stopped in on Saturday afternoon to celebrate two birthdays! we are quickly greeted and sat by a booth near the entrance. our waiter came over and offered us beverages to start and brought us some waters. We started with a round of peach and strawberry margaritas with the chips and salsa. Two of us ordered the Carne Asada Asada tacos, Mexican style. They were super good and huge portions. The meat was a little dry, and there were an exceptional amount of onions and cilantro. They also came with a plate of pico, Mexican rice and beans. The idea of paying nearly $20 for a burger, which is what the rest of the places on this road are charging, has been a struggle for me. I knew the local Mexican place was going to be a lot better bang for for my buck, and probably less expensive two. Boy was I right! I have been eating the same fajita fundito for my last three meals. This is a small mountain of steak and chicken, covered in melted cheese, with peppers and onions. Comes with rice, beans, guac, crema, tortillas, the works for $16. Got two beers for $5 to wash it down. Definitely a better deal than anything down the road. The service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant is fun, brightly painted and generally festive. Their menu has the staples that you'd expect but it has things you don't find at other Mexican restaurants like the braised pork and Tomatillo green sauce or the barbacoa tacos. I got the fajitas with steak, chicken and shrimp this time and one of the other people with me went for the carne asada tacos with onions and cilantro. Don't hesitate to try anything but let me recommend the burrito Monterey. That is a beast. You won't finish it and if you do, you won't ask what's for desert. Staff is always right there and constantly walk by making sure everything is ok and tastes good. My husband and I split the single order fajitas and there was more than enough food! The shrimp was really good which sometimes is hard at a restaurant to not be too chewy. The corn tortillas came out nice and hot wrapped in foil. The veggies on the fajita platter were cooked to a nice tenderness but still had a slight crisp. My kids were happy they had cheeseburger and free chips fries for them, and the combo of a taco with fries was just what they needed. Best part is happy hour is all day everyday! $3.99 margaritas!! We went last night to celebrate my husband's birthday. My husband and I ordered the fajitas, one chicken and one steak. It is always incredible and so delicious. Plus enough to bring home for at least one meal a piece. My son and daughter liked their meals as well. Unfortunately our service was terrible. Our server was not interested in us and slow. He forgot my son's side dish twice. Finally my son asked him to charge his tacos as Al a carte. He said he would but forgot and then did take off our drinks. He also brought our meals out at different times. My husband and I have eaten at Casa Real several times and have always had excellent service. We will be back but I don't think my son and his girlfriend will. read more

If you're looking for flavorful authentic Mexican food, you won't find it here. Everything tastes like it has been premade and delivered my Gordon's Foods or Sysco. Everything I've tried is lacking in flavor. The food is almost always just warm when it's served and not hot. The service is super quick! With such quick service that tells me that the food is either staying warm most of the day in warming trays or is being microwaved. The chicken often has that funky microwave flavor to it. The few times I have been here, I will order the chicken fajita quesadilla. It is not like a typical quesadilla, I should mention that. It's a flour tortilla, filled with chicken, fajita peppers, onions and a cheese sauce then folded in half and not cut. It is served with a side salad (lettuce, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, beans and rice). Most times there are enough ingredients you can't taste that the chicken tastes reheated. I do not have any complaints about the chips and salsa that they serve. They're both actually quite good. Maybe go have chips, salsa and beer and you shouldn't be disappointed. We ordered food for a retirement party at work and needed to serve fajitas for 40 people. We specifically asked for large pans of chicken fajita, steak fajitas, salad, rice and beans. Our manager made it clear in 2 phone calls that we wanted everything served in large pans, separately buffet style. Instead they served us and charged us for 40 chicken and steak fajitas. Each meal was individually wrapped per person. Not only did this take up the entire back of a Buick Enclave but it was extremely wasteful! Each guest had 2 foil pans with plastic lids. When they first opened I loved their food and service the last several times my husband and I went the service by our waitress was horrible she sat at a table on her phone the last time while we waited 20 minutes for a box or bill which never came so we finally got up and went and asked for our bill and box. One of the best authentic Mexican restaurants! I base this discernment on several visits. Their chips and salsa are homemade, bountiful, and second to none! Eat the chips and salsa with a Dos Equis Amber on draught and you're this side of heaven! We order the fajitas and absolutely love them! it's one of the few places that we actually get more than a half teaspoon of sour cream and guac. Slightly short"ish" reviews of Casa Real made us almost pass by, but I always want to give a business a chance before writing them off...and we are so glad that we stopped on Saturday for a late lunch. Entering the place is a bit odd because there was nobody nearby top greet us and we weren't really sure how this would work. About 30 seconds later though, the host, a very eager young man, greeted us and took us to a table, where a fresh and warm basket of chips arrived with some nice tangy salsa to get us started. The menu is expansive and filled with combinations that I haven't seen before, which was awesome. They also had a nice margarita on the rocks or blended for $3.99 (see pic). It was a great way to start off and although I didn't get one, my wife did, and she really enjoyed it. The combination platters (3 enchiladas, rice and beans and a burrito, enchilada and pablano) were delivered on scorching hot plates by our server, who was friendly and eager to please her guests. We indulged in a second basket of chips and salsa (no charge) and had to request a to go box, which provided enough for lunch the following day for one of us. I would hit Otsego if you really want to experience a little different Mex flavor and be treated like you mean something to the staff. read more

There was a group of 5 of us and we felt a bit fish out of water. The host sat us right away but then no one came to even give us water for quite some time. You get free chips and salsa which is super great, especially when you are hungry and practically eat the whole basket yourself. (Note: that there is a charge for more chips though, at least that is what it says on the menu). I ordered the taquitos and they were great. I really liked how the meat was seasoned. The guacamole was pretty great too. More like smashed avocado than guacamole, but I enjoyed it. The service was friendly, but not very helpful due to a language barrier. Ordered from here last week for takeout during this crazy COVID time. We heard from some friends that the fajitas are where it's at, so we ordered a Fajitas Jalisco and Piña Tropical. Both have steak, chicken, shrimp, and veggies. The piña one has a pineapple salsa (hence the name, as piña is Spanish for pineapple) and it comes in a half of grilled pineapple. Such a pretty presentation and huge portion sizes. Flavors for both are bold but not spicy, and served with fresh tortillas. It also came with rice and beans, lettuce tomato and sour cream. The rice and beans are pretty standard, but if you get through your fajita and still hungry make a good nibble. The house salsa is AMAZING. It isn't chunky at all, and with enough spice to give a good kick but not too much. I will definitely order from them again. read more

We were hungry, hungry after some vigorous indoor shooting. (Southwicks in Plainwell) Both husband and daughter wanted Mexican food and Casa Real fit the bill. They were extremely busy, but they were able to seat us and get our orders in no problemo. Husband ordered their chili verde (wasn't what he thought it would be but the green sauce was good), daughter ordered carne asada burritos Mexican style, and I ordered their enchilada/taco combo with rice and beans. Everything we had was very good! Their rice and beans were delicious (that is how I classify Mexican restaurants: good beans and rice=attention to detail) Their chips were homemade as was their salsa...very yum. All the servers were very nice and prompt at seeing to our every need. It was A LOT of food, which I ate all of mine, the other wimps with me had to take theirs home in to-go containers. Food was delivered within the time bracket. We sorted our food, which had no indication on the packages of what was what. Opened mine, looked and smelled so good. Started eating. It had onions and tomatoes which I personally would have held if they had been in the description of what I had ordered. No one's fault there. Not a good place to come eat! Got my order wrong, rude staff, and they tore down a historic mid-century church!

This place is good for Tex Mex food and a little subpar for actual Mexican food. Service is a mixed bag- last time I was there, I'd guess that they were understaffed because even though my server appeared perpetually busy, he dropped the ball on keeping our water filled and completely forgot to bring me the cilantro that was supposed to be on my tacos (that I should not have had to request in the first place). I think he brought me the cheaper chicken tacos instead of the grilled (planchado) ones I ordered, but I double-checked the bill and I was charged for planchado. No, I didn't argue over it- I was with my in-laws and the staff was obviously slammed. I also didn't see any vegan options for tacos, like a black bean option, which is odd because frijoles of all kinds (not just the refritos) are integral to Mexican cuisine. In general, the menu carried a lot of heavy, Americanized dishes very smothered in meat and dairy. Perhaps there is a spicier salsa that just didn't show up at our table, but I didn't get a chance to ask because our server was so busy. I had hoped for something that wasn't entirely bland to add flavor to the aforementioned tacos since the cilantro and onions that the menu described with them were missing. We also got the sopapillas because my in-laws had never tried them. They were good but really needed a bit more cinnamon. I will probably end up coming back in the future for the simple reason that there's not a particularly better option until Fennville, and my in-laws live near Allegan. read more
