Worst car buying experience I have ever had. The customer service is beyond poor. Sold my car to carmax which took an entire day and finally left with a new car at 7pm. Big storm came in that night and my car leaked! There was water all over the floorboards. So that morning after owning the car for less than 16 hrs I took it back to carmax and traded it in for another new car. Which again took several hours. 5 days later the trunk of thee car won't open. Took it to carmax this morning and they said they were to busy to fit me into the service department but that they had an appointment Monday open! Monday! 5 days from now!? I said forget it. Went to Dallas Dodge and they are fixing my car for free. Never working with carmax again. If that's 'the way car buying should be' I'd hate to see what it shouldn't be. read more

Went to get my car appraised and then did some looking around. I like the no pressure/no haggle model of Carmax. While waiting for appraisal we did some research on the computer in the lobby and then found the cars we wanted to look at and test drive. Received my appraisal which seemed fair. Salesperson was attentive yet still left us alone. Didn't actually sell or buy so can't speak for that end, but from a lookie-loo perspective it was an ok experience. read more

Carmax has been working with me. We haven't resolved the the problem but it's getting closer. They towed my vehicle and appraised it for a trade in. As a single mother of four you know how any little bit can make or break a family. I finally see some sort of light at the end of the tunnel. I have to say, at first my overall experience with Carmax and my first vehicle was amazing. It was a 2007 Chevy Cavalier and it NEVER had a problem the entire 6 years I owned it. This second experience with Carmax initially left me in distress but since I've reached out they seem to be trying to help me out and make sure me and my kids have some sort of dependable transportation. read more

I was pretty excited and asked to see one of the fusions they had in the parking lot. The guy (Mark Johnston) asked if i was going to buy that fusion. This was the worst car buying experience ever. Please do not go see Tristan until he receives better training. I was not ready to make a on the spot decision so Tristan wrote my offers down on post-it note. I found a car with better mileage in the interim, he put in those numbers and I noticed right before paying the transfer fee that he did not include the right numbers (my negative equity). I found another comparable car and after running the numbers, the interest rate came back 5 points higher with a much higher payment. We spend an 1 1/2 trying to figure out why the numbers were so off. I suggested he run the car (with the quote on the posted note) and it turns out Tristan had been putting the numbers in wrong the whole time. Now I have no reference point for shopping and it wasted a week of my time. He put in over 5 cars, giving me offers that were totally incorrect due to his mistake. The manager Kurt apologized but could do no more than state, "this was great feedback regarding training of his employees". WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Going to a new dealer in the morning. read more

Please, Please, Please just sell your car to someone else, anyone else. You will make more money and be happier for it. Took in my vehicle, a 2012 Volvo XC90 and they claimed it had major damage to it (i.e. we will have to auction it off because we don't sell that caliber of car on our lot), but would offer me $2,500 for it. For the record the car does not have major damage to it. The Kelly Blue Book value on my car is between $10 -$12,000. A $2,500 offer is not an offer to buy my car, it is an offer to legally steal my car. To console me the sales man told me that even he didn't sell his car to carmax. Think about it. I waited over an hour to get an offer for my old car. The offer I received was literally a joke. I sold the car myself for $6000 more than what was offered to me by Carmax. Thought originally the warranty was going to be a good thing 250.00 deductible and they fix it. WRONG!!!!! I have had my car in several times and it is always a 250.00 deductible ++++++. It has never been less than 300+ to walk out the door. Today was the last straw. I took my vehicle in due to no start. Of course as you do when a car won't start, check the battery. The battery was perfect!! I had it towed in and the discovered it was a bad key. However, when I go to get it today after they had it over a week I have a charge of 72.00 extra for charging my battery. Again, charging a battery that was charged when I dropped it off. I can take my car to even a Walmart and they will charge my battery for free. I would have bought a brand new battery for 72.00 + instead of charging it! This is the reason I went to a Ford dealership and bought a car for 35k this week and not at Carmax. The warranty is shit and the Doctor bill after any repair is crap. I will avoid at all cost, hell I would even pay more for a car before I will ever go back there. read more

First of all Ken is a great customer service oriented and very friendly car salesman. I go in to look at a car 4 hours before I have to be at the hospital to have surgery because it was exactly what I was looking for and I didn't want it to disappear before I could get there. I didn't anticipate how long the buying and tradein process would take and by the end was in a panic as I had little time to get back. Ken went out of his way speed up the process and promised I would get out in time which he made happen. He even followed up the next day to see how my surgery went and how I liked the car. Started out online just looking at cars, I will be honest and say that my credit situation is not the greatest and figured there was no way I would ever qualify for a car. I found a car I liked and decided that I would do the online application figuring the worst that could happen was I would get denied and that would be that. About 2 hours later I got a call from Denise Rud asking a couple of question and said she would get back to me, she called and said I did not qualify for the original car I looked at but gave me some suggestions of cars I did. I went back online and found a better car than the first, It was newer, had fewer miles and was less expensive. It was also in Irving, Denise had it transfer for no charge to the Garland store and called me to come test drive it. It is perfect, we did the paperwork and she even got them to order me an extra key fob since mine on had one. It has been 3 weeks and it everything is still great with the car. I had a friend who is a master mechanic look it over and he said it is one of the cleanest and mechanical sound cars he has seen in a while. I have previously purchased a car from CarMax and had good results. Unfortunately due to recent hail storms I had to buy another. I checked several areas but decided on Car Max in Garland. It had the perfect truck I wanted and I didn't want to wait for it to transport to Plano. Daniel the salesman was very helpful and not pushy at all. When I test drove the truck there was no hassles. We had purchased a vehicle from the Garland Carmax before and were quite pleased with the transaction, but it had been several years ago and we were now wanting to sell a car. I was admittedly not expecting much, based on the negative ratings online, but was more than pleasantly surprised. We first took in our Ford Explorer to get an appraisal. We were told there would be a 30-45 minute wait. We were only waiting about 10 minutes before they called us into an office to get our information, then another 15-20 before they gave us their quote. The quote was hundreds more than we'd expected and they took care of everything for us. We most recently went in to sell my husband's Saturn SC2. This time we didn't even get to sit down before they took us into an office to get our information. It was maybe another 10-15 minutes before they gave us another unexpectedly high quote. Charles helped us with getting the vehicle appraised, and Ena helped us wrap up the paperwork. Every associate we've dealt with has been friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I've never had such fast or pleasant service at a car dealership and will continue going to the Garland Carmax for all my vehicle needs. read more

Why cant I rate less than 1?!?! The entire service department is a joke. It is impossible to get ANYONE one the phone and I found 3 different methods. No return calls. Nothing. It took a week to book an appointment. My 2012 I've had less than a year randomly died before i could get anyone on the phone and that took an hour of straight calling while stranded on the side of the road, in the cold with my two small kids. They lie in their "diaries" about calling and having conversations. I gave my work number to ensure I could be reached. It was never used and they said they didn't have it. My cell was called MAYBE twice in two weeks, I had to call about everything. None up there has their shit together. They make no sense and just talk in circles. I was told 6 times there would be no charge them was surprised at pick up with a 250$ deductible. Even though i made it painfully clear UPFRONT I had zero money and if it cost any thing I did not consent. I was told don't worry. If its covered under your extended warranty you won't pay a penny. Everyone I called with a complaint I got "ok..." and dead air until I got upset. Carmax had my car for a week before sending it to ford to be fixed. Costing me an extra WEEK of rental I had to pay out of pocket. I still feel should be reimbursed. I had to take out a frickin payday loan to pay to get my car out. Once I left, I didn't even get home before the check engine light came back on. Sent back to ford shops, this time no rental. Everytime i called and actually got a human, the one I want or need is always gone and no one else has answers. Don't even get me started on Ford. Next time I will be going to auto zone and doing the repair my damn self. I'm so mad I wanna trade my car in just to never have to deal with either ford or carmax again. Also every time I got upset I was told "I understand" don't do that. HUGE slap in the face. You have NO idea what i went through or my life. read more

We were sold a hyundai genesis from this dealership, and were told that it had a clean record. The car had issue with alignment. we took it back to carmax to get the issue fixed. They stated the issue was fixed but never seamed like it was. Now we are trying to sell the car and were told by an insurance company that the car was in a wreck with $8000 damages. the car was sold to us at the current market value. we tried to contact dealership to see if they would try to do right by us, they basically said we were SOL. I had the worst experience this past weekend. I Had already been approved for the car I wanted before I even got to the dealership. I even got an email of what documents I needed and I took everything I needed to make this an easy process. I had an appointment scheduled in Tyler at and I live about 1 1/2 hrs from there. We get there and my appointment don't exist and the car I wanted was not there but in Garland. We head to Garland and the guy that helped us didn't even know how to type. I kept telling him that I had been preapproved already and he RE ENTERED my info again and ran my credit AGAIN. The down I was told I qualified for was not the same. They wanted $3,000 more than what they told me originally. Well then they kept asking me about my recent pay check stub whish I had already handed to them. I could not make them understand that I get paid bi weekly and they had my stubs in their hands looking at it and still questioned me! Then to top it all off it got worse as they got to my husbands pay. Keep in mind that we brought them proof of income for me and him. Well I think they didn't believe that my husband was making what he is making cause they kept say ing they needed proof of what was going in our account. We showed them and pointed out ON THE DOCUMENTS they already had in their hands but NOOOO They still didn't get it and still kept asking for proof! Well then they wanted me to print out a document and so they took me to a computer to log into my email and print it out. Well the first computer....didn't print, The 2nd computer didn't print, the freaking 3rd computer didn't print EITHER!!!!! I was so mad and aggravated because no matter what we were telling them they didn't get it. I finally threw my hands up the air and said FORGET IT!!!! My husband tried to explain to them and they STILL didn't understand when all the proof was in front of their faces!!! I walked out of there so mad I cried! I wasted a whole day riding around and dealing with not very smart people and I was done. I will never recommend this place to anybody and I will never waste my time with them either. read more

I bought a Toyota corllia love it but buying it was the most terrible hassle. I wanted to buy it from a person who my friend bought her's from he was sick. So here we go with another guy and when I wanted to finance it though my bank even the loan officer said he had never seen such a screwed up mess as this outfit. It took me three days longer and almost didn't get the car if it had not been for the loan officer. Finally the person I wanted was back on Sat the day I had to have the rent car back after talking to the mananger of car max. They advertise that they inspect hundreds of points on a car, including computer analysis before they purchase them for resale and reject the ones that don't pass muster. Not true ... we bought a car from them with a transmission defect. We took the car to a manufacturer dealership who pinpointed the problem by computer analysis. I'm pretty certain Carmax pinpointed the problem by computer analysis also but since the car "looked" great they figured they could sell it and make their profit regardless of the problems it would cause the buyer. read more

Went to sell my car. Have now gone back four times due to things "I'm not bringing". Funny how I wasn't told of these things until right when my appraisal was about to expire. Or awesome that I'm told about these one at a time. Went to the plano carmax (EXCELLENT) and they tried to help but the Garland Carmax had already cancelled my appraisal 4 hours before it was due to expire....neat. This meant I had to get another one. That added another 30 minutes. Oh but they also deleted all my information so I could not sell the car because my bank payoff had been deleted and the bank was now closed. Harassed the bank for a new payoff to get to carmax for the 4th time and oh no we need a 15 day payoff not a 10 day - read the teeny tiny print on the back. And I love how they say - oh you could have called this morning and we could have called the bank and set that up for you. AT WHAT POINT IN TIME WHAT I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT??? MAGIC? Thats a nice deal but who knows that you would actually do something extra when in fact you have not done so to date. So tomorrow we will be heading back for the 5th time and i'm SURE they will come up with something else we need. Thanks for adding more miles to my car and gas money just to nickel and dime me out of 5 more days on interest. How about you be more friendly and proactive like your PLANO counterpart. read more

me and my wife went to carmax few days ago,we had bought an infiniti g25....we drove the vehicle over the weekend and noticed that it was a little too small for us(2kids)...so we knew that we had 5 days to take it back or get our money back.... i called my salesman christian dantes and told him that me and my wife were not happy with the car because it was too small.....he told us that we had 5 days to returned vehicle and he can help us to find another one that will have alot more room....his cousin jesse lopez who was helping him the first time called me, right away he offered me a 2014 chrysler 300,we had a dodge charger before so we knew those cars were pretty big inside....i went online and looked at that vehicle but instead i liked a 2013 chrysler 300s that was fully loaded... i then called jesse about that car, went to go look at it the next day,my wife felt in love with now is sitting in my driveway......this 2 guys (christian dantes-jesse lopez)were great,they were friendly and helpful the whole time,no pressure at all.....go check them out at the garland location...you will be satisfied!!!thanks to all the carmax team, my wife loves the car!!! read more
