Extremely frustrated with the service department. Purchase BMW x4 September 21st and both keys that I received where damaged , services was coming up soon and car fluid levels where low. Was told that I would be reimbursed for the fluid and was guaranteed to brand new keys and also for the service to be taken care of I have all of this in writing. I have scheduled now THREE appointments because every time I take my car to the appointment for them to fix the issue they do nothing. My first appointment was September 10th they did not fix my keys or do the service on my vehicle, not reimburse me. I had to schedule another appointment for which was for today. Services advisor Norma is horrible at communication. I have sent her emails about my reimbursement have heard nothing. Today I dropped my car off at 9:30am for service with Norma for my keys to be fixed and service to be done. When I drop my car off she told me it would take an hour.. well it is now 4:30pm and no one reached out to me about my car. I called the service department 8 times and left voicemails before they closed and no one called me back. I had to call the business department and she found someone before they left to help me and they literally told me nothing was freaking done to my car and my only option is to schedule another appointment for them to do the service. So this will now make 3 service appointments for them to fix the issue. This is not a cheap vehicle I do not recommend purchasing a vehicle from this location. The service department is a nightmare and they genuinely do not know what they're doing. They have wasted my time on two separate occasions where I have shown up to my service appointment drop my vehicle off and nothing was done to it.... read more

I drove an hour from Fort Worth to Garland to test drive a car that I had reserved for me to test drive and have my car appraised. When I drove the car I was shocked at how dirty it was and they said it had been detailed. It was filthy right away. The screen showed this 2019 SLC 300 Mercedes Benz was in need of maintenance, the same dirt in the picture of the car at the bottom of the car was still on there when he drove it up for me to get in it so I'm pretty sure they lied about detailing it which makes me wonder have they lied also about all their checkpoint systems who knows if this car could be trusted to buy for the amount of money they were wanting the seat was torn. There were numerous things wrong with his car, so I didn't even drive it very far when I notice all these things I turned around, went back in gave him the key back and said no way this car is trash. He asked well if we clean it would you buy it? No because apparently you've lied already and said it was detailed not only that the tires look bad and then they want to give me a lowball price for my car which is in great shape and is 1000 times cleaner and nicer than this car I do not trust Carmax. Poor customer service. I came in to get a quote and was told it would be about 45 mins. I let them know I was in a hurry but still waited over an hour. When I asked what was taking so long the guy told me they had to put my car up on the lift to further inspect it. I would have appreciated being told that. I finally received my quote which was way below blue book value. When asked if I wanted to sell my car to them I told them no. He asked me if the quote was too low or too high. When arrived (granted 15 minutes prior to closing) my wife was not helped appropriately. Unfortunately, we live over 2 hours away and had already been to two other locations and this was to be my wife's anniversary gift (which was that day). I did not think this would be an issue as we had reserved the car online (indicating we were coming late) and in our prior CarMax experiences, we have been told if we could get there they would sell us a car. We don't buy from anyone else because typically because their experience is better, even though CarMax is almost always more expensive. When I did not believe her I went into the store myself. No one greeted me at all, even though I walked through a group of roughly 6 employees (all with their heads down). The manager just called and indicated he was sorry "you feel that way"; I wouldn't have posted this review until he said that. He wasn't sorry the experience happened, just that I felt that way about it. I made sure that is what he meant by saying these are just the facts of what happened, again; "sorry you feel that way". Full disclosure: I have bought numerous cars from other CarMax locations, they seem like a good employer/company so it is obvious this location has a top down management problem, in the MetroPlex you have other locations, if you wanna go to CarMax go to another location/have your car transferred from this one for free. Overall, good experience, until I took delivery. But let's back up. Started my search online, sales rep worked with me to have the vehicle transported up from Houston. All went well and ahead of schedule. On the day we inspected the van and had been told it had all been checked out, we arranged for financing and took the van home. The next morning, the van wouldn't start. Managed to jump it and take it back to have it checked out, missing half a day of work. Very inconvenient and should NOT have happened. All fixed up, a few weeks later now, still a bad taste left in my mouth due to the overlooking of something I'd think was obvious. Worse yet, not a single person apologized. However, I want to say that its totally refreshing and different to have a no haggle, no drama, no pressure sales environment when shopping for a car. We had been shopping at different types of dealers and CarMax was by far the most flexible and affordable. Representatives are car enthusiast and friendly. I was able to try about 8 different cars. I found the right car but not the right model. The representative was kind enough to ship my favorite edition from another city. The buying process was clear and detailed. They gave me a whole week to make sure it was the right fit. My car was semi-new and very well taken care of. I bought a car back in Dec 2021. Almost 4 months later I have still not received the title or the permanent plates to my car so now I am driving on expired Temp Tags. My conversations with the business office at CarMax Garland has been nothing short of horrible. Since Mid-February, they have been telling me they were having trouble locating the title but not to worry, the issued would be solved within 2-3 weeks. Beginning of March I was told by Carmax Garland, the title had been located and released by the the lien holder and I would be getting my plates within 2-3 weeks. However, when I called back the following week, I got an answer on how the title had NOT been released. I was also told by the business office, if I got pulled over and got ticketed, to sort it out with the police and bring the citation to CarMax Garland and they would reimburse me for it. Telling a customer its ok to get pulled over by the police and they will be reimbursed for the ticket is extremely inappropriate and unethical. I then escalated this issue to CarMax Corporate and I have been told they are "working" on it but have given me no real solution or update. At this point I now have a car with expired temp tags, no title, no permanent plates. I have reported them to BBB and TX DMV as they have sold me a car without having a title in possession which is illegal in the state of Texas. I will also be seeking legal representation if this issue continues much longer. read more

If you want great customer service and knowledgeable staff, keep driving... These guys wanted to appraise my paid off car while I looked at theirs but the guy became rude and upset when I did not want to leave my keys and let the carmax appraiser drive my car alone. Why is that a big deal unless they are dogging your car when alone? I told him that since they come along for my test drive it only seemed appropriate that I would want to ride in my own car while driven by their "appraiser". These guys are not car people, they think GM Accesory parts are "after market" non OEM items and said they could not sell my car but had to wholesale it and offered me an insulting laughable offer on it, just a complete waste of time. The wheels that I had on my car are GM parts that you can upgrade to at the dealer out of the GM option catalog. The Car that I came in to check out was even worse, it had a bad paint job done to the front end that was obvious upon closer look with black paint all over the edges of the headlights, fog lamps and silver chrome grill. Turns out it had been in an accident earlier this year according to the carfax. The guy did not know anything about the car except to read what was on the window and throughout the whole process would just repeat sales talk lines like a recording on repeat. Personally, I had a great experience. This is my first time financing a vehicle, and it wasn't by choice....I had an 04 F150 that suddenly decided to go belly up. We were already saving to replace my wife's minivan, and I didn't want to start over on that. So I tried CarMax, just to see what would happen. At the same time, I also applied for an auto loan thru my credit union. I visited CarMax on a Saturday, and Andy was great, and very patient with us as we navigated this process. We eventually settled on a vehicle that I could put 2k down on, and finance thru one of their lenders, and would fit our budget. We drove home happy that night in our new Jeep. The following Monday, my CU contacted me, and told me they could give me a heaven-sent loan, which would only be with a 3.9% rate, which was significantly lower than my original deal. Turns out CarMax has a 3 day window where you can change virtually any decision, including financing. So once we signed everything at the CU, we went to CarMax, and they basically killed the original finance deal and took the one I got thru my CU. This was a simple process, involved signing a little paperwork, and it was done. In the end we got a great vehicle at a great price, and the best thing was....no haggling over the cost of the vehicle. CarMax isn't "brand loyal" like conventional dealerships. They just want to sell great used cars at great prices. I still managed to keep some money saved towards my wife's next vehicle, which will most likely be purchased here. read more

Super friendly and non pressuring staff. We went here to sale our car. We are leaving the country and don't need it now. The staff don't bombard you when you get our of your vehicle here which is great. They do a First In First Out concept. They have no haggle pricing and do not pressure for sales. That is very nice and unique. Found out also, that Car Max was started by what use to be known as Circuit City. IMPRESSIVE. The salesmen here also all get the same commission on their sales. A year later found out the car had been wrecked and I way overpaid for the vehicle!!! I feel so cheated!!!! Go somewhere else to finance also. The way this company applies interest is the worst. Waited the 14 days I was told it would take to get it ready for me. Then saw the truck as available at another store. I bought my 2nd car from the Garland location. I was pleased with the service I got. The only thing that I didn't like was the time it took for the car I wanted, and put on hold, to get from the Plano location to the Garland location. In my view, it's not that far, and 5 calendar days to transfer one car from one location to another - that are that close together - is simply too long. He told us that we'd only need mail with our name and address. It required much more. We asked the morning of for the fax number so the insurance company could get the the truck set up. ..still waiting for that. They cannot even read their own paperwork. It allows for certain docs and yet they continue to sit here and tell me they won't work. The info is on THEIR letterhead. Just find another place to deal with. These people are stupid. read more

We purchased a 2011 Jeep Wrangler, December 2020. We had it xferred from a CarMax in Florida to the CarMax in Garland, TX; this was our first jeep purchase. We test drove it, and questioned how it was driving, and was told, "there is a big difference between driving a car and a jeep. So, the way it was driving was normal. OK. The day after purchase, we took it to a jeep specialist and had them look it over. We were told the front steering stabilizer needed to be replaced, coolant recovery tank needed to be replaced and flushed. Called CarMax with this information and they were able to get us in within 2 days. By the time we got the jeep in, the steering was so off, it was dangerous to drive. We drove it there very slowly and with hazard lights on. Why wasn't this found in their 125 point inspection? 3 - days to do this work. CD player/radio stopped working. They had to send radio out of town to get it "repaired" - 9 days before we got jeep back. Once returned, again, radio and CD would stop playing and a popping sound came from speakers. This time, they sent our vehicle to Jeep dealership and had them order "new system" and install - 13 days. At this point, CarMax has had our new vehicle longer than we did. Next item, we can't figure out where rear wiper switch is. The one in vehicle does not look like one in manual or YouTube. We took the jeep back to CarMax and told them, we think the "arm" has been changed because it does not look like a 2011's, per manual or YouTube. "Not possible, why would someone do that?", is what was said to me. After that person and two of his coworkers, one being a mechanic, tried to figure out how to turn rear wiper on, we were told, "the arm was switched", and they would have to order new one and it would take a month for the part to come in from Jeep. Why weren't these areas identified and taken care of during their 125 point inspection? All of the above, should have been taken care of before we purchased it. Whether Florida or Texas, their inspection should have caught these issues. Surely, wipers are a part of that inspection; someone had to see there was an issue with the wiper! We have purchased several vehicles from CarMax, and the last two, we have had the above type problems. Meaning, issues that should have been taken care of before purchase, were not. Now, we are having to go back and forth to get the work done! A total inconvenience for us. read more

I had been to this carmax location on Sunday to enquire for a mini van. The representative who greeted me at the door asked me for the purpose of the purchase and, how I intended to use the vehicle.When I mentioned it was for my catering business, he told me in that case carmax cannot finance the vehicle and I would have to get a loan approval from my bank. I was ok with it because i was already pre-approved.He took my number and name entered into the computer. And told me that I was fourth in line and some one would call me shortly. When I asked him what minivans they had available. He informed me that it was not his job to inform me about the vehicle availability or the documents needed in order to buy the vehicle. Nevertheless he escorted me to a computer station to check out the available vehicles. I waited till Tuesday evening for the call from the sales representative which i never received. So I decided to go try the toyota dealership on the other side of the freeway. And I walked out with a brand new mini van by the end of the day. I write this to THANK YOU .CARMAX for not calling me or else I would have been stuck with a Older model & used minivan for 60 months whereas now I'm stuck with a brand new one. Thank you so much. Ps. If it wasn't for having called 2 days in a row to a copy of loan agreement on car I would most definitely give them a 5 star. Insurance had to total my car and that's the last document I need for gap insurance to pay off the loan. Otherwise I always got good service when I took that car in, treated me great. NEED SOMEONE IN THE BUSINESS OFFICE TO GET THAT COPY TO ME ASAP!! I'll change it to 5 stars after I get it. Well here it is another week gone by. Have made a total of 5 calls. They tried to say the email address was no good but it was on file from buying the car and verified each time I called. The lady this time said she was going to mail it but it's been 5 days since I talked to her. I'm 12 miles from them and I haven't gotten it yet? It seems once you don't have their car anymore they're pretty much done with you. I don't feel I should have to drive over there and waste the gas when they have all the contact info. I'm a single woman who has gotten fleeced on my share of trendy vehicles from new car dealerships! That in mind, I have purchased my last 2 vehicles through CarMax. Once in Arlington and once in Garland - and several more in the past from Irving. I can hold the vehicle I want, then a nice salesperson calls me to schedule the test drive, then I go on the weekend and drive the car to confirm my choice, and I'm in and out of financing in an hour or so. Start to finish is generally 2-3 hours - no haggling, no games. I've loved my vehicles, yet always have the flexibility to change as my life requires. I won't buy a vehicle anywhere else! read more

I'd give this place negative stars if only I could. Was looking with the wife for a four door sedan and thought we'd drop in to check their selection. Upon arrival we were greeted promptly by a salesman who was pleasant and then things quickly went downhill. He initially proposed we get our vehicle appraised that it would be a quick and would be done by the time we finished looking at cars. We then proceeded out to the lot and the salesman spent 10 minutes trying to sell us a car we didn't want and that was already sold!!! He showed us a few other models but it quickly became apparent that he had no idea what he had on the lot and was thoroughly clueless as to the specifications of the vehicles. Since he realized that he had nothing that interested us on the lot he dropped us off at a computer and had us look ourselves for a car nearby - something I could have done from home!!! He then proceeded to disappear and left us at the computer for 20 minutes. Bored, we hunted him down in his office and waited for an appraisal of our car. We received the insulting appraisal - $1,500 less than low Kelly Blue Book and $2,500 less than at the dealer we ultimately traded it in at! When I told him that another dealer had offered to give me $2,500 more he simply told me in a very gruff and rude fashion "Well why don't you go sell it there." Sufficed to say I am not pleased with the level of service provided by CarMax and quite honestly left fuming at the rude and unprofessional service my wife and I received. I will NEVER go back to a CarMax. Summary of my review: Poor over priced selection, poor customer service and insulting trade-in offers. I have been looking hard for just the right used vehicle locally (Denver) with not much luck, when I found the vehicle I was looking for at the CarMax dealer in Garland Texas I decided that it might be worth the $250.00 transfer fee to get it to Denver to have a closer look. I had planned on having an independent inspection of any used vehicle before I purchase it so I proceeded to arrange for a mechanic from a local Garland Texas company (Vehicle Pre Buy Inspection Service) to come out and perform the inspection. While doing this I had to make an appointment with the dealer for the inspection to happen, unfortunately while talking to the sales manager (Edward) at CarMax in Garland I was advised that he would not allow any independent company to come on site and touch their vehicles without 1st purchasing the vehicle, If I purchased the vehicle and had it inspected I could then exercise my 5 day return if we found anything wrong otherwise there was no way I could get an independent inspection. This backs me into a corner and forces me to pay the $250.00 transfer fee to get it to Denver and if the vehicle looks good then pay for an independent inspection locally, then if something comes up during the inspection that makes me decide that I do not want to buy the vehicle I am out the $250.00 transfer fee. $250.00 is not huge considering the cost of the vehicle is $22,000 dollars but WTF, The local Denver CarMax dealer was more than happy to allow the vehicle to be independently inspected, it seems like CarMax should have a companywide policy regarding independent inspections but evidently this is not the case. Maybe Edward the sales manager saved me the $150.00 I was about to pay for an independent inspection knowing that something was likely wrong with the vehicle, and he has a better chance at selling locally without having to fix anything. I was a little uncomfortable doing business with CarMax anyway, their internet reviews indicate that they do not always backup their 30 day warranty. read more

This is my second experience buying from CarMax in Garland...the first experience was wonderful...hence my return. The second experience not so much, they brought my car in from Austin that I paid to have moved down here to LOOK at...when I agreed to purchase they said they would get the paperwork ready and have it cleaned up in a few days...it was delayed because someone forgot to send the title...well when I went to get the car it was still dirty and and by dirty I mean grease on the seatbelts that is still there and then when I took it to Lexus I found out they also had sold me a car with a safety recall!!! After they told me my car was a lease car with Lexus and all service work had been done at Lexus...wrong! it had not seen a dealership since the first complimentary visit when it was purchased! So when I wrote Car Max directly about it their manager at Garland called me and said he would send me two vouchers for 25.00 for service, after I explained I would take my car to Lexus and get a free loaner and its a mile from my new house and would not use them...he then said he would get the store in IRVING to come and get my car and detail it.....well guess who I have never heard from? Months later..I did recommend CarMax to a coworker who bought a truck from the IRVING location...so I guess my experience has not been bad enough to not recommend them for what their service is, but I don't see me purchasing another car from them because they have no follow up and the fact that the Car had a RECALL and at the time they sold me a certified car meant oh we forgot to check on recalls! Not really reputable it would not have cost them anything to get the recall fixed but they once again were too lazy to FOLLOW UP.... read more
