One sushi roll took about 15 minutes and the birria bites took about 25 minutes! Crazy wait times for such a small crowd. We managed to grab a larger enough table and everyone circled until we made our individual choices and then returned to our central meeting spot to break bread and indulge in all of our finds. A classic chocolate chip and a fresh out of the oven s'mores. Prices were not listed anywhere we could see, but we were in for the sweet treat. I was, however, taken aback a bit that two cookies were $10 and some change, but having said that they were delicious cookies. Especially the s'mores. We're still pulling for Gibson Mill Market to make it because it's such a great concept. The atmosphere is great for meeting up with friends and hanging out with a beverage.

However, in looking at the receipt after getting home, we noticed an added 10% living wage service charge that we did not notice at the restaurant, and no signage about this that we could see. We always tip well and thus left a tip of 25%, so in all, they received an extra 35%. It would be good to be informed about this up front, or better yet, that they are paid more to not need that extra charge. If we had been told, we may have adjusted our tip accordingly. The restaurant is less than half full--four-tops and booths sitting empty as far as the eye can see. Meanwhile, every single traveler is wedged (ironically) into these tiny little two-tops that are about one-third shorter than a normal table. The very people most likely to need space are the ones being denied it. That's the whole reason solo travelers walk into places like this: space, a real table, somewhere to eat and knock out a little work between flights. So I ask politely if I could have a larger table. I'm told they're "for larger parties." I ask if I could sit in a booth. Same answer, delivered in that polite-but-pointed, bless-your-heart Southern tone. Darl'n. It gets better. The other half of the restaurant is even emptier. I ask again. Same answer. Different server. Same script. A small parade of hospitality lemmings. On my way out, the hostess suddenly notices the obvious: empty tables everywhere. She "finds" me a four-top. Moments later, she does the same for another single diner. Then another. Apparently the rules loosen once customers start walking. So: lousy hospitality, a faint mist of condescension, a smashed "wedge" salad that had clearly never met a wedge, and a $22 "therapeutic" cocktail to dull the experience. It's another great restaurant and retail area to enjoy while you're passing through our airport. There's already a food court in the atrium area but this is beyond the E security checkpoint. Clean, open, airy space with several vendors. In the center, a bar area operated by Asheville's Wicked Weed Brewing. Around the perimeter, Auntie Anne's pretzels, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Shake Shack and the second Bojangles to open in the CLT airport. (Bojangles is based here in Charlotte.)
