My partner has buying and selling from CarMax for years from multiple locations... He said that the Oxnard CarMax is literally the worst CarMax he's ever been to and by FAR. I just bought a car from them and they LIED about certain things in the car not working and about prepping it for sale. They said they checked and fixed everything beforehand but they did not disclose that the cigarette lighter and speedometer don't work, a warning appeared within 30 minutes of buying it saying that the brake light is malfunctioning, they said they'd add a mount for the front license plate but after I bought it they told me that they didn't have any, AND they didn't even fill the car with wiper fluid! To top it off, it wasn't cleaned or detailed AT ALL even though all the other cars in the lot were. They blatantly lied saying that they cleaned it before and after I asked them to do it but they obviously did not because the same exact stains were there, stains that I was able to smudge off with my finger without much pressure. God knows what other problems this car has that they haven't told me about. When I brought this up to the service department, they were so impatient with me and rude towards me. They did not want to work with me at all to fix things and actually snapped at me saying to just return the car then. What an AWFUL establishment. It's like they are asking for a lawsuit for false advertisement and breaking a contract. Avoid this locations at all costs unless you want to be completely mislead and lied to about the condition of their cars. I'm honestly astonished at the lack of conscience these people have. read more

All in all a very pleasant experience. We sold them our late model Honda after it was suggested to us by a new car dealer. We had been getting low balled for our trade, in spite of new tires, front brakes and recent rear brakes, good maintenance and very low mileage. Why only 4 stars? I thought that the offer could have been a few hundred dollars higher, considering the low amount of prep that would be necessary with our vehicle and the low mileage. They were about $300 below Kelly Blue Book trade in value for or area, though their offer was above the trade in estimates we had gotten from our dealers and a full $1,000 above the trade in offer from our original dealer where we purchased our Accord new, thousand oaks Honda. I would recommend Carmax in Oxnard to anyone looking to sell a car and from what I know of CARMAX from family members, to purchase an auto as well. read more

Purchased a VW Minivan from Carmax with a warranty. Emergency break light indicator kept coming on even at high speeds. So I took it to Carmax Service thinking it was covered on the warranty. The result, the problem was a simple front axle break pads replacement. Cost? $312 which included a so called diagnostic fee of $119. I could have gone to a local mechanic and replaced the pads for half the cost. I complained about the experience and the service manager promised to make mends by refunding the $119. Three weeks later no action, no refund! If you have a problem with a Carmax purchased vehicle, you are better off finding a local mechanic to diagnose the problem. You'll probably save a lot of money. I'll only go back to Carmax Service if it's absolutely the last resort. read more

After an EXCELLENT buying experience in 2018, with a Lincoln SUV and a BMW coupe, and 2 excellent experiences with the service department, this dealership has gone straight to terrible. Wait: make that terrible on steroids! I couldn't WAIT to tell friends and colleagues about the outstanding customer service. It all seems like a mirage, now, really. No one ever actually answers the phone in the service department. after 4 attempts, and being always asked to leave a message "and someone will call you back", and NEVER do, I envision a department with a cold wind blowing down unoccupied desks with cobwebs and just a lone phone ringing endlessly. I'm not used to being COMPLETLY blown off as a physician, and a repeat customer. No one even responded to my request for a call back from the general manager! I came in and bought my first car here two weeks ago. Zed was the associate that helped me and I couldn't possibly be more happy with my experience here. I looked at a few cars and decided to test drive one and ended up loving it. We went inside and talked logistics. The only complaint that I have is Carmax's "No Haggle Policy". There's no wiggle room at all. Zed was very patient and answered all of my questions patiently and was very helpful. The next time someone I know needs to buy a car I'm sending them here for sure. I bought a beautiful car in Nov 2021. My experience with my salesperson was not all satisfactory. He was pleasant but was not knowledgeable about the cars or the buying process and was overall very lazy. In a small conversation he mentioned how he had been promoted from a maintenance tech to sales and liked it because he "didn't have to do anything and got more money". My experience with my finance person was great and seamless. I had an issue with my car within the first few weeks and worked with a Maintenance Tech, Michelle, who was incredibly helpful, communicative, pleasant and professional. Even though the problem with my car could not be resolved, Michelle alone deserves a 10 star review for her professionalism. However, my experience with Bob, the salesperson who got commission for this deal, was incredibly poor, which is the reason for this poor rating. Additionally, the initial issue with my car was never resolved and another issue occurred. I was unable to even schedule an appointment for service after calling over multiple days and leaving a message with an employee who took down my information and confirmed I would be receiving a call back which never happened and for that reason I do not recommend CarMax of Oxnard. read more

A 2017 vehicle with 40k miles on, no signs of wear inside or out, very good condition, clean title, no accidents ever, regularly serviced by the dealer. A great experience and handled professionally. Overall everything from start to finish went extremely well and smoothly. My only 'flaw' was in the beginning when the salesperson (from what I could tell) didn't think I was a serious buyer. After booking a transfer and giving all the info needed, you could see the switch flip in how they acted towards you. The transfer went smooth and I was updated as needed, and the walk around/test drive went very well and was very informative (from flaws, to information). Never pressured. After defects were noted the car was taken the the service center after an appointment was booked, the team went above and beyond to inform me on exactly what was going on. Ahmed was my rep. for the service department and he was a huge part in the reason as to why this experience was so great. He called every morning and afternoon on what was going to be planned for the car and what was accomplished that day and then what to expect moving forward. The first, a Mazda CX-9, was running strong with almost 90,000 mi when we sold it back to Carmax- no problems at all throughout the time we owned the car. The process to sell/trade-in our car was simple and quick, with an appraisal completed in 30 minutes and a great price offered. We just purchased our second vehicle from Carmax, a Toyota Tundra, a few weeks ago after having it transferred from Buena Park. The process is simple. It is refreshing to not have to worry about haggling- AND they were offering the best price around. The only reason for 4 stars is that the financing offered was not competitive AT ALL. This wasn't an issue for us in particular as we went in with a preapproval from our credit union, but if we were going to finance through CarMax, we would certainly have to consider whether or not the value on the car was worth the financing cost. Overall- the staff are extremely friendly- from the sales staff to the managers to the business office staff. All friendly and helpful AND no pressure! read more

They're super friendly when you go in to purchase one of their cars BUT as soon as that car starts having issues, they slam the door. We bought a 2015 Chevy Equinox about 15 months ago (March 2017) and the car has been giving us trouble since the beginning! First it started with constant low tire pressure light and we kept filling the tire with air. We finally had to replace the tire and then the AC stopped working! We still have not fixed the AC because we wanted to inform carmax. Before we were even able to call them and let them know, our engine started to fail. The "engine power reduce" light cam on and driving it, we can feel it starting to die. We immediately called carmax and not to our surprise, we have to wait 2 weeks to be seen! How do they expect us to get to work or run errands. We are so livid that they aren't doing anything to help sooner! We have a feeling we are probably going to have to trade it in for another car and lose our money. We will NEVER buy anything from carmax! read more

Worst "customer service" ever!!! Rude on the phone, rude in person. The car we purchased from this " auto supermarket " was a lemon from the start! Never ran right, continuous problems (turbo, brakes, transmission)....spent more time getting "repaired " then we did driving it. Mechanic staff has NO idea what they're doing....car was in several times for the same thing after we were assured it was fixed! Do yourself a huge favor and look elsewhere for a vehicle. Oh, and if you do buy a car from them with a manufacturer warranty still in effect, the manufacturer will not honor it as CarMax is not a dealer.... they are a auto superstore...so that's another thing they don't tell you until you're screwed!!! read more

Terrible! The purchase experience was smooth but the service experience has been terrible. I made an appointment to have a few items repaired prior to the end of the 90 day warranty they claim to have on the vehicles they sell. The service advisor, Jared, was initially quite nice and stated that the car would need to go to the dealership since the items needing to be repaired may still be covered by the manufacturer warranty. Either way, he said Carmax would honor the warranty. Two days later the car was delivered to the dealer, at the end of the day on a Friday. I had to call both of the first two days for any kind of update. The following Monday, now 4+ days after my appointment, I again had to call the dealership and Carmax service for an update. Ahmed appears to be trying, but with no results. A simple sunroof readjustment and two small pieces of interior trim had yet to be fixed. Now the service advisor is telling me the sunroof would be handled by the dealership but that his service manager needed to look at the trim pieces to see if they would be covered. Seriously? I'm now on day 6 without my vehicle with no idea when the items will be repaired, if at all. The smooth buying experience has been washed out by our very first service experience. ::Update:: at the end of the 7th day the warranty repairs were still not performed and I requested my car back. Upon pickup one of the pieces of trim that was loose was laying part in the console and part in he passenger seat. To make matters worse, we also noticed that the car has three new large scratches to the middle of the rear bumper where someone hit it. I immediately notified the manager on duty who promised me the GM, Brenton, would be notified and would call me in the morning. The sales manager, Anthony, later that evening confirmed that Brenton was notified and now 18 hours later, nothing. So, they didn't repair the warranty items and then returned my car to me in worse condition than it was before trusting them to make the repairs. read more

my boyfriend and i went in on a wednesday before i had to be in work in the valley at 2pm. having two kids under 2-1/2 leaves us extra stressed out in already stressful situations. we arrive 15 minutes early in the rain and they let us in early! sat us in a few chairs and made sure our son was situated in their open windowed play room. in no time we were introduced to Tommy, who took our critera, as well as our life situation, and wrote them down to help us find the perfect vehicle for our gas saving family car. unfortunately on our side we had a hiccup and couldnt prove my boyfriends proof of residence (who has the main buyer on the car) Tommy walked us through what to do and even kept in close contact with me to help me with any questions. he even offered to come in on his day off if it meant we got a reliable vehicle sooner. i know a alot of people would say "of course he did, he gets paid" but honestly when you are a full time working mom of a toddler and a little baby, anyone willing to give up their day to make sure my kids had a safe vehicle to be transported in is a saint. he stayed until 8:50pm Friday and helped us finish our paperwork and ensured we got out in a timely manner. I am completely blown away at what an awesome experience coming here has been each and every time. I bought my van a little bit ago. I got a incredible deal with a warranty that's just amazing. They needed to do a smog check on my van for the DMV for the registration. They gave me the option to get it done somewhere and just send them the receipt and get reimbursed or come down and they'd fill my gas tank. I decided to drive down. From the second I got here everyone had been so nice. Aida the customer adviser took care of me. There were a couple of questions I had about my van and they sent a technician(Paulo) who took a drive with me and explained everything. When we got back he took the van in and started working on it. About 20 minutes later he came and took me with him and showed me the van while it was up on the lift. He made me feel like he really cared about me being 100% satisfied with my questions and concerns. The peace of mind that Paulo gave me was just incredible. I was made to feel as if I were the most important person in the whole place. Nothing rushed, just great customer service. If you're looking to buy or sell your car, this is the place! Made an appointment and arrived on time. Salesman Darren was not ready and said it would be about 1/2 hour wait and we could look at cars on lot. We had reserved a car we saw the day prior, but found another car on line that was more what we were looking for. That car was on another lot so we did not see it on our previous visit. When the car arrived for our test drive it was not cleaned on the inside. The car description led us to believe that it my came with "run flat" tires as most Minis do, but on inspection we discovered that was not the case on this one.
