I brought my vehicle to Audio Express to address an audio output issue. Following their initial diagnosis, the amplifier and transmitter were replaced. A few days later, my left rear light stopped working. Assuming it was a simple bulb issue, I took the car to another auto shop. I was then informed that the problem was due to improperly reinstalled connecting clamps, which had been removed to access the amplifier during the prior service. I contacted Mike at Audio Express to explain the situation. He acknowledged the issue and assured me that I would be reimbursed for the cost of the repair. He stated he would coordinate with upper management and arrange for a reimbursement check. After several weeks without any update, I followed up and was told the matter was still pending. I continued to wait, but after more than three months and multiple attempts to get an update, I have neither received reimbursement nor any further communication. While mistakes can happen, the lack of follow-through and accountability in resolving this issue has been very disappointing. read more

I showed up on a Wednesday morning with my 2006 Chevy Impala, with all of the pieces from my sweet new stereo shoved in a giant plastic bag, some wires that I had no idea where they started, ended or what they went to... etc, the dashboard had been dismantled almost entirely in attempts to install this stereo.... So it was then that I headed to talk to Mike and Andy. Not only did they not laugh at my misfortune - but Mike was totally empathetic, looked at all my equipment and within minutes agreed that - yes he could get in it that day and that he'd give me a call around his closing time to see how it was progressing. Imagine my surprise when I get a call at 1:30p that my cars DONE everything WORKS and I can come pick up EARLY! Beyond outstanding! Mike made sure even the little plastic bits around the edges of the touch screen were removed and easily troubleshot a lighting issue with my backup camera in less than 30 seconds and had it repaired in under 8 minutes. I had them install a new radio in my wife's car as a birthday gift for her. I'm extremely pleased. Service is phenomenal. We needed a very basic radio installation, and the rep working with me didn't try to up-sell me or expose our lack of knowledge on car stereos. We set up an appointment which I had to reschedule, and that was no issue at all. They had the whole thing done in under 90 minutes. The total cost for parts and labor was $200 after tax, and I felt it was fair. To be honest I came here based on reviews and didn't shop around at all, so I'm not really sure on market prices for car stereo installations. The actual radio is very nice and works fine. When I asked the rep if he sold Aux cords, the dude just gave me one for free. Small gesture but I appreciated it. If you want to wait there, they easily have the comfiest waiting area I've seen. Big, comfy couches and TV with a mini fridge. I strongly recommend them for any of your car audio needs. read more

When my wife decided she preferred my SUV over her car, I traded with her. The only problem? The 2016 Corolla that I was now driving was sunroof-less. The solution? Audio Express on Broad Street in Richmond. Steve and the rest of the staff were friendly and quick with this customization. The price was below other places I called and the sunroof they installed is MUCH larger than the standard Toyota sunroof for my vehicle. Went in seeking a quick repair on a speaker wire. Specifically I broke the wire connection on a base reducer to a tweeter. They fixed it for me and at a outrageous amazing price. Stopped in to see if they could install a new head unit in my new truck. I had just left another audio store where they said they could and went over all the hardware, wiring, etc. needed. It was a little higher than what I wanted to pay, do I thought I would check out Audio Express. The sales person at Audio Express was not great. Seemed confused about what I wanted and what was available. Then another salesperson said that not all the features I had on my steering wheel would work with the unit I wanted. He was wrong, because there was an adapter that would integrate all my controls. Bottom line, they did not seem very knowledgeable and the customer experience was not comfortable. I went back to the other store and had a new head unit installed and all works perfectly. read more

I haven't purchased anything from here yet, but my experience with one of the representatives will ensure that I get my system from Audio express. Let me explain... I recently purchased a Toyota 86 that I love dearly, but the audio is relatively subpar. I've never owned anything but stock sound systems, so I went in knowing absolutely nothing. I wish I could remember his name, but the man that I spoke with was patient with me and didn't try to up-sell me on anything. He even made suggestions to increase the sound quality without purchasing anything from Audio Express at all. What locked me in was that when we went outside to my car, some random bag of (sunshine) was leaning on my car while talking to someone else. An older (gentleman) whose classic corvette was parked next to my car found it suitable to lean upon a car that did not belong to him. When I made eye contact with him, he got off of my car and continued his conversation elsewhere. I nearly lost my (bearing), knowing how I could and could not afford to react. But what really helped me calm down was that representative, who said many things I won't repeat here, and let me know that the world isn't as full of (pot)holes as I assume. Years ago, I brought in an old CD player that I received for free when I purchased a used car. It was uninstalled and I was told that it didn't always work properly hence why it was removed. I asked, Andy, to take a look at it and tell me if it was worth getting fixed or if it was worth just getting a new one. He had his technician review it and found that it worked fine, it just needed to be cleaned. Even though I was planning on installing it myself, he didn't charge me a thing for this service and even gave me some tips on the installation. I was prepared to have it done Friday - which they were going to try to accommodate but they ended up doing it same day in less than an hour. Granted this was an easy install and not typical. I went into Audio Express for new speakers for a car that my family gave me while I attend school. I found out from my brother-in-law after the fact that four of my speakers were just replaced in the past year. Two of the speakers did need replacing which is the reason the sound was so bad. My total bill after several "upgrades" was $1500. Do NOT go to this place without getting a second opinion. Ok, so I normally never write comments about experiences I have had with businesses but this time I feel like I should say something. I drive a GMC 2500 Diesel pick up truck with all terrain tires on it. ( So the truck is a little louder than most vehicles on the road). It came with a Bose audio from the factory. I spend tons of time in my truck and I thought I could get a better sounding system. I recently just had Audio Exchange ( also a great company ) install an entire home theater and whole house speaker system. That is what gave me the idea about upgrading the truck system. Anyhow I went into Audio Express talked with Andy and we decided on a new system. I will admit it was not an inexpensive upgrade but once the system was installed it knocked my socks off. It gave me sooo much more power, clarity, volume and control over the system. The processor was tuned perfectly for my hearing. ( Make sure the installer knows if you have any hearing issues like I do).He will tune it so the highs pop a little more. The entire staff is very professional and answered all of my questions, comments and concerns. It was a first class experience all the way around. I walked in knowing what sound i was looking for but not sure how much it was going to cost. These guys know what they're doing! I have a 2013 f150 that had a crap stereo. The owner went through my requests and built a really nice system for a fair price. I was waaaaaaay overwhelmed by the clarity and equal bass of all the diffent types of music I enjoy. They even fixed a faulty wireing job that a different place in town did when I had my truck shell installed. Very clean and very professional job. It took a couple of days because I had sound deadening installed as well into my doors and WOW it makes an unbelievable difference. I wanted to install an aux jack into my acura Mdx 2007. They told me they can do it but they are going to need to order it and they require me to pay a $50 advance towards the $190 entire quote. I agreed and paid it to them. After leaving the store they called and said that they didnt include an additional part which would cost an extra $30 and so the total would be $220. I told them that thats fine. Next day they called again and said that the total would be $250 and instead of installing an auxillary connection, they would install something that would play the audio from the car FM radio. At this point I told them that I dont like the solution that they offering, cause I already have an FM transmitter i dont need another one for $250 freaking dollars. They told they can cancel my order but I would loose the money that I paid in advance and they would just keep my $50. Thats the reason I always use my American Express while dealing with the crooks. One phone call and they instantly charged back the dealer and gave me my money back. Better luck next time Mr Andy. read more

I had an appointment and took my Van into Audio Express to have the alarm system removed. They did remove it, but in the process dislodged the audio remote wire. I was told to bring the Van back to the shop so they could diagnose the issue with my radio not turning on. I asked the technician if he could take a minute to diagnose it, but the management got angry with me and said they had too much work to do and to bring it back after the New Year. They diagnosis would have taken a few minutes at the most. They were very rude to my wife too. This establishment is and it's owner, Andy Bagwell should be avoided at all costs. Take your money to Rolling Thunder. They are honest and much more inexpensive. read more

I came in and told Andy what I wanted and he reviewed every available option with me, along with the pros and cons of each model in a very professional manner and with zero pressure. Andy took a look at my vehicle and told me exactly what I did and did not need in terms of parts to save me money. The install was top notch and looks like it came straight from the factory. Let me start this review by saying I try hard to find something good in most everyplace I review, while giving an honest assessment of my experience. That said, this rating is solely regarding this businesses lack of communication. I emailed Audio Express on September 7th, 2018 asking about having a 25" monitor installed in my van for road trips. It is now February 24th, 2019 and I have not received an email or any response whatsoever. I guess it's possible my email was misplaced, marked as read and forgotten about, accidentally deleted...heck, after 5+ months, maybe they're still drafting a response to my complicated question seeking information or maybe their response is sitting in the draft folder! Regardless, Audio Express lost a potential customer with this customer service. Admittedly I could have called and followed up on this. I could have brought my van in to have it looked at. I'm sure Audio Express does solid work (I've heard as much). But the ultimate question is this...do I want to do business with a company that can't spend 5 minutes to write a simple reply back to me? Is this customer not worth as much as any other or is this how all customers seeking information are treated? read more

I purchased a car stereo from Audio Express and installed it myself, actually I was just plug and play. I needed to replace a pioneer deck. Of course they tried to discourage me from doing this saying that it may not work due to the new deck being a slightly different model but he install couldn't of been easier. The deck worked for two weeks then locked up. I went back to the store to replace it but was informed that due to the fact that they didn't install the unit they couldn't just replace it so I needed to send it back for repair. So I did. After checking up with the store 1 month later it was still not back. 1 week later I checked again and was informed that the repair had been completed at the factory and that I just needed to wait for return shipment. So I waited another week. Called and checked, it in transit and won't arrive until next week so I will not be able to pick up for yet another week. That's 6 weeks for a warranty repair, not their fault, I get that. After thinking about this I asked if I could return the unit since it was a warranty issue and I was tired of waiting. No was the answer because they didn't install it. (I could of bought he stereo from a national store and gotten immediately and when it malfunctioned after only two weeks returned it for a replacement without any problems). Lesson learned, deal with corporate America if you need good service. Hopefully I'll be listening to music in a week or two. Actual customer service at the store was good, that's the only reason they get a two star rating. It may have been different if they installed the unit but for the extra money I would of needed to pay for a plug and play, well, you do the math. BB here I come. read more

I have had numerous things done at your Broad st shop and I have to say audio express is the best in Richmond. I have downgraded and upgraded my vehicle many times and I can honestly say they have never one time told me anything other than they are there for me. I am a finicky person and go a little overboard on details sometimes and they have talked me out of buying $1500 dollar speakers knowing that my taste and style would be better served with a $800 dollar pair. Which by the way they where 100% right. I was there today waiting for something and a lady dropped her car off wanting a remote start that worked with her factory fob. While I was there they found that the car already was equipped with a factory installed remote start. After a laugh they called her and let her know, instead of taking the money and running.
