Visited this restaurant as a recommendation from the welcome center. Big mistake! The waitress did not know the specials. The special shrimp on the appetizer list was a big disappointment. It was a frozen product, the crab and shrimp soup was not hot when it came out. Unable to find a waitress to have a warmed up, On the way out, We asked about the type of fish artifacts that were hung about the restaurant, the cashier stated," I couldn't be bothered even knowing about fish" The ambience of the restaurant was appealing, but would not return again when passing through the area. read more

Captain's Quarters was a very friendly restaurant and the food was delicious. The hostesses and our waitress could not have been more pleasant. I ordered the Salt & Pepper Catfish. Very tender and flavorful. (Tartar sauce accompanied, but the Catfish could be enjoyed on its own.) The dinner salad was fresh and the Parmesan peppercorn dressing a nice accompaniment. A basket of warm bread was also included. On a second visit, I enjoyed the Blackened Mahi Mahi. The accompanying Black Bean Salsa was a tasty plus. Recommend for travelers on I-95. read more

We ordered the mahi mahi and the swai almond encrusted fish. The mahi was dry and didn't have much flavor. The swai was soggy, like it was defrosted and undercooked. The flavor on the swai was good but I couldn't get past the slimy consistency. The service was excellent but we were underwhelmed by the food. The dining area was quiet and comfortable. We've eaten here before and enjoyed the food - maybe it was an off night. read more

I might have gone 4 stars, except for a couple of things. 1) Pre-shucked oysters never a good thing (On the re-used half-shell no less. See my picture showing oysters not even fitting on "their" shell!). They weren't bad, just not what you want when ordering oysters in a coastal state. 2) Mom's catfish was super oily (pools of oil on the plate), as in inedible oily, and was sent back (and taken off bill, so kudos). My broiled fish was OK. I forget the type. It was something I was not 100% familiar with, maybe Atlantic Salmon (don't hold me to that, but that's the idea). Service was good. Interior is dated. OK location if you are staying at the inn across the street. Oh, Yelp! map is a bit off. See my picture for location until Yelp! updates with my correction. Food was sub-ok on the seafood platter. 4 Shrimp were small, 3 scallops were small the piece of salmon was expected size. Not worth the $31 charge. What really galled me was the attempted surcharge of $2.36 for using a credit card. Merchants are exploiting customers by doing this trick. This is a cost of doing business and should not be extra money in their pockets. Just contributing to the inflation problem in the country. Noisy place due to being full of golfers. read more

My sister and I love seafood we've grown up eating seafood our entire life. She got a combination platter with scallops, hand battered shrimp, and swai fillet and I got the lump crab cakes --- Callie was our server and she was amazing! This trip was our second stop enroute to the Northeast (this time to Hatteras last week) and we really enjoy the restaurant. The staff was great, and very welcoming. The young fellow who served us was very happy to explain items. We had Prime Rib, Flounder, salads and sides, all of which were very tasty and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant and restrooms were all very clean and in good condition. We did notice a busperson wandering in a rear area of the dining room which was not occupied, and he was "twirling" his broom like a baton. Not cool over pre-set dining tables. Perhaps a bit more one-on-one sanitation training may be needed. All in all, another good experience here! read more

DELICIOUS!!! Oh my!!! The Swai with crab meat, shrimp with a touch of Alfredo sauce was so beautifully prepared I had to taste it. After tasting it I could not stop. It was delicious and before I realized it I had eaten my whole dinner. So I had no photo to share other than an empty plate. I have only eaten at this conveniently located restaurant a few times and there is a good reason for that. The ambience is fine and waitstaff is nice and friendly. Six of us had the great fortune of staying in Santee October 19-26. This area makes a great jumping-off point for visiting Charleston and Savannah. On our last night, we made a group decision to try Captain's Quarters and what a good decision it was. From the welcoming decor to the friendly hostess as soon as you enter, this place is a hidden gem. The food was delicious and more than adequate as far as portions go. The best part was our server, Zach. He was extremely helpful in recommending items from the menu (the jambalaya was awesome). Zach has a true insight of what to recommend based on the customer's questions. Speaking of customers, I noticed several couples (regulars??) asking to be moved to Zach's section. He is very interactive and can easily carry on a conversation with everyone at the table. His humor made the evening complete. Most of his jokes were dry, but clean and not offensive. Zach is an absolute blast to have as a waiter and I highly encourage anyone looking for an overall treat for dining to drop by Captain's Quarters (recommend making a reservation) and ask to be seated in Zach's section. read more

I'm in a golf trip with my husband and two teenage boys. And, when we got here yesterday, the group was starving. We thought we go to closest place, the Lake House, but it was closed, even though it said it was opened. So, we drove across the lake into Santee, SC. We found a gem called Captains Quarters Seafood and Steak. I forgot to take pics but the meals were delicious. My sons' shrimp scampi and salmon had wonderful flavor. My husband had shrimp and scallops imperial also a good choice. I chose the ribeye steak which was also flavorful. The best part of course was the Southern hospitality. The kids were so amazed how nice everyone was. Just an FYI, reservations are probably the way to go. They almost turned us away because we did not have one. Lastly, the $6 wine was filled to the rim. The restaurant is lovely when you see it, when you walk in it seems lovely. However the food represents another story. So it's $65 for filet & lobster tail. Please!!!! Ridiculous, so I ordered a chop steak ~ and it was a hamburger with no bun. And I paid 3 Dallor's more for it than my husband paid for his burger. To have it over cooked and to be charged full price for everything even tho I explained I asked for medium and the steak ( lol burger) was well done. Nothing was taken off the bill, nobody came to say they were sorry. They know their usualls and if you are not it, it does not matter what they do to your dinner. And to think we chose our hotel due to this restaurant. When I stated that to the waitress "sam" that they charged us for Everything including my lousy dinner she said I gave you his coffee for free. Oh yes that makes a difference. Never came back to our table never said thank you, just barely said good night. Just keep this in mind when you eat here. And the food, not so great. Should have eaten at Wendy's at least you get what you pay for. read more

There is a very full menu of wonderful choices (try the fried green tomatoes, the haddock fillet, shrimp & grits and jambalaya). The other thing that is amazing is how well the staff work as a team. My wife and I stop in Santee every year and always try to have dinner at the Captains Quarters. We start off with the crab & lobster bisque then split a prim rib dinner. We were here Saturday evening, the service was good for getting in with no reservation. Our waitress was a bit slow moving and soft spoken. No water came until the meal was over and we asked. The app calamari was good and very small, skip this not worth the money. The shrimp and grits was very good, would definitely get that again. Overall, I liked the place and hope to try again. It was hard finding a spot open on a Tuesday! This was a lucky find! The food was excellent & our waitress was super sweet. I got the best shrimp & grits I've had in a long while, perfectly done from the creamy grits to bacon wrapped shrimp! Husband got fried catfish that was fantastic & daughter got grilled Mahi also fabulous! Youngest loved her wedge salad, even with blue cheese crumbles! Middle thought her Chicken Parm & pasta was best she'd ever had! (Better than Olive Garden she claims!) We have always enjoyed the ambiance of the Captains Quarters. There is some wonderful golf memorabilia in there, numerous small rooms and a quaint bar area. The prime rib, when you can get it, is fabulous.Go early for this or call ahead to check. This time, we were somewhat quizzical about a few dishes. We ordered oysters as an appetizer. These came on a platter, ice cold but no shells. We had to ask for crackers, horseradish sauce,and hot sauce. Kind of strange serve style. They were okay but missed the briny treat of service in the half shell. My husband ordered flounder, broiled. Now, remember, flounder by itself is a fairly bland fish unless stuffed or blackened. Needless to say, although cooked well, it was small and he was disappointed but not the fish's fault. It just requires a bit more flare. I saw lobster and filet listed as a special for the night and so, ordered it. Lol, next time, I'll ask how much is the "special". I got the bill and discovered my 6 oz filet and maybe 4-5 oz lobster tail were $65! Okay, they were really good but really? Our waitress was sweet but I think, new at serving. We weren't even done with half the oysters and there was our main course. She forgot the salads and they came mid main course. She was very contrite and apologetic and I explained, there was no problem since my sister in law was from France and eats the salad at the end of the meal. I think she just needs a little more time. All in all, the restaurant was packed but food still came out hot. Just a few quirks but not enough to keep us away. We will try for earlier times. read more

Restruant is located next to Best Western hotel. You walk right to it. Staff was very friendly as soon as they greeted you at the hostess station. We waited in the bar for a table. Asked to eat in the bar. Gwen was very apologetic not to be able to serve with the short staff. We totally understood. Very hard to get good help after the pandemic. The bartender, Pam was the best. She made a great drink and was able to serve us herself. The menu had a great choice on entrees and very nice specials. I had the almond crusted grouper with a baked sweet potato. It was excellent. The atmosphere is excellent and the wait staff is very pleasant. With that said, the food is mediocre, not good, not horrible. I had calamari...it was cooked right but the breading is kinda run of the mill beer batter like. The salad was prepared in advance and was eatable. I had fried shrimp, which again was ok but still had a lot of oil on it, same with the fries. The cocktail sauce is lacking. The price is OK for a dinner. If you are looking for something other than fast food, this place will give you that in atmosphere....maybe I expected more as the establishment has a great look...unfortunately, the food didn't live up to expectations. read more

The place was very busy but got my mom and I in over at the bar area after a few minutes. My mom had the blackened flounder and I had the prime rib special with blackened shrimp!
