Josh and Jackson were laid back and easy to work with. We bought a electric car first but didn't like its range. No hassle return. Then we found the right car and have bee happy since. Oh and the financing was easy. Instead of back room work, they did it right in front of us and got us a lot better rate than another dealer in town for pretty much the same vehicle. Saved us $110 a month. Will definitely go back again. Seeing some of the negative reviews makes me think that some are jealous sales people from other dealerships. read more

I was going to sell a car to CarMax. Got a decent online offer. I took the car in with my wife following me in another vehicle. Arrived and my car was "appraised" within minutes. Here is where the problems started. We sat for well over an hour waiting for someone to talk to us. They were not that busy. Finally I went to the business office window to see what was going on. A young lady looked me up on the computer and said she would take care of it and would be right out. She came out and handed me the appraisal sheet which offered less than half of the online appraisal indicating it did not qualify for the online appraisal because of a transmission problem. Now, I bought this car new. It's been taken care of and there is no transmission problem. I declined the offer. I found the "appraiser" and asked him what the problem was with the transmission. He said there was a clunk when downshifting to 1st gear. To be fair to CarMax I was able to duplicate the problem and found it may have a worn thrust mount. A $50 fix and certainly not a problem with the transmission. My biggest issue is the way they handled this. Left sitting for almost an hour and a half. Nobody would talk to us except the office help after I complained. They could have handled this much better. I won't be going back. read more

The reason this establishment got 4 stars instead of 5 is for the simple fact that they allow you to hold cars online. They have tons of people holding cars online so when you go in person and scan the cars, most cars show unavailable as someone's already held it. We were looking for a Toyota Rav4 and every single one was being held. I scanned nearly 30 cars and 4 showed available. Regardless, we found one we would be interested in and headed inside. Sat down, applied for the loan which was very quick and easy. They got us the exact payment we were in search of and honored my online trade in quote of $3,000. I am fed up with this place and won't ever be back. I wish this place didn't exist because I have to see it every day on my commute. The customer service is horrid and the lack of education on how to enter and complete a credit application with a 1099 status is ridiculous for an establishment this large. I have purchased three vehicles here for my sons and was harassed every single time but never wrote a review. One vehicle that I really wish my son didn't want (Dodge Scatpack) took 8 hours to deliver because they couldn't do simple math on his bank statements. Might I add we had a pre-approval before we arrived but they managed to complicate things in every way they could think of because they are devilish and have personal biases. We had to redo the credit app. The finance company had to tell the tattooed manager "Hey we approved them. Give them the car". I'm not against tattoos. I'm just describing her so hopefully, you can avoid this person who may be having personal problems at home. They were FLAT OUT refusing to proceed due to their personal opinion that my son couldn't afford the car. Well, he left with that car a year ago, and in fact, he is doing a nice job affording it. The very next week, I go in with my other son to get a Ford Fusion he was pre-approved for THROUGH CARMAX over the phone and was met at the door with "He can't get this car because that finance company doesn't approve gig work". My sons are in college but they WORK which is more than I can say for most folks these days. You ought to be elated that I have children who WORK. Again we left with the car because the finance company told them to mind their business and push the transaction through. Carmax and its employees acted as though the finance company dropped the ball and needed their help in making sure we could get a car. I am TIRED of miserable people who have ego problems and feel like it's their duty to be controversial for no REASON. They are calling these types of people "KARENS" and this manager is one of them. She is consistent with her bad attitude or at least with us she is consistent with her negativity. This is the entire tone of this place in my experience. They put up resistance for no good reason. Maybe their hourly pay isn't enough and Carmax needs to increase the worker's incentive pay per vehicle. My husband and I have also test-driven several luxury vehicles that were for me and the vehicles were downright FILTHY. From a filthy, practically new Porsche Macan with visible candy stuck in the tray to a Benz AMG GLE43 Coupe that needed a jump before I could test drive it. I would have kept that ghetto mess to myself as a business practice. Needless to say, I was nervous as heck on that test drive lol. Recently just this week, my son wanted a Camaro and against my better judgment, he was unconvinced that we would again be mistreated and decided to test drive one at this place. I hate the sight of CARMAX but went with him. Well, they looked at me at age 52 years old and his age 24, and told us both, "Don't do anything stupid in this car". I hung my head and gathered myself and even tried to make Sarah feel comfortable by telling her our plans to travel to Walmart, park and look at features then return within the 20-minute time frame. I also told her not to worry that when I test drive a car, I am nervous also and take extra care not to wreck it before I can bring it back. She looked relieved as we pulled back up to Carmax in one piece as she was nervously waiting outside. LMAO! She also reiterated that we had 20 minutes only which was understood from the beginning. Sarah also mentioned that their system alerted her that we were returning customers. I CANNOT with these people but this time we have cash so we are going somewhere else. I finally begged my son not to continually patronize a business that is unappreciative and doesn't want his money! We need to get in control of our wants and make these businesses compete with nothing less than EXCELLENT service. Go HOME if you don't like your job. Also, DO your job specifically and leave the finance company's job to them. Leave my job on what I can afford to me and the banks. Leave what kind of car we should LIKE and drive to us. I hope this is understood and may whoever took the time to read this be blessed abundantly by God and richly rewarded with great service, a good deal, and a reliable vehicle that's attractive and stylish! read more

I never was offered to test drive my car, I wouldn't have bought it. This was my first time ever buying a car, really didn't know the process or what to do. I was alone! I did not feel cared for at all. Sold with mechanical issues, and even a recall that wasnt fixed. Here is my rating and I will be posting all over. I am bummed and said for my experience. I had been trying to get car looked at since 2 weeks after I bought it, service dept couldn't get me in for like 3 weeks, well my car was shaking horrible, so i asked service man I talk to what to do? He said you can take your car elsewhere and we will reimburse you for all service done during warranty, I said okay and what about transmission, he said take it to dealer its under warranty and if cost arise we will reimburse you. So i took my car to Les Schwab for balance and that when the said rim is bent, still haven't been reimbursed. So then took car to Chevy dealer and they informed me that i needs an immediate transmission flush because fluid is so dark its as if car was driven into ground before sold. So I did so, again still havent been reimbursed. Then covid-19 happened, i get it, places closed, the corp office got me in touch with local mechanic to fix bent rim, local mechanic said tires are bubbled and need replaced, took me outside garage to show me my tires bounce in balancing device they have, I drove it and at 55-65 it will get a shake, again was told to replace tires. Carmax ignored local mechanic and never called me back. Well here we are in May, car still shakes, and now my breaks squeak, heater dont work and transmission still acting funny. I finally get in touch with someone in service dept, and I feel she pretended to care, but I feel like I was jacked around. I finally get car in to be looked at. I am told this BS: Breaks had dirt and dust. Well thats not correct because I left with them squeaking again, and my car still has issues like its breaks are engaged, its the calibers are bad, but your "mechanics" say it was dust, so explain to me why they still squeak? oh wait you guys said I dont know what I am talking about, still not fixed. Heating- Okay radiator went bad, fixed. Transmission- Lady in CARMAX service said its just a Chevy thing! no there is something more to a hard shift, still not fixed. Tires- was told by your "mechanics" they dont feel it but other mechanics have and suggest a replacement....hmmm. interesting, oh and still shakes, still not fixed. But I was told car is fixed no longer under warranty because COVID-19 and to figure it out on my own! NOOOOOOOOOOO that wrong!!!!! They say they extended the months of a warranty due to covid- 19, but if you drive for part of your living and went over the mileage of warranty its void! NOO I still have a broken, piece of shit car that needs fixed! They never tell you about the bumper to bumper mileage warranty, they just bullshit and use the selling point of bumper to bumper for 3 months!! I will never buy a car here again!!! This is the worst place I have ever gone to purchase a car it took 4 hours .. promises that in writing are not honored . the sun roof worked till we left the lot when we took it back to get fixed they said they had to order parts I had to call them 5 weeks later to see if the part was in yet and they say it just came today . Highly doubt that.. I can never get threw or get a call back and after only 200 miles the clutch goes out . Seems like they rig thier cars just to get them off the lot .. I had a great experience here! It was my first time purchasing a car on my own, but they made it very easy and non-complicated. Everyone I spoke with was friendly, and not once did I feel pressured or scammed. You don't negotiate car prices here- the price tag on the car window is exactly what they sell it for. I personally liked that I didn't have to haggle or nitpick over numbers. The car I purchased ended up needing a new battery, but they changed it before I left the lot, and they asked to keep the car over the weekend so they could double check that everything else was working. I got a free rental car during that time, as well. They seemed to genuinely care that I left with the car that was best for me, and that I'd be safe in. I have to say, when it comes to buying a "previously loved car" (formerly known as "used cars"), I think Carmax is the best thing going. Without even going to the dealership we were able to peruse the cars available. We used the website to look for the exact car we wanted - all over the U.S. We were able to find four cars that matched our list of requirements (color, year, style, and for wifey, a moon roof). We put our name and phone number on the site and within a few minutes a sales rep called us. We told him what we were looking for and in which cities they were located. They didn't have a car that matched our requirements here in Reno. We understood that if they had to have a car shipped to us we would have to pay for shipping. Fine. If you want something and it's not HERE, you BRING it here. The sales rep would call the Carmax lot where the car that we found was sitting and a Carmax rep THERE would go out and check the car out. Sort of a mini-inspection. First one reeked of cigarette smoke - so we passed. Out of the remaining three cars, the one we ultimately settled on was in Maryland (we are in Nevada . . ). $999 shipping cost and about a month wait. Once here, we drove to Reno to check out the car. We were still under NO obligation to buy it (but we would forfeit the shipping cost if we didn't). As hoped, we LOVED the car immediately. We signed the appropriate papers and it was ours (though a computer glitch kept us and another couple stuck in the building for over an extra hour). We had five days to decide if we wanted to keep it. Otherwise we could turn it back in - no questions asked (though it's hard to believe there would be "no questions asked" . . .). Then, we had 30 days to find anything wrong with the car. Carmax offers a 30 day "true bumper to bumper" warranty, which we took full advantage of as we found a few items that needed attention. We got new brakes, new battery (after our first day home, the car left us with a dead battery at the grocery story). One of the sun visors (the kind with the vanity mirror and lights) would not shut off the light when it closed and left burn marks on the visor, and they replaced it. One of the fancy computer controlled keys would not work, even after they replaced the battery twice, so they got us a new key (which works perfectly now). The one night they had to keep the car they gave us a loaner. Nice. One of the key things about shopping at Carmax is car prices. No haggling on this. The price is "the price". No back and forth dickering like you do at all the other dealerships. If you don't like the price, too bad. If you DO like the price, life is good. Some say you don't get the best price at Carmax, and maybe that's true. You have to decide how much YOUR time is worth. Do you want to spend a day (or a week, or longer) going up and down 'Auto Row' dickering with different sales people? And will you find the exact color you want, along with all the accessories? No sales person telling you if you don't buy it right now, it'll be gone tomorrow. To us, this was a trouble and stress free experience. We got exactly what we wanted, and the service after the sale as been exceptional. Carmax has stumbled onto a new way to sell cars, and I think it's working. If I could give ZERO stars I would. I found a Toyota Sequoia at the Reno NV location, called the number listed on their website to schedule a hold on the vehicle and a test drive. I live in rural NV, a four hour drive to Reno. I had been looking for a specific Sequoia for several months and was very excited when I found one close enough for me to drive to. I had my financing in order, ( check in hand ). I asked the sales person about the condition of the vehicle and he assured me the vehicle would be throughly gone over, exterior, interior and engine and ready to purchase if I liked it. When I arrived for my scheduled appointment it took over 30min for Paul Alvarez my salesperson to locate the vehicle. When I did the walk around I noticed there was body damage to the drivers side door, enough that the door would need to be replaced, painted ect. The interior was dirty, not vacuumed, holes poked in the interior ceiling, spilled beverages in the cup holders. I was more than disappointed in the sate of the vehicle. This was something I was assured would not be an issue as Carmax is very thorough with their inspections before they sale a vehicle. After driving 4 hours, having the financing ready I wanted to work out something with Carmax. They offered to fix the damage on the door and holes in the interior ceiling. We talked about when I could drive back and finalize the deal. They assured me that I could pick it up the following week, Tuesday , Wednesday at the latest. We booked a hotel for the overnight stay giving them until Wednesday to pick up the vehicle. I was the one to call the dealership repeatedly to check the progress and was told Wednesday would be the day. When I arrived in Reno on Tuesday I stopped by the dealership and was told check back in the morning. Wednesday comes and it still was not ready. I have spent 16 hours driving back and forth, hotel money, gas, and food and I am done with Carmax. If you are considering Carmax, DON'T! Avoid them like they are the portal to HELL. My daughter bought a Nissan Juke here. She loves the car but the accessory part for her remote start... Not good! She paid to have the remote start done by "installernet" a vendor of Carmax to do the work. The worst experience ever... first the vendor "installernet" website is always down and had to try calling many times over the course of a week to get an appointment scheduled, days to get one. The installation took 5 1/2 hours and has had so many intermittent problems. The issues were so bad after a week even "installernet" told her to take back the assessories to Carmax for a refund. I had an appointment for my extended warranty for about two weeks now for two minor issues, when I get to the appointment I find out they only have one of the issues on the paperwork. So then I would have to make another appointment which is out a month and would have to pay my deductible again. I could just cancel this appointment and take care of everything in a month but when a shop cant even get simple paperwork right before you bring a car in how could I be sure they would get all the repairs done. read more

The sales process went well - Bob was a joy to work with. Customer service? Not as much. I bought my car on 8/25/17. In my contract, under the 30 day warranty, it lists tires covered. Yesterday while driving on the freeway, the driver next to me waved me down: I pulled over and discovered I had a flat. "Thank god this happened today under the 30 day coverage," I thought! Turns out, however, though tires are listed under the issues covered in 30 days, it doesn't mean what it says. I was told by the Carmax rep I spoke with that "tires" doesn't actually refer to most issues with your tires. It covers, maybe, the air pressure sensor. Thank heavens for that! Everything else falls under user error, apparently, and that comes out of customer pocket. Even though there _was no_ user error (I had the AAA guy who put on my spare inspect it - no punctures or anything... I don't know why it went flat), it's still not covered. Basically putting "tires" in the contract as covered is for marketing purposes only: it's the display model that doesn't actually function. I say again this review is specifically for customer service/after care. The shopping experience itself was serviceable and friendly. UPDATE 10/16: _Another_ tire is flat. I could not be happier with my car buying experience at Car Max. I saw the make and model of a car I was interested in appear on the website, so I placed a hold on the car which I thought was a great idea so no one could buy it out from under me. Within 10 minutes, Gregory Wunderlin called me to confirm a time. Unfortunately, when I arrived Gregory had been feeling ill and asked me if I would work with his associate Logan Nicholas. We took a drive and since I really hate parting with money for a car I hemmed and hawed. Logan never appeared to be irritated, which he could have since I was making him work for a fickle car buyer. He suggested a few more car which I did not love, and even talked me out of a car he felt would have been a emotional purchase and less practical for my needs. After which Logan said, "tour the lot, every car is open, and we will check on you later. WOW what a no pressure experience. I love this about Car Max, no hovering salesmen, and absolutely NO PRESSURE! I later settled my mind and thought that this was the car was me. I went in spoke to Logan and said I would to buy the car, but I need to transfer funds, and since it was Friday night it would take longer to transfer funds. Again there was no pressure to buy and choose their financing , no problem to hold the car until I got my cash ready. I noticed they took the car off the website listing that night and it was as good as sold even though I was a few days from driving it off the lot. I felt bad that Logan spent all this time with me and he was going on vacation, he assured that it was fine, and he and Gregory work well together so again no pressure from Logan to make sure he got all the sales credit. On Tuesday with funds in the bank I went to buy the car which took less than 30 minutes with Gregory. There was no pressure to buy the extended warranty and Gregory even helped me decide which options on the warranty made sense for me, again no pressure to buy anything extra. Even reviewing all the paperwork was a breeze, Jessica Dillard was efficient but caught every mistake, awesome attention to detail. During this time, my car was prepped, even gassed up and a big yellow bow was on it so you could take a picture, a cute touch! Logan even texted Gregory to send his congratulations to me on the purchase, even though he was on vacation. My last car purchase was 19 years ago, that is how much I hate shopping for a car, but I would not hesitate one minute to go to Car Max again. Yes the cars are used but their buyers know what they are doing, as my car was practically brand new and they offer every make and model you could want. Once you decide you would like to look at a car, ask for Gregory Wunderlin or Logan Nicholas, they will not treat you wrong! Logan's honesty and integrity is something you will not find sales very often. I spent less time with Gregory but felt he was equally honest, something I thought I would never find in car sales. I am posting this review based on an ongoing experience that started February 26th 2017. I am helping a friend of mine who wanted a new car. She drove a Toyota Camry for about 10 years and wanted to step up but save the hit of a brand-new car so she picked a 2014 Lexus 350. Lexus = GREAT car. CarMax = not so much. She didn't want to have to haggle, so Carmax's "price posted is the price you pay" policy is why she selected this dealership. Here's the thing, and to put this in context, she (the buyer) is a senior female, and I think they saw her coming and decided to "take her to the cleaners." She choose a car that wasn't on the lot. So before she could even see the car they charged her $1000 "shipping fee" on top of the price. She would have been ok with this if the car was as advertised - that is in perfect condition, no accidents, etc. When the car arrived there was immediately issues. While the car is "no accidents reported" IMO it has been clearly rear ended and anyone that knows anything about cars should of seen that. The bumper was discolored and the way it was installed was not factory. The gap on the left hand side, as an example, was twice the right. The corners of the bumper cover were an orange color while the car was beige. Carmax said they would refund the fee and repaint / reinstall the bumper cover. Just a note - I did an Internet search and couldn't find anything where Toyota / Lexus are having trouble with their rear bumpers falling off. After a week went by Carmax didn't repaint or reinstall the bumper cover. When she went to pick up the car they didn't want to honor the refund either, instead trying to offer her "4 oil changes" and saying "we can't really refund that fee". They did, but it took an hour of argument. So she took possession of the car with the bad bumper. It also turned out it had bad tires, was missing the trunk cargo cover, missing navigation - she knew this but they said there would be a $2000 discount, there wasn't - and kind of destroyed the experience of getting a new car. To make it right this is what's having to happen on top of the retail price from CarMax: 1) Bumper Repair and repaint at 3rd party shop - $484 2) Trunk cargo cover - $300 3) Tires - $800 4) Navigation Upgrade - $2000 Oh, and two other things. The tires are very upsetting. When the tire was low, 3 days after taking possession of the car, she took it to a tire shop and they found the tire had been repaired two previous times and couldn't be again. CarMax states they have a "CarMax Quality Certified Guarantee" where they spend "up to 12 hours renewing each car". This didn't include checking the tires? That leads me to believe they didn't do anything, or how could we know. So she took it to a mechanic to have it checked. And finally, the car was sold to her as a 4 wheel drive. It turns out, it's not. It's an all wheel drive. These are two different things that have similarities but aren't the same. She went back to CarMax to try and get these and other issues resolved yesterday (3/24), now almost a month of problems. They said they "would see what they can do" but we still don't have an answer. If we get one I will update my post - but bottom line AVOID CARMAX!!!! Total expenses to date on top of purchase price that were unknown: about $3500. This should be refunded to the buyer. read more

This review is based on our past several visits here in Reno CarMax, we like to browse their car lot without salespeople trailing us, we could sit in every single car or test drive them all without having selling pressure from the salespeople, or inviting us to the small office to go through "The Numbers" before they let us out of the store. Every time we were done browsing the car lot, we simply walked out without having to explain to anyone why we are not taking a car home that very day... I couldn't have been more displeased with Rondel, the salesman I had to spend almost 9 hours with. He insisted so many times throughout the experience that he genuinely cares about me and my experience and how much he hates typical car salesman pressuring people and being aggressive. He fit that mold to a T. I got a vehicle shipped to the Reno location and was already 99% sure I was buying the vehicle. I had been hardcore searching for this exact vehicle for the past couple years. The fact that I almost walked out on this guy twice during our meeting is saying something. The way he belittled me and tried to make me feel dumb for not wanting whatever warranty coverage Carmax offers was pretty slimy. When we were inspecting the vehicle together he asked me "what are you noticing, what do you see". So I said well there are quite a bit of scratches. Very long pin stripes and scratches all over with very poor touch up paint. So I only mentioned there were more scratches then expected because he prompted me for a response and in the most condecending, negative manner he asks, "what did you expect its a used truck." Then started saying other passive aggressive things about how I need to lower my expectation and maybe I should just go buy a brand new truck so it doesn't have scratches. Terrible vibes and poor customer service. I'm not going to get into much more. I spent almost 9 hours with him so I have a lot more I really want to say. Last thing. The vehicle was covered in white dog hairs. It took me around 7 hours to fully clean the vehicle when I got it home. There was so much melted gummy candy under the back seats. The sales process seemed so easy - they took my money with no problems. The salesperson promised that the car would be fixed immediately and that the 3in gash in the bumper would be repaired. Carmax also used the wrong touch up paint on the body of the Audi- to which the sales person said if I got the right touch up paint, her service department would be happy to fix the mess they made. 2.5weeks later, the touch up paint is not going to happen. AND service told me today that they have had the part for the Audi for 5 days but really can't get to the car because they are too busy. When will we get our car? No one knows and no one returns calls. I even got a text from the salesperson instead of a phone call and it was 5 paragraphs long. I recently bought a 2018 Ford Escape Titanium from CarMax in Reno. It was a great experience, I had found the car myself online, then talked to Charlene at CarMax here about the car. I did a pre approval for finance though the website, then decided to have the car shipped from Phoenix to Reno, after Charlene checked that it was in good shape. The car arrived within about 5 days, I made an appointment to see and test drive it. I met with Cameron for the test drive, loved the car, so went ahead with the deal. My 1st purchase with CarMax was perfect. My recent purchase not so much. I was notified the car was delivered but no notification of when I could drive the car. After a few days I left messages that were not returned. I then visited the facility and was given no information on when the car would be ready. I was told they would reach out to me for the info. NO CALL. After several more days I went to the dealership again. I was advised the car would be ready in 20 minutes. At the bank getting the check I was called and advised..... oops just kidding the car will be available next week "sometime". This prompted a complaint to the general manager. He returned my call saying the delay was due to the car arriving with a dead battery and key FOB issue. He would get back to me with more information, NO CALL. After about 10 days I was notified that the car was available for a test drive. When I tried to start the car I got an alert battery low start engine immediately. It seems they never fixed the problem and just passed it on to me. I've owned the car for 2 weeks and it continually gives me the warning. Other issues are a rear hatch that does not open properly and interior lights that are burnt out. Not what I expected for a $55K car. Quality service lacks. And PLEASE DO NOT BLAME THIS ON COVID. As this is every companies Goto excuse when their product/service is lacking!! read more

I bought a Lexus from them in April and my blind spot monitors went out so I took it to Lexus bc it was covered by their warranty still and they pulled off the bumper where the monitors are located and there was definitive damage inside and the bumper had been repainted and placed back on?! Carmax wouldn't help w anything!!! Said they were not responsible.. so in a nutshell I had to pay Lexus for the work, pay for a rental car, make an insurance claim on the damage I had to pay a deductible for that.. Here I was, lost and confused buying my first 'big girl' car all on my own. I had recently blown the engine on my Chevy Colbalt and figured it was some sort of calling for me to take a look at buying a newer car. I called CarMax about a month ago and spoke to a salesman who said he would help me look for some models of cars I was interested in. I figured he was setting up some sort of account for me when he asked for my name, some background information, an e-mail, and a phone number. I didn't hesitate on providing him with all of my information. He told me he would email me a couple of cars he thinks I would be interested in; I thought it was a nice gesture. By the end of the evening, I received 46 emails and 3 text messages from this guy. I was flat out annoyed. I never replied and for the next week and a half, I was texted at least twice a day asking if I liked any of the cars he sent me via email. Finally, he received the gesture I wasn't interested in his services. I can understand its his job but he butchered my mood. I figured I would walk in and see if I could have better luck finding a car in person. I was greeted immediately when I walked in by a different salesman named Troy. He took the time to get the feel for what kind of vehicle I was looking for. After looking at a couple of cars online through their computer system, I found a couple that I wanted to see. Troy walked out with me to the lot and was patient through the entire process. I always pictured test driving a vehicle with a complete stranger would be awkward but it was the opposite. Troy made me feel completely comfortable and relaxed, there was never a dull moment. I never knew how exhausting buying a car for the first time would be. I didn't get the APR I had hoped for when I was quoted through CarMax's credit unions. I decided to try out a local credit union branch in Reno before I did anything else. I fell in love with the Subaru I test drove and was surprised when I was told he would hold it for me for a few days. After I got approved for a vehicle loan and found a better APR I decided it was time to sign the papers. Troy offered to come in on his day off to help me out with my vehicle. A short poem about Carmax Reno: Stainky. Jainky. The end. Went in with two vehicles to trade in and a decent amount of cash to put down. I knew more or less what I wanted. When they didn't have "exactly" what I wanted (their inventory blows), the inarticulate salesperson showed me some "close alternatives" that weren't really in the ballpark, but were close enough that he talked me into three test drives. Every car I drove had at least one "issue" that he was going to "pass along to the service people." Thus began the game of trying to find a car that didn't have issues rather than trying to find the car I knew I wanted to find in the first place. Long story short, I simply went to a dealership and bought a certified pre-owned vehicle with an extended warranty. Happy clam, I am! Now I know. This is the first time I have ever bought a car from Carmax and I can't say enough great things about my experience. I had been looking online for an SUV and found one that was within the free transfer radius. The sales rep Rondel called me to ask more of what I was looking for and explained the transfer process. He called the location and had them do a walk through to check my criteria and unfortunately it had a little smell of smoke. I told him that was a deal breaker so he searched for another comparable vehicle and had the walk through done. He ended up having that transferred and communicated throughout the process when it would be delivered, etc. I made an appointment to go and see it but it turned out not to be what I wanted. I was then able to walk the lot at my leisure looking at all of the other vehicles without any pressure. I could fold down the seats, sit in them, etc. I ended up finding a completely different vehicle that had everything I wanted. I took it on a test drive and then was able to put it on hold while I thought it over. I ended up setting an appointment to purchase it 3 days later and to trade in my vehicle. Again, there was no rush or pressure as I test drove it again and they washed the outside for me. I got the appraisal and completed the paperwork easily. Rondel was very thorough and told us all about caremax, what to expect with a vehicle like mine, etc. I felt very informed to make my decisions and I love that I could drive it for 7 days and if it didn't work I could bring it back. This was such an enjoyable experience and Rondel already followed up to see how I like it so far. I highly recommend Carmax and Rondel next time you are shopping for a vehicle. read more

I hate car dealerships... (I mean despise them). The haggling back and forth from "finance" to the waiting room.. Trying to meet in the middle with a monthly payment you think you can afford, only to find out you're paying double the cost of what the car is worth. The hours and hours of waiting - with the need to bang your head against the wall... We have bought not 1, but 2 vehicles from this CarMax since we've moved to Reno. Why the second? We decided to trade in my mom mini van (not for me... definitely don't fit the soccer mom stereotype) and upgraded to an Infiniti JX35 SUV 4 wheel drive (jet black mind you). I survived 1 winter in Reno without a 4 wheel drive... Never to do that again. (This ain't Vegas). Each car buying experience was a breeze. I feel that we got a fair price on both our Ford F150 truck and SUV - and couldn't be happier with our new rides and the customer service at this dealership. I was in the market for a new car and was skeptical after having some issues with other dealerships in town. I decided to try Carmax because they were new in town. When I walked in I was greeted with a smile and Tyler was more than willing to listen to what I wanted and help me to achieve my goals. He worked diligently to make sure that I had exactly what I wanted and even though it was a lengthy process he made sure that I drove off that lot with a car I love!! We even went back four months later and bought a truck. Our family will never buy anywhere else! No stress, no drama. 100% quality and upstanding customer care. This was a review I had hoped I would never have to edit but I am. I needed to take my car in to be serviced. The first time I let the pawn off slide because it was brand new and I wanted the issue taken care of by the manufacturer if it could be. The second time I was having issues with the dash cluster lighting up. I brought it to Carmax with my four wheel drive engaged and parked the car. The next morning I brought in the keys because there weren't any after hour slips. I talked to Paul and told and showed him what was happening to my car. He proceeded to pull my car warranty up and tell me to take it to Hyundai because they would cover it under the manufacturer warranty and I wouldn't have to use my Maxcare (yes I have Carmax warranty). So I drove my car to Hyundai in four wheel drive, in the middle of summer, because Paul said it would be covered. Much to my dismay when I got to Hyundai I was informed that the warranty only covered the original owner and that I was out of warranty for second owners and that my Maxcare coverage would not cover my repair or my rental! Cheers to Carmax getting off free and clear on my repair again. Sadly I have to change my rating because of this. I cannot give five stars to a company who allows departments to treat their customers with this amount of disregard. I left it with three stars because I also never have poor experiences with the business center. When I come in every month to pay my bill they are nothing but the most helpful and friendly! read more

Positives: A lot to choose from Golf cart experience Clean bathroom Nice staff Knowledgeable manager Decent financing Negatives: -Most of the inventory is from fleet companies such as enterprise etc. -Dirty chairs in wait area-looked like they were stained with food or drink -Pressure to purchase maxcare was not ok with me -Oil in the car I purchased was due for an oil change about 100 miles after the change date-according to the CarMax sticker on the windshield ! (Really? You guys couldn't have changed it before you sold it?) Overall it was an ok experience.
