To start, I bought a 2010, had it shipped from Las Vegas. The process of shipping and buying the vehicle was painless and easy. I really do like my vehicle and has really low miles (30k) and in good condition. But that's where the good ends. When I was looking at the vehicle I noticed the tires were kind of cracked up, I made my concern known to the sales person but he assured me they pass inspection even though they were the original tires (8 year old tires that were baking in the hot Nevada sun), so i trusted carmax on this. After buying the vehicle, a few days after the low tire pressure light goes on, I top off the tires and bring it in to carmax. They replace one tire that had a patch that was failing, free of charge. Passed inspection huh? So I take it to 2 different tire shops to have them look at the tires. Both shops AND the tire manufacturer say that 6 years is the max tire life REGARDLESS of tread depth and whether they hold air, this was also stated in my vehicle owners manual, so now who would you trust? To describe these tires real quick, imagine cracks around the entire circumference of the tire where the sidewall and the tread meet, also there was literally cracks around EVERY TREAD on the tire too. These are safe? So I go back to carmax and explain this to see if they can replace the other 3 under the 30 day warranty and they say that they "stand by their inspection results", denying right to my face the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. So I reach out to corporate, they call the carmax location and come up with a "resolution", that they would sell me the tires at their associate cost. Now these are OEM tires with no warranty and their cost is more expensive than going to almost anywhere else. So I reach out to corporate again and speak with a higher up, I ask him personally if he would drive his family on tires in that condition. I also say that I'm planning on buying a Prius with my girlfriend in the near future and that the sale is determined on how carmax resolves this issue. They gave me the same "resolution"..So after spending 20 thousand dollars and selling me a vehicle that isn't safe, they can't do the RIGHT THING and spend $382 on tires to make my vehicle safe? They'd rather (and DID) lose another 20 thousand in potential business by not doing the right thing and spending 382 to make it right. Needless to say, I ended up buying new tires SOMEWHERE ELSE and my girlfriend and I are in the process of getting a Prius, from a Toyota dealership. SHAME ON YOU CARMAX. I went here because I heard how great the customer service is and especially so when trying to make things right, I guess once you buy the vehicle the "great" customer service ends. So the finish this off, I spend 20 thousand on a vehicle that have tires that should have been replaced BEFORE being sold as they were a safety hazard, then when trying to get them replaced I have to jump threw hoops, not get called back when they say they will, lied to my face, slapped in the face by that ridiculous "resolution", and ultimately shined on by a company worth millions or more. Ask yourself if you'd want to spend another 400 to make a vehicle drivable right after you just spend 20 thousand on that same vehicle..that's just not right. Ask yourself if you want to do business with a company that can't and won't stand by their brand or word, SHAME ON YOU CARMAX. read more

I had a wonderful, easy and GREAT experience at Car Max. Checked cars online, reserved it, went down to check it out, test drove it, signed all the papers and drove it home. The salesman, Carlos was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. I would highly recommend Car Max to anyone. I also went back a few days later to trade in my old car..all in all I was there probably 2 hours total both days. I'm very happy! Thank You Carlos!!!! read more

Carmax Oxnard just called me and told me they got my 2013 Ford raptor in and that they fixed the broken knob and took it for a test drive. Really means the kid went joy riding with my truck for no reason. On the sales purchase receipt it says it was a Carmax loaner vehicle for 60 days, which means the Carmax employees got to joy ride it for 2 months. This is a bunch of crap that the employees get to drive a truck like this that's made for off-road. You know what these young kids did to it...they drove the shit out of it. They probably broke the knob. CARFAX report says 1 owner but now it's been treated like multiple owners. Nice truck before Carmax got a hold of it. The 4 wheel drive button shouldn't be broken at only 52,000 miles. And clearly they didn't do an inspection before trying to sell it. Unprofessional place, and everyone that works there sounds like a telemarketer and knows nothing about cars. read more

What a great experience. Just bought a car at CarMax and it was such an easy, no stress process. I'd pay extra just for the lack of pressure and upselling... but I didn't have to! Frank helped me through the process of transferring the car from Buena Park to Oxnard, and Dang helped us on Frank's day off to get through the purchase. When we went to buy, I didn't quite know what to expect but Dang was super knowledgeable about the car and about the car buying process. In and out under three hours, including visual inspection, test drive, trade-in appraisal, paperwork and signing. Highly recommend if you're in the market for a new-to-you car. read more

After purchasing a car here and being told that there were 2 recalls on the vehicle (the seatbelt buckles), I found out from the dealer that there were actually 5 recalls on the vehicle including a problem with the gas tank and the engine. Had I known about that, I would not have purchased the car. And when I sowed carmax employees the documentation about the extra 3 recalls, they pointed out that they do not have access to jnformation on all the recalls. (So if yiu are lurchasing a car here, call the dealer with the vin njmber before uou purchase the car to make sure you sre being told everything. I wonder what other necessary information they do not have access to?) In addition the tires are out of alignment which is causing excessive damage to the tires which carmax says still meets their standards so they wont replace the damaged tires. Which would be fine if they were willing to realign the tires. But alas, the mechanics at carmax decided that since the car does not pull to one side or the other, there must not be anything wrong with the rear alignment. So naturally I wanted to take the car somewhere competent to have the issues fixed. However carmax is unwilling to pay for the repairs unless they are done in house with their mechanics who have demonstrated an inability to even LOOK AT the problem, much less fix it. So now I am waiting on the service manager to come back in 2 days so that I can take the car in for the 5TH TIME in 2 weeks. (Which is 50 miles every time) Please please PLEASE get the car checked by a qualified mechanic that has access to all relevant information about the car before making a purchase here. read more

My wife and I went to carmax oxnard to test drive car, liked the car went inside got all the numbers was fairly satisfied and told them we were going to decide, as we were leaving my wife wanted to take a picture of car to send to granddaughter, I noticed the tires were completely bald and told my wife I was going back in to tell them. Sales guy came out with us looked and felt all four tires and said immediately that he agreed and would take the car in to the service manager. I said to him there is no way we would consider a car with bald tires and that was a deal breaker, he said I will call you. 5 minutes after we left he called and said they would not change tires, car was as is. I told him those tires would not be safe to even think about driving on them even 10 miles. Mind you we are in our seventies and they could have cared less if we drove off in that car with bald tires. I told them I don't even think it would be legal to sell that car with those tires. I would never recommend anyone buy a car from them with that kind of uncaring attitude read more

I bought a 2012 Nissan Armada from this location back in early July. Overall, the experience was pretty good. No pressure and no salesman BS. I'll summarize the overall experience, including the reason I'm deducting one star from my rating: The Good - 1. I dealt with two sales persons, and they were both very professional, as was the sales manager. 2. The SUV was in pretty good condition, all new fluids and purred nicely when I fired her up. 3. The back two tires were brand new, but the front two tires gave me pause, as they were quite worn - one looked like it was out of limits tread-wise. However, both front tires were replaced after a quick inspection with no hesitation. 4. Getting through the paperwork at the "checkout" counter was super quick and easy. 5. They do offer a 7-day no-questions-asked return policy and a 30-day bumper-to-bumper warranty (which I used to have four things fixed) which they are quick to honor. 6. Upon my initial inspection, I noticed lots of trash under the third row seat. When I brought this up to the sales manager, he quickly cleaned the area without pause. The Bad (not too horrible) - 1. I noticed corrosion around the battery terminals and brought this up to the sales manager. I wanted them to replace the battery. He had someone clean it and told me that it passed inspection, so it should last me awhile. I had to replace it four months later. 2. A couple of weeks after I bought the Armada, I decided to give it a thorough cleaning. I noticed so much dirt, sand, grime, and debris in almost every hidden surface. The cup holders, trays, compartments, under the seats, you name it. I learned before this that the vehicles are cleaned by a third party to "showroom quality". Carmax - you really need terminate your contract with this company and hire a new auto detailing firm. They are a lazy bunch. 3. One person at Car max absolutely sucks at customer service - the service desk manager (NOT the service line manager - a very sweet man!). This man became quite a jerk during my first service call regarding the tires. His future employment there should be called into question. For used vehicle purchases, I'd recommend Carmax over any other used car dealer in the county. read more

I was really pleased with my experience at Carmax, especially because of their no-haggling policy. I was able to shop online for specific qualities I was looking for in a car, and accessed all the shops in Southern California. When I found one that met my criteria in Buena Park, I just filled out he form online to request that the car be transferred. Within a couple of hours Jose called me and confirmed that he car was being transferred. The same morning that the car was available in Oxnard for me to test drive, another car that met my needs showed up online in Oxnard and I was able to place a hold on that one as well. When I came in to the shop, both cars had hold stickers on them for me and I was able to test drive them. Because the sales staff get the same commission regardless of what car they sell, there was no pressure to up-sell me to a more expensive car than I wanted. Altogether a great experience, and I'm sure I will bring my business to them next time as well. read more

I helped my bro finance a car. They gave him a generous offer for his 98 4runner with over 300k miles. He saw the car he liked and they took a while trying to find us a decent loan. We did find a better rate at a different bank and my bro got the car he wanted with the payment and term he could comfortably afford. read more

We had a great experience at CarMax in Oxnard. Logan was our salesman. He was knowledgeable, pleasant and patient. We bought one car that they had brought in from another store. We went today to sell our car to CarMax. The process was so easy and the price they gave us was very fair when looking at the KBB. We first worked with Cliff to begin the process. He was very expeditious but professional. Jess helped us once we got to the payment option. While they did ask us if we wanted to consider purchasing a car from them, there was no hard-sell attempt once we told them that this was a sell only situation. After having contacted a few "we will take it off your hands" type businesses, we have found that CarMax was the best way to go with the best offer for our vehicle. If we had to sell a vehicle, CarMax would be the first place we check. read more

I wont ever buy from Carmax again. The sales team was terrible, but I want to say that the lady doing the final paperwork was very nice. Sorry i cant remember her name. It took almost 3 and a half hours to complete our sale, and we were pre-approved for financing. Also we had to take our truck back 3 times for repairs, however, the service dept did work things out to our satisfaction and they were willing to help and they kept in contact with us. Thanks and kudos to Zed and Brian for their help and professionalism. read more

Carmax is built on the concept of transparent used car buying. However the sales men that helped me purchase my vehicle was anything but. The guys name is Chad Ray, please be cautious of this snake because he WILL LIE TO YOU in order to sell the car. I purchased a 2012 Lexus is250, this is was the dream car and I found the perfect one and had it shipped to this location. I couldn't get the days off to look at it so I had my mom check it out for me, gave her a list of things to look at and inspect. She thinks it's ok I give her the money she buys it for me. Low and behold the oil was never changed, all of the filters were dirty and the two from tires are completely bald. This is where chad came in. He tells my mom all of these things have been done before the car is sold. Not only that she notices the tires are bald and asks him, so what does he do? LIES, tells my mom they are racing tires. Here I am two months later telling the service department my story and they can't help but laugh at how much of a pos Chad is. I would give this place no stars but the service department alone has revived some of my faith in humanity. Chad needs to lose his job. read more

The purchase experience was simple and the salesperson was very accommodating (let us drive multiple vehicles, etc.). However, 4 days after purchase, the vehicle (2016 with only 17k miles) would not start and I was stranded 20 miles from home (at night with 2 kids in car). After jumping the vehicle and delivering back to CarMax, the Service Department told me that it would be 3 days before they could service the vehicle (what?). After arguing with them they managed to service it the next day. Also, I sent two email messages to my salesperson advising him of the situation and NEITHER message was returned (to this day I have not received a response to my questions). I will NEVER buy another vehicle from CarMax. Better to stay closer to home (in the event of an issue) and with a dealership that stands by their product. It's too bad as well...because the concept of the business is good. They simply cannot execute. read more

As far as selling my car to Carmax, I did encounter a no-hassle, no-pressure process. Steve was especially a pleasure to deal with. The total appraisal process took less than an hour. I was not completely satisfied with the offer they made though as I expected few thousand more according to KBB. But being in a rush to sell my car before transmission issues got worse has caught me between a rock and a hard place. I know I should have paid to get it fixed to sell it myself, thinking retrospectively. It all worked out thoug and solved my problem one way or another. read more

I came here to get a car because of a terrible experience I had at Toyota. They were condescending and straight out rude. I was anticipating getting similar treatment but it was completely different. He made this whole experience seem like a breeze. I'm glad I came here. Go to Car Max and ask for Darren you won't be disappointed. read more

I went to get a appraisal today at CarMax in Oxnard and I must say that I had a very excellent experience. I worked with Kimber who was absolutely amazing. This is by far the worst nightmare of a car buying experience I have ever had! I purchased a car and after signing all of the documents and receiving the keys, the trunk latch jammed. I was told to bring it back the following week. They had it for a week. Then I picked it up and it broke again along with the convertible top. I moved so I took it to another Carmax location closer to me. They had it for over 12 week's total!! (9 weeks at once) every time I called to inquire where my car was and why ion earth it is taking so long, I got excuse after ridiculous excuse. Half the time they never called me back and they rarely took my calls. I had to bring it back several times and each time it was filthy or scratched and the last time I picked it up there was actual body damage (that they tried to buff out) the customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. I have sold two cars to them with no issues but their service department is bottom of the barrel. read more

I was looking at a Kia. I forget the model. New it was 15 thousand dollars MSRP. They were asking for a price in the low 14 thousand miles and the car had approximately 40 thousand miles on it. I emailed them and the guy said that the price would not come down under any circumstances, and that their cars are in really good shape which is why they are priced high. I checked out other cars and models. Most of carmax's cars are priced about a grand over the Kelley blue book Value under the "certified pre owned" selection. What a rip off!! I wonder if people that buy from carmax just don't care about spending an extra thousand bucks, or they don't do their research. There are some positive reviews on here. I am impressed that many people have an extra 1-2 thousand dollars to blow on an unfairly priced car. They are selling them above market value. Maybe all of these people can donate their extra money to me? So funny! That place is a rip off!!!! read more

I have purchased many cars over the years and CarMax has the best customer service, I have ever experienced in a car dealership. The whole process was easy and smooth. No pressure from salesmen bugging you on the lot. An appt to meet with a salesperson was scheduled as I walked in the door, at the Oxnard dealership. All salespeople are rotated fairly all thru the day. Everyone there was really friendly and helpful. My salesperson, Ricardo, was great. Knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful.I was able to compare 5 different lenders rates and terms, right there on the computer. 5 days opportunity to decide if you really love the car or want to return it, is very fair. They were very reasonable with my trade in. I drove away in a beautiful Toyota Camry. My experience was definitely 5 stars. I recommend them highly to anyone I come in contact with. read more

This was the first time we purchased from CarMax (actually first time ever we purchased a used car in over 35 years of driving...). Note that we did not trade in our car (over 220K miles, keeping it as a first car for our 15 year old son), so I cannot make ny comments about their trade in policies (which resulted in a most of the negative reviews here...) It was easy to locate the car we wanted on the website. price was cheaper than any other "certified" used car (truecar via credit union, other purchasing sites, etc), lower than KBB and Edmunds... They had a free car history report, which by the way disclosed more than the additional car history I paid for... The exact car we wanted was not available locally, so they delivered it within a week. We came in to test drive it, the car was ready to go, and we were driving it within five minutes. They allowed us a very long test drive as my wife wanted to see how it pulls up a steep hill about 10 miles out. We discovered some issues with the car which prevented us from purchasing it on the spot. We also had some timing issues as far as their 5 days return (we were going out of town, and would not have been able to drive it within the 5 day return period). When we came back, it took about 30 minutes to purchase the car, and some of the issues were already resolved by then. the other issue, which was not so minor, we wanted them to replace all four tires, took a bit longer to resolve. but they got exactly the tires I requested, which per Tire Rack are much better than the Goodyears OEM. All the people we interacted with were polite, courteous, professional, and with the issues we had to deal with several people, all the way to the management. The only minor hitch was that after they special ordered the tires (took about five days), their service dept was so busy that it took three weeks for the earliest appointment. by then the five days return policy was gone, and my wife was concerned that they will renege on their verbal promise... But they did not, and they gave me a free oil change, since in these three weeks we drove the car quite a bit, and the oil change monitor was saying only 13% oil life remaining. So, overall I am very pleased, with the minor exception of having to wait three weeks for service. I will recommend them to anyone looking for a new car, of course telling them to do their own due diligence and compare prices first. read more

Very helpful! I found a car from another Carmax in San Diego and they had no issues sending it out to me for free! Because of my schedule I could only arrive just before closing but the sales team including Brad has absolutely no issues staying an hour past closing making sure all the paperwork was complete and that j could leave with my car that night. This is the 2nd car we've gotten from Carmax and I strongly recommend them to anyone and everyone looking for a vehicle. Do not hesitate to see what cars are on the lot, also go on their website and find cars at other Carmax dealerships and if they are close enough they will be transferred to the one closest to you for free! If you go, ask for Brad, he is professional, not a pushy salesman, and knowledgeable about the entire car buying process. read more

We can't say enough about our CarMax experience. Our salesperson, Anita was the best! She took the time so show us all the different makes of SUV's that we shopping for. We returned the first SUV due to our mistake, CarMax took the vehicle back (as promised) and decided on another year.
