We were impressed by all of the signs on the doors about following CDC guidelines, and seeing the staff in masks as we entered. However, our first table was behind another couple. This was too close for comfort, so we asked to sit elsewhere. We were taken to a side room, where a party of 7 was seated next to the table we were given. We didn''t have the presence of mind to ask for a table farther away, & across the room. We're we being punished for asking to be socially distanced? We sat and ordered, keeping our masks on until our salads & fresh bread were brought to us. Our waitress was personable, attentive, and efficient. We had a lot to choose from, as the menu was extensive, including four daily specials. I ordered the angel hair pasta with salad and garlic bread. Husband got popcorn shrimp with salad and fries. The salad was crisp and delicious. The bread was not warm, but tasted good. The spaghetti was good - I'm glad it was more bland than spicy since my stomach is sensitive. The garlic bread was average. Husband enjoyed his steak fries and popcorn shrimp - no leftovers. However he mentioned that he could have prepared the same meal at home using items from the freezer. He also makes better spaghetti and sauce - but we were on vacation and not home. Our bill was only $36 (just one drink), but we ordered two of the least expensive items on the menu. We've been through Santee many times but never ate here. What a shame because it was great! Nice menu and served with southern hospitality. There's a bar for more casual eating but we ate in the dining room. I had the full flounder served with baked potato and coleslaw. My husband had the salad with salmon which was done perfectly. We were spending the night in Santee on our way home. There are not many choices of non- fast food restaurants. After reading the reviews I was a little nervous but pleasantly surprised with our experience. We called for a reservation, which was a good thing as they were very busy on a Saturday night. Definitely a locals place. We received excellent service. We both ordered the chopped steak with a side of grits. The meat was cooked a perfect medium rare and the grits were very good. It comes with a side salad that was pretty average. They were out of the fried green tomatoes so we ordered the fried shrimp appetizer with jalapeños and cheese- very tasty. read more

The Captain's Quarters was recommended to us by our fishing guide and confirmed as a good place to try by Yelp. We went with out a reservation and had a half hour wait for a table in this crowded restaurant. They were seating indoors only on this Tuesday evening. We ordered an appetizer of fried green tomatoes which took me back to memories of my youth when mom would fry up all the garden tomatoes which hadn't turned red before the first frost. My wife had the Jambalaya special which she really enjoyed. I had broiled shrimp which were just okay but they were from Louisiana since the local shrimp were not in season. Our server Nancy was as efficient as she was charming. Even the young lady who bussed tables was amazing in how quickly she cleaned and prepared a table for the next party. Yelp users have done it again! Due to the favorable reviews we had dinner here last night. The interior is like a Southern home with inviting fireplace. We started off with Old Fashions and then the California Cobb salad for Mark which I also had intended to order until saw a serving of their homemade lasagna, and ordered that for myself. Both were delicious. We ended our feast with Blueberry Cheesecake and Bourbon Pecan Pie. The BEST pecan pie I have ever eaten. This is a must destination if you're near Santee, SC. read more

We stayed in Santee on the way south and back north this past weekend. We went one night and arrived just after opening and saw the special chalkboard and decided on the surf and turf. Well they were out of filets already so I had the 2 lobster tails and hubby had the lasagna. He said it was quite good. My lobsters were perfectly cooked which I appreciated. Sometimes they can be overcooked but not here. I had the salad and loaded potato as sides. Our server was Burgess and she did a great job. On the way back we came on for dinner and I had the bacon wrapped shrimp and grits which was delicious! Hubby had spaghetti and meatballs. Both were real hits. The pumpernickel bread is a real plus and was warm and appreciated. We decided to split a banana split for dessert on the recommendation of our server Gypsy. She was a real pleasure and we enjoyed talking with her. All said we will be back when we are in the area! read more

They are luck to get a 1 star. I went into this restaurant since it was recommended to me while staying at a nearby hotel. I placed an order of chicken parmigiana to go. The chicken was so dry that I decided to bring it back. The owner first said it was like that because I tried cutting it with a plastic fork???? REALLY???? That does not make it dry! She then said sometimes it's precooked and might have dried out. Hmmmm.... If you spend $30.00 for chicken, you should be able to think it's cooked fresh!!! They replaced it and it looked good so I took it. Guess what.... STILL gross with overcooked pasta. The only decent thing in this package is the bread stick which was probably a frozen one. We tried to eat here a few years ago on our travels but it was closed. Today we tried again as we passed through Santee. I was a little concerned at first because the decor is literally every restaurant I have eaten at with my parents as a child. I asked RJ and he felt the same.But it appeared all of Santee was here. Eve was our server and she was awesome. I ordered moscato and the almond crusted grouper special. RJ ordered crab cakes, and the peeps had a cheese burger and blackened shrimp. Everything was fantastic. My grouper was really juicy and just so good. It was a huge piece with a tasty almond crust with asparagus on the side. The burger was clearly hand formed and the shrimp and crab cakes were cooked perfectly. The interior definitely needs some updating, but good food,good service, good find. read more

First of all Lisa was an awesome waitress !!! The food was good, a bit pricey for what we are used to and what you got. The portions were perfect but pricing would have left you wanting to take some home. The descriptions were more elaborate than what was exactly presented. I had shrimp and grits and yes, it tasted great but I expected more sausage and cheese. My husband had the mahi and again he expected more to it - it was border line over cooked. We were there for almost exactly and hour but felt like so much longer because we were truly relaxed.
