After I broke our front door lock during the last big storm I looked at all the good reviews and called Carlmont Lock. Mike called me back within a few minutes after I left my message, and he came to the house within an hour. He was friendly and courteous, and best of all he was able to fix the lock with parts he already had and didn't have to replace it. This lock has been sticky and difficult for years, and Mike made a few adjustments to the way the lock fits the door and the frame so now the lock is not only fixed but is actually working better and easier than I can remember. As others have mentioned, he had some really smart helpful suggestions to make my life with locks easier. Also, the price was quite reasonable. They were not available to service my location but even so they took the time to go over with me on the phone what I should expect from whoever hire and what to watch out for. They made it clear that I should ask for hidden fees, if the lock would need to be replaced at the end of the service and other things one generally would not think of if it was there first time requesting entry into their house once locked out. I ended up finding my key so I lucked out but if i ever had a choice i'd definitely go with Carlmont Lock as they are a very honest and reputable business. If it was possible to give six stars for Carlmont Lock, I would!!!! Customer service was exceptional and Mike was very friendly and honest. He was able to come to our apartment and install a new lock and cut 4 keys to accompany it, taking all of half an hour. Mike was excellent! We had a tough situation after my wife's purse was stolen on the T, and we wanted to have our locks changed to make sure we were safe. After reading the reviews here, this was the first place we called. Mike got back to us quickly, gave us an accurate estimate of when he would be available, and then sent us a text when he was on his way. If you are in the Cambridge area and have a problem with an existing lock, Mike is the guy to call. The lock on my back door broke, and based on the other Yelp reviews I decided to call Mike. He came over within a couple of hours of when I called, was quick, efficient, and fixed my problem at a reasonable price. The sort of locksmith I might expect to get would probably have insisted on replacing the entire lockset at great cost. Mike was able to locate the broken part, find a replacement part in his van, get the lock working again, fix the underlying issue that caused the lock to break to begin with (slight misalignment between lock and strike plate), and then give me advice on how to get a backup replacement part in case the problem ever crops up again - all in under an hour! read more

I called Carlmont Lock after having trouble getting my key to go into our front door lock. Mike was already headed towards another appointment in my neighborhood, so he swung by right after I talked with him, fixed our lock quickly, and showed me what to do when it started sticking again. He was extremely friendly and charged me less than his normal fee since he had already been in the area. All told, it probably took less than an hour from when I called to when my lock was fixed. I called Carlmont Lock to get my condo rekeyed. Mike took the time to talk over my options and helped me to figure out the best and most cost-effective solution. I decided to replace some of the hardware and keep others so the colors matched. He helped me to pick the best brand and avoid a rekeying fee by selecting dead bolts that had matching keys. When he came to install the new locks and rekey the hardware I was keeping, he walked me through the installation process. I was catsitting for a friend and couldn't unlock the door with the key I'd been given. Because it wasn't my apartment, Mike suggested I have a police car also come by while we unlocked the door to verify my identity and create an official record.
