Terrible carmax location! Irvine was a way better location and I made a complete mistake coming here!

Made an appointment to get an estimate ion selling my car. When I arrived I was told the wait was an hour. Arnold, the managers response, is they are like a doctors office and can't predict the patients / customers coming in. Went back 2 hours later and told that the wait was 1 1/2 hours and that if I didn't want to wait I should make an appointment. Evidently they are the biggest CarMax in the country (according to the manager) so customers should understand having an appointment and needing to wait a long time read more

Last night I found the car that I was looking for online and submitted an info request. This morning I received a call from AJ the sales associate at the Burbank location where the car was located. I asked AJ to run my credit and if all of the terms were good to go, to streamline the process. Everything was good to go except for the appraisal of my trade in since I obviously needed to be there in person. AJ made sure to tell me that my appraisal could come back higher or lower than the original appraisal price. I drove from Orange County to Burbank and was in and out of the dealership in under 45 minutes. My appraisal came back $1000 over kbb.com. AJ and Bob were extremely helpful and I will recommend this place anytime I get the opportunity. read more

I recently had a problem with an AC compressor on a car I bought at the Roseville location. I took it into Carmax in Burbank and found out that the part was recently out of warranty, but since the problem had recurred, the staff at Burbank Carmax worked hard to get me back on the road at a very fair price. They went the extra mile to help me at a time when I could not afford a costly repair. Thanks guys! Do you live in LA? Get your next Car from Carmax Burbank! read more

Tonight was my first time coming to CarMax and I couldn't be any happier. Brandon in sales helped me through the process of selling my car and he made it so easy! I was in and out of there in less than 1 hour with my loan paid off and a check in my pocket. Thank you Brandon! read more

This is a review for Carmax Burbank. Sales associate Hrach Ibranosian was great! He kept me informed during the entire process of transferring in a vehicle from out-of-state. I did buy this vehicle. There was a small problem, and Hrach as well as Fernando from the service department were excellent in getting the problem resolved. A used car can and will have issues, but they were very professional in dealing with this. The car is great, no problems now. I wish to thank both of them. Very good experience. They stand behind what they sell, that is what is important. read more

It started well, with a good offer for a car we were selling as part of liquidating my sister in law's estate. It went to hell when we went to the business office to close the deal. First they sent us home for a death certificate, and then, after making the round trip, and after about an hour they got around to telling us that they don't buy cars in probate. I think it's a dumb rule for a car the DMV has registered to the estate, but it WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF THEY HAD MENTIONED IT BEFORE WE WASTED A WHOLE AFTERNOON. The salesman knew what we were doing and the clerk who sent us back for the death certificate knew what we were doing. Either one could have saved us hours of time if they had just mentioned that little drop-dead detail (I took a day off work to do this). Not happy. read more

Horrible experience. Waited 1.5 hours just to be seen. Then 45 minutes to have them evaluate my car. I accept the offer. Then I'm told another 1.5 hours before they can get to my paperwork. It turned out to be 2 more hours. Over 4 hours to get this transaction done. Unreal. read more

I was actually surprised that customer service reached out, but they were still unable to help me. CarMax lies to me and sells me a car that's been in an accident, and they still cannot accommodate a loyal customer? The way this company is run is disgusting. I will never be doing business here again and I will spread the word so that no one I know will ever do business here. Hopefully if you are reading this, you will not do business here either and take your money somewhere better! Do not waste your time and money! read more

This is one of the most unprofessional places to come to. They don't honor there warranties and most of all you have ignorant people who work behind counter in the service department and they are not mechanics but yet act as if they are. If you are looking to sell, I highly recommend going to CarMax. I have been dogged by the dealership I usually take my car to for repairs like crazy about selling my car there, and when I finally was ready to sell, they offered me an insanely low price, easily $1000 less than what it was worth. (This was after months of saying they'd give me a competitive price if I took it to them). So I took it to CarMax instead and they gave me the price my car is actually worth according to all my research. I'm so glad I went there. Everyone was friendly and the whole process was painless and easy. I highly recommend selling here! read more

I seriously regret buying from carmax .. they sold me a car that can't pass the smog inspection and I spend over 700 dollars in repair fees alone and I spoke to one of there customer service people who went by the name of cristy she told me basically she didn't have the time to let me explain to her my situation and she was quite too busy to hear me out regarding the car I purched 1 and 8 months ago that according to her passed the smog check with flying colors funny thing the technicians I took the car to told me the problem was there way before I even got the car it's really schetchy to say the least won't be buying from them again read more

This review is based on the appraisal and selling process only. I had a good experience selling 2 cars at CarMax this weekend. They gave a very fair market value for both cars, close to the KBB based on the higher end of the trade-in value. I highly recommend making an appointment for the car appraisal. They seated me within 5 minutes of my appointment time. The process took a total of 30 minutes and they print out a copy of the appraisal offer, which is good for 7 days. If you plan to go in on a weekend, you must arrive at their opening time otherwise there is a very long wait. Overall, very helpful representatives and pretty organized and hassle-free process. *Note, if you have multiple title holders for you car, all parties must be present to make the transaction.* read more

What an easy transaction selling my car. Everyone was extremely nice and I was surprised by the quality of cars they sell. I did not but a car from them. But I'm the future I will consider buying a car there, because of the extremely pleasant experience I had today. read more

I bought a car from the Burbank Car Max yesterday evening and I had the best experience possible. I started by browsing their website and out of curiosity I used the email contact to have a few questions answered. within 30 minutes Candice M. responded to my email with the answer to my questions and a phone number I could reach her at. She was absolutely the best sales person I have ever dealt with. She had an actual conversation with me and got to know me before even starting my credit application. Once we found out I was approved I set a time to come in and met with her. As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted and within minutes Candice had everything ready to go and we were out on my test drive. I left the lot with my new used car within 2 hours of getting there. Everyone I worked with there was aboslutely amazing and I couldnt be happier. read more

I needed to sell my car quickly and someone recommended I take it to Carmax to see how much they would buy it for. A bit hesitant on what I was about to embark upon, it turned out that the entire experience was fantastic! Kourosh was the rep who assisted me throughout the transaction. He was friendly, attentive and focused on my objective to simply sell the vehicle. The entire transaction took less than an hour. They gave me a reasonable price for the car and off I was with check in hand. Kudos to Ivan as well who saw the final paperwork through. read more

SIMPLE...went in, saw a car i liked, input my info on the computer, getting a finance quote, sign papers, Drive away...All that took 40 minutes! i am very happy with the service and the fact that they don't push you into anything. i dropped 1 star because...i don't know why but something was missing that i cant point my finger on maybe i'm just used to 'Regular dealers' that gives you a full show when you buy a car. Last year, I walked in a bought a 7 year old car I'd picked out on the website. Easy transaction, straight forward, pretty much what I expected. But 10 months and 5,000 miles later, the transmission quit. (An issue with this type of car, turns out.) I had no warranty, but took it to Carmax anyway just to see what they had to say. Amazingly, Carmax had agreed to pay for half of a new transmission and repaired a coolant issue for free. The service consultant, Linette, called me each day to let me know how the car was doing, (even calling on a holiday) and ETA of the finished repair. Exemplary customer service. They were just so nice. I never expected nice. Well done, Carmax! read more

Kelley Blue Book is funded and supported by car manufacturers therefore the values are ALWAYS inflated. If you are selling your car to Carmax do your research on pricing on Edmunds instead. I've sold 5 cars to Carmax already and I've been careful about doing my research before selling. Sure you can get a little more money if you sell it private party but if you don't want to deal with the hassle Carmax is the way to go. read more

Had to make three trips to CarMax in order to finally be told information that should have been provided first hand. Communication would be great so that customers do not waste their time and money. They didn't bother to provide valuable information first hand and this shows me the type of consideration they had, they didn't care to waste my time and for this I write this negative review. read more

I just purchased my first vehicle from a dealership here and had a totally wonderful experience. I worked with Cengiz, whom I would totally and completely recommend to any level of car buyer. He worked with me from the moment I walked in to understand my budgetary, spacial, and economic needs (I am a recent college grad who plays bass and drives for Uber = tight budget, carries gear, and drives A LOT). Cengiz is a car collector himself and had no problem answering all of my questions. They even worked with me when I needed a couple of extra days to allow some checks to clear in order to make my down payment. I traded in my 2006 Crysler PT Cruiser and received $1000 credit. Cengiz worked it out so that I could put the trade in value down on the first day and return within 5 days to finish the down payment once the rest of the funds were available. I am now working with him on helping my wife find a new vehicle. So far, I am incredibly happy with my vehicle. It is a 2012 Mazda 2 with 44k miles, new tires, clean interior, and manual transmission. I highly recommend Cengiz and I highly recommend this branch. read more

Carmax in Temecula gave me 3 different quotes on same car? Are they confused or just liars.

I'm not going to judge the Car buying experience, I am going to judge the business as a whole. My now ex husband has worked at Car Max for over ten years. Car Max is definitely not a family business. Family is rarely ever included in work gatherings. We lived in a modest 3 bedroom home with four kids, and we still couldn't afford our home. Our insurance would not cover counseling, but the work does provide advice on divorce. Not a fan of Car Max. They did not provide properly for my family. read more

Carmax sold me a 2015 Cadillac with broken struts I made them aware that the luxury vehicle they sold me was riding weird and any bump I hit felt like a brick wall....after the 3rd time taking it in carmax sent me to a cheverlot dealership where they diagnosed the car properly but I was forced to pay 160$ for the diagnosis then carmax took over a week to fix my car and gave me a loaner that didn't fit my needs and I had to rent a bigger car for my career travel! When I asked for reimbursement carmax became really petty and would not give me back my money....please note the only reason I needed to rent a car is because they sold me a BROKEN CAR! read more

I didn't anticipate having a good experience at Carmax, let alone a great one. I had been looking for a high-end SUV for four months. My husband and I searched the dealerships extensively and made too many trips to see cars, only to find subpar vehicles and endless haggling. When my husband stumbled across the exact car I wanted at Carmax, I was leery. After a call to the Irvine store (where the car was located), I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were willing to transfer the car to the closer, Burbank dealer. We received a phone call the next day that the car was on the Burbank lot and ready for us to inspect - less than 24 hours after our initial phone call. When we arrived at Carmaz we were met by our salesperson, Juno. He was so low-pressure, letting us take our time looking at the vehicle while he had our trade-in inspected. The car was detailed beautifully and was exactly as we expected based on our telephone conversations with both Carmax locations. We test drove the car and by the time we were back at the dealer, Juno had a trade-in price for our car. There was no need to negotiate (their policy is "no-negotiating). They offered the same price for my trade-in that the Mercedes dealership (where we purchased the car originally) had offered. Amazing! Juno answered all of our questions...and then some. He was so patient!! We were able to purchase an extended warranty that allows us to go to a dealer or Carmax for repairs. Although we ended up finishing up the process after hours, Juno stayed until we were in our new car and ready to drive home. He has been great at following up with answers to questions we have had after our purchase. After so many bad car buying experiences and an exhaustive search for the car I wanted, I am thrilled to have found Carmax -and so happy to have worked with such a great salesperson. I have recommended Carmax to my friends and will continue to do so! Carmax has my business!! read more

Since we are now having a baby in December, we decided that we needed to buy a car. Our first stop was at Carmax in Burbank on September 30th. We had just walk in and were looking at cars while waiting for a sales consultant when Kourosh Ghaibi saw us. He told us that he would come and help us to look at some used cars. At this point, we had no idea of the kind or make of the car that we wanted. We sat down inside (it was too hot to be walking around in their huge parking lot) and looked at all the options we had. We then walked out to a few cars (Nissan Versa Hatchback, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic). We even test drove 2 of the cars. Kourosh was patient, friendly and helpful - he gave us some time to discuss our options, look at other car available in other Carmax locations and even gave us some financing number to give us a better picture at the deal we were looking at. Money was not an issue but the financing would help us improve our credit in the US. (coming from Canada, we have to rebuild our credit history here in the US) He was never pushing us in making a decision and provided us with great information all along. He even order a car for transfer and gave us a call on his day off. This is great customer service. Even if we didn't buy our car there in the end (year and model not available at that time), we have received an excellent service from Kourosh Ghaibi. read more

As quick & painless as they make the car appraisal process (less than 30 mins). I ended up having to sit on my thumb for more than that amount of time. It would have been understandable if I was just a "walk in" but I confirmed my appointment a couple hours beforehand. I ended up just bailing as I could not wait any longer for the sales consultant to grace me with her presence & give me a lowball offer. Thanks for wasting my time & petrol. Super!!! read more

I can't do 3.5 stars, which is what I'd like to rate my experience here as. This review also has to do with selling a car to CarMax, not buying. I came here at the behest of a few friends who've sold vehicles to CarMax Burbank before. I have absolutely no experience with CarMax (I've never sold a car or them, bought, or even attempted to look at their lots for potential car purchases before), so didn't really know what to expect. This location is actually in a great location and there is tons of parking. I had an appointment, but, as some others have pointed out, that really doesn't mean much; I guess appointments usually have a representative who works with you, however, none was assigned to me and a man explaining it to me told me he'd help me. Now to the experience, beyond the great location. The car in question is a Ford Mustang (now 10 years old, but still looks amazing, leather interior (it's a GT), clean title/no accidents, with everything in good working condition; a mechanic recently gave it a 91/100 when I had a thorough check-up done during a new battery installation). As some other Yelpers have pointed out, I believe the figure that came back was insanely low ball: mine sat at $1,150, which is, of course, extremely lower than I expected...and I went in not expecting much. Again, I didn't think I'd get $5,000 for a 10 year old vehicle, but I did expect at the very least $2,000 or so. A clean Mustang with mods that only give it a meaner, more aggressive stance with a 91/100 bill of health surely is worth $4,000 to private buyers, so I was expecting at least something more than, well, $1,150, especially considering how diehard the Mustang community is. $1,150 is a sad, sad offer; maybe if I was selling a Kia Rio or Dodge Caravan that was 10 years old that's completely fair, but an incredibly clean Mustang? Please. Needless to say, I didn't end up selling my pony to CarMax. Had I been able to haggle (which, all things considered, is funny to consider when I bought my last car in April from a place that I didn't need to haggle because I HATE haggling), I believe I would've sold her. But - for me, at least - the offer was lower than I'd let a perfectly good car (let alone one with a hugely loyal fan base) go for. Let me say it again: $1,150 for a 10 year old Mustang GT given a 91/100 by an independent car mechanic. Now that I think of it, I also am a bit curious if the car was actually even looked at. I remember looking up at the TV screen showing the wait time and I had 4 people ahead of me before my appraisal/inspection, but within a minute of looking up I was told my car had been appraised and then was given the offer by my CarMax rep. Apparently they took it for a quick drive around the block as part of said appraisal, but it was literally in the exact spot I left it parked in the garage and looked to not have even been driven. I'm not sure if this is true or not (again, I wasn't there to test drive with the appraiser; I was inside the main building), and I could be wrong, but the quickness of being 4 people behind waiting, then appraised, then given the buy offer (in a minute, if that) was a bit, well, suspicious. That being said, as I said, the location is great. I had no issues with the representatives there and despite having to wait a little longer than anticipated I didn't mind. I was even offered a hot beverage, which was very much needed considering I hadn't had caffeine yet. But $1,150 for the vehicle in question is lower than low ball, something others have experienced. PS-I ended up selling my Mustang privately for triple the amount offered by CarMax. read more

I may never go to a dealer again. Carmax is awesome. It's so easy and I love not having to deal with the dealer BS.

Well, I have to say I am happy with my overall purchase. I really like the truck. But the experience was not that great. I found a 2016 Ram on their site. It was in Idaho or some place like that. It cost about $150 to have it transferred. I had not seen a truck with all the features I wanted with low enough miles closer to LA. So I paid it. They said it could take up to 21 days for the truck to arrive. They have no tracking system. I checked in periodically and they could not tell me where the truck was. I find that odd given all the technology we have today with GPS and all. Come on CarMax come into this century! At about 9 PM on the 21st day I got a text telling me the truck had arrived. The sales guy then told me "off the record" that I should be entitled to my $150 back. But I would have to ask the sales manager and I did not hear it from him. So I came out the next day to inspect and test drive the truck with full intention of buying it. I drove and inspected it and I noticed that the tires were very bald and I wanted them to replacement them. They brought out another employee with a gauge to measure the tread and she told me they were well with in their standard and far better than the California standard. I felt that was BS. But I wanted the truck as I said before there were not any with everything I wanted anywhere else. So, I ended up buying the truck anyway and regardless of what the the gauge says or the what standards are the tires ARE F'ING BALD!!! We have had an unusual amount of rain here in LA. I have slipped and lost traction all over the place. Even when I start off super slow with hardly any gas pressed at all. It is a death trap!!! THEY SOLD ME AN UNSAFE CAR! They should have replaced my tires free of charge. Now for the $150. When I asked the sales manger she gave me an hard NO. In fact I felt she was rather rude about it. Gave me this high and mighty attitude. She said the 21 days was just an estimate and they were within their rights to keep my money. I left pretty frustrated with full intentions of calling the corporate office to complain. I even said as much to the manager and she said "go right ahead call them". Then the next day she called me and said she thought it over and that they would refund my money. I was happy with that. I am sure some one must have told her to refund me as she was pretty emphatic about it. I am still pretty pissed about the tires I have felt unsafe every time I get in the truck. read more

Chase did a very good job at helping me purchase my first car. He was friendly, informative and very fast.

Went to CarMax Daly City today to sell my car. They told me to wait in my car after I filled up some papers. The lady who inspected my car was nice but after waiting for more than an hour outside, I had to go inside to see what's going on. A woman named Alice in the Business Office told me she called me 2x. I told her I normally don't answer calls if I don't recognize the number. She said she was with my lender for an hour on the phone. I told her, why didn't she just asked somebody to get me and it will take ONLY 2mins and I would have come in right away because they were the ones who told me to wait outside in the first place. NO apologies at all! Really BAD customer service. CarMax is a good company but your employees who is suppose to represent you, should be trained better. Customer Service is next to nothing. Too bad because I was thinking of buying a used car from you guys after I sell mine. read more

Not happy. I have always thought about Carmax as an easy somewhat fast way to buy a car until now. It used to be like that, but not anymore. We went in weds with a down payment, and approval for financing looking for a car. We ended up finding one that we loved, but it was filthy dirty, and extremely dinged up so we looked at inventory to see if they had the same make and model at another nearby location which we found 45 miles away. We told the sales guy we could just drive over there, and he insisted we wait since it would take one to two days to arrive. Well Friday was the day so I contacted him in the morning asking if the car was there. He responded and told me he was on his way to work so he would let me know as soon as he got there. I waited, and 4 hours later ended up calling them directly, and was told the car would not be transferred until Sunday 2 days away. The guy I talked to said transfer take 4 days not 2. So obviously the sales guy was blowing smoke up my a$$ just so we wouldn't go to another store to make the purchase. I texted him again letting him know I canceled the transfer, and we were driving out to Costa Mesa, and never got a response. Extremely RUDE, INCONSIDERATE, and BAD customer service all around! We drove up to Costa Mesa today, and bought the car I wanted. Good job Burbank losing a sale, and returning customer. I won't be returning, and for sure won't be referring anyone to your store! read more

I can only write about my experience but after two years of paying on my vehicle I realized several things. Yes, it is very easy to purchase a car from CarMax. It is easy to purchase an extended warranty, and they take back a car in five days. The only problem - the products are not all they are cracked up to be. The price is high, I had to put a new Xenon lamp ($300), plus new tires, and brakes after four months. I took the car to the CarMax shop to complete this work, and was given a $1000 quote - after only owning the car for four months. I recently had a hybrid system water pump failure at the top of Coldwater Canyon where the car automatically shuts down to avoid further damage -- so I had to stand on my non-power brakes to make it to the bottom - the pump fried - fuse fried - all four brakes scorched. At the purchase CarMax provided me with the incorrect warranty company so I spent days without a car trying to find out why the warranty company listed would not return my calls. Finally figured it out, called the correct extended warranty company - but after I had the repairs started as I needed my car. The warranty company would only use some manual that averages parts and labor hours from around the country - so I am receiving a whopping $30 refund for my $1300 repair bill. DO NOT PURCHASE their extended warranty. It is not worth it in any way - labor and parts are way higher in LA than most other places, so after the deductible and low wage and parts rates are applied you will receive nothing, but you will pay $2000 for the extended warranty. Before going to CarMax I would really shop around and really price cars - and bring the vehicle to a mechanic and not only ask him to check the car systems, but look at the life left on brakes, tires, etc. I will NEVER EVER purchase a vehicle from them again. read more

The service staff on the floor is nice and welcoming but the business center staff is rude and completely inexperienced. I had three different people tell me three different answers on what paperwork was needed for them to purchase my vehicle. They kept going back to speak to their supervisor whenever I asked another question, but the supervisor never once came over themselves to see what the confusion was about. I had all the necessary paperwork they told me to get the first time. Gathered everything they said they needed from the first visit and when I returned the 2nd time a new person said I was missing other items that were never mentioned during my first visit.
