I had been monitoring a Hyundai Kona through various 3rd party websites since it went up for sale about a month ago. I reached out last week once I saw that the price had gone down to $14,999, which was very much within my budget. When I reached out, I was contacted by no less than three separate people, including one associate with a subject line of "willing to take less". I think this may have been where the communication started to go downhill as it was spread between so many people. I work a 4/10s schedule and run a very busy commercial kitchen so email is preferred since I can answer quickly in any down time. However, I ended up calling due to being in contact with so many people. I spoke to another associate about the price a bit. I told him that this was my first car buying experience at a dealership so I would need a little assistance with the process. I also told him that my loan had been approved for $10,000 with me putting $5,000 down in cashier's check. At no point in our conversations did he indicate that this amount would not be sufficient. He even reiterated that the price was a no haggle/hassle free price. I scheduled the appointment to drive up from Tucson and was told that I would probably be meeting with YET ANOTHER associate. This person sent an email confirming the appointment. I again asked if there was anything else I needed to bring or know and got ZERO response from her. Nevertheless, because I was very interested in the Kona, I kept the appointment and drove up at 6:30 am with my wife (4 hours of total driving). Once at the dealership we went to look at the vehicle and were informed that after taxes and fees I would be looking at an additional $5,000 plus. I immediately reached out to one of the initial associates, who had sent the email saying that you were willing to take less, to express my frustration at the lack of communication. She agreed to assist with the rest of our meeting. She confirmed that the price would be around $20,000. I asked for an itemized breakdown and was given an estimate. I was informed that your website states that there is a reconditioning fee ($1,997) and document fee ($999.90). However, the estimate stated the reconditioning fee as $2,994. I asked for clarification on this discrepancy and was told that the extra $1,000 was for a "clear coat." I asked how it was possible to clear coat the vehicle when the roof rack that I was told they did not have a key to remove (and covers parts of the vehicle,) but was not given a straight answer. As this is my first dealership experience, I do not believe it is too much to ask to have that $2,994 itemized out. I find it unreasonable to be asked to pay almost $3,000 but not be shown a breakdown of exactly what I would be paying for. I was also told that a 3rd party sets their prices and that they can't be lowered. I ultimately had to step away because I felt like I wasn't getting honest answers or communication. In my email to management after my appointment I pointed out that this was clearly not true since the vehicle was initially listed as $16,999 and was reduced $2000 since its initial listing. I have yet to receive a response to this email but know that the car sold to another person since it is not listed on their website any longer. Clearly PEOPLE DO NOT MATTER to this company, so do not go here with your business if you want to be treated like you do. read more

My rating is based on a few really great points and a couple of troubling points. The average together gives my score. I have a 2015 Mazda CX-5 that I had brought in for transmission problems. It was noted on Mazda's Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that my particular transmission that fell between a certain date is was defective. I felt this was clearly something that Mazda corp. would be responsible for and contacted them with my issue. Mazda corp. eventually provided something called a goodwill allotment in which they pick up a portion of the repair cost. I couldn't be more appreciative of this. Between the dealership and Mazda Corp. my car was repaired and back up and running exceptionally with no problems. I was given a loaner for the course of the repair so was able to complete my daily tasks of going to work and run errands. When my car was complete and I went to pick it up, I had too problems which bothered me and that was the car was never washed and had dirt/grease on the interior from the mechanics. I get that this would happen during the repair, but it should have be cleaned throughly afterward especially since the repair still cost me 4K. Also the battery was completely dead. After bringing this to attention since I couldn't leave if I wanted to, the rep put in a new battery free of charge but I was still left with the task re detailing my car out to be clean again. If not for that part I would have given 5 stars. I would recommend this dealership. They seem to mostly have a good team and it shows as clean and professional. read more

She asked what I was looking for, payment I wanted and what I needed to have to buy today. She didn't want to waste my time and I appreciated that as I function the same way. I went to no less than 4 Mazda dealerships over Thanksgiving Weekend trying to get a new ride. I started at Berge which is where I signed my first lease 3 years ago. They didn't have what I wanted and tried to sell me something else. They refused to contact the other dealers to even try and get me the car I wanted. Any hoo, I did test drive with them and I ended up liking the cx5 but not loving it. I walked away after a not so quick price negotiation. In the meantime, my friend had negotiated with Horne Mazda the same cx5 for a much lower price out the door and monthly. Definitely rubbed me wrong that Berge was trying to get me to pay premium price on the same vehicle they had on special on their website. My price was way higher than the advertised price. After hitting up Mazda dealer on the westside and getting a very aggressive internet sale rep, decided to not waste my gas and drive all the way to Avondale. The sad part is they had the car I wanted. Mazda 6 Signature with Blue ext and Cream Parchment Leather. Ugh...probably would of signed up for that. Sales was such an idiot, no way was I going to subject myself to that. After another rude text via Berge, on a price negotiation on the white cx5 that really didn't love, took a ride out to Cardinale Way. My boss purchased both her miatas here so I decided to check them out eventhough much further commute than Berge. I dealt with Internet Salesman Chey first. He was straightup nice gentlemen. I told him what cx5 I was interested and the price range. He said he thought we could be in the area and he was right. Chey and I had nothing but good interactions. Eventhough I wanted the Mazda 6 this CX5 was pretty sweet so I decided to get it. First crossover and it was pretty loaded. Had items that I needed and some that I didn't really want to pay for initial. Overall happy with purchase. Reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was checkout process. I felt that the numbers weren't that great given all the incentives that I already had. Sales manager was nice to begin with but then kind of jerk when I had questions. Those questions came after waiting 3 hours in the lobby on an empty stomach. The print kept getting jammed or printed black forms. 4 hours after deciding to get a car, still no car or paperwork to review. When I had questions, they kept saying isnt this the monthly payment you agreed upon. While yes, it is but ...thats not my question. Really after waiting 4 hours to get the paperwork you have an attitude about asking questions. I am lawyer and thats what we do...so if you can't answer my question before I sign this contract, then I will leave. So thats what I did. When I was about to leave Mike offered another service...well that doesnt cut it. I am hungry, my cell is almost dead and my questions are not being addressed. Left with my 2017 Mazda and decided that wasn't for me on that night. Was able to eat, relax and talk over the deal with my husband. We both decided that I would just chill on the car search and begin after the new year. Any hoo, Chey reached out to me and I decided to go back up there on a full stomach. The general manager was present and he reworked my deal somewhat and actually went over paperwork so my questions were answered. In addition he able to ensure my lease turn in would probably be at zero cost since no major damage on my mazda 6. I walked out happy with my cx5. Chey went over how to use it. Lease paperwork was completed in a few days without drama or delay. All in all happy with my new lease. Will be taking it up there for my 1st service in a 2 months and then also gonna hit it up for my 2nd service that Mike offered. Will update review after I check out service department. I really liked the Berge service department, so I hope this is comparable. Check this dealer out. Know your prices before and what inventory looks like before. Apparently they do this to all of their pre-owned inventory. The reconditioning is part of the business of selling pre-owned vehicles. You're already taking in these trade-ins at wholesale value, and selling them at retail. Yet you still charge customers this bogus reconditioning fee. The vehicle I'm seeing is a 2020 model and still has manufacturer's bumper-to-bumper warranty. Yet these clowns still wants to add their 2 year/24 month maintenance package on top of it. They told me it's "mandatory". Show me the law in writing where it says this is mandatory. The $999.90 doc fee.....good lord! These guys knows no bounds. Lastly, nitrogen filled tires.....how old is this scam? The atmosphere on this planet is 78% nitrogen. Attn: Dealer/Owner: Yesterday my father and I went to this dealership to check out a Mazda Cx30 Carbon edition. My dad originally spoke to Jason over the phone and made it crystal clear he wanted to know the price of the car before we showed up to the appointment INCLUDING tax/title/license and any other fees that were included. He stated to Jason multiple times he did NOT want to get there and have any hidden surprises or fees added to the total he provided. Jason assured him over and over that the price listed on the website was everything we would be expected to pay and so we booked the appointment. We show up and Jason is tied up with another guest, a nice gentlemen (Matt?) came over and offered to assist us in the meantime which was appreciated. We looked at the car and told Matt we wanted to get some final figures and if they were to our liking after we went home and compared prices to our research we would be back to buy the car the next day. We walk into the dealership and sit down and right away Chris comes over (his manager) and takes over. He pulls up a different car then what we were looking at online which was priced higher then the figures we had already been provided with Jason, and was extremely condescending and rude. We explained we had a different price and he goes "I've sold 3 cars in the last hour I DO SELL cars here" (there was not a SOUL on their lot so I find that hard to believe) he also said "I designed this website I know this website its mine" only to click around a bit more to find in fact, that exact price point we had come in with. (guess he doesnt know his website as good as he claimed". My dad was sitting at the desk with him comparing figures wondering why he was 1200 over the price he has discussed with Jason and Chris just kept saying very rudely, "I've already discounted the car $5k for you" over and over. I myself am in Sales and I would NEVER have spoken to a potential client this way EVER. Once Chris realized he wasn't going to get the sale anyway he stated "your welcome to go shop around in the valley" so we said Great! We will! and stood up and walked out. I brought it back to their service department for them to tell me tough luck I have to buy a new tire because mine was unrepairable, $333 out of pocket. They acted like I was being unreasonable when I brought up the fact that I bought the car 2 days ago and that it supposedly passed a full inspection. This is similar to another review here. I bought a 2018 Jeep Renegade that was exactly what I was looking for. I'm happy with the vehicle, but the pricing is a bit of a scam. When advertised, the vehicle shows up on sites as a "Great Price". Then when I agreed to buy it, there was $2,000 added to the price for refurbish or renovation or something like that. This stopped being a great price and more like a fair price. I think dealers should advertise the price that they are selling the car for and not the before we add on a mostly bogus ampount of money. read more

Disappointed they don't return calls or voicemails to provide services that are included in extended warranties. I bought a car two weeks ago and the stereo is malfunctioning and a piece of the door handle completely fell apart. I have called multiple times, been transferred, left voicemails and they don't return calls. They will do everything to sell you the car but nothing to keep their commitments after. Good news was a refund of $2,494. Bad news was it only came after two letters of complaint to the Arizona Attorney General Office. There has been no personal contact with me from any Cardinal Way employee. In a period of five days, I test drove and priced a used car I wanted at Cardinal Way on Day 1. On Day 3 I prices a similar car at a Phoenix dealer. On Day 4 the Phoenix dealer advised that his car had been sold to another buyer. On Day 5 the Phoenix dealer called to say he had arranged for Cardinal Way to sell me the car I had seen there on day 1 and with no traditional dealer add-ons and he gave me a name at Cardinal to contact. Later the same day I went to Cardinal, got a price (which I later discovered had includes $2,494 for something called AFTS and doc and admin fees) and bought the car. The car was delivered with no second key fob, no maintenance records, some incidental items missing (one rear floor mat, tray in console and tire valve caps and there were three separate noticeable chips in the windshield). The reason for this review is primarily due to the lack of response from Cardinal Way when I asked for clarification or help with deficiencies. The only contact from them was the check which came in the mail with no explanation, which I gratefully accept, however, Mr. Mortier's letter to the AG Office which I received a copy of from the AG was neither completely nor accurate, nor did it credit me with any justification for my issues. Statements like "I take this very seriously" seemed to be geared toward repair of any deficiencies of the dealership's standing with the AG. read more

Still a car dealership at the end of the day, but it has been the most pleasant dealership I've worked with to date. Nelson Eger in the finance department was the one who made it so pleasant. I would highly recommend working with him. He is kind and has your best interest in mind. A week into owning my car, I noticed that the AC was not working correctly. The service department fixed the issue, put me up in a loaner car while my car was in the shop, and took care of the whole cost. Juan and Jesus in the service department both went above and beyond helping me out. They both deserve a raise and probably a promotion too! I highly recommend this dealership based on my experiences. This is SUCH a sketchy story, please read all. Backstory: I purchased a 2016 Scion IA in November 2019. The purchase experience was frustrating, here's how this went. After test driving and looking at the car, I was very interested. I noticed some cosmetic issues that were not disclosed in the advertisement--fine--but felt that it was worth a bit less, so tried to negotiate a lower price for the car. They gave me a whole story about how it was the best possible price yada yada. It was more than I wanted to spend, so I said I'd think about it. The next morning, I received an alert through my email that the exact car I had been looking for, a Scion IA, was available within budget! Turns out, it was actually the EXACT car I had looked at, now listed for $1500 cheaper? When I asked, they said it was an automated listing adjustment. Awesome. So, they lied about it being the lowest price. It's a used car, so I chalked it up to the used car salesman stereotype and moved on and purchased the car. Next, I immediately started having issues with squealing brakes. I brought the car in to be looked at and they assured me nothing was wrong and that I just needed to work it in. Week later, absolutely no change. Bring it again (taking time off work again) only to tell me that they are fine, they gave them a good clean and it should be good to go now. Surprise, it wasn't. After the 30 day warranty is up, I had no choice but to take it to my mechanic and see whats up. We tried a bunch of different remedies, but ultimately the brakes needed to be replaced. FULL BRAKE JOB. Once again, I was frustrated because it felt like I was lied to again? There's no WAY the team didn't know this. But....here's the final straw. See the attached photo. I started getting random flashing symbols on my dash. Had the mechanic pull the codes and review everything and he says he can't find any issues with what the codes are suggesting, all seems fine. He says to take it to Toyota for a specialist to review. Here's where it gets interesting. Toyota techs review it and said they found a strange after market black box attached under the steering column and that they have no idea what it is, but looks like it's VERY rigged up, so they suggest I take it to an audio/security specialist to review as they'd be able to tell me what it is and remove it if needed. Well, turns out it was a homemade TRACKING DEVICE attached through the vehicle. It was connected to everything: ignition, windows, locks, steering and more. Tech says in 35 years he's never seen anything like it. I asked him, is this something that should have come up during the inspections at the dealership? He said no question, this should have been found and disclosed to any buyer. This is very scary. Who knows if it's been sending/receiving signals this whole time? It also easily could have caused SERIOUS problems with such ridiculous homemade wiring and connections. And at the very least, how completely unprofessional to not check your cars before you sell them? All I can say is this, DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING from this dealership. read more

Great dealership! We just bought a new CX-5 and had a great experience. This is actually the third new CX-5 we have bought from CardinaleWay. Our sales experience was great, both Mike and Dustin were fun to work with. Their service department has always been one of the best as well. In the past we have worked with Steve and Nick. I highly recommend CardinaleWay Mazda to anyone looking for a new car. Plus, I definitely recommend the 2018 CX-5 - it's a nice vehicle, that rides quite and smooth and is fun to drive. I'm really happy with my purchase. Only two minor negatives on the CX-5: Window Tint. The front driver and passenger windows have barely any tint, which does not block out the sun enough (glare and heat). Also the front windshield does not have any on the very top. I immediately noticed how much sunlight was glaring in. Not too happy about that in the summer because that means using more AC to stay cooler feeling. The only reason I bring this up, is there's a built-in charge to the vehicle showing the dealership tinted the windows, and it wasn't inexpensive, so it should be much better. No Apple CarPlay (I'm hoping for a display update in the future) read more

At that point they brought back a deal that I had not asked for and the monthly price was over double what the Mazda website was advertising, this is against consumer protection act. Makes no sense when I've been receiving text reminders of my upcoming appointment a couple times throughout the week (yes I confirmed my appointment). Tried to show him my reminder text and he didn't look once, kept staring at his computer like he wasn't hearing what I was saying or trying to show him. He doesn't give you room to speak, he'll just keep talking over you. He was able to "squeeze me in" like it was my fault. After the service was completed, I went to pay only to hear more condescending comments like, "once you can afford, I recommend x, y, z." How does one know what another can afford? I was interested in a car at CardinaleWay in Mesa. I found them very deceptive. I was interested in a 3 year old Miata with less than 2000 miles for $27,999. I asked for the total cost and was given $34,005. I added up the cost of the car, the sales tax and lisence. They were asking $2700 above that. I asked the sales person about it and he said that there was a $1900+ charge for +reconditioning". I didn't get to the other $800 charges so I don't know what they were for. I decided to look elsewhere. Be very careful dealing with this dealership. If they just advertised the car honestly for $31,000, I would have bought it. read more

They had me bring it to service sat there for 3 days, then told me it needed a update that only ford can do. Took it to ford, they told me the transmission is bad. BAD EXPERIENCE at the service department in this place, I booked a service for my Mazda CX5 through the website I stated there that I needed a ride or rental, the request went through, when I got to the service the guy that received my car told me that they didn't have any rides or rentals, I expressed that I needed to go back to work but this person seemed to be careless about it and did nothing I ended up having the guy cancelling the appointment and took my car to another dealer, He did not care either to loose a customer either. Never gonna take my car there ever again nor even think on buying something, I rather drive a couple more miles to a place where customer satisfaction is a priority. read more

Two words: hidden fees. There is a certain transparency that an invoice provides which verbal agreements do not. After asking four times for the bill of sale, it's contents raised some initial questions which only compounded when we started asking more detailed questions about it. We were told that a two year warranty was "complimentary" in the sale of the vehicle. The bill of sale had a line item marked as "Aftermarkets" which was a additional $2k which came as a surprise and counted toward the pre-tax cost of the vehicle. It was very hard to understand what this was for because we were unable to get ahold of the Sales Manager, Chris for 36 hours. We were in limbo, waiting and feeling like we were forgotten. While we were waiting, we were finally able to get an explanation from the Finance department. They explained that this fee was for the 2 year warranty and for the cleaning of the vehicle. As a consumer, the cleaning/detailing of a new car is something I would expect a dealership to take on (kind of like any necessary maintenance prior to sale) nor did I expect to be paying for the warranty that seemingly described as "included". This not only caused us to have faltering faith in this transaction but also began hindering our view of the credibility of the dealership as it felt more and more like we're being snowed on some details. When Chris finally became available, he quickly defaulted to refunding our deposit, which we ultimately appreciated, but there was no willingness to discuss the discrepancies - it seemed like either a learnt behavior and/or we became more of a hassle than it was worth to them in asking these questions. If you decide to purchase a vehicle from this dealership I would urge you to do your due diligence and ask for all costs in writing and question them as you normally would in a car buying experience, but evidently more so and with greater discernment than perhaps you normally would. Learn from our experience. We're all at different experience levels when it comes to buying a vehicle and on this particular instance our intuition was validated by some questionable practices. read more

This dealership is awesome! I purchased a 2022 Mazda CX-30! I absolutely love my car! I also have to say this was the BEST car buying experience I've ever had! The whole team was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! There was never any pressure to buy or attempts to upsell me. From the beginning of the buying process to the end, I interacted with 3 different salespeople; Riley, Gerardo, & Darlene. They were all amazing! Had a strange problem with my entertainment system. Every other Mazda dealer wanted to charge $200 just to look at the car before fixing anything and wouldn't get me in for a few days. I was dreading going to buy a car and wanted to avoid the car salesman stereotype we here about all the time. Cardinale way Mazda in Mesa really went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcomed. We knew what we wanted and was shown different styles. We came to see a particular sales person who was busy with another customer so Matt provided us with excellent service. We walked away feel very excited about our purchase. Matt answered all of our questions as we were getting ready to drive off the lot he made sure all of our questions and concerns were addressed. Spoke to Patrick Goth. We came to help our friend purchase a car. Extremely disrespectful and your typical car salesman. Kept talking over me and when we told him we only wanted to talk about the price out the door and not the monthly payment, he made an annoyed face and went to talk to his manager. We didn't play into his sales tactics and that obviously made him annoyed and frustrated I get you might not be able to budge on the price and maybe we were looking outside of our price range, but there's no need to talk over us, look and sound annoyed, and then ask why "the lady wasn't doing any of the talking since the car was for her". She told us what she wanted and what she was looking for. We were there in case we ran into disrespectful, unprofessional, pushy sales men like yourself. We do appreciate the option to look at other cars in our price range however. Our friend just didn't want anything but the car we spoke about. Highly recommend you work with someone else other than Patrick if you decide to come here. I'm sure the dealership is great, but this guy was not. read more
