I was out for a day of walking and shopping main street Chatham when my friend and I needed a place to eat. My father had recommended the Red Nun but we couldn't find it and didn't know it wasn't directly on Main street, so we stopped at the Captain's Table because the prices looked reasonable and they had an outdoor patio. The inside is small and run down, but the patio was nice. There wasn't a wait and it wasn't crowded but there were a few tables taken up. The waitress we had was also the one to seat us and was not very pleasant to say the least. She seemed irritated we didn't get an alcoholic drink, even though it was barely even noon. I ordered a mozz, pesto, onion panini that had prosciutto on it and asked for chicken instead, and she replied that the cook might charge and up-charge to do that.. I replied that chicken is much less expensive than prosciutto and to ask the cook because if that was the case I would order something else. She had been rude from the start but it only got worse after that. With it not being busy, I didn't think my request was anything out of the ordinary for her or the cook to handle. (The sandwich was still $10 which is high no matter which way you order it) Onto the food, I ended up getting the sandwich (with no up-charge) and it as average. My friend had chowder which she said wasn't great and a tuna melt which again was average. Probably wouldn't eat here again. Should have walked up the street a bit to the Red Nun instead. I know ordering a Cuban sandwich isn't what you do at the cape but it was on the panini section which was recommended. They used store bought panini bread that already had the grill lines on it for the Cuban and every sandwich. For the Cuban they used BBQ pulled pork and breakfast ham... like come on. The meal I had here was probably worth a solid 4 stars, but after paying Chatham prices with Chatham attitude this weekend, Captain's Table gets an affectionate 5! Decent prices, small little place (with small room character), and one of the most creative menus I've seen in a long time for a breakfast place. My wife's lobster and asparaus omelet had nice big chunks of lobster. My corned beef hash breakfast burrito was very good also. Hate to break it to you but this is a tourist trap. The other breakfast places were closed (it was Tuesday morning?) so we really had no choice but to go here. We were seated immediately, the server was nice enough, but everything else was not great. It took a really long time to get the coffee and water, so we ordered our meals when she brought everything out. The coffee came in teeny tiny cups and I finished mine in about 5 min and it took me about 10-15 before she came back so I could ask for more. Keep in mind we still don't have food. I am going to guess-timate and say it took a good half hour to get our food. When we finally got our food I was even more disappointed. My boyfriends mom and sister both ordered Eggs Benedict and the egg was cooked all the way through, no joke, it was basically a hard boiled egg! My breakfast burrito was more of a "wrap" than a "burrito" and I'm still not sure why there were sausage links inside of it? I mean.. it said it came with eggs, sausage, bacon, caramelized onions (there were none) , and cheese. So in my head I'm thinking everything is going to be cut up and scrambled in with the eggs. It was an interesting game of "take a bite without pulling everything out of the wrap". It tasted ok, but it wasn't anything special. The hash was really dry, but it had a lot of onions and I love onions so there's that? We got our check pretty quickly but I could over hear the table next to us who had been waiting for about 10-15 minutes for their checks. They were not happy. There were a lot of them and I think they were all doing separate checks, so yea that's going to take longer than 1 check but still it seemed like an outrageously long time to wait for a check. I wouldn't recommend this place if you are staying in Chatham, there are plenty of other great breakfast places to go to as long as it's not Tuesday Morning :) read more

Stopped in for an early lunch this week and were greeted with wonderful service and excellent food! Everything was spot on. One of us had a delicious breakfast burrito. The rest of us chose lunch items and all were perfect. The kids convinced us we needed to order the bacon cheese fries as an appetizer and together we cleaned the plate! read more

Nice staff! Try the swordfish burger. And you should definitely eat cole slaw. I'm living in a region,where you can get many different types of cole dishes. This was the best I've ever tried. And it is well suited for vegetarians,as they have around 3-4 vegetarian meals. read more

I got the lobster bisque which was mediocre, a Bloody Mary that was very unique. Only get it to drink if you enjoy lobster as it had some in it. I got buffalo chicken tenders and asked for a side of ranch. The waitress informed me they did not carry ranch dressing.. Very good lobster bisque and as previously mentioned, the bacon bloody mary was yum. The only downside was that dinner menu was not available until 5pm and we are early bird diners. Update: Decided to wait the hour for dinner. Glad we did. I had the daily pasta dish which was scallops, shrimp, olives and artichoke hearts over al dente fettuccini and a tasty sauce topped with goats cheese. Wonderful! DW had the ravioli special which was scampi with lobster. She enjoyed it very much. Bottom line; Come early, stay late. Stopped in for Sunday breakfast and ate on the outdoor patio. They have a brunch memo where we ordered pulled pork breakfast tacos which were delicious as well as a yummy homemade cranberry walnut oatmeal. The omelette with carmelized onions and other veggies were very flavorful and yummy as well. Last, the French toast as well was very good! Maggie was our server and she was very sweet. We were looking for a place to eat lunch and I thought it'd be a good idea to avoid downtown Chatham because I thought it would be poor quality and overpriced. We were very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Cute place, efficient and nice service, fair prices and excellent food. Had a semi-pleasant experience with this place. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich that was foul. My friends got the lobster Mac and cheese that they said was delicious. It was a good price for the area that it was in and the service was amazing. They only had sitting for a party of 4 people so we had to push two tables together and we're pretty far apart. I met a colleague for lunch at Captain's Table today. It was hot and sunny so we sat outside on the patio. The atmosphere was pleasant enough for a simple lunch. The service was slow for this type of restaurant that depends on turning tables instead of gourmet food. We both ordered iced tea and the jerk steak wrap daily special. The wrap had very little in the way of recognizable "jerk" flavor. I ended up asking for tabasco to add a little taste and heat. The wrap had very little steak, which was fine for me but at $10+ it was skimpy. The green peppers, mushrooms and onions were tasty and the tortilla uninspired. My colleague asked for no mushrooms, but was told that they were already mixed in to the wrap mix. The wraps came with an unoriginal offering of a bag of plain Lay's potato chips. All in all, this was an under-whelming meal and cost $28+ before tip- a little much for two bland wraps, two small bags of chips and two iced teas. While nearly every place in Chatham tends to be over priced, the Captain's Table was below par. read more

Me and three friends stopped in here for lunch yesterday... so dissapointing. We were so excited for lobster rolls, we were on the cape after all, and what we got was a bland, oddly textured, small pile of lobster salad on a lackluster hot dog bun with a few pieces of lettuce. One friend sent hers back,because a piece of lobster crumbled in her mouth. She requested a simple grilled cheese and tomato to replace it and the cheese wasn't even melted, but she felt bad for sending back her lobster roll so she just ate it anyways. 2 of my friends asked to sub fries for chips, and they probably each got a total of 10 fries for an additional 2.50 each. I asked for no chips and a side salad, which was an extra 4.50. Our bill for this sad meal, was $104 (including soft drinks and 2 beers). Which would have been fine, had the food not been so sub par. Wish I had Yelped this place before we went in. I feel bad giving such a bad review because the staff was really nice, and maybe we just got a bad batch of lobster salad, but I can honestly say, with all the other options in Chatham, I would never go back to the Captain's Table again. read more

My first visit to Chatham, a lovely, quaint downtown - I stopped in Captain's Table for breakfast, it was quiet, only a few other tables occupied. Not a very big place, but casual and comfortable, I ordered what I typically order for breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, home fries. You would think scrambled eggs are just scrambled eggs, but not here, these were the BEST scrambled eggs I have ever eaten, I don't know how they were prepared, maybe some delicious oil was used, but there was something different about them, maybe it was the cook, if so kudos to the cook. We were told that since everyone else was still ordering breakfast/brunch, the kitchen could not handle a lunch order. OK. We looked at the Sunday brunch menu and tried to order, but were told that half the brunch menu was not available until lunchtime (menu was a list with no marked distinction). Probably one of the friendlier places to eat in this town (won't mention names of establishments) but quite small only containing a small dining room and a small patio. Nothing fancy on the menu, an array of run of the mill sandwiches and cocktails and some entrees. Waitstaff is friendly and welcoming and fast on their feet. The only complaint here is the prices are a bit steep for a average sandwich and a bag of chips?? Couldn't figure out why I was paying 40 something bucks for two sandwiches and a two beers. About as old school as you can get. Specials posted outside looked good, prices were reasonable and it wasn't crowded. We were told they were out of the swordfish. OK, I get it- but it was 6pm! Pretty poor planning. So my wife orders a fussilli putanesca and the server asks if she wants cole slaw (wtf!?!?!) or squash (wtf2!?!?). Who even thinks of serving that with pasta? It was pretty good as I finished the large portion. I got a grilled sampler- shrimp, scallops and sword (I thought they were out?). Came on a skewer on top of old school rice with a single sprig of parsley. About as uninspired a plate I've seen. Worst part was the need to dash to the public toilet about 15 min. later. My friends and I were going to eat at another place called the lazy lobster but it was busy so we came here. I ordered a burger and all of my friends ordered off the brunch menu. I tried their cranberry pancakes. They were so delicious. The pancakes are so fluffy and the maple syrup is delicious. I thought these pancakes were the best I've ever had. The burger was really good. The caramelized onions were absolutely delicious. The only problem I had with this place was that they were not very accommodating. For example, my friend asked for pancakes without cranberries and they refused to make any modification at all. Overall the food that we tried was very good. It was a little expensive but that's how all food in Cape Cod is. I would definitely come back here just to eat the pancakes because they were that good. Please try them :) read more

Service was good...bunch of kids doing their best. 3 year old scarfed down the grilled cheese..dinner roll was good. Brother wanted to get chicken parm but I talked him out of that.
