I found out about this place because I attended a Yelp event earlier in the week and luckily I was on that side of town so I decided to stop by and grab lunch. I ended up getting two beef patties, which were extremely fresh and delicious. There was also a food bar you could choose from in all of the food look extremely tasty. I also got a pineapple ginger drink, and it was extremely delicious. The service was fast and it came with a smile and since it's a takeout, the ambience was OK, there wasn't any music playing and inside was very clean.
This place is truly a vibe! Previously I only stopped by for takeout, which I enjoy. Their jerk chicken is good! The customer service is excellent. I know there's a running joke that if a Jamaican restaurant has good service, the food isn't good or vice versa. That is not true here! The service is good and the food is good. I recently stopped by on a Saturday night to check out "Limin' Saturdays." Yes there's a bar on the side. There's even an outdoor space with an igloo set up. How cool! The DJ was great. Shout out to DJ Fyah Oats for the chunes! Service at the bar by Dominique was excellent. I like that they feature local places like Shmidt Spirits! Woot!
Tried CaribExpress because every time I pass by it's always jumping so I had to see what it was about. The vibe is definitely a nice set: great Jamaican music , good energy, and a perfect local spot to grab food (and a rum punch). Service was solid, fast and pleasant. The food is set up buffet/express style, but there's seating available if you want to eat in. I ordered the oxtail plate and it was pretty good, but I wasn't overly impressed. The meat wasn't as tender as I expected. My partner, however, loved the baked salmon, so I wouldn't mind circling back to try that. It's located in downtown Laurel, so street parking is available. Also, it's a Jamaican spot, so expect the music to be LOUD. Overall, a solid local spot with a fun atmosphere.
I've always seen this shop on Main Street & to find good Jamaican spots around this area can be tricky, but this place was good. It's actually bigger than I thought. When you enter there's a 'To Go' area then the sitting down area and it's a nice ambience. The service was great! Not sure who served me, but she was stunning and so sweet! The cocoa bread was good and not dry with a sweet flavor. The patty had a nice slight kick and was good. It's giving I'll stop by for those fried wings that were having a staring contest with me I'm giving this a 7.5/10 I'll go back & try more food!
Finally tried CaribeExpress. Can't believe it took so long. I've been driving past this location on main street for months. Walked in and saw a variety of classic Jamaican dishes behind the glass. Everything looked fresh and yummy. I went with the curry chicken meal which came with two sides. The gentleman behind the counter was kind enough to allow me to swap my cabbage for channa. I can honestly say this was one of the better curry chicken dishes I've had in my recent travels to local Caribbean restaurants. It's bone in chicken which is hard to find these days. It had just the right amount of kick to it and wasn't overly salty. I found out they have various events during the week/weekends on the other side of the carry out section. I will definitely be back to check out the vibe.
(3.5 stars) Overall, a good experience with good food. I came at the end of the day, which I knew meant I probably wouldn't be getting the freshest jerk chicken. It wasn't juicy, but it was still good for an evening meal. I wanted more rice and peas than I got, though. And you can never go wrong with plantain from a Jamaican spot, in my opinion. The cabbage was overcooked. I like a little crunch in my veggies, but again, it was late at night so they might have been sitting for a bit in the hot line, steadily cooking. The beef patty was good, and I think that was actually the freshest thing I got. I had to wait an extra 20 minutes for it to cook. There are a couple of tables and chairs outside, no seating inside. I was standing inside waiting for my food and they told me to wait outside and they'd bring my food out to me. Another customer came for his order and they told him to wait outside, too. I was fine waiting inside so I'm not sure why they wanted me out. The service was very friendly. I want to try a couple more things on the menu, so I'm sure I'll be back at some point.
Main Street seriously has some gems. I caught up with a friend that lives in the area and we wanted to try this place out. I had been hearing about it for a while, but I had the opportunity to find out about the new lounge / dine-in area and wanted to experience it myself. My friend and I met up there around 6:00 on a weekday, and a few people were in line to order food. The bar / lounge / dine-in side was completely dark though. When it was our turn to order, we asked about the bar side, and the owner (I think) turned out the lights, let us sit at the bar, and he came to check on us regularly. To handle a to-go line and customers at the bar simultaneously in a timely manner is appreciated! They have a happy hour that offers various $5 things, like rum punch and wine. For my entree, I wanted the ackee & saltfish, but it was out, so I got the brown stew salmon. I thought it was delicious! The rice & peas and veggies were good. Let's talk more about this dining area though. It's... spacious. And there's an outdoor area too -- when it's summertime, you could totally have a party! I can't wait to see what it looks like during that time.
The hot honey wings, the jerk wings and the garlic mashed potatoes were simply delicious, the tacos shell broke apart as soon as we picked them up, causing a mess. I strongly recommend you change the soft shell brand. Service was good, and drinks was excellent, the ambiance is beautiful. I definitely recommend
I keep returning here because they are consistent! 1. Callaloo: wow, flavorful, little too dairy, but so freaking good 2. Mixed vegetables: cabbage and peppers are still really crunchy, which I enjoy, but my husband cares for it to be cooked a little more. Personal preference.... So good to me. Not your typical cabbage but it's flavorful. 3. Fried chicken....TUH! Only had it once but man, I went the next day just to get more. They didn't have anymore, and they're closed on Sundays, so best believe I'm going tomorrow. Seasoned and cooked perfectly. 4. Plantains: perfect, no complaints, not super sweet and candied, there's a place for both types. Loved it.
I stopped in one day to grab lunch. I ordered the oxtail. It came with rice&peas paired with cabbage. The meal was very good. It was well-seasoned, and the portion was generous. The staff were great and greeted me walking into the restaurant. I will definitely visit again soon.
The food is decent and the place is nice and clean. The patty was okay and could have had a tad bit more meat in it. The coco bread was missing a little flavor and was a little crunchy on one end. The soup and food was tasty. The sorrel was excellent. It's just as pricey as every place else these days. Give them a try if you are in the area. The service was friendly.
Nothing was good. The oxtails were warm and very stringy. I had two chunks of meat and the rest was fat, bone, and hard stringy muscle fibers. The rice was brown and didn't taste like the authentic rice I've come to know. It's usually tinted dark from the beans but this was completely brown and I don't know what kind of flavor or sauce they put on it but I was not happy with it. Almost all of it was left. The cabbage was crunchy. I dummy like my cabbage overcooked with a little crunch to it but this was almost like I was eating coleslaw. The flavor was there and that's about the only thing I ate all of. I'm sad

Like drake said, "the best I ever had". When you see a grown man moaning while he eat, that mean it's good. I just can't put into words how good this meal was. I even told my wife it was so good I didn't wanna poop it out because I want to keep it inside my body. I have nothing negative to say about this place, and that's nobodies problem. Yesterday, I stopped at the small carry out on main Street in Laurel. I was welcome as soon as I came in and the gentleman who was serving the food help me pick up a dish. I settled for the stewed snapper with rice and peas and sauteed cabbage. I didn't want the plantains, but I was curious about trying the ackee. The young man gave me a sample and I decided to add it to my order. For less than $30 hubby and I had a mouth watering dinner and had some left over (mostly the rice). I will definitely , return to order the chicken curry or my hubby. This is a place to visit and support during this covid 19 crisis. Support a small business. read more

I have left the restaurant ordered $40 worth of food and it fell on the floor as I left the restaurant. The worker did not separate the bag of orders which consisted of Small oxtail with sides and Brown Stew Chicken. I can back immediately and told the worker this, I was offered no assistance or apology. I was told as stated "I told you to hold the bottom of the bag, and you were on the phone". No acceptance or responsibility or do over the order. The bottom of the brown paper bag busted open. I will not eat here ever again, this is the one in laurel. Buy at your own risk! Finally a Carribean restaurant with authentic, delicious food and very pleasant staff. Absolutely love this place. I'm so used to Carribean food because my dad is from Guyana and growing up in Canada, you can always find really good West Indian food (plus I've been to Trinidad as well) and this spot definitely lives up to the authentic taste of the Carribean. After a long, treacherous journey to the Main Street Post Office in Laurel, I decided to skip over to the next block and stop by Caribe Express. This place is low-profile, but totally worth seeking out. Today I had a hankering for their patties - fried, crispy pockets filled with delicious goodness. We tried the beef, fish, and chicken. Every patty has a letter embossed in the crust to tell you what's inside, so you don't have to guess when you get home and take them out of the bag. Each patty was bursting with ingredients and flavor, beautifully spiced, and totally filling. I'm definitely going back to try their other menu items, but if all they had were their pockets, that would still be enough to keep me coming back. I've been to this place twice now and let me start off by raving at the customer service!!! When I went today, it was clear that they care about their customers. One of the workers mentioned that a lot of regulars go there. She was so great to the point where she even remembered people's usual orders. The first time I went, I was just craving Jamaican beef patties but TODAY I decided to go all out and get myself the oxtail. The portions were pretty big, but I was starving so I managed to finish the whole thing! The oxtail was fall of the bone good and I would definitely get it again. My only critique was that I wish it was spicy, but I might just have to pack some heat (lol) with me next time to I go. And will I be back??? 100%!!!! read more

10/10. The people who work there were amazing. All the foods look delicious and I had a hard time choosing one. Finally order some oxtail and chicken. I enjoyed it a lot and my dad enjoy it a lot as well. Will definitely come back for more and definitely recommend it. read more

I finally had a chance to stop here and order a full meal. The service was great, and the people that work there were nice. I ordered the oxtail with rice and beans, cabbage and plantain. The portions were good, ordered the regular size. I appreciated them warning the rice before putting the rest of the items. It was hot and ready when I got home. The food tasty very good and the oxtail fell right off the bone. Definitely a place to visit again. read more

What a PLEASANT surprise!!! Stopped in to grab a bite before heading home and was met with a SiStah that extended the greeting of the day, WITHOUT a scowl on her face and absolutely NO sign of an attitude . She even made me feel welcomed and valued while I placed my order. THANK YOU I hope the other young lady in my initial review takes note! Customer service with a SMILE goes a VERY long way. This place is AMAZING!! We wanted fish escovitch and it was sooo good!! Whole fried snapper with spicy peppers, rice and peas with spinach and cabbage! I will definitely go back! It's $25 for a whole red snapper and two sides, but it is worth every penny! My sister got the Mac and cheese to try and that was good as well. I was searching for a place to eat after a scheduled emergency dental appointment, and a brief stop at the United States Post Office. While walking around Main Street in Laurel, MD, I saw the outdoor signage for Caribe Express. I decided to view the Yelp reviews for Caribe Express, and was impressed. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, along with the rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains. I also ordered their Fruit Juice. My meal was absolutely delicious. The customer service is excellent. I am looking forward to visiting Caribe Express in the near future. read more

We have been to Laurel before but went to the Jessup location this time. The food is very good! The salmon was delicious. The portions are very small. I'm used to my Jamaican restaurants loading with rice and veggies. Not so here. For the cost I think they should at least fill the container with the sides. The juices are over $6 and much too sweet. And the cake was so dry it crumbled, but in all the food is delish. We only go occasionally because of the cost. read more
Late post, but still relevant. I visited on a Thursday with a craving for some good Caribbean food. I ordered the curry shrimp which comes with rice and peas, cabbage, and plantain. I got some coco bread as well. I wanted a side of macaroni and cheese sadly but there wasn't any there that day. The portion size was very good and the price wasn't bad either. Everything smelled so good and everyone was so friendly. I took my food home and ate it. Honestly, I was slightly disappointed. The food wasn't as flavorful as I'd liked. It was good but I like rich spices with a little kick. There was definitely a lot of food because even though I have a healthy appetite I couldn't finish it all. I ate the rest of it the following evening and the seasoning had a little time to marinate in the food so it tasted better. read more

Wow where have I been that I've missed this gem? I'm from Brooklyn NYC and I'm shocked at how large the portions they give for such a low price! AND they don't cuss you out for asking for more gravy I ordered the oxtail meal and the jerk chicken meal--both were REALLY GOOD (would've liked bigger oxtails though!) and very flavorful! The cabbage medley was unbelievably fresh and weren't overdone mush like a lot of "Caribbean" places give you. The portions alone would be good for 2-3 more meals. I definitely will be back for more! read more

I enjoyed my first experience here! Let me say that it is very nicely pares on Main Street! I was able to find parking very easily! The restaurant is very small, therefore social distancing isn't a problem. If there's no room inside, you wait outside till you can come in! There are illustrations on the floor that tell you about spacing! The women who run the counter are amazing! They are extremely friendly! The reggae is playing in the background...it's a real vibe! The first time I ordered oxtails!! They were awesome! They were tender and flavorful! I enjoyed them soo much! I decided to go back to order brown stew chicken! Let me start off by saying...I love brown stew chicken! However, this didn't do it for me! I had to wait about 20 minutes for it! When I got it home to eat it, I had a fun back of chicken pieces...mostly white meat which I hate! There wasn't a lot of gravy added to my plate so it came off dry! It lacked a depth of flavor that I'm used to, so it was a bust for me! I did however order a beef pattie which was pretty good! I will definitely return, but won't get that item! read more
My husband and I spent the day running errands and found ourselves in Laurel looking for place a to eat. We came across Caribe Express while browsing nearby restaurants on Yelp. I recognized the name immediately as a restaurant that I had bookmarked not too long ago. I called ahead of time to ensure that they had oxtail, jerk chicken, rice and peas and plantain. They were able to let me know that they had all of the above. We went in to pickup our food. I went with the large oxtail plate, which came with rice and peas, plantain and cabbage. My husband got the regular jerk chicken, and his meal came with the same sides as mine. We also each got a Ting soda, a dumpling, and a spicy beef patty. Our total came to $45. The food and service was so incredibly authentic that I almost felt like I was beachside in Negril, instead of in the middle of a nationwide pandemic. We will most definitely be back! read more

First of all, the woman behind the counter serving the food wasn't the most welcoming. She charged me about 20.00 for a goat meal with white rice, I asked her not to add plantain and cabbage. Also she gave me a little helping of goat with mostly bones and the food tastes just okay. The fish pattie wasn't that good either. Dissatisfied. read more

I had the Brown Stewed Chicken Combo with Peas and Rice. This meal was beyond excellent and the serving size allows for leftovers. The Plantains were juicy with great caramelization. Highly recommend!!!! read more

Casual walk-in. Good spot for quick lunch or dinner bc it's like a Boston Market where the food is already made and you go to the counter to pick what you want. No tip necessary. Very clean seating area. Whatever you get, order a large instead of the regular, unless you're on a diet or not that hungry. Their Oxtail and Goat Curry will melt in your mouth but again, expect burst of flavor over size of dish. read more

This restaurant has a relatively small dinning area. I guess its designed for carryout only. I ordered a large and small jerk chicken platter and was a little disappointed to see only little wings and no thighs or legs when I returned home. I'm not sure if there was a shortage of meat but that was unacceptable. I'm only giving this place 3 stars because I think their jerk sauce is pretty good. The large platter is priced too high, I thought they mistakenly charged me for oxtail @ checkout. Adding plantains to the platters just to bump the price up is robbery.
