I was looking to get an on-site appraisal at CarMax at this location. Met a salesperson who took down my info and I waited for the result. It came in lower than Carvana by over $2000. I told this to the salesperson and he said then go there and sell it giving me the evil eye and walked away. I worked at CarMax after I retired for a few months. They have a good business model but they use young people who have no customer service experience. From some of the other reviews many of these salespeople need an attitude readjustment. There are lots of problems with their cars that I saw when I worked. The biggest problem we're dead batteries. I lost a few sales because of that. read more

Extremely disappointed! We have purchased cars through Carmax for the past 10 years as it is always the most simple way to purchase a vehicle. Our salesman told us they had the vehicle I wanted but it hadn't hit the inventory yet as there was a problem with the LED screen. We told him we definitely wanted it and to NOT sell it to anyone else. Said we should come back in the morning and it would be ready for us. He then calls us a few hours later saying they no longer had the car as it was sold to someone else. I might add that when he showed us the vehicle he mentioned in a surprised voice, that the mats were never even taken out of the wrapper. I totally believe that someone there decided to buy this vehicle as it was a great buy. REALLY, REALLY, disappointed. Will shop at another Carmax, but never this one. read more

We showed up to take a look at our vehicle and couldn't have been more disappointed! The car was FILTHY! Marks on seats, shoe tread marks on doors, exterior was not washed and waxed as one would expect a "new" car to be. They talk about their 125 Point Quality Inspection. This is a joke. There were multiple areas that were visably unattended to. The A/C went out as we were going on our test drive and we were so frustrated we just turned around and went back. The manager at the time didn't even take the time to address the customer. He figured he'd just hang at the check in desk instead of attending to unhappy customers. The only bright spot was the friendly people in the cashier department that gave us our "shipping" money back. The customer service is non existent and a true disappointment. If you have options of other places to buy....I recommend you use them! read more

Attention: Your Personal Information might be at Risk!!! I was in contact with a sales agent trying to arrange a date to see a particular car and test drive it. Right away, the agent asked me to provide my Address and Date of Birth via email. It is extremely inappropriate and against rules and laws to request for confidential personal data/information via email just to schedule a date for test drive. I left a VM to one of the sales managers who apparently did not seem to care about the issue as I never heard back from him. Not to mention that his sales agent was rude and unprofessional. I wonder what the agent would have done with my sensitive and personal information in her e-mailbox! I asked why she wanted this information and stopped receiving a response! It felt fishy! I bought a Pt Cruiser with 55000 miles from them 3 years ago. Was told how great the Maxcare warranty was. I paid $2900 for the warranty. My motor went out. Nobody told me at the time that you have to put in a new timing belt at 100000 miles. I did not get a Manual for my PT Cruiser either to read up on it. So I called them and told them what had happened. They asked for my service records. They could not find any thing wrong with the service. Besides that the timing belt was not changed at 100000. So they would not pay for the motor. So, got it all fixed. Paid it all on my own. Called Carmax and told them everything. They wanted me to bring my car there so there mechanic can look at it and maybe get me into another car. CAN YOU BELIVE THAT! So, a week goes buy and my catalytic converter goes bad. The mechanic calls them. They say that they do not pay for that either. So, I paid them pretty much for nothing on a $2900 warranty. I want my money refunded to me for a worthless warranty. I am filing with the BBB and writing the Attorney General a letter. This a total rip off. DO NOT TAKE MAXCARE WARRANTY. read more

Now I am facing a bill for brakes and struts that have failed. It would have been a much better decision to purchase new or from another dealer. Never again. I can honestly say that this was the easiest car buying experience we've ever had...initially. I was in the market for a 5 or 6 year old car and wanted to get something in the near future before used car prices skyrocketed more than they already had. I found a car online that was the model and trim level I wanted and there were extra options listed that were nice. We visisted the lot, test drove the car and decided to go with it. Down payment, finance, and out the door in a few hours. Over the next few days I realized that 2 of the options that were listed on the car were absent. One of them was a better sound system which I didn't really care about but the other was blind spot monitoring which could have been a major issue if I had just assumed it was there like it was listed. Also the odometer reading that they used for all of the registration documents was off by about 3k miles. I called the salesperson I dealt with (She was awesome through the process so my complaints are defintiely not with her) and told her the issues. She discussed the issues with her business manager and we scheduled a follow up appointment. We arrived and the buyer looked at the car and the missing options were indeed not there. I was told that those options didn't add value to the car so there would be no price adjustment. I accepted this as I wasn't really expecting them to make an adjustment. We had to do a return and repurchase of the car where we had to do all of the paperwork over again to correct the odometer reading. We were there about an hour and half redoing things for mistakes on their end. We were offered nothing in terms of having to do this. Between this and the options that were listed incorrectly I would have expected something to help with customer retention. I'm not talking about big things either. Even something as small as a free oil change or two would have been a good faith gesture for errors on their side that took more of our time. They topped off the gas(about 1/3 of a tank) so I will give them that but still would have expected more from a customer service perspective. Would I buy from this CarMax again? I honestly don't know. If I did I would put more scrutiny into the listed features as well as the odometer. read more

Needed to replace my aging Infinity and wanted to go green with a Hybrid. Researched the area and found Carmax had a couple of cars meeting my criteria. Zach was informative and helpful, patient as well. He helped us get into our 2016 Ford Fusion Energi with minimal stress. The accounting team was great and later, when unfortunately an engine light came on, Tom in Service stepped Up to provide a loaner car while the factory replaced a warranty item. The purchase price of my new car was a bit higher than blue book and they gave me a few thousand less for my trade in that I should have not accepted, but that was my fault for proceeding with the sale. Besides that, my car sales man was professional, knowledgeable, and personable. Had a few hiccups when I tired to get service on my vehicle that were noted during the 30 days (the system was not showing the notes of my issues) but I spoke to the service manager, John, and he proceeded to make it right. He and Mike in service took my situation and came to a resolution that was satisfying. Though I feel I didn't get a good "deal" with the purchase, overall I was satisfied with the great service the team provided especially Mike and his service team. read more

People told me Carmax would low ball me, this is what I found out. 2004 Volvo 90K miles with some things wrong with it. Bad interior, blown front struts, Check engine light on, broken window motor on driver side. I estimated about 1000-1500 bucks in repairs to get this car to perfect shape. And that is not replacing the completely shot interior. My Craigslist estimate on selling on there. (at the time of writing this I have not listed the car on craigslist) 1000-1500... The Check Engine light really holds me back. Blue book and Edmund estimated private party sell of 3000 dollars in the condition my car was in... Took it to carmax, the kid was really nice.. I sat around and bullshited with him for 45 mins while they test drove and everything else to get me a quote... Drank a cup of coffee. Well the quote came back.. *******Drumroll******* 750 dollars.. Yep that is it... Good thing is the quote is good for a week so I can list it on Craigslist to see if I can get more.. Overall taking your car to Carmax.. hahahahahaha Don't expect miracles. but if you want to dump a car for a quick Lowball.. Go ahead. It is really painless. read more

Carmax = BEST. CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE. EVER!! Previously I tried to buy a car at Showcase Honda and gave the car back out of disgust and frustration. When at Showcase Honda, I advised that I expected to leave with a full tank of gas. I was told they do not put a full tanks of gas in used cars. Carmax had me double check my car before leaving to make sure there was a full tank of gas. Showcase Honda did not wash my car before I left. Carmax washed the carS BEFORE I TEST DROVE THEM. And then again before I took the car home. Showcase Honda took 10 days to tell me that they had a different deal than originally discussed after I took the car home. And after that they changed the deal two more times before I finally gave the car back out of anger. Carmax took 10 MINUTES to run my credit, then let me review each offer that came in and let ME pick which offer I went with. Yes, I got to pick my own terms and finance company. And then the deal was done. Finalized. Showcase Honda proudly displays that the average time to sign paperwork is THREE HOURS. It took just over two hours to complete. Carmax took 15 minutes for me to complete all the paperwork Showcase Honda wanted 1 month of paystubs, a phone bill, bank statement and 10 references. Carmax wanted 1 paystub and proof of insurance. That's it! Some of you may have seen two other reviews I wrote about Milano Motors in LA and Showcase Honda in Phoenix (both reviews are in my list titled Never Going Back) and know I have a knack for picking shady dealerships to buy cars from. Carmax is NOT one of those shady dealerships. Carmax boasts the tagline "The way car buying should be". It is absolutely, positively true! I worked with Gavin B. first, found a car I liked, was qualified in mere minutes. So easy! Though the car I was trading in was paid off, the title still showed a lien on it so I had to get a lien release before I could take the new car home. When I came back, I worked with Rob. I wound up finding an even better car that I LOVED, and was slightly more expensive, and got re-qualified for the more expensive car in a matter of minutes. Signing the paperwork took 15 minutes. The car was washed and filled. The person I signed the paperwork was very thorough and kind. I am so happy with my experience. I have no reason to ever shop elsewhere for a car. Amazing experience! I was looking to sell my 2007 Mazda6 before I moved to Chicago and drove two hours from Sedona down to this store in hopes they would give me a great price. Jason greeted me at the door, set my car up for their estimators, then sat with me for about 45 minutes explaining the process and the options while they estimated the value of my car. Soon, the offer popped up on his computer screen and it was beyond what Ihad hoped and higher than Kelly Blue Book value. Jason was very excited for me and told me how to complete the process of selling my car to them within the next 7 days if I was interested. I showed up 6 days later, and within 20 minutes I had a check in my hand for the difference between what I owed on the car and the great price CarMax was paying! Within a week I received a payoff confirmation from my bank and a check for a refund of some interest on my car loan. Super easy and efficient! Jason and all the employees I encountered at CarMax made it so easy to do this, and they followed through on every promise they made along the way. Went there for an oil change today. I bought a car at a Carmax in California and for ease of warranty-maintenance have always had oil changes, etc. done at a Carmax. The oil change took an hour and 45 minutes because they didn't have a part or tool that they needed. Carmax lets you know up front an hour wait's normal. This is no Jiffy Lube. However, an hour and 45 minutes is a bit long and would merit a mere two stars. The third star is for the car wash that was a benny with the oil change. Maybe other places give car washes too. The California Carmaxs sometimes give car washes, sometimes not. So I don't know the reasoning behind the washes. But it made me feel better because the car had really needed it and I'd been debating whether I wanted to do it myself or take it somewhere to get it done. The plus side of an oil change at Carmax - they're trustworthy. Staff seems to really care about the Carmax reputation. I've had some good experiences at Jiffy Lubes and some not so good experiences. The downside of an oil change at Carmax will definitely be the wait. Even if they have all the parts/tools they need, an hour's a long time. And they're really too far from anything for you to walk in the heat to one of the Tolleson shops/mall areas. Carmax has vending machines, coffee, water, and a TV the staff said is auto-programed to one station and cannot be changed. Fortunately, Ellen was on and I had a book to read. If you decide trustworthiness outweighs speediness, give them a chance and bring a book. read more

I've been looking for a used compact pickup for about 6 months off and on. I jumped on the CarMax website, and after about a week of searching, up popped this 2007 Ranger with only 13,000 miles and just about everything I wanted in it (it's used, so of course it's not going to be perfect). Score! Ran a Carfax and it came back clean. Great job putting pictures of your cars on the website. Every vehicle they have usually has about 35 pictures. It's no substitute for seeing the car in person, but it was a big help. Look through the features of the cars, too. I found one 2010 F150 that looked like a steal, then realized there was no air conditioning on it. So make sure it has all the basic stuff on it, and if you're not sure, call up the dealer and ask. All of my previous cars have been Saturns, so I'm no stranger to the "no pressure" approach. I can say that the car buying experience was slightly better that a Saturn dealer. If you come in looking for a Corolla they're going to show you compact cars, not steer you to the Escalade aisle. Your primary salesperson goes through everything with you, except actually signing the paperwork. They look at financing, warranties, service plans, etc. And I really got the sense that he was laying out what they had to offer and letting me decide, instead of trying to force the most expensive package on me. They do take you into a "back room" to sign paperwork (it's really just part of the service department). No tricks were hidden in the contract, either. The price of the truck was fair, actually lower than what I expected when looking at Ford dealer websites, cars.com, etc. If you're looking for a used car, this should be your starting point. If they have the car you're looking for, you can't go wrong here. read more

My first journey of finding a car was here. My husband and I planned on being there for awhile. Originally I went because my husband bought his car here. I understand they don't hassle you, but when I and My husband walked in we couldn't even get help so we both walked outside to look. The selection wasn't a lot to choose from but I ended up finding a Kia. Still couldn't get help and was very disappointed in the service. I ended up calling after leaving and waiting a hour and not getting help while the staff were just sitting around. My husband encouraged me to go back which we planned to after we both got off work. My husband went in his uniform and right away we received help we couldn't even get into the door. I ended up getting a brand new Kia. I had the car for 3 months and the radiator busted. I had the car towed to carmax they ended up sending it to Kia. They completed a buy back. They ended up letting me choose another car but before that they rented me a older Kia so I could get around (which was like a slap in my face). I ended up getting a Dodge Dart with extended services, my car started to act a little funny so I decided to take it in as far as my moon roof glitching and the steering wheel locked up when I was driving. It took several months for me to get a hold to anyone in maintenance I was pretty much in tears because I didn't want to drive my car because I didn't want it to lock up while I was driving it. When I finally got a hold of someone name William he set up an appointment but didn't even apologize for how long I had waited or the fact that I had been on hold for 37minutes. I brought the car in and he took the car and drove into the service area and wiggled the steering wheel and clicked the sunroof off and on and them came in and told me there would me a diagnosis charge. (Wtf) really you didn't even look at it. So I called my husband and we took it to Larry H. Miller dodge and they wouldn't even let me leave with the car until it was fixed due to it being a liability. Thank God for Larry H. Miller for catching the issue. read more

I didn't realize it was going to be such an ordeal. They told me it was going to be a 20 minute wait (which is kind of odd as I saw employees just sitting around) so I walked right out. The salesman did not go over how to use all the many variations of the info system which are very complicated when he was delivering the car. I had to return to the service center twice for help. I would have rated them a negative 5000 but we all know that is not possible. To begin, they sell LEMONS!!!!! (we know from experience, twice now) Service department sucks. They never fix the issue. Day one check engine light came one, They reset the codes. Never fixed or dug into the issue. The timing chain has been rattling since day one. They stated we don't know what we are talking about. (We have taken to other mechanics and they state the timing chain is bad) Service advisors are RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. Throwing pens at my wife, verbally abusing her and the list goes on and on and on Recommended to NOT BUY HERE. If you do, we feel sorry for you. Trust us when we say go elsewhere. I was shopping for a car & decided based on the advertisement & the brand that I'd go with Carmax. So far, I feel like I've made a pretty good choice. I had a sales rep of Ted Tulle. I found the car I wanted (05 Altima) he held the car for me until I could come in the following week. Literally, Saturday morning, I came in, he gave me a test drive, then I was brought to the back area to sign off on paperwork. Seriously, I think the whole process took 90 minutes to 2 hours...way shorter time than it takes in a car dealership where they gotta talk to the guy in the back. The dissatisfaction took place once I drove OFF the lot. There was an issue with the car a few days after I bought it, causing it not to accelerate. We thought possibly trans, it was sent to a shop nothing was duplicated, I had to take car back. It immediately started doing it again. This time it was sent to Nissan. Nissan determined bad alternator charge. Fixed & resolved. Now I'm happy. They had my car more than I did first 3 weeks after buying, which was disappointing, however they had a loaner available at no cost which was a convenient accommodation. read more

Not as many cars to choose from as virginia location. Staff was attentive and friendly and knowledgeable. I did not realize that you can't just drive thru the parking lot and it was raining. You have to walk thru the lot....maybe because of liability issues? Anyhow I did not stay long. The weather was way too nasty. I have bought and sold cars from Carmax in CA and VA. I'm really glad I took the drive down to CarMax. It was a simple, no hassle, way to see what my car was worth. I looked at KBB and had an idea what a dealer would offer based on past experiences, but why not have an actual offer in writing? The process couldn't be any easier. I made an appointment (which did not appear to be necessary). I met with Frank who looked at my car and left the keys with an appraiser. He showed me the inventory of cars they had available while my car was inspected (never pressing me to take a look at anything). When my car was finished, it popped up on his screen, and he showed me how much they would pay for it. It was more than I thought and the offer is good for 7 days. While I didn't end up buying or selling my car with CarMax, it was nice to have a backup plan and not be hassled in the process. read more

Chad a sales employee discriminated me based on my age and ethnicity because I was "too young" to purchase a vehicle that was approved by my local bank ! I had simply asked for a test drive and chad was very discriminating towards me! When I made the call to speak with a manager, Monica very rudely disregarded my complaint about her employee and didn't really care about what I had to say! It's very upsetting to walk into this kind of environment.
