lace for the ceremony and only the satin slip at the party. This meant that Carol did very quick alterations between the two events and only had a week to add straps, do some minor alterations and a spot-clean / steam. (Which is expensive at a dry cleaner, but Carol did it for a very low price!) I can't say enough good things about Carol. She is lovely to work with and really knows what she's doing. I called Carol to make a consultation appointment and asked her what I needed to bring. She told me to bring my wedding dress, my shoes, any undergarments, and my checkbook. She did not state the price over the phone (granted I didn't ask, I assumed we would discuss it at the consultation, I've never had a dress altered professionally before). I got there, and she had me put on my undergarments, my dress, and my shoes and stand on a platform in front of the mirror. She proceeded to pin up my dress and after 30 minutes, another customer came in for her final fitting, tried on her already altered dress and then left. Yes, she took another customer in the middle of my "consultation". She finished pinning up the dress (BHLDN taffeta ball gown) and told me that for hemming at the bottom, taking in the straps at the top, putting a zipper in the back and bust cups in the front, it was going to cost me $650.00. This was AFTER she had already done the work to pin up the dress. This was my "consultation". I then told her I could not afford to have her do the alterations, so she charged me $50 to pin up the dress and then blamed me for not asking the price before she started pinning. I feel she took advantage of how naive I was (which, to be fair, I was being naive) but she is very unprofessional for being the alterations woman that BHLDN recommends. read more

My wedding gown was being transported from Cleveland to Chicago for my February Chicago wedding, and I needed to find a place to steam/press the layers and layers of my organza (with horse hair ends) BHLDN wedding gown. BHLDN recommended Carol specifically. She was able to press/steam my dress within 24 hours. She did a beautiful job. She also suggested adding a layer of horsehair underneath the lace overlay on the top, scalloped edges of my bustier. This ended up being a PERECT solution to the scallops flipping down all night (although it was a little itchy!). Her pricing felt a little high for what it was, and she ended up charging us $25 extra dollars for a larger wedding garment bag - although it was worth it for a more seamless transport. All in all, she did a great job and trustworthy with a wedding gown. It also helped that she was VERY familiar with the dress itself and the materials that BHLDN typically uses. read more
