    Quesacoas

All I have to say is OMG. I have been searching high and low for good flautas since my last trip to Mexico and I finally found them. Absolutely the best, most authentic Mexican food in van buren/Kalamazoo counties. The quesacoas were also incredible. Rice & beans are perfection. This is well worth the drive from wherever you are coming from. It was so good I forgot to get a picture of the flautas before I ate them!

Steak burrito, tamales, barbacoa and carnitas tacos

Had a solid meal here. The steak burrito was tasty, if not the most substantial I've encountered. The carnitas and barbacoa tacos were plump and flavorful. I preferred the beef, my partner, the pork. The tamales, pork, red and green, were just okay, a bit dry, a bit underwhelming. The service was friendly and quick. I would stop in again.

They usually run out of stuff by the end of the day so get there early. Carne asada tacos are the best in town, hands down.

This spot is so quickly becoming an absolute favorite of ours!!…read more We are from the east side of Kalamazoo so this little spot is a bit of a drive for us but we will continue to make the trip over because it's THAT good!! :) Frida's is a super cute little spot, a little unassuming if you are just zooming by on your way to or from South Haven but let me assure you, you should stop and give this place a shot! It rivals any meal I've had over in South Haven! Actually, I would say it beats most meals I've had in SOHA! We came out for our third visit on a recent Thursday evening and were pleasantly surprised to find some delicious sounding "Thursday specials"!! Tostadas for $4 each, House margs for $5, $1 off all drafts! The meat choices for the tostada (or any entree you order!) are numerous and so much better than the typical ground beef or shredded chicken options that are often the only choices without an uncharge - not here! There were 11 different choices! Some very unique! I'll attach my picture with the list! :) AND you can choose multiple meats for meals with multiple items in the meal - LOVE this!! I always prefer variety to this is a huge plus for me! We experienced one of the best tasting meats we have ever tasted at any restaurant! Cochinita Pibil! WHOA!! I personally do not like pork a lot of the time, it's just not my favorite. This meat is INSANELY delicious, even for someone who doesn't normally choose pork! I got it on a tostada as a part of that evening's specials, I had a few bites of just the meat and was just so shocked at just how delicious it is!! DEEP, full flavors! It's a must for us now! The house margaritas were so good and the perfect compliment to the chips and salsa that comes to begin the meal time! The draft beers we tried also hit the spot! They taste even better on special! ;) Frida's has an outside patio area that is so cozy and fun when the weather is showing off during a Michigan summer! You'll want to check it out if it's nice out! :) The menu has so much to offer, so many of the classic Mexican dishes you'd expect, but they also offer smoked meat entrees and pizzas! I was so intrigued by the pizza list but I chose to save that for another time! The waitress did mention they offer personal size pizzas though, if you want to try one as an appetizer!! :) They have an amazing sounding Mexican pizza with a refried bean "sauce" that seems like it could honestly make the best appetizer!! I was very tempted! The service we received was excellent! Our waitress Maria deserves a mention!! She was kind, attentive, and super helpful! We really enjoyed our conversation with her over the course of our meal! Already looking forward to the next time we get over to Frida's Cantina!! 10/10!!

Most of the food was terribly bland. :( The carne Asada had no flavor at all. Very disappointing…read more Our queso had a very odd texture. Same with the kids Mac n cheese the cheese had an odd texture.. not creamy at all. Drinks were good. Food quality and flavor could use improvement. Out of a party of 7 only two enjoyed their food.

The restaurant was very busy when we arrived, but they were still able to seat us on the back patio, we actually grabbed the last outdoor table. The patio was a great place to sit and had nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was where things started to fall apart. After we were seated, we didn't see our server for quite a while. We completely understand that restaurants get busy, but if the staff is already overwhelmed, it might be better to slow seating rather than have guests waiting so long. When our server did make it over, he apologized for the delay. We ordered margaritas for the adults, drinks for the kids, and started with the small guacamole and queso. Oddly, our appetizers arrived before any of our drinks. After another wait, our server finally brought the beverages and apologized again. The margaritas were all very good, we tried the Golden, Regular, and Chambord, with the Golden being our favorite. The guacamole and queso were both delicious, although we wished they offered a trio with salsa instead of having to order everything separately. The queso was a big hit with the kids. For dinner, our table ordered the shrimp tacos, Enchiladas de Mole Poblano, the Avocado Burrito, and the Su Casa Quesadilla with steak. My son ordered the mozzarella sticks from the kids' menu. Overall, the food was really good. The only thing we weren't crazy about was the house-made tomato sauce on top of the Avocado Burrito, but the burrito itself was good. Once our meals arrived, our server disappeared again. We wanted extra chips to finish the guacamole and queso, a side of salsa for the tacos and quesadilla, and more napkins since each place setting only came with one paper napkin. After waiting without seeing our server, we finally went inside to ask for everything ourselves. The restaurant has a great vibe with fun décor and patio, good food, and margaritas. Unfortunately, the service really overshadowed what could have been a great meal. We're hoping there was something unusual going on that night because we'd be willing to give Su Casa another chance. Not everyone in our group felt the same, several said they wouldn't return after this experience.
