He gave me honest advice on how to stay within my budget, how to search multiple stores on the app and find a car to be transferred to my local store for a drive, options for financing, extended warranties and basically all the things I did or didn't need to be protected. My partner has buying and selling from CarMax for years from multiple locations... He said that the Oxnard CarMax is literally the worst CarMax he's ever been to and by FAR. I just bought a car from them and they LIED about certain things in the car not working and about prepping it for sale. They said they checked and fixed everything beforehand but they did not disclose that the cigarette lighter and speedometer don't work, a warning appeared within 30 minutes of buying it saying that the brake light is malfunctioning, they said they'd add a mount for the front license plate but after I bought it they told me that they didn't have any, AND they didn't even fill the car with wiper fluid! To top it off, it wasn't cleaned or detailed AT ALL even though all the other cars in the lot were. They blatantly lied saying that they cleaned it before and after I asked them to do it but they obviously did not because the same exact stains were there, stains that I was able to smudge off with my finger without much pressure. God knows what other problems this car has that they haven't told me about. When I brought this up to the service department, they were so impatient with me and rude towards me. They did not want to work with me at all to fix things and actually snapped at me saying to just return the car then. What an AWFUL establishment. It's like they are asking for a lawsuit for false advertisement and breaking a contract. Avoid this locations at all costs unless you want to be completely mislead and lied to about the condition of their cars. Went to CarMax with my daughter to find a car. Salesman was super nice!! They appraised her car and because it had 1 accident AND they LIED and said the frame was bent they offered her $3500 on a 2011 Cruze!! (Dealer across the street offered $4500 and NEVER mentioned frame) He showed me a bracket on the radiator, that has NOTHING to do with the frame, idiot!!! I called our body shop who fixed it and our insurance and they said "NO WAY was frame bent, they just want to under price your car"!!! After an EXCELLENT buying experience in 2018, with a Lincoln SUV and a BMW coupe, and 2 excellent experiences with the service department, this dealership has gone straight to terrible. Wait: make that terrible on steroids! I couldn't WAIT to tell friends and colleagues about the outstanding customer service. It all seems like a mirage, now, really. No one ever actually answers the phone in the service department. after 4 attempts, and being always asked to leave a message "and someone will call you back", and NEVER do, I envision a department with a cold wind blowing down unoccupied desks with cobwebs and just a lone phone ringing endlessly. I would give 5 stars to our salespeople, Clint and Anita who each helped us immensely and were very patient, professional, personable and best of all, honest & not at all pushy. They get the same commission for selling a Porsche 911 as they do selling a Nissan Versa, so the system is set up to eliminate them trying to push you into something you can't afford. Their communication was great and they even sent text messages and emails when they found a new car listing on their inventory that fit our search. I could reach them virtually anytime I had a questions and they did not send me unnecessary messages. Here's the deal: you have to understand what Carmax is, and what it isn't. You have to have the correct expectation when you go there. Personally I hate any car dealership, I think buying new cars is dumb, and I have always bought my vehicles used, on my own terms in the private market using auto trader, craigslist, etc. You are not going to get the deal of the century at Carmax, period. You are going to pay more than you would buying from a private individual who's selling his car on his own--about $2,000 more, give or take. But what you do get at Carmax is some peace of mind and a very efficient, well-oiled machine that can save you tons of time. At a regular dealership (new or used) you spend hours bickering and bargaining, and of course have to deal with cheesy, pushy salespeople who know less about their products than you do. They have a bad reputation for a good reason. You can be in and out of Carmax pretty quickly, which is nice. We went to buy the car we had chosen after a few test drives and we were driving home in an hour! No BS, no surprises, no hidden costs, just straightforward and to the point. Nice. So what else do you get for Carmax's inflated "haggle-free" pricing? They are very selective about what vehicles they put out on their lot and they do go through a very thorough inspection process, as well as a very extensive reconditioning process, if necessary. They have their own mechanics and body shop so anything they find on a car that isn't up to standards gets repaired on-site before going onto the lot for sale. Keep in mind the higher the price, the higher the standards are for Carmax vehicles. But even our measly $11,000 car had pretty strict standards and when our salesperson found a few details that didn't meet those standards, he sent the vehicle back to make things right. Most all of the cars on their lot look and feel like new, and you won't see any crappy cars with body damage, bad tires or cracked windows on their lot. You also get a free Carfax report which is nice. And they give you a 30 warranty on top of a 5-day return policy which gives you peace of mind and lets you make sure you like the car and that nothing is wrong with it. None of these things are an option in the private market. Here's the biggest advantage in my opinion: you have the ability to search and pull from the ENTIRE inventory of Carmax across the entire United States. That is a huge advantage if you are at all selective about the car you want. For me, I insisted on a 5-speed manual transmission and my salesperson, Clint, found the exact model of car I wanted with a manual transmission about 3 hours from here and had it shipped to Oxnard for free without any obligation to buy it. He shipped it here just so I could see it and test drive it. You can do that for any car within 500 miles. Now if you find your dream car outside of that radius there's a shipping fee of course, but at least you have that option to buy it even if it's in Georgia. Even the shipping fees are reasonable actually. So the only reason I'm giving 4 stars on this review is that there seems to be a bit of a breakdown in communication at times with the service department, and it seems there is a bit of sloppiness on the part of the folks in charge of reconditioning vehicles before going on the lot. We noticed some shoddy work (cosmetically) and some other minor details that didn't meet standards. Regarding communication, I brought my car in under warranty to have the brake pads examined and the AC checked. Somehow my concerns over the AC didn't get passed all the way to the actual person in charge of my car. When they called to say my car was ready and I asked what they found out about the AC the service rep had no idea what I was talking about. So a couple hours later it was checked out and I got another call to pick up the car. So while the division of labor and army of specialized workers can bring great efficiency, it can also lead to confusion and communication issues. This problem is not unique to Carmax however, and maybe my experience was an isolated incident. They still treated me professionally and completed their tasks. I should also add that they were very gracious and programmed an extra key fob alarm for my car at no extra cost, even though I technically got 2 keys with the car. read more

Made an online appointment to have my car appraised, with the hopes of purchasing from them. A gentleman named Robert called me shortly after booking the appointment and walked me through what CarMax does and how they do their best to serve their customers. I made the appt for today (Thursday 6.28.18) and he informed he'd be off that day. The day comes, I pay to have my car detailed, and head to Oxnard from Camarillo in traffic. I get there and sit down with a girl named Alyssa. She does not introduce herself (was told by reception her name) and asks why I want the appraisal. I tell her I want to know CarMax's value on the car. She proceeds to pull up Kelly Blue Book (like I didn't already do that before wasting my time to drive there) and tell me what it's worth. Insinuated that I was an idiot for leasing my vehicle to begin with bc "you'll always be upside down on a lease". Kept saying she didn't want to waste the CarMax guys' time if KBB already said what it was worth. Told me to wait until my lease was up and then turn the car in, and attempted to explain to me like I'm an idiot what a lease is... I'M SORRY. WHY did I was my time, money, and gas to drive to you for you to not introduce yourself, never get out of your seat, and try to tell me that I should've never leased my car?! It's infuriating! I wish I'd rescheduled and met with Robert who CLEARY wanted the business. She was abrasive, condescending and rude. Being a 22 year old female, the car buying process is difficult. WARNING DO NOT BUY FROM CARMAX OXNARD They have yet to take the van back or admit they sold us a car completely over blue book value that was not properly inspected as claimed in their big inspection propaganda. Cesar is no longer the service manager there however the fact that we are still stuck with this lemon is absolutely absurd when we would be completely upside down on the loan even if we had brought it back three weeks later. We drove the van around for two years fighting with Carmax while the van was shaking on the freeway. Went to corporate, still nothing. I am still on insurance agent and I still warn my clients to not purchase from Carmax and will continue to do so. I will not buy a car here again nor I do not recommend this dealership to anyone. To be fair, my issue is more with the service rather than the product (but we have only had the car in hand for approx. 5 days) We were promised four things by our "Sales Associate" named Jeremy when we agreed to purchase a car (which was a Christmas gift for our daughter): 1)Window tint on front window to be removed 2)Window tint on side windows to be removed 3)CarMax decals would be removed 4)Fender would be fixed Only two of the four were completed - fender and tint on front window removed. We purchased car Thursday evening, 12/19. During the purchase process, our Sales Associate entered the wrong zip code which caused a higher tax. During the signing process the mistake was caught (I have no complaints about the young lady who assisted us with the paperwork, she was kind and apologetic). Human error is understandable but the fact that our Sales Associate complained we had 3 different addresses on our licenses bothered me. The tone in his voice was like he was annoyed with us?? Sorry, but the zip code that was entered in error was not listed on any of our driver licenses. We were given the option to start all over (another 30 minutes of our time) or receive a "Draft" of the difference in price. We selected "draft". About 5 minutes later we are told a "draft" could not be completed and it would be a refund check mailed in 2 weeks. We were understanding of the need for a refund check rather than draft - we were paying the full price of the car via personal check (though we verified funds in the account with the CarMax manager). So we agreed to receive a refund check. I did get this in writing in the form of a letter on company letterhead so the odds are in my favor that this will happen. There was a car service work order we were asked to sign, we noticed two of the four things we were promised were not included on the work order 1) side window tint removal 2) CarMax decal removal. Our "Sales Associate" said he could not put these two items on the work order but he "personally" promised these would get done. I firmly believe in getting everything in writing but I decided to take a leap in faith and trust the guy. We were told the car would be ready the next day (Friday). We did say there was no rush and we could even pick up the car Saturday or Sunday. On Sunday 12/22 when we had not heard anything from CarMax, we called to get status and were told the car would be ready Monday the 23rd. We received a phone call Monday around 10:30am from the CarMax service department that the car was ready and the two items on the service order we completed. We then called our Sales Associate for status on the other two items and that is the first time we were advised that the side window tinting could not be removed. The reason being it was factory tinted. This was something our Sales Associate argued with my dad about when we were looking at the car. My dad thought the side windows were factory tinted and our Sales Associate said to him more than once "no, they were not." Once again, we did not get a phone call from CarMax about the side tinting, we had to call to get an update. Communication is key here. During this phone conversation we asked about the decals being removed. Again, we were personally promised by our Sales Associate that the decals would be removed by the time we picked up the car. When we went to pick up the car that evening..... guess what??? Yup - decals were still on the car. Another thing, - the car was dirty. It was clearly not washed Monday morning. Being that this was a Christmas gift and we had one day before Christmas Eve, we left with the car as it was. CarMax has this policy where you can return a car within 5 days of purchase and receive a full refund. We were verbally told by our Sales Associate that we would be given two extra days to return the car (very nice gesture). CarMax refused to put that in our contract anywhere (we received a sentence on the back of the Manager's business card stating "two extra days - 12/27"). Why could they not include this agreement in our contract? I am pretty sure I know why. My dad texted our Sales Associate on Christmas morning about our disappointment in his service, not expecting a response. Well, he received a response. There was what seemed to be a sincere apology at the beginning but then lots of blame pushed back on us. Also, we are lucky he could get the car ready for us by Christmas. Really? Does it normally take CarMax 7 days after purchase to deliver a car? Oh yeah, he included in his text that he was happy to hear my daughter loved the car. We will not be returning the car (thank goodness.. who knows what kind of battle would have ensued). My daughter absolutely loves the car. Like I said, no complaints about the product. Staff is incompetent. Management has not demonstrated integrity. I ordered a transfer from Buena Park to Oxnard. I received a confirmation call from rep stating that it was securely on hold for me. I even went into the Oxnard later that night to be told by another rep that the original rep hadn't performed a hold correctly - but rest assured that he did it and car would be here in 2 days. I received a call from a 3rd person at Oxnard the next day saying that someone is currently test driving the vehicle in Buena Park and nobody ever placed the transfer correctly. After waiting several hours to get an answer .... I'm finally told that the car is being sold to someone else. Why not just find another similar car? It's a rare car and there is not even one found nationwide. Oxnard sales manager response is 'sorry' and he will give feedback to the group as to my complaint. read more

He reviewed this Carmax shortly after, making it very clear that Kiara could not possibly be the way I described. All I can say is: Sales associates are not the same with every customer. Who knows if you are a real "customer" at all? I don't know why you would go through so much trouble unless you secretly work for Carmax and are trying to save your image, or if you are just some random guy overcompensating for something. You should probably address that and avoid bickering with strangers on their personal experiences - it's useless. Everything is relative. We took our 2006 bmw 325i with sport package with 92000 miles for an appraisal and to our surprise the guy took about an hour; finally we got it and was so low at 5000 even. All in all a very pleasant experience. We sold them our late model Honda after it was suggested to us by a new car dealer. We had been getting low balled for our trade, in spite of new tires, front brakes and recent rear brakes, good maintenance and very low mileage. Why only 4 stars? I thought that the offer could have been a few hundred dollars higher, considering the low amount of prep that would be necessary with our vehicle and the low mileage. They were about $300 below Kelly Blue Book trade in value for or area, though their offer was above the trade in estimates we had gotten from our dealers and a full $1,000 above the trade in offer from our original dealer where we purchased our Accord new, thousand oaks Honda. I would recommend Carmax in Oxnard to anyone looking to sell a car and from what I know of CARMAX from family members, to purchase an auto as well. read more

Never heard of CarMax before but my place of work and coworker purchased a car from them last month so when my car was dying, I thought I would check them out. We actually found our car using their "App" the car was in San Diego so they shipped the car for free to Oxnard and it got there fast (3 days). I was approved for a loan over the phone before I saw the car and the people I was contacted by were so helpful (application process, letting me know my car was ready to be seen). When I went to go see car and get my car appraised it was very easy. There were a ton of people at CarMax waiting to be seen but since I already had an appointment to see the car, I never had to wait. Once we wanted the car the process was pretty easy, we got the value of our appraisal for our car (which we thought was fair), we purchased the car with one employee, then signed the papers with another employee and waited for our car to be cleaned and ready to go. Only thing I could say was that while I had to turn in 2 keys for them to buy my car. The car I bought, I was only given 1 key and a valet key (so I had to pay $175 at Honda to get a key made for my husband). The car also wasn't very clean on the inside, lots of sand from the previous owner in the car and trunk and just needed a deep cleaning and a good vacuuming. Within our 30 day warranty we had a few issues, rattling noise and hood of car wasn't secure but they easily fixed this, when we made an appointment and came back. Update-they had said the car had never been in an accident but the window in the back wasn't original and there was cracked paint from a hit on side of car. Since the window was never put in properly in the back even after we had them check it when it rained our trunk got wet. Wouldn't buy a car from carmax again after having the car for a while. read more

I bought a beautiful car in Nov 2021. My experience with my salesperson was not all satisfactory. He was pleasant but was not knowledgeable about the cars or the buying process and was overall very lazy. In a small conversation he mentioned how he had been promoted from a maintenance tech to sales and liked it because he "didn't have to do anything and got more money". My experience with my finance person was great and seamless. I had an issue with my car within the first few weeks and worked with a Maintenance Tech, Michelle, who was incredibly helpful, communicative, pleasant and professional. Even though the problem with my car could not be resolved, Michelle alone deserves a 10 star review for her professionalism. However, my experience with Bob, the salesperson who got commission for this deal, was incredibly poor, which is the reason for this poor rating. Additionally, the initial issue with my car was never resolved and another issue occurred. I was unable to even schedule an appointment for service after calling over multiple days and leaving a message with an employee who took down my information and confirmed I would be receiving a call back which never happened and for that reason I do not recommend CarMax of Oxnard. read more

In Burbank they quoted be $12000 and didn't included a factory package, the person i was dealing with said theyd work with me and offer me more if i was ready. once in oxnard they told me that it was all a lie that the person in burbank didnt notate the account and couldnt do anything for me. My husband and I had a very good experience purchasing a vehicle at Carmax Oxnard. We did a private sale of our previous vehicle and arranged our own financing prior to purchase, so I can't review those aspects of the Carmax experience. I would also highly recommend doing your homework regarding what vehicle(s) you're interested in purchasing. That said, we were given great help by Anthony and Brenda throughout the process. They were beyond helpful and informative. Ultimately, the "no-haggle" price we paid was $2,000-$4,000 LESS than KBB and Edmunds said we could expect to pay for that car, not having to haggle was nice, and our own mechanic gave the car a clean bill of health today, well within the 5-day period you have to walk away from the deal. I'm sure all the staff are wonderful, but I can highly recommend both Brenda and Anthony! read more

Couple of friends recommended CarMax as a good source for selling/buying a used car. I came in with very low expectation and left very pleased. This was a great place to sell my car because: (1) I had a very clean car, only 3 years old. (2) I dreaded the thought of selling via Craigslist. (3) I really dislike haggling with sales people. I felt that I got a fair price, not a great price. It was 1% below the KBB.com trade-in value for my car. I really like that this is the final "take it or leave it" price, no feeling as if there was room for negotiation. It is also nice that CarMax gave me 7 days to think about the offer. I believe I might have gotten 10% more money if I was willing to risk dealing with bozos responding to a listing. After thinking about it for a couple of days, I decided that the CarMax offer was the best choice for me. The selling process took about 30 minutes for the appraisal (1st visit) and 15 minutes to sign papers and receive a check (2nd visit). I also really liked the CarMax approach to "no haggle" price for purchasing a car. They offer a good deal for "extended" warranty. I learned that the founders of CarMax are the former Circuit City executives. So, the extended warranty business model makes a lot of sense. It is probably a big source of profit for the company. I believe the screening they do on the cars they sell and the extended warranty provide a peace of mind that justify their added premium. However, I have a really good mechanic (see my review for Integrity Automotive in Simi Valley), so I ended up purchasing a vehicle for about 30% less elsewhere. read more
