Writing this review solely for the care, kindness, and above and beyond customer service I received from David. The moment I walked in to the Roswell location, David greeted me, took the time to start conversation, asked if he could be of any assistance while I looked at vehicles, and ultimately helping me in finalizing my vehicle purchase. I test drove two cars that day, David printed out and pulled up all the specs. As a young woman, he did not pressure me, but let me ask questions and take my time test driving and looking at the vehicles. I fell in love with one of the cars, but it was not four-wheel-drive and needed that. So back to the drawing board! Over the course of the following 2 1/2 weeks, David stayed in contact and helped me look for the specific vehicle in four-wheel-drive at Carmax locations across the country. I ended up finding a completely different vehicle at the Lithia Springs location and David helped me with the transfer of getting that vehicle and another that I was tentatively looking at moved over to the Roswell location so I could come in for a test drive and view the cars in person. His promptness and help was above and beyond! There was no feeling of pressuring me to just to get a car because I like it, but talking over logistics and particular needs made this an educational experience for me in a great way! I went in that day with my current vehicle, cleaned out ready to drop off to them to sell, and test drove both of these newly delivered cars. I fell in love with one that had everything I was looking for, and walked away less than two hours later with my old car being traded in and that money used as my down payment and my new vehicle being looked over and ready to hit the road! David made sure to follow up with me over the following weeks to see how I was liking the car, and if I had any questions or concerns. To whom it may concern, I recently purchased a vehicle from CarMax and shortly afterward began experiencing issues, including a noticeable shaking in the steering wheel, vibration at highway speeds (over 70 mph), and a strong grabbing sensation when braking from higher speeds. Concerned about these symptoms, I had my local mechanic inspect the vehicle. He diagnosed the issue as worn rotors on all four wheels. Since the vehicle was still under CarMax's 4,000-mile/90-day limited warranty, I contacted the Roswell CarMax location to see if the repairs would be covered. I was told they were, and I promptly scheduled a service appointment. I dropped my vehicle off at 9:00 AM. However, at 1:30 PM, I received a call stating that my vehicle was too heavy to be lifted due to a safety concern--a reason I had never encountered before. As I was out of town on a work emergency and unable to immediately remove some light items from the back, I asked to speak with a manager for further clarification. It was unclear to me how my vehicle, which is not unusually large, could be considered too heavy when similar vehicles are serviced regularly. This raised concerns about whether the advertised 125-point inspection had truly been performed. My own mechanic had no issue lifting the vehicle and identifying the rotor problem--yet CarMax claimed they couldn't even complete a diagnosis. This experience left me both frustrated and disappointed. I was eventually informed that the Roswell location didn't have the proper lift to service my vehicle and was advised to visit the Kennesaw CarMax instead. However, upon contacting Kennesaw, I was told that all CarMax lifts are the same across locations--further adding to the confusion and inconsistency. Due to the lack of support, I ended up purchasing front rotors myself and completing the work with the help of my father. I then emailed the store manager to share my feedback, and shortly thereafter received a call from the service department. They offered to reimburse me for the front rotors, replace the rear rotors, fix the serpentine belt, and balance the wheels--promising an earlier service date than Kennesaw. I agreed to give them another chance, which in hindsight, was a mistake. When I brought my vehicle back to CarMax Roswell at 10:30 AM, I was disappointed to find that they had logged the incorrect service needs. Despite being told I would receive updates, I only got a call after I reached out and left a voicemail. I was informed that the vehicle had been ready "for some time" and that only the wheels had been balanced--none of the promised repairs had been completed. I expressed my frustration and requested to speak with the operations manager. During our conversation, he told me I should be satisfied that nothing was found wrong. I asked whether he had personally driven the vehicle to evaluate the symptoms, and reiterated that this was now the second full day I had wasted due to unfulfilled commitments from the service team. I also noted that I would now need to purchase and install the rear rotors myself. As of today, the vehicle still suffers from front-end shaking and rear brake grabbing. I will not return to CarMax for service. Based on my experience, their service department is inconsistent, unresponsive, and does not honor the warranty in a meaningful way. The customer is often left to rely on the subjective opinion of the technician or staff on a given day. CarMax claims safety is a core value, but I find this difficult to believe. Their inability to properly lift my vehicle, doubts about whether the 125-point inspection was genuinely performed, and their unwillingness to address serious brake issues all point to a lack of accountability and attention to customer safety. Best car buying experience ever!! Vibes were amazing in there (imagine a Frat house of Positivity) and everyone has been so incredibly helpful! My sales people (JB and Daniel S.) were so kind and understanding about how stressful of a process buying a car is. They managed to find me my DREAM CAR within a week and the whole process felt so effortless im STILL in denial i got my bimmer. Hats off to everyone working there and to management for encouraging and fostering such a positive environment. Service is amazing- and seriously whatever you do.. get MaxCare- SOO worth it!! They are also very conveniently located next to a lot of other dealerships, however I learned the sales people have no incentive to oversell you on the expensive option, how cool!!! Great experience testing and buying the car itself. The service is very bad: Inconvenient hours to bring in (weekdays from 8-2), ordering wrong parts multiple times, literally lost one of my parts and I had to go without it for months till the rest of the parts came in, so an overall terrible experience. Ton of time and gas wasted going back and forth. I probably came by here a dozen times. Guy offered to fill up my tank for the last time I came in and a week later when that last time came he didn't mention it. I had to remind him. You get free service for 90 days but the price you pay is guaranteed multiple trips, which in the end will probably cost you in gas and Ubers. read more

Horrible care of a consumer I paid for a car to be shipped from Birmingham to Roswell. Went and looked at the car and it had been damaged on front and back bumpers in transit. They tried to talk me into buying car and then they would fix it. I declined and told them to fix it and come back to me. 7 weeks later, 11 unreturned emails and I got a text mid week that car was ready Went and looked at car today, fixed but wanted a day or two to think about it. By late in day I was told by Salesperson Tyler that I needed to decide. After multiple texts, I am out. This review is solely about the car selling experience. I sold my minivan here today. Prior to coming I requested an online offer. The offer was significantly higher than offers I received from KBB, Carvana, and True Car. I thought that they'd use that as an enticement to get me in then nickel and dime me down on every imperfection to get to about the same as the other offers. I was wrong. I brought the van in, they inspected it, they came back out with an offer and asked, "Does this match your online offer?" And it did! The process was extremely easy and streamlined. I showed up, went to the business office window, handed them the keys and online offer. Went and waited about 30 minutes in the waiting room. The Carmax buyer came out, showed me the inspection offer and asked if I still wanted to sell. I confirmed I did. 15 minutes later he came back out with documents to sign. 5 minutes after that he came back out with a copy of the signed documents, my license plate, and a check. This was the best car buying experience that I've ever had. I'm peculiar and wanted a particular model, in a particular trim level, no older than a 2019 and in a particular color. I was dealing with a dealership in Montgomery Alabama that had just what I wanted but I was really worried about driving all the way there and having them go down on the estimate they'd given me on my trade in without seeing the car. With me searching everyday, I noticed a new arrival matching what I wanted at the Stockbridge Car Max. The price was right. I was able to request a move to the Roswell location and that move only took one day. The entire process of the move was so well communicated to me via text. While the car was being transported, I did an online trade in estimate and was impressed with what was offered for my 2017 Lincoln. It was higher than all of the area Ford/Lincoln dealerships had offered me. But, they still need to see it in person but at least it was right down the road in Roswell. I was told that I could do a 24 hour test drive once the car was ready for me to see in Roswell. I first met Dawson who warmly greeted me right at the entryway. He was very personable and assisted me first with the appraisal of my trade in. That was a very quick process and they offered me exactly what I was told online! I was happy but wondering how'd they 'get me' to make up for this nice trade in offer. The car was available later for me to pick up for the test drive but Dawson was busy working with a couple when I had returned so he asked Mason to help me line up the test drive. I enjoyed the car on my 24 hour test drive and was ready to trade in and purchase new car. Dawson was again available to assist me and got the car prepped for me and followed a few of my requests such as no dealership stickers on back and some extra attention here and there. The purchase was unbelievably easy. I couldn't believe that I paid for the car through an email link that they sent to my phone. I was in and driving away in my new to me, beautiful car in less than an hour. The communication and professionalism from Dawson and Mason were top notch. The appraiser, whom I can't remember his name, was awesome as well. Sunny did my paperwork and made it a breeze. These guys are great! I had purchased a car for my daughter at the CarMax in Norcross. We had a so-so experience. I decided to give the Roswell location a try. I had visited the CarMax website and found a car I liked at another location in the Atlanta area. It was very easy to have the car shipped to my local Roswell store. I received good communication along the way, including a text and email message letting me know the car had arrived. When I arrived at the Roswell store, Bradley "Brad" Hardin, one of the Sales Consultants, greeted me right away. He asked if I had an appointment. I told him that I didn't, and I explained that I had requested to have a car shipped to Roswell. Brad then became my sales person. He found my information and the car within the computer system. He offered me a cold bottle of water while I waited for him to locate the car. He had to take a photocopy of my license and see my insurance card before letting me test drive the car. This is a little different from other dealerships. Everybody asks for your driver's license, but I've only had CarMax ask to see car insurance. Brad was friendly, personable and professional. He engaged me in conversation. He was also very knowledgeable. He knew a lot about the Honda Accord I was test driving. When he didn't know the answer to one of my questions, he went and found out. The thing I liked best is that he was trying to pressure me into purchasing the car that day. He spent more time developing a connection with me and asking questions to better understand what type of car I want. Brad placed a hold on the car I test drove to give me a couple extra days to decide. When I ended up not purchasing that specific car, he told me to let him know if I find any other cars I like on the CarMax website, because he would have them transferred to Roswell for me. If I do end up finding a car through CarMax, I will definitely return and do business with Bradley "Brad" Hardin. I purchased two vehicles at car max several years ago and had a very positive experience both times. I went there last week expecting to get an appraisal on my car and look for a new car. The appraisal was a joke (I got $3.500 more from Carvana). They had a very limited inventory of sedans and many were in poor condition. We purchased a car from Carmax in Roswell in January. There were minor issues that Carmax agreed to repair in order to make us feel more comfortable with the purchase of the vehicle. The sales center told us that the service center would need to order parts and would contact us when they came in. After 3 weeks, i called the service center. They told me that they would need to order parts and would call me when they came in. After another 2 months, i called the service center. They said that they can get the parts, but scheduled for a week out so that a loaner car would be available. I am checking in my vehicle, and they advise that they will need to order a part. I hand over the keys and they tell me that they will be in touch. There is no loaner car for me as the repairs are simple. I have no issue with their policies. My issue is that they have repeatedly set an expectation with me and repeatedly failed. If they tell me that they will order a part and be in touch, please order the part and be in touch. If they tell me that the reason for the Wednesday appointment is for a loaner, have a loaner. Carmax claims that they made no such commitment. But i drove over an hour to be here this morning. They never told me how long i would be waiting for the repair when the appointment was scheduled. I am not prepared to begin work or to have a ride take me from the service center because of what the service writer said (that a loaner car would be available because of the distance that i am driving in for service). I hope the repairs are done correctly, because the service center has failed to keep one commitment for me since the purchase of our vehicle. Do not let promises from the sales center on behalf of the service center be any part of your desire to purchase from carmax. Do not trust the service center to follow through with any commitment. I am very laid back and allow them to set the expectations for my dealings and feel they have no accountability (unfortunately, even by me as i still sit in their lobby). read more

At the Roswell, GA location. We selected pickup in store, completed the entire application online and spoke to a rep on the phone that scheduled us for a 6pm express pickup today. When we arrived at our appt, the sales rep found our order but was unsure of how to proceed to ensure he got sales credit, so he worked with a manager who deleted the order. They expected us to go through and re complete the entire order including re-running our credit. The sales manager was very unapologetic and just said that the system is new, and it doesn't always work. I also asked if the car was prepped and ready for our scheduled express pickup, and she said no because they weren't aware we were picking up the car. This is odd considering our name was on the appointment board at the checkin desk. I asked for a discount for all the confusion and our time there, and the manager offered a coupon for an oil change. Once i checked in they took my keys and started the inspection of my car. about 20 minutes later they come back with an offer almost 2500$ less than what was quoted online. They said i had engine and transmission issues. Thats when i realized i gave them the keys to open the doors not to start the car so how could they have known about any engine or transmission issues if they never started the car because I had the keys. i told them this and they looked crazy and said that's all they can offer me after i caught them in a lie. Bear with me, just a little bit... Many moons ago (read about 12 years), I had an incredible buying experience at CarMax (different location). I loved everything about it. For a used car buying place, it cuts through all of the BS and just gets you what you want without hours of extra hassles and fake salesmen placating you and toying with you and their manager/finance flimflams. Based on that, when I had a friend looking to buy a used vehicle, I immediately recommended it. We went to this location (just one month ago today) and found a car that was pretty much what he was looking for. Great! However, some due diligence pushed my friend to have a different car shipped in from out of state to get a better sport type package. The car came in way quicker than projected. When we checked it out, it had a lot of little annoyances and things wrong with it that really didn't justify the price. We talked to a couple of different salespeople (part-timers, not like we were getting shuffled around), and then told it could all be fixed, it would just take a few days due to the differences in the problems. Great. Not in a hurry; we can wait. Fast forward almost two weeks and it's ready for pick up. We go in and see.... NOTHING had been done. Didn't matter how many people we had talked to or how many people had told us the vendors were taking care of it, nothing had changed. We were then told that nothing would change until we purchased the car because then they would actually care about us. (Granted, that's a general use of my own verbiage, but that's what Allen had reiterated to us several times over.) Fine. Even when you purchase the car, they give you a seven day trial to make sure you're 100% satisfied. So, my friend bought the car, and Sean worked with us to make sure everything was told to their service rep, Jessica, and then they really hit the ground running. Now, today, just one mere month after first walking into CarMax, the car is finally home with its rightful owner. Jessica called daily to update on progress, and Sean checked in frequently to ensure all was going smoothly. Given the first two weeks of experience, I would give them less than one star, but based on the last two, it's Five Star all the way. I'll generously split the difference at a four because they really did redeem themselves. Hopefully, there are no more issues from here on out, and we can all go about our happy ways, and I'll never have to walk in there again! read more

This used to be a good company. We bought a car years ago from them. Recently, we bought a Honda and we had transmission issues, I was stranded on I75 by myself with a dead alternator. The service department is too small and not skilled. They try and get you to the 90 days and do the bare minimum. Now after just 3 months, the check engine light is coming on. Well, passed the 90 days too bad. They sell overpriced pieces of crap cars. Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM HERE. Overpriced and they can't fix the cars well. Even the employee said the CEO won't allow them to lower the prices of the cars. Just a horrible experience. And when you call the number, it's a centralized call center and they will leave messages for the staff and they never relay the proper message to the locations. Purchased a car from here and I've only had it for 8 months and the car has been deemed unrepairable- after paying for 3 engine rebuilds, a starter a solenoid 2 knock sensors and a coolant leak repair. They used to be a great company with a great selection of reliable cars, as I bought from them in 2018 and it was a great experience, but now they are selling overpriced lemons and leaving you stuck with a high car note and unreliable car. I'm definitely letting them take this car back and will suffer whatever loss I have to take. So glad I bought a brand new car recently, should have just done that in the first place. read more

When we went to speak with the finance office we got poor service. Never try to sell them a car when you have a power of attorney!! We were trying to help out my parents. We took the special form they said we needed to get motorized abs brought it back. We sat for 45 mins before being seen to be told that we had the wrong form when they gave it to us!! I usually have a tense and guarded experience with buying cars but was completely taken aback and impressed with how low-pressure CarMax was. I worked with technically 3 associates: one at the Norcross location who placed the car I was interested in on hold at the Roswell location and then 2 different associates at the Roswell location. None of them were high-pressure and I left feeling grateful for getting a great new car with no stress. In addition to the chill sales associates, the loan application and paperwork process was super easy AND took like an hour versus several hours at other dealerships. I never thought I would have a smooth and enjoyable car buying process and am glad I was proved wrong. I would definitely buy a car again from CarMax. read more

When I bought my car, the Roswell location was really nice to do some service quickly on my car. Now I'm trying to schedule an oil change and I'm not having any luck. First the number on the Internet is over all of the different Carmax locations. When you call that Number they tell you to look up the other numbers on the Internet. So I specifically looked up the Roswell location and it was the same number that was given for the corporate. I'm good at researching, so I was able to find the Roswell number. However every time I called the service department, I get the same message: that nobody can take my car, and they're not equipped to take any messages. So I have my call redirected back to the main office at Roswell. However what I get then is: We're sorry nobody can take your call please call back later. I've been trying for 3 weeks to get an oil change. read more

Got a car for a pretty good deal. The facility was clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful, until I had car issues. Unfortunately less than 90 days after I bought the car, it had a clutch issue, and CarMax sent it to Ford to get fixed as it is under warranty. Carmax told me that I would get a courtesy car as it would be 2+ weeks before my car would be fixed. I'm 11 days with out my car, and with out the courtesy car I was promised, and still no information/updates on my car. In November 2019 I purchased a used Expedition from Carmax Roswell. While they make the purchase process extremely simple, they make the ownership part beyond frustrating. In the first 45 days, I set up my first repair on the vehicle because there were issues with the rear hatch glass opening (wouldn't at all), it was running rich on start up (exhaust repair), the oil pressure was slightly elevated, and there was a check engine light on for the fill valve on the gas tank. None of these should have been all that difficult....right? Fast forward to 4 weeks - yes FOUR WEEKS later when I finally got my car back. It took them all of this time for the repair not because of the mechanical repairs but because they seriously couldn't order the correct clips to repair the rear hatch glass! I called for the repair in late December, finally got the car dropped off in early January (first appt was more than 2 weeks out from the time I scheduled it) - finally had my car back in February...and by May (and please consider COVID stay in place orders during this time) the oil pressure was back to slightly elevated, the exhaust smell on start up was back and my journey started again. It has taken me until TODAY (10/8/2020) to get ANYONE on the phone to schedule this repair. I have now driving less than 5K miles on my 'new to me' vehicle since I purchased it nearly a year ago...and am so far past frustrated with the entire lack of actual inspection done on this vehicle. It appears to me that Carmax of Roswell has decided that inspections are no longer needed - that as long as they sell those extended warranty packages the repairs won't cost them a dime...too bad it has become such a burden for the customer. They are now telling me that the loaner vehicle would likely not be available at the time of my repair (which is the opposite of what the warranty plan is supposed to cover)...that I would need to remember that I would have a $250 deductible for the repairs (keep in mind these are repairs they ALREADY "did"). We purchased a vehicle from CarMax a month ago. The overall process was pretty smooth. The vehicle we chose only had one key and we really needed two keys. The sales lady filled out the request form and said that it would be given to the sales department first this on Monday am (it was a Saturday). We never received a call or anything about getting our key made. We ended up calling by Thursday and they said they never got a form. We sent our copy over and were told that we'd get a call with an appointment date. After still not getting a call days later, we called again and they needed us to resubmit our copy of the form AGAIN. We finally got an appointment for the following week. My husband drove 19 miles for the appointment, but then was told they ordered the wrong key and that we'd have to reschedule. We still don't have a key and are so tired of trying to deal with the service department. read more

Bought a car at Carmax in June, 2009. Found a problem with the intermittent wiper sensor in the windshield during a scheduled maintenance at the car manufacturer dealer. The dealer said the particular part was not covered under the warranty. Had it fixed anyway. Then went over to Carmax the same day to see if they would cover it. Gave them a copy of the bill and said I'd be happy if they paid half, since it has been 7 months since I bought the car. They said they would consider it. The hubbs and I are in the middle of a long drawn out situation with a car accident my husband was in in February. This week he finally received compensation for his car. We've been looking online for reasonable used vehicles for a while. Carmax kept popping up in our online searches. The hubs had bought a vehicle from them before and several friends had recommended them. So on a crappy, cold, drizzly evening we trudged to a couple different car dealers just to look. We gave them our price range and they always wanted to put us in something more expensive. We went to Carmax and explained the price range we wanted to stay in. No problem, they came up with several options and started looking. A car was found and purchased with no haggling, no high pressure sales and no I need a big fat commission out of this tude from the salesman. They do what they do very well. If you don't have a relationship with dealer you trust, probably worth dropping in here. You won't get the most for your trade, but you won't be treated like an idiot either. To me the most telling thing is that they will not buy-in cars with any kind of frame damage. That right there tells you they are not bottom-feeding the used market. There are also plenty of low-mileage options, but they go fast especially given Carmax's willingness to truck cars around lots within a few hours of each other. Independents just do not have that capacity. As in any big purchase, do your homework -- with Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds etc. Know what a car you are considering should cost, especially in a given market and condition. From there it is down to test-driving and A/Bing models. Good luck. read more
