This was my first time buying a CarMax vehicle, and I have nothing but good things to say about CarMax, both in Oxnard and Burbank. I have been doing research on my childhood dream car seriously for about a year, just to be ready when the right one came along. I pulled the trigger on my 2012 Corvette with 34,000 miles on it, and the process with CarMax was second to none.
Transfer - I saw my car online at the Burbank store and talked to and emailed with Patrick, who got in touch with me within a half-hour after I expressed interest in the car on the website. The site said the car was "not transferrable". That was an error, apparently, and when I said I'd like to test drive it in the store closer to me, Patrick got in touch with Bryan at the Oxnard store. The Vette was in Oxnard THE NEXT DAY. Wow.
Sales - I talked with Bryan and wanted to schedule a test drive, which was tricky to do because of my work hours and family schedules. When my time didn't work specifically for Bryan, he simply told me Priscilla would help me out. I would guess the reason the sales process has NO pressure at all is because it's not based on commissions and their anticipated profit is in the fixed price for the car. All three seemed to do their best to accommodate me and make sure I loved the car before I bought it. I paid in the high end of the value range, but still $1,700 below the top value for a similar certified one from a dealer. Coincidentally, if I bought their extended warranty, that would make it about equal in price.
Quality - the car seems like it is everything they said it is. All general maintenance items are is perfect condition or were replaced (fluids, filters, tires, brake pads, etc). I took it to my mechanic and we put it up on the lift - all looks great. What other place offers a 5-day money back guarantee on their cars? That, my research (including test drives of other Vettes), and their 30-day warranty made it a comfortable decision for me.
Overall, a great buying experience, with every staff member having a great attitude, from the front door through the final paperwork team (I used my own money and a Capital One blank check to buy). I did not buy their extended warranty because I felt confident in the car's quality, background check, and maintenance history (written in the manual), and the reviews on service are horrible, and I told them that. But I would also offer that buyers need to do their research and not have unreasonable expectations for old cars with high mileage, from what I read. Hopefully there are no surprises in store for me with my ride...
Highly recommend buying from CarMax! read more
