I bought a used van one year ago and have had nothing but mechanical problems with the van. I also bought the extended warranty through Assurant Vehicle Warranty. Carmax has been too busy, appointments are 2-3 months out for a repair through the warranty. The only repair shop that accepted Assurant was 1 1/2 hours away from me. I had to file a formal complaint against the repair shop with Assurant the mechanic did such a horrible job with a simple repair. I have had to use outside mechanics to fix the repairs. However, Assurant finds every loop hole possible to deny a claim. I don't believe Carmax did their 125 point inspection on the van I bought. Had they done the inspection, the short in my van would have been discovered. Instead, I have had five breakdowns requiring immediate towing. Carmax service department has not even returned the last few calls I made trying to get an appointment for repair under the warranty. I find the majority of mechanics do not wish to deal with Assurant Warranty as it is too time consuming and the representatives have been rude and not well trained and are quick to deny coverage. I bought a car in Los Angeles from Carmax and had a great experience. However, this Carmax in Augusta, GA, does not even come close to the same standards. read more

42 minutes ago New Only giving 1 star b/c I have to. I got an online offer for $8000 & took my 2015 GMC Terrain to the dealership. The vehicle is in good condition, but it has 2 lights on on the dash, ABS & Traction. When they took the car to appraise the ladies & gentlemen were all super nice & friendly except for a couple, but there's always employees like that. They came back with an offer of $6200 because of the lights on dash & the mileage, it was 160k. I asked specifically if I was getting $6200, and she said yes. I told her that wasn't so bad & I was satisfied. So, they did the paperwork and when I finished up the check was for $1800. I was livid. They scammed me. I got 2 employees to get the employee who told me $6200. She did & this employee flat out lied & said that she did not tell me what I know she did; I have the convo recorded. I looked up a guesstimate of the cost to repair & guess what? $1800 on the higher side! They offered $8k & think that's fair?! They initially acted as if I was not getting my vehicle back. We stood our ground & they came back with my vehicle & a form that states they did not buy my vehicle & no fraud intended. Jokes?? They were in a huge rush to do the paperwork b/c they already had a buyer! How do they think ANYONE would be ok with $1800??? This place is a joke. They thought they could let it fly by me. I have had enough, Carmax... 3-4 previous purchases and have shipped a couple vehicles to my location. This feature is great and I love it (when it works). The latest and greatest attempt to purchase a vehicle through Carmax has turned into nothing less than a joke. I have requested multiple vehicles shipped and they have failed to ship any them. I have called and let them know my dissatisfaction with the services I was receiving- promised they would fix the issue. This evening, I called to speak with a manager concerning my issues. They received my message and asked me to hold. They promptly hung up on me instead of letting me speak with someone. What the hell type of business or customer service program do y'all operate on? I'm trying to spend 30k with your store... you have me on the hook... you just have to process my request. Lol It is like pulling teeth. This said, you've officially lost the sale on your 4K over KBB purchase. "2nd largest vehicle auction owner in the US" has to much going on to remember the basics. THE CUSTOMER. Several months ago I bought a Lexus for my wife. At the time we were told the car had a small scrape on the left front fender which had been repaired. I looked at it and couldn't see any defect. Later, my wife went to a carwash. The wash peeled off some paint from the left front. I took the car back and delt with a young man named Daniel. I half expected to have to argue. I was wrong. He immediately took responsibility and fully owned the problem. His manager had to inspect and approve the repair. On his inspection, he noticed a slight mar on the hood that I had missed. Without me asking, they approved sending the car to a body shop to totally strip down the fender and hood and repaint both. We were given a rental car, at their expense. Most reviews never refer to how a business handles an honest mistake or error, unless it is to chastise the business. However, if our words of criticism are to be taken seriously, then our words of praise for customer service must be spoken as well. Over the past 20+ years I have purchased many vehicles from CarMax. This was the first time I had to take a problem to them. The way Daniel handled this issue has reinforced my confidence in CarMax. read more

Bought a 2022 Nissan Sentra here recently, and traded in my 2017 Nissan Altima. They paid me less money for my trade in than other dealers offered, but they had better options of cars in stock. If you can request who you work with I recommend working with Nick, he's a great honest guy who'll help you out. The express car pickup I had arranged took longer than expected and wasn't as "express" as you'd think. I had a car transferred to this store for a test drive and purchase. I have never bought a car from any kind of dealership, so this experience was all new to me. At the time of transfer, I lived over 2k miles away and was 5 hours behind this timezone. They always made sure to call me after 7a HST and were always so helpful. I was informed of where the car was in all stages of transfer and had an appointment in no time. The salesman that was assisting me was amazing. I do not remember his name- only that he loves cars, has a ford fusion and wears a tan fishing hat when he goes outside. He explained everything to me, helped workout any kinks that we had and helped streamline the process. When driving my vehicle, I realized that it was making a loud humming sound in the rear when driving over 40 mph. Because I still have the 90 day/4k mile warranty, I was able to set up an appointment with no issue and no cost to me. Such a great place with great prices. read more

I decided to sell my Prius as I can no longer drive due to medical reasons. I was really avoiding and dreading this as I hate car salesmen. They were following the COVID protocols. We were greeted immediatly upon arrival and taken to the buy car desk. The guy was super friendly as was the gentleman conducting the test drive. Most of the paperwork was done on a computer. Really fast. The appraisal took 15 minutes and the test drive took 15 minutes. The total time was 50 minute. What a surprise. I received the full value that several on line appraisers suggested.. I'll start by saying this: I'm pretty shy and I don't like conflict, so I am not good with pushy salespeople. I was really nervous going into Carmax since it was my first time buying a car. (We just needed a car to get from point A to point B since having only one vehicle no longer worked for us.) Obviously the trope of the dishonest, pushy car salesman is ubiquitous and I was expecting that. I needn't have feared! We sat down with Ken and Octavia (who was in training) and the process was really great and easy. They didn't try to upsell anything or convince us to do more than we needed. They didn't have a problem with us taking a day or so to sleep on our decision. And when we told them we weren't interested in the extra protection plan (which is a thing Carmax really seems to want their salespeople to push) they didn't try to change our minds. Our car is pretty awesome too. I have no problems with it so far and we got it for a great price. Overall I would recommend Carmax, although there are a couple reservations--all on the corporate level, not the location: 1. They really want you to get that protection plan. It's pretty expensive and you may not need it, so don't just blindly get it, do your research. 2. Their financing is... well, our bank was able to finance at less than half of Carmax's APR soooo do your legwork on that, too. Overall, four stars, and if we needed another used car we'd look at Carmax again! read more

Bought car on May 14 th they attempted three times to get new key fobs made in the process messed up computer in car and immobilized car got stuck out of town two weeks after owning and told by carmax to tow it to them , then told not sure how to fix so tow to dealer. I took my 2014 BMW 528i to CarMax Augusta, GA for an appraisal and was very disappointed with their offer. This is a 56k mileage, two owner no accident listed vehicle. They had a similar model in stock with 76k miles on it and were selling it for $22,000. I was offered $16,000. That's a $6k difference! I understand that CarMax offers more for your vehicle in certain markets where the demand is higher. Augusta's car market is more domestic cars. I noticed a pen mark on my vehicle's steering column too when I got it back and the radio was set to some jazz station I guess while they test drove the car. Not a positive experience! The reason given for the low offer was given as they had trouble selling the one on their lot with 76k...duh! One could do a lot better by not taking a car like mine to CarMax Augusta. Had a Mazda 3 transferred to the Augusta Carmax from Nashville for a $199 fee. When the car arrived at the Augusta store, I had an appointment a few days later to look at the car and do the transaction. When I arrived for my appointment the car was dirty on the exterior and worse, the interior had little bits of what looked like fried chicken skin in the driver's seat and center console. When I went for tne test drive, I saw where an additional 1,690 miles had been put on the car from the transfer time. The salesman stated it was not unusual on a transfer. They refused to adjust the price on the now higher mileage (it was a low mileage '17).....and the window sticker misrepresented the mileage and had the original price. I did receive a refund of the $199 transfer fee. During these reduced business times you think they could at least clean out the car.....there were 2 customers, including me and plenty of blue shirted employees there. Misrepresentation of odometer mileage in advertising...c'mon. This might be a local issue with mismanagement and not reflect Carmax as a whole? read more

The whole store seemed to work well together. The managers worked well with the associates and then the business office finished the job with precision. This has been the best car buying experience I've had. I tried several other dealers and they were pushy and uncaring. There are no sales tactics here, just honest deals. Dishonest personnel, poor management. I took my car in for an appraisal: they "missed" a couple of features on the car, one of them expensive - this way they were able to lower the appraisal offer. I contacted CarMax and explained: they didn't even bother to respond. I contacted this particular location's management: no response whatsoever. My sales consultant was Bradfort Lee; my appraiser was Ariel M. How can you do business with dishonest people!? Horrible they sold us a car with over 121,000 miles, no warranty and did not tell us the extent of the damage on the car. Brought it in for service once. They had the car for a week and did not give us a loaner car. A week after getting it back I took the gauge cluster off to find they removed the bulbs in the dash that indicate what is wrong with the vehicle. I loved that they weren't pushy and the salesman even noticed that I didn't totally love the first vehicle I drove and searched around until he found exactly what I was looking for!! They had to add a remote start after I bought it because it was advertised with it equipped but it wasn't... I was completely expecting a run around and for the bs'n to start... The only reason this isn't a five-star rating is I feel there was not a thorough inspection of the car before we bought it. Wheel balance, wheel well liners not fastened, this could have/should have been fixed prior to us buying the car. Past that the experience was excellent, our salesman, Mike Jones, is the best. The car did experience further problems in the first week of ownership, but we were given a rental that was actually better than the car we bought. Our car hasn't been returned yet, but we have not been inconvenienced by its absence. We will buy another car from CarMax when the time comes. read more

Purchased a car from this location on Nov 15. By day 4 I realized the sunroof was leaking. By day 6 I was hearing a weird sound while driving. I called service and was given an appointment for the following week. On day 10 I was hearing a cracking sound from the right front tire so I called to see if I could move the appointment up to which they replied no. I did not feel safe driving around not knowing what the sound was so I demanded they look at the car immediately. I was told I would have the car back in 2 days. Here we are 2 weeks later and I still don't have the car back. This is my first purchase from this company and disappointment is an understatement. The problems the vehicle has are things that don't happen overnight. Did they not thoroughly check the vehicle out and catch these things behorehand? Of course at this point I am outside of the 7 day exchange they offer, but I assumed that under the circumstances they would make an exception. At this point the car has been in service longer than I ever had it, and I was refused the opportunity to swap it out. I will never purchase from them again and I will make sure nobody I know or come in contact with does either. Bad business! read more

I live over 45 minutes from this CarMax, but they had the car I wanted. I talked to them ahead of time, and made plans to visit. I went and bought the car. However, it did not have the Bluetooth that they advertised, or that they told me it had. They wanted me to pay to have it installed, which was not going to happen. I returned the car, and Chris Johnson, the manager, arranged for a refund. My refund was short the tag fee, which he promised would come in the mail in 1-2 weeks, along with compensation for my travels back and forth. There has been no such refund, or compensation. They ignore my calls and tell me it is coming, even though we are 2 months past that. I like CarMax, but not this branch. Salesman mislead me, manager did nothing but apologize and say he would fix it, which he did not. read more

I had a good experience with CARMAX (however my purchasing style is different than most) I found a vehicle for my wife (a surprise) and negotiated the total price over the phone, they came and picked me up from my house (so I wouldn't have to drive and leave a vehicle there) and after I declined all of the extras (extended warranty, forever wax, etc.) all of the paperwork was completed and I was driving away within 40~ minutes. Anything Mr. Washington tells you (even if it's that the sky is blue), make sure you confirm it with management. If the manager on duty happens to be Mr. Coleman, get it is writing, then take a picture of it, video tape the entire process and have a notary on standby. Anytime they tell you they will "honor" anything, especially THEIR appraisal, it should be a red flag because apparently the ears of 4 other people do not hold up to that one person who is only capable of "honorably" forgetting what he said. A plan was developed on purchasing a car with a trade-in, the only wait was for the car to be shipped to the store. The appraisal they do will not cover the shipping time for the car your interested in purchasing....don't let anyone tell you that it will. They appraised the trade-in car twice, apparently missed an expensive issue that conveniently came up on the day it was time to purchase the shipped car. It lowered the appraisal value, which was already a low ball compared to KBB value. This convenient oversight snowballed into a horrible car buying experience. CROOKS!! read more
