This was honestly the worst customer-based experience I have ever had. While they may "get the job done", their business is shady and they take advantage of those who don't know their way around cars. I went to get my oil changed and without asking, they put synthetic oil in my car when it doesn't require it thereby upping the surcharge from $20 to $50 along with every oil change from here on out since you can't go back and forth between synthetic and regular. They falsely advertise their prices on websites such as Groupon claiming that their original oil change price is $138 and that you save 80% by buying it for $20. However, their listed price for a regular synthetic blend oil change is $24.99. Not sure where these people get off... But I will definitely not be visiting this establishment again, and I advise others to follow suit. read more

I had originally bought a groupon for oil changes but ultimately every time something went wrong with my car I called them. I don't feel like there to expensive and they are honest. When I got my oil change he also gave me a price sheet of other things I needed to get fixed soon as well so that was a definite bonus ! I went in today for an oil change. It was my first time being a customer at this establishment and I was using a coupon I had purchased through LivingSocial. I normally dread this type of errand because I have 3 small children that I have to bring with me. The Car Guy has a separate room full of toys, games, coloring supplies & even a huge tv with a DVD player. Added to that I was able to make an appointment and they were running on time (when does that ever happen?!) it made our visit very enjoyable. At the end if the appointment they gave me an honest estimate for a few things that I already knew I need to have fixed in the bear future. There was no pressure, they just gave me the information on a print out & let me know the time frame in which I should get it done. They were very professional & friendly. My husband and I both had issues with the AC in both of our cars recently and we went to the Car Guy both times. I drive a 1999 Regal Buick and by husband drives a 2014 Kia Optima. My husband spoke with Gene who kept us in the loop on the findings and the cost to do the repairs. Our AC in both cars is running better than before. I would never recommend this business. I asked to have one job done. The job was never performed, but another one was, attempting to tighten up my exhaust, that I had never asked for in the first place. Which in the end made my car worse than what it originally was in the first place. I fully understand "Wes" was trying to be helpful in that aspect. He had also tightened up and replaced some clamps on my intake which was nice. But then was told I needed a header gasket replaced, which I knew, and was quoted $505 for, when I have previously been quoted $100 by two shops for the same job. Then when I informed the company I was coming to pick up the car I was told "okay" and immediately hung up on. Also posting on Facebook I received vulgar remarks from the owner "Gene" The most unprofessional run business I've ever seen. In the end, I'm out $92 for a "diagnosis fee" basically for them to look at my car, and money spent on uber to get around while my car was in the shop for a full day and night. Beware of this shop. Run away from this place. My first experience with them: I recently had a diagnosis for some alignment work on a G35 that had been lowered. 91 bucks to just look at it. The quote they gave me was total 3700 bucks for everything. Their estimate breakdown Front adjustable upper control arms: 1387 apiece (2 needed)=2700 bucks Rear adjustable control arms: 469 (for both) Labor: about 500 bucks (89 bucks an hour). I even confirmed, Is this right at 1387 a control arm?????? They said yep the front ones are expensive. I guess these were gold plated control arms- Ha Ha. Needless to say, I sure as hell would not go here or recommend going here. I did some research and the front adjustable upper control arms are 380 bucks for both from THMotorsports, the rear control arms are 134 bucks for both. That's about 500 bucks for the parts vs their quote of 3100 bucks for the parts. 5 star auto repair in Tempe is where I'll be going to get the work done. Ill buy the parts and bring them in to them to get them installed. Pretty sure I'll be saving about 2800... I guess if you don't value money go to Car Guy, they'll sap you; or at least try. I took my Nissan Titan to the dealer in Chanlder. They told me it is a timing belt a that was causing noise and needed to be fixed. The cost was going to be over $3000 to fix it. Oh, and it took Nissan more than 6 hours to come to this conclusion. Upset that I would need to shell out $3000 I want to the Car Guys to see if they could to the same work for less. Over the phone, they said, if it was the problem Nissan says it is they could do it for a little over $2000. I took it in at 8am in the morning. Before 9am, they found the problem. It was an oil filter, and a light sensor. Total cost because I added some things $200. It took these guys much less time and found the "real problem". I am never using the dealer again. I would highly recommend anyone these guys. Great service, get front desk service. All round I am very pleased. read more

Incompatent! Zero stars! Went to get my serpentine belt replaced because it was falling off. Paid $800 dollars and it still fell off. Went back and they put it back on. After that it broke. Turns out they want another $400 at least to replace the pulleys. Now my question is why didn't they check the pulleys before replacing the belt? **WARNING** DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! These clowns should not be working on cars. We purchased a car from the owner (Gene) of this "auto repair shop" and he informed us that he had personally rebuilt the transmission and had done repairs to the power steering. We were foolish enough to take him at his word. Long story short, literally two weeks after purchasing we had to rebuild the transmission and repair the power steering. When I called to discuss any warrantied work with the "owner" Gene, he dodged my calls and had is Mother (the real owner) talk with me about what they would do. ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING! They would not stand behind their work. Any of these other reviews must be friends or family writing them cause we are not talking about the same place. I looked up the Car Guys on BBB after the fact and they had unhappy customers due to unresolved issues and poor service (sounds familiar). Not to mention their shop is in the hood. Nobody in their right mind would take their car there let alone buy a car from these shysters. To date we have spent more for repairs than what we purchased he car to begin with. I have found my mechanic for life! This place is even better than the reviews. I spent all day at their shop last Saturday waiting for my car because of a variety of circumstances. I had the opportunity to hear how they treat people all day long and they really are as honest as they come and treat everyone like they would their own family. I had a difficult car problem and they stayed after hours to make sure it got done so I could get to a family member who was in ICU in the hospital. To say they went above and beyond is to minimize the feat that they performed! If I could give them 10 stars I would. At one point Car Guy was good to us. We spent over $10k with them on different projects as well as having them build an engine for us. Several things went wrong with the build on the technicians part. The motor was supposed to make so much power, and it didn't when we brought it to Bill Messer (tuner) . The car wouldn't even stay idling. The technician at Car Guy said he would not be available to even look at the car for over a month. After dropping over 3000 on a engine build I get thrown to the back burner. I waited, he had it for a week and said there was nothing wrong with it and we needed a couple other modifications. We fixed the issues that he said may be causing it, we took it back to Bill Messer and had it retuned and on the dyno again. It is still missing over 50hp+ from what it should. Again, Bill spent over 5 hours on the car trying to get it to just idle even gets on the phone and calls the mechanic right in front of me and asked what is done to this motor and why cant I get it to run? The tech wouldn't give us receipts, he lost our cam cards, couldn't even give us the compression rate. According to him it's "11:7 something" . I've had to take it to another shop called late night speed to try to figure out what went wrong and pay another mechanic to troubleshoot their motor since they refused to take any responsibility. They lost some of my lug nuts and replaced them with stock ones as well trying to be sneaky. Knocked over one of my brand new Saleen wheels and ruined the finish. Stay away from this shop. read more

Let me start by saying this shop is awesome and so is everyone who work there. Growing up my dad took care of all my car necessities so i am your typical girl who knows not a damn thing about cars. After picking up my car and driving it cross country about 6 months later i started having some problems with it so i brought it to your typical well known spots that work on cars, such as Big O. Every time i would go they would tell me what was wrong then try to upsell me on whatever else they could and me knowing nothing about cars i kept getting so confused on what to believe and what to do. Had an overheating issue on my 2003 Infiniti. They charged a very fair price to include all the required repairs to remedy the issue with a new radiator. Even after I left the shop and there was a residual issue, I was texted personally and told to let the car sit overnight and it should resolve on its own due to a bubble in the system. Sure enough everything is working perfectly again. I thought I blew my head gasket but was relieved with the knowledgeable response in text message after hours. Steering and stopping are much improved, and not squeaking with new pads. Another repair shop said the rotors couldn't be turned, but needed to be replaced- at considerable cost. I moved here from Wisconsin and had been feeling lost without my mechanic back home that I had been going to for 15+ years. I fond Car Guy through a Groupon for 3 oil changes. I am very protective and particular about my car. To most people it's "just a car" but to me I am the original owner of my 200K mile car and proud of it. My car had never given me any problems until I moved to AZ...it doesn't like being away from it's favorite mechanic i guess. Well Gene, Deb and his crew have been like old friends for me. I trust them to work on my car, they have worked with me on prices being that I am on a small budget and they do excellent work. Even though I am a female, I know alot about cars from working in a dealership for 12 years back home. They don't talk over my head with car lingo when I express concerns about my car, they actually listen and they give me the heads up on wear and tear issues that are starting to develop bc of the high mileage. They don't try to sell me services I don't need or want, and they have always been fair and honest. My boyfriend now has his car serviced by them too. You admittedly said you worked on the audi (tranny and power steering to be precise) and 2 weeks later I was almost killed due to poorly done work. Don't try to get out of that fact. I can build a car from ground up in less than a month how can you say "be patient" when it sat in the same spot for 6 weeks. Our family found Car Guy through a friend and we are so glad we did. My son, who was 20 at the time bought a used 1999 Buick from a used car dealer. After driving it for 3 months it stopped running on the road and left him stranded. We had it towed to Henry Brown on Val Vista in Gilbert. HB called us later in the day and told us the car could not be fixed and needed a new engine put in. They said a used engine would be approx.$ 2500.00 and a brand new engine was approx.$ 4000.00.That did not include any other work. Our friend told us we should get a second opinion from the Car Guy. We had it towed to the Car guy and they said it was a blown head gasket. They fixed the old engine, did a tune up, replaced any rubber under hood that looked bad etc. The bill was well under $2000.00. The best part is my son is still driving that car 2 years later. Not the best place to take your hot rod to. Gene is a super nice guy and customer service is fantastic....Unless they mess something up. They blame everyone else but them. After the fact they start saying things like you were on a budget or it was messed up before i got to it. So lets see i needed timing fixed on my mustang, I gave them a $300 budget to fix it and 3days. Well the next day they said i needed a new Distributor bame $350 for that then new spark plus $40 for that and i had to go buy all the parts and bring them to them. End result....Timing still bad paid them $300 even on top of all the new parts for labor and was told to take the car somewhere else as they can not fix it. Take it to the The Mustang shop, Misfire cylinder 8 and spark plug who cylinder 3 stripped out. Car was timed fine an carb was jetted to lean after Gene's Brother rejetted the carb. Did not get my old parts back that were fine. Nothing wrong with them. Was also told by Gene "Yea number 3. The one I told you about to you personally. That the plug YOU put in came out like it was stripped amd it didnt feel very good going back in either." Well if it was stripped before witch it was not, then why would you put another plug back in. You stop call customer and tell them HEY, this is wrong and needs to be fixed. You don't just throw a plug in and make things worse. All of the problems could have been solved by telling the me what was wrong and fixing it right. I also asked for an Alignment and was told the whole rack on the car was bad. Took Car to The Mustang Shop and John, the owner told me there was nothing wrong with it and it was just out of adjustment. took him 15min and it was fixed. He told me its a Total control Rack its about 2k and most non custom car shop and shop that don't work on high end aftermarket car's don't know how to adjust them. So once again lie after lie from Gene. I was also told my motor Witch is a crate motor with only 6k on it, is bad. This is not the case, misfire and plug leaking compression. as stated earlier were the problems. so to break things down, bought parts not needed to fix car. Did not fix car right, and made things worse. Not A Good Place To Go To. almost forgot he also told me car was running like crap because of Synthetic oil. Came in to get my tires aligned and had to wait two weeks to get scheduled just to have them say they couldn't do it because of a whole list of non necessary repairs they "needed" done before they could do it. Just seemed like a hoax to get you in and but other services. The first thing he mentioned wasn't even my wheels alignment.....it was an oil pan. Not happy. DO NOT COME HERE FOR A TIRE ALIGNMENT WITH THAT DEAL!! Also he tried calling me after the review to try to sway my comment which I will not, cussed me out and then hung up. He also insists on writing responses to not only my bad review but every bad review on here, calling people liars and trying to put the blame on us. That is just pathetic. LOOK AT EVERY RESPONSE FOR A BAD REVIEW. It is the same every time and it seems all about the tire alignment. I guess I am not the first one. Maybe YOU should work on putting a good service out there instead of making up stuff and trying to scam people into services they do not need. Take every thing this Wes guy comments with with a grain of salt because I guarantee there will be some nasty response to this like every other bad review. We took our car here about a month ago for an alignment special purchased on Groupon. The staff was nice and friendly, however, they did an awful job on my car. After the alignment was completed, the back end of my car began "hopping" to the left or right when I'd drive over bumps in the road - something it had not been doing before the alignment. Additionally, they told me I needed a part for my car that they quoted at around $100. We ended up taking the car to the dealership to have them look at the part we were told to replace. We also asked them to look at the "hopping" issue that had begun. Well, the part we were told to replace was in perfect condition and our alignment was completely off from manufacturer specs. Ended up paying the dealership $100 to fix the $40 alignment from this place. Last, when I called them to explain what had happened and to see if they would accommodate a refund, they had nothing to say except "refunds have to be done through Groupon." Groupon did give us an account credit, but our experience here was fraught with incompetence and dishonesty - neither of which are acceptable qualities for a mechanic. The Car Guy does everything right and easily surpasses other garages / mechanics I have gone to in the past. I am from NC and was visiting my niece and nephew and helping them find a trustworthy mechanic that could fix their '69 Ford Fairlane. Believe it or not, another garage actually referred my to Car Guy after I relayed my need to have an older car repaired. Said the Car Guy was known to have a great reputation and a complete shop which would probably be a better fit for my situation. My first impression of Wes was that he was a patient listener, focused and sensitive to my situation. He took initiative to keep me informed every step of the way and told me what they found in a detailed way that I could understand. He always looks for the best value parts (refurb or new) and presented me both -with a recommendation. It is a complete garage - having everything on site to address any situation. This place is trustworthy, has skilled mechanics and most importantly cares about the quality of their work and keeping their customers in a reliable and safe ride.
