This is the Mexican food by which all others should be judged. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Malia's. The staff is phenomenal, the food and service are both top notch, prices are good. If I had anything even remotely bad to say about Malia's is that they've ruined me for almost all other Mexican food. Nothing I've had since discovering this place measures up to them. When my husband suggested going out to Gobles for a new Mexican restaurant, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was very happy to find a warm and friendly, clean atmosphere surrounded by attentive wait staff and great food. I ordered the molé, while my husband couldn't resist their special of the evening, $9 chicken fajitas. Brought to the table prior to the meal was a piping hot basket of home made tortilla chips and yummy salsa. On a side note, the bathroom was not only clean, but adorable. The detail the owners have put into making their restaurant special have not gone unnoticed by this particular food-lover. read more

Best authentic Mexican Restaurant in Gobles, MI! The Good: 1. Wear your stretchy pants or ask for a to-go-box because the portions are huge. 2. Prices are reasonable and easy on the wallet. 3. Staff is super patient and very knowledgeable with all our questions. 4. Free chips and salsa are served as an appetizer. 5. Conveniently located in between Gobles and Allegan! 6. Plenty of parking available. 7. The Chimichanga meal was truly an enjoyable experience and the best I have had in the area. The Needs Improvement: 1. No FREE refills on chips and salsa. Always on the lookout for a new Mexican restaurant in the area, we went to Malia's. It was moderately busy but tables were available. The restaurant was adorned with the usual Tex Mex regalia. There were two TVs up high in the corners, but the sound was muted. My girl, who still remembers fondly the chicken flautas that the "now long gone and just a memory" Mi Ranchito in Oshtemo used to offer, has since discovered by going to other Mexican restaurants that what was described in the Mi Ranchito menu as a flauta was not a flauta. What she fell in love with was a chicken burrito (flour tortilla) covered in a white cheese sauce. Nowhere else had she found this item. But at Malia's this dish is called a "Burrito Americano," so she chose that for dinner. I ordered the Mole Plate, half a plate of shredded chicken in a mole sauce and a half plate of rice. First the positives: The server was very nice. The food that was served was quite hot. And I liked my mole. But everything else was bland. My girl was wholly disappointed in the "Burrito Americano," as well as in the complimentary chips and salsa. Observing that the chips were probably homemade, she thought they tasted flat and were not seasoned at all. She thought the salsa had a canned tomato taste. I concurred with her observations. Tasting her burrito, I thought it also odd that the strips of green pepper in her burrito were crunchy raw. But I liked the side of Pico de Gallo. Generally, I have low expectations for sides of rice. When present, it serves as tasteless filler. The rice on the plate met these expectations. Adding the entirety of the Pico de Gallo from my girl's plate - she doesn't like jalapeno peppers - made the rice more palatable. So, overall, Malia's was unimpressive. The service was fine, the restaurant seemed clean, the food was delivered hot, and my diet cola was as refreshing as carbonated water and cola syrup can be. But the food, save my mole and the Pico de Gallo, was forgettable. But, I expect Malia's to do well in Gobles because there is really no other competition. It's not like the town has a lot of options. I think it will continue to be a hit with the locals. But it is not a destination I would drive to from Kalamazoo. read more

I really like this restaurant. The portions are large, the service is quick, and the food is always good. For a small town Mexican restaurant it is solid. I have eaten here multiple times and the food is always consistent. The only real downside is no beer. read more

Hands down the best Mexican place I've been to and Mexican is one of our family favorites next to pizza... so we've tried MANY different restaurants. The restaurant is really clean and we really enjoyed the decor. The food was amazing... I had the chicken fajitas and my boyfriend had the fajita quesadilla. Both were 10 out of 10 Amazing! Huge servings, great food all for a really affordable price! And the chips and salsa are the best I've have on top of it! Gobles is a really small town in the middle of nowhere, but make the trip, it's worth it! Our server was great as well.. and they also do to go orders which while we were there we saw several people picking up orders so that's also a good sign! read more

I moved from a state that had SO MUCH authentic Mexican food and I have been hoping to find a good taco place here. I am very happy to say that I found it and it's not far away from me! I got pastor and asada tacos (with cilantro and onions.... Like it should be) and quesadilla deluxe with steak and everything was soooo good. The green sauce was perfect and tasted just as good if not better then others I use to have. Asada was cooked perfectly, it wasn't overdone or dry at all. WORST. MEXICAN. FOOD. EVER! Meat so tough you can't cut it. So much grease you can lubricate your car with it. Almost totally unedible. Service was good but the food was a disaster. Everyone got sick who tried eating it. Will NEVER go back. Maybe the locals are used to eating this stuff, but it makes McDonald's seem like fine gourmet dining at 1/10th the cost. STAY HEALTHY. This was some of the best Mexican food I have had -- ever! The portions were huge. Flavors and ingredients were busting out of our burritos and enchiladas (in a good way). Service was great. Just ask for extra napkins as soon as you get your food. read more

First time here and it's fairly new. A friend had tried it & told us about it. I had shrimp fajitas & hubby had steak & chicken fajitas. Small servings and was not the greatest Both our veggies were way overcooked & somewhat burned. I only put three shrimp per fajita & didn't have enough for a third had I wanted one plus shrimp we're small. Friends had the beef enchiladas and said they were dry. They charge for more than one serving of chips and we had a not full basket for two couples. If we'd sat at separate tables we'd have gotten one for each couple & that's the way it should have been even though we sat together. All in all very disappointing and we had high hopes. Los Amigos (Stadium - Kalamazoo) still has our vote for serving sizes, price and the most importantly taste. Will not be a return trip. So sorry no pics I forgot. read more

I was pretty impressed by this little Mexican place just north of Gobles. We wandered in expecting not too much of a crowd but were surprised to see the place about 3/4 full and the aroma of authentic food in the air. Looking around to other tables, we saw many plates that looked appetizing. Studying the menu for a few minutes, we found several things to try, but settled on an enchilada and taco plate and an order of chicken nachos. The plates arrived steaming hot and the portions were plentiful. The ground beef and chicken were both flavorful. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and the chips crispy. The waitress was really the only downside, as she either new and overwhelmed or had someplace else to be. She did serve up our food with a smile, but there was no enthusiasm or extra small talk that would make the experience superb. YUM!! I just ordered the chicken fajitas for carryout (curbside). My husband got a burrito and we ordered tacos and nachos for the kids. Everything is wonderful. Fresh and packed with flavor and good sized portions. Seriously I've been saying "MMMM!!!" for the last 15 minutes while enjoying lunch. Great! We drove to Gobles on a sunny weeknight just to try this place. Not overly busy, but quite a few people seemed to be leaving happy as we watched from the front patio while munching on homemade chips and fairly mild, but tasty, salsa. Between us we tried two fajita plates. One combo with strips of steak and chicken, the other was a t-bone covered in shrimp and cheese. We wisely chose warm corn tortillas as the vessels of deliciousness. The flavors were bold and tasty. The food was served sizzling and by adding some salsa to the rice and beans, we kicked them up a notch. Great value as well. Tony was fantastic.
