This was the most mediocre food I ever had in Italy and service was horribly rude. While it has over 18K Google reviews, it isn't good if you know authentic Roman food. It's probably popular with familes of tourists because the price of items is cheap, like €8 for spaghetti with red tomato sauce. Also the portions are quite small even for a primi. About the service: there are not any Italians working there, everyone is from Africa and India so hearing them speak Italian in their native tongue is bizzare! In a way it's very sad to me the warm Italian culture is lost here. They aren't very friendly and walk away if you have questions about menu items or allergies, which is disrespectful. They don't want to bother with catering to customer needs. Very transactional mentality at best. I'll give the establishment props however for being efficient about their system of getting people in and out quickly and up to the door to pay once the meal is finished. Ambiance is what lured me in with old World charm and has a lovely stone archway as a focal point of the interior dinning room and an intricate hand painted ceiling. Outside patio is a good size with heaters making it acceptable even on colder winter nights. There are so many restaurants in this quirky Trastavere neighborhood. The food is not the best you'll find, but is very solid and is less crowded than some of the other nearby restaurants where sometimes you have to wait an hour to be seated. First of all, I want to start by saying it takes a LOT for me to give anything below 4 stars. I should preface this by saying, you get what you pay for. Very low prices here, so we fell into the tourist trap. We sat outside, which we were excited to do so, but then we realized all the tables were crammed together and we were sitting in plastic seats. We were practically elbow to elbow with our neighboring table. I was even asked to scoot even closer to the table than I already was so the wait staff could maneuver around me. Atmosphere 1/5. As far as food goes, my date ordered pizza and a mixed salad, I ordered off the Menú Turistico. We also got the liter of red house wine and water naturale. The pizza came out two minutes after he ordered. There's no way that pizza was fresh, it was likely just reheated from a premade stash. The "mixed salad" was lettuce with tomato on it. Nothing else. The complimentary bread was good I will say, but we had to ask for olive oil to go with it. For the mixed salad he ended up adding olive oil for dressing, pepper from the pepper shaker, and parmesan that was provided. The menu turistico - I chose the "homemade lasagna" for my first dish that looked like it came from a frozen dinner. The parmesan was given to me after I was halfway done with it. The chicken and mixed salad second dish was dry, mostly bones, and looked like it came from a rotisserie chicken bought at a grocery store. The "mixed salad" was a couple pieces of iceberg lettuce. That's it. The bruschetta was also a piece of the good bread I mentioned before with diced tomato and arugula on top... not my favorite. Lastly, the house cake for dessert was a small sliver of cake. It actually tasted fine, but I would've rather spent the calories on something else. If my written review didn't convince you to not come here, just let the pictures speak for themselves. Please avoid this place. We came here for our anniversary dinner and were very disappointed. Overall, a cheap tourist trap. read more

The pizza was decent however the muscles tasted very fishy and the chicken Milanese was a glorified chicken tender. Our server was not friendly at all. SETTING: Not that familiar with the streets of Rome, but all I know is this place is very easy to get if you ask a cab driver. The location is super cool. Outside patio is very nice and can fit a lot of people. Place is relatively clean and well taken care of. There is an inside seating area but definitely sit outside! SERVICE: Great service here. The waiter barely spoke English, and we barely spoke Italian. But we somehow understood each other very well. They took great care of us and the food came out extremely hot and fresh. You know what? I would absolutely eat here again when I come back to Rome, and I would order the exact same thing I did last night - the seafood spaghetti dish. I forget it's exact name, sorry. Our hotel concierge recommended this place, and my mother might have asked him what was an "affordable" place in Trastevere. Lol. Because according to her, she can afford literally nothing [insert eye roll]. And when I saw the prices, I was skeptical about how good this could be. This restaurant is at the beginning of a tourist street lined with restaurants and this has to be the worst by far. The outdoor seating is crammed into several long stretches of communal tables. It's inexpensive and the bathroom was pretty clean and that's all it has going for it. I arrived when there was no crowd and it took 20 min to get silverware and place my order, and at the end another 20 min to get the check. I didn't mind paying at the register, but I do mind the gruff treatment by the staff who out numbered the patrons at the restaurant. One of the best keep secrets in Trastevere! Very friendly staff and a place where the local students hang out often. Very affordable and very delicious place to go. If you are in the area and need something to eat stop here because you will not regret it. First thing is.. Italians love to take their time eating and the waiters there don't push you out of the restaurant to flip the table like they do here in the states. With this in mind, you will have to flag down a waiter to get your order in or a refill. Don't get me wrong they do take care of you but there is a more laid back atmosphere in Italy so if you are in a rush this is not the place for you. That being said the food does take a bit to get to you but they do taste amazing. There is all kinds of stuff on the menu but my go to was the pizza with 3 meats?!? cant remember the name i just knew i liked it when i had it. Following that the pizza margarita is delicious as well. OMG OMG the artichoke is heavenly. I think this is an add on a pizza or you can just order as an appetizer. Now they don't do the cheese and crush red pepper in Italy or ranch so dont ask. Even tho this is a touristy area they do tend to have some 'cheese crumbs' but is not what Americans are used to in the states. If you ask for water they will bring you bottled water unless you ask for tap water. If you are not specific they will bring you sparkling water in a bottle. To avoid this you can just bring your own bottle and fill it up in one of the many flowing water spouts in the city. I drank this water all the time while i lived in Rome and this natural spring water is trusted So this place is spacious and they can accommodate large parties, just go you wont be sorry. read more

An authentic trattoria! It was inexpensive and the food was good. I ordered from the tourist menu since it seemed like a good deal (14€ for an antipasto, primo, secondo, and dessert). Good place to eat delicious and pay very less. Pizza for 6 euro was worth every penny. I've been to this place a few times while in Rome and every time I had an excellent meal. I've tried their lunch special with pasta, bruschetta, pork dish and desert and all I ate was tasty and fresh. Tiramisu was excellent. It gets quite busy but they have a large sitting area outside where you will be surrounded by other people, so it is good place to eat but not good for a nice special dinner where you want to sit not to close to other tables. Prices have not changed in over five years, which I suppose is quite ordinary for Italy, but a comforting discovery for a frequent visitor from California. On the flip side, the menus have been in use for a long time shuffled by many hands of diners from all over the world. =) For my yelper friends and followers, you guys probably figured out by now the repetitive song of dining in Rome: it's pizza, pasta, gnocchi, panini, Insalata, vitello, pollo, lamb ribs, each of which can have any number of varying sauces or cheeses. The spread is similar from place to place, and the difference lays in the variety offered, the quality of food and service, and of course, the pricing. I have posted photos of my recent visit to Carlo Menta on a Tuesday in June of 2016. I often look for grilled fish, cooked whole and served on a bed of greens or with a side of cubed sautéed potatoes (not your typical American fries). They can plate it for you, but honestly, it's so much fun to work on yourself. =) I'm going in the backwards direction here, but for the apps, they are usually prosciutto and ham or mozzarella based; fresh Roma (of course!) or cherry tomatoes are used to top your salads and pizzas; fresh tomatoes are slightly braised for sauces on your pizza or fettuccini-fettucelle-spaghetti-spaghettini-spaghettoni-linguine-tagliatelle-penne-pennette-pennoni-cannelloni-macaroni pasta; and the sweets... don't get me started! Pastries, fruit tarts, chocolate covered desserts, tiramisu, crema catalana (crème brûlée), panna cotta, Tartufo... Service charge is usually €1.5-2 per person (in place of typical American tips). Young red house wine is usually offered, served in 1 liter carafe jugs (of various sizes, in all actuality), and it could be a tad sparkly, reminiscent of Lambrusco or Brachetto. Bon Appétit! Carlo Menta was our first ever dinning experience in Italy so I know I personally was super excited to finally taste authentic Italian cuisine. This place was good but not anything amazing. I like how they had tents outside with heaters in them so customers could dine outside without being cold. The only negative about that is that if you're a non-smoker then prepared to be around smokers. It's also a tight squeeze not only in between tables but also in between your own table and chair(s). The service was mediocre. I'm sure a language barrier didn't help but there was nothing really friendly or there was no sense of willingness to help from our waitresses. But anyways, we were seated right away and our food came within I'd say just over 5 minutes from placing our orders. Our bread, however, was soooo bad! Like it was hard rock, extremely dry, and I felt like I could've broken a tooth on it. I ordered the gnocchi with tomato sauce and basil which I loved--the tomato sauce was amazing! I also got the rocket and tomato salad which was also good (it comes dry so make sure to add some olive oil and vinegar on it, though). My niece got the lasagne which she said tasted good but was a tad bit dry and on the smaller size. They also don't separate bills here which seems to be the norm so far in Europe, so be prepared to calculate exactly what you ordered. My friends and I randomly walked into this joint Bc we were hungry as hell and the place was huge and crowded with people in the patio area. We opted to sit inside w the AC. We all got an order of pizza and it was big. For like 2-3 euros you get a huge pizza (we should have known we are in Italy)... I think prices were cheaper Bc we weren't in the main tourist location of Rome. Pizza was good but not amazingly good. We decided to eat here three times while in Roma. Reason being was that the food was sooooo good, and it was so inexpensive. You can't ask for anything else in my opinion. Also they have an amazing terrace-patio that faces a lively area of Trastevere. On a few nights the CD selling tent across the way would provide us with a good mix of Italian current pop music and trendy music of the day. It was free music while on the terrace. As well, they have a few cars parked outside the patio-terrase so it provided a good barrier so other cars couldn't drive up close. Did I mention the patio-terrase was just awesome in the evening as it was well shaded and service was always pretty attentive and top notch. We did have to flag down the servers by raising our hand but then they were quite attentive to our needs! So on my first evening I ordered off the tourist menu. You get a bruchetta appetizer then a first course of pasta (carbonara) and then a second course (Milenese style cutlet w fries) and a choice of dessert. All of this for wait.......13 euros. Second evening and third evening I ordered the Special pasta with seafood 8 euros and again the Milanese style cutlet. Seriously for a seafood pasta for 8 euros? This would be $22 - $24 back in Montreal. It was just all amazing! My wife ordered different kinds of pizza and we were never disappointed for the price! Pizza Marinara (no cheese) is just 2 euros. Pizza Margherita was just 3 euros!!! Seriously! I'm glad we ate here three times while in Roma as we looked around at a bunch of menus other places and none were as reasonable as this and the food was just amazing! *****keep in mind also they do put a service charge for tip on the bill.
