Chris, the owner or manager, not sure which kept trying to talk me into letting them install my radio, when I just went in to get a wiring harness. Based on the price of the harness I got from another dealer and info I found online seemed like he was trying to over charge me for the harness by about $50 - $110. I walked in expecting about $175 for the harness, by the time he got done trying to sell me on all the extra parts and services I was supposedly going to "have to have" to get this system working and keep all functions that came with the factory set up steering wheel controls, navigation, chimes, etc.. by the time all that was added up with parts and labor we ended up going from the $175 I was expecting to $547, to install a $100 radio and get the system to work. Then on top of all that he tells me that there is no way to keep on star working unless I spent like $500 on something to upgrade the onstar system or something. To be honest by that time I had pretty much quit listening. So he tells me that, then I find out through doing some research on the parts he was trying to sell me on that the harness kit he was trying to overcharge me for has everything included with it to keep onstar functioning properly. Which I could care less about onstar anyway. I think it's a joke and a waste myself but, it doesn't matter if I'm going to use onstar or not, it's the principle of the thing. Anyway in the end he didn't get any of my money, I took my business to another store that sold me exactly what I needed, no problems, no questions, no bullshit. Anyway of course everybody has to make their on choice but if you do deal with him just be careful, be prepared and do some research on what you actually need. Don't just except anything he tells you. Just advice, take it, don't take it's up to you. I just don't wanna see anybody get taken advantage of. read more

I am giving Car Toyz a 5 star review, based on communication and quality of installation. I had purchased my own equipment for a truck stereo, speaker replacement, with an amplifier. I bought my own equipment and wiring, so I was just looking for installation only. There are not a lot of these places around anymore, so I decided to take a chance at this place. I communicated with Chris, directly through Yelp messaging. He responded promptly with prices and availability. We were able to set up an appointment on a Friday and we were off and running. The install was fairly uneventful. It took about 4 hours total (4 speakers, amplifier), which I thought was fine. The technician did a great job on the install. It came out super clean. The only thing I was would have happened, considered the price I paid for labor only, was more of an explanation of how to adjust the amplifier and crossover. I am fairly electronics literate, so I was able to do much of that on my own. That was my only negative. The rest was positive. Overall, the experience was good. I would use them again for my car stereo installation needs. read more

First, my advice would be to educate yourself on tinting products and processes beforehand and call and question the shop BEFORE you purchase any tint related Groupon. The shop is a smaller shop located at Midlothian and Courthouse road in Midlothian Virginia. Upon my arrival, I was immediately told that by the shop manager that the film used to tint the windows that the Groupon paid for was a tinted film that is an inferior product that only comes with a 12-month warranty. I was also advised that the tinted film would eventually, also around the 12-month mark turn purple and begin to show bubbles. I was then upsold for $50 on a better product that had a lifetime warranty. I was also told that this shop doesn't normally carry the tinted film and that they were instructed to carry this inferior film by Groupon. I was told that the tint install on my 4 door car would take approx. 4 hours. When asked to do customers generally wait at the shop I was told "not really" due to the length of time, for this reason, I left the car. The total completion time was around 6 hours. Overall the tint job was good. I will have to take the car back to have a couple of minor corrections, ie. trimming film that's too close to the windows edge. read more

A classmate at VCU told me about Car Toyz.I was looking for a car shop that does a good tint job at a reasonable price. After doing research on window tinting in Richmond, Car Toyz had great reasonable prices.I've had my tint on my car for 3 years now and the tint still look great. The tint comes with a warranty .I referred Car Toyz to my sister and a couple of friends. Their tint came out really nice. I also had a modern CD player installed in my older car and the work was solid. Car Toyz is located across from Chesterfield Towncenter in a little strip mall. The service is fast. They will tint your windows within a couple of hours. I went over to the mall while my windows were getting tinted. The employees are friendly. The atmosphere is pretty laid back. I recommend Car Toyz for window tinting because of the reasonable prices and warranty. read more

I went here to get my stereo fix Chris was really helpful on trying to get my radio fix. After finding out my radio crapout it was time to get a new one. As for me when I'm upgrading something I like to go all out. So I got a pioneer 4100nex, 6 speakers, 10'in sub, and two amp all from Memphis Audio. They did an awesome job installing it and did it slowly and professionally. Jami was the one that installed my whole system and it came out marvelous, clean and loud sound with bass. I would say it was about 3x better than what I had before or maybe 6x better dunno yet since it haven't crank up the volume yet on this baby! Would definitely be back for any audio issue or upgrade I would want done. Definitely recommend for anybody wanting an audio upgrade!! Memphis audio rocks!! Update. I just want to update my review. Fast forward 3 months later I was not satisfied of just having a 10in sub, I just felt like my current system could do much more and my car had enough room to go bigger subs. So I went back to Car Toyz and see what they can do for me. Since I already bought my 10in sub and amp from them , they kind of did an upgrade program discount like T mbile lol... i didn't pay full price for the new subwoofers and new amp, but traded them in inseated. I got 2 12in subwoofers and new 750 amp, and let me tell you my new subwoofer set up is amazing. Chris is awesome for giving me discount even thought he didn't have too, This place is professional and awesome on installing car stereo system. Might come back for some dynomat later on, but for now I'm enjoying my new subwoofers freaking awesome!!! read more

I bought a Groupon special for tints $99 actually it was $120 but ended up getting 20% more off on a special that Groupon ran. I scheduled my appointment for 3pm when I arrived I was told that they were behind because of the special no big deal for me I looked for a seat and here is where my first gripe was. If your going to have people waiting for some time can at least supply more seating than a love seat? The woman before me was sprawled out on it and I was not in the mood to ask her funky ass to move. I went for a walk ,mind you it was cold and snowing that day. I came back and after about a 45 to 55 min wait they finally took my car in. I thought I had a choice as to my shade of tint but since it was a Groupon special I had to take what they gave me. All in all the job was fine well and there was a minor problem which I brought back after the 2 week break in period and they took care of it with no problems. I selected Car Toyz based on referral and the high Yelp reviews. I spoke with Chris on the phone who is very knowledgeable and professional. I have about $1,700 worth of work that I want done that I need in two stages because I have a new vehicle. I want to make sure there are no issues with my vehicle incase the manufacturer says defects are due to aftermarket add-ons. My main goal was to have a reputable shop install my amp so know my interior will not be damaged. To get the best pricing on the install you have to purchase all equipment and accessories from Car Toyz which is reasonable, what I did not know is that they price match on-line purchases from retailers like crutchfield.com, I did not see that anywhere on the website. Had I known then I would've done just that, once in the shop I was there so I went ahead and got the install instead of returning the equipment to get a price match. The install was clean and there are no damages that I have seen to the interior so I am happy. I was disappointed that the amp was only installed and not tuned, on the drive home I thought my front speakers were disconnected because there was no sound coming out of them, all of the presets were flat, and vocals were almost non-existent. After several days of adjustments the sound is where it needs to be, vocals are clear, and the base is tight. Also, I brought in a 10" sub and 12" sub. Chris recommended the 12" saying that it would sound better, I agreed. Upon pick up, I noticed the 10" was hooked up and the installer said it was because it was smaller, would save space, and that I did not specify which sub I wanted installed which I did. When I got home and swapped the subs to check the sound, the 12" is blown. This could've resulted from storage, I did not test the 12" before I brought it in, so just as a tip too consumers with pre-owned equipment, test if you can no matter where you are taking your equipment for installation. With all that said, I still think Car Toyz has the best reputation around, Chris is professional, and the workmanship is clean. read more

My dealer took my car to Car Toyz for a tint job of the front 2 windows and windshield (October 9th). I repeatedly made sure they knew I had a medical waiver and could go as low at 35%. The day I picked the car up the windows were beyond a filthy, smeared mess. It looked like a 3 year old had been in my car with wet nasty little hands. There were bubbles and debris all over the place. They told me it would go away but would take 3 weeks. I could never get the glass clean. The first day I drove to work the morning sun was shining directly in my view and the "haze" from the window was blinding, could not see the road. This occurred out of all 3 windows. I also took a road trip to southwest Virginia, I got a sun burn through the driver's side window. So this can't be a product that protects from sun. I waited 3 weeks and went back. I explained all this and was treated as if it is all in my head. I have been driving the car for 3 weeks with "dirty" windows, I am beyond frustrated. I had a previous tint job and so I do have something to compare to, this isn't just me "thinking" something is wrong. We spoke and I said that I was at the point of just wanting taken off. But I thought they were going to try and resolve the problem. During all this time it was and had been very cloudy, and on the day I went back it was also cloudy. I said why don't I come back when it is sunny. November 20th I went to 2 different shops and the windows measured 47%, not the 35%. So not the right product after all. However, at Car Toyz their measurement was 39%. So who is correct? Chris was not there so I spoke to another guy and the window tinter. I thought from their conversations that we were going to try and resolve the issue. Chris then came back and this is what he had to say, no one else has ever had this problem and insinuated that it is just me. He said that he did not want to try and fix the problem because I would still not be satisfied because again it is just me. He said then they would just take the film off "and I don't care if you are mad". That was his exact quote. I have taken the car to 3 other places, everyone can see the haze and they have even mentioned how bad it looks, so it is not in my head. I was going to have them remove the horrible tint job but now I don't really trust them with my car at all. read more

I put 4 or 5 remote starters in various vehicles over the years but age and bad knees now limit my auto repair activities. These guys did a great job, at a promised price and less time than expected. I called them three days after the estimated arrival date and they told me it had already arrived, so I was waiting for nothing. Then when I brought my vehicle in I was told that it would take three hours to complete my installment and they would call me when it was finished. Yet again they failed to call me. read more

There's something to be said for a business that has anything to do with cars that does not try to take advantage of me, a young female. My car is a very un-flashy Toyota Corolla. I had no idea why my speakers weren't working, and was throwing myself at the mercy of the technicians. They figured out that one of the speakers was broken, causing the entire system to short out. They found a quick fix, closing the circuit without the broken speaker, and I walked out paying 45 dollars. Of course, they gave me the option of replacing the speaker, but said that the speakers come in packs of 2, and honestly, I just didn't want to put the time and money into fixing it! Although their business is based on people taking pride in their audio equipment, I didn't feel judged for not wanting to mess with it. I hate going to a car place and saying "I have no idea what's going on." This company was honest and polite! read more
