Hard, oily French fries good in old grease and undercooked shrimp batter falling off. overcooked hush puppies. French fries are not edible.

I specifically ask not to fry my food hard. Shrimps: undercooked batter mushy and not attached to shrimp Fish: okay but smaller than the original owners French fries; HORRIBLE. They were hard... full of old grease and- could not eat them Hush puppies: hard/over cooked like the fries Cole slaw: not a full container. New owners dnt know how to prepare food for the public. This is bad. I should have knew better once I walked in but I traveled far to this place. Very disappointed.

Short review Terrible fries. Questionable atmosphere including a an open metal trash can that looks like it's from a New York alley plus no bathrooms. Out of Fried Chicken which is a substantial part of their menu Very nice wait staff, the fish was very well done. See below for more details My daughter, grandson, and I decided to stop in. When you open the door to Captain K's you're greeted with a straight line counter on your left that's mainly full of microwaves, giant jars of banana peppers, croutons, and other things that they're actively cooking with. On the right you've got a set of six bench tables. There's lots of paintings on the walls and a bright ocean color scheme. The air is full of oil as there's no separation between the fryers and the seating area. They also have multiple chalkboards on the walls where they've written a la carte items, combo items, and other things that they don't have on their actual menu. So if you're going to order make sure to look beyond the menu to at least three chalkboards scattered through the restaurant. There were no kids meals. My daughter and I decided on Fried Chicken but at 1:00 on a Sunday they were out. no plans on making more. This was disappointing because it was the only non fish item other than shrimp. The side items offered were four types of potatoes, mac and cheese, coleslaw and potato salad. My daughter decided to order two pieces of Whiting as fish and chips. I ended up being uninspired by the menu and decided not to get anything. There are no bathrooms. Wait staff were very friendly. They connected with us and seemed to be nice people. Some pretty good singing along with the radio Food took about 15 mins to cook, not too long to wait. The fries were terrible. Although hot, they were soft and under cooked - that mealy feeling of potato that wasnt internally cooked enough to have some fluff. It didn't help that the fries made my grandson cry. He looked so tricked when we told him it was a fry and handed it to him. he held it in his hand, cried, and threw it. That sort of encapsulates our overall feeling of the fries The whiting was very good. Nice thick sandwich. The lettuce was fresh, crisp, and a generous portion. Easily the best part of going here which is important since it was the main entree.

This place was pretty good I definitely can't complain considering the pricing and portions

I wasn't sure exactly what Captain K was serving up prior to me venturing over there, so I decided to put some pics on Yelp to update it, and post a review. It is 'hidden' right at the corner of Princess Anne and Lynnhaven, in the Hardees/Goodwill shopping center. Small 'dine in' area, but alot of orders go as take-out. Simply put, Captain K's is a quick-prep seafood place. At lunchtime, they have specials that are in the range of $5.00, (Fried Shrimp + french fries) (Fish and Fries) (Chicken, fish and fries), etc. This is the place you go to get seafood quick and cheap, when you don't have the time or the money to eat at a sit down place like Georges or Red Lobster. I ordered up a "Fish, Shrimp and Fries" combo. The Shrimp are good sized shrimp! Very good. The fish was pretty thin, that I didn't care for as much. The fries are just the frozen krinkle fries. The Hush-puppies are okay, but not spectacular. What I forgot to order and try out was the "Catfish". I am from the south, so that is a must for me to try. There are some days I want to take my wife out for a sit-down meal, and there are other days when I want some low priced shrimp in ten minutes! On days like that when I am in a rush, I will stop back in at Captain K's for more of those Deep Fried tasty shrimp.

The place is huge and I'm ashamed to say I thought it would just be crappy but I was totally blown away by the food the size of the place the waitresses were pretty good. There was one or two that we called a couple of times and just they walked right past us and one had the audacity to say "it's not my department" she deliberately walked right by us and she was a waitress no less so another waitress saw that and came and helped us and I know (because I was a waitress myself once years ago) that it gets busy and crazy but at least say to the customer paying the $25 per person that I'll be right with you. Don't just walk right by the customer tables! Back to the food... the king crab legs are delicious, but mine were cold and not completely cooked. The new waitress actually went and got me some more hot cooked crab legs but the other food was amazing, too. Everything in there was amazing. I actually walked out of there and I was very impressed and a "happy camper"!!! King crab legs are only served from Friday to Sunday evening. I believe that if anyone goes in the Ocean Grill & Seafood restaurant you'll also come out very impressed. AREAL IMPORTANT thing I'm going to point out to everyone is that they are one of a very few open bars who actually keep up with replacement of all the food sitting on the bars for the customers and I LOVE that and I certainly hope they keep it up without raising their prices. p. s. The ambiance in this place is casual and laid back and I love that too. Who wants to eat all dressed up to eat finger foods NOT me!

It's best to separate your food, because seafood and sushi cost more. So separate your boxes because it adds up quickly. Put regular items in one box and the more expensive stuff in another. They had crab legs, shrimp, chicken, sushi, Mongolian bbq, rice, fruit, ice cream, and more. Some of the food looked like it had been sitting a bit. But the selection seemed nice. Normally I stick to the same foods to be safe, because I'm slightly picky. The rolls are the best thing there. They're so soft and buttery. The chicken wings were bland but still ok. They were battered and fried good. The coconut chicken was ok, but if you have texture issues it'll get the best of you. The Mongolian bbq was pretty good. They have thin slices of meat, veggies, eggs, and sauces. Then the gentleman cooks it on the grill in front of you. That dollar makes him holler honey boo boo, so make sure to tip him!! Lol. 2 plates cost $30+ so I was a little bit like dang. Because I was being very cautious of what I got to stay under my budget. But my budget had already said bye Felicia! Lol. So I got over it. The staff is friendly and I like all the options they have. I don't see me returning for the buffet anytime soon, but I'd go back for the Mongolian bbq. Check them out!!

My most recent visit here was on January 23, 2026. I've seen this place several times as I have gone with my mom to Hobby Lobby. It caught my attention again to try this place when they were listed as a part of the 2026 Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. This is what ultimately got me to get in and try them out. The outside of the place is similar to other places next to the business, but they are very easy to spot. On each of my visits here, I didn't encounter any issues with parking and such, so there seems to be ample parking available. When my mom and I first came in, we were immediately greeted and were able to get a table immediately. I wasn't sure what it would be at first since I saw stuff about reservations. This first visit was on January 21, 2026. Once we were seated, our server came to the table to ask us what we wanted to drink. I did the water with lemon, and my mom went for a Coke, though the Coke never came to the table during this first visit. In the end, that was no big deal. Since we were here specifically for the restaurant week, we stuck to that menu that evening. For the appetizer, I went with the Picanha Empanadas. For the main entree, I went with the 8 oz Filet Mignon with Green Beans and Queso De Mano as my two sides. For the dessert, I sure did go for the Rum Crème Brulée. My mom ended up doing the same thing on this first visit. A few minutes after ordering, the Empanadas came to the table. This came with an olive mayo chimichurri for dipping. The empanadas and the chimichurri complemented each other very well. The taste was amazing too. A few minutes before the entrees would come out, our server came over and put some hot sauce and chimichurri sauce at the table to use. When the entrees came out, they looked really good, and they were hot, so it took a few moments to start. I started with the green beans, and they had such a great flavor to them. By the time I finished that, it was time to indulge in the Filet Mignon. I had ordered it on medium, and it was cooked perfectly. This is not something I have often, but this was awesome. The flavor paired with the chimichurri sauce made it an enjoyable entree. I finished off the main course with the Queso De Mano cheese. This was a very flavorful cheese. The last course was the Rum Crème Brulée. It was quite the surprise when the server came with a blowtorch to go over the top of the dessert. This dessert was the ultimate indulgence for me as I don't normally do these types of foods. The experience was so good that we decided to come back a few days later, on January 23, 2026. I would end up getting the same set of items since it was still restaurant week, but we also ordered the Guacamole appetizer since we were there during happy hour. The chips and guacamole were amazingly good. You can tell it was made fresh. My mom got the Picanha Burger this time. I can say she really liked the burger. Overall, these were two excellent experiences during the restaurant week. The food and service were great with no major issues. One thing I want to note is that they do charge a 3.5% fee if you use a card to pay instead of cash. If you're looking for a unique type of steakhouse, this place is absolutely worth checking out.

We had three servers approach our table to get our drink order until one of the three settled on being our server. Odd. I ordered their Filet Mignon and it came with two sides. I picked boiled yucca and asparagus. (Note: Asparagus and Green Beans were the only vegetable option.) They seemed to have a dedicated staff for delivering food to the tables, but they brought the wrong order to our table at first. Thankfully, it was a quick turnaround for the right order. We may have waited fifteen minutes tops for our food after placing our order. Not bad for a busy place. I got my steak rare (the only way to eat a steak) and it came out perfectly. It even had hints of flavor from the grill. Know what I mean? My yucca was okay. Not excited about the pickled onions on top (it didn't say that on the menu) which I scrapped off. It was seasoned lightly with butter and salt. My asparagus was crisp and delicious. Anytime I cook it at home it gets mushy, yet theirs was spot on. The restaurant itself was a bit dark inside, and decorated with a country-western vibe. (I remember when it was a karaoke bar, RIP!) The service could have been better, but their food is a good enough reason for us to return.

Unfortunately, that visibility only highlighted several concerning hygiene practices. One cook had extremely long locs that hung past his waist and wasn't wearing a hair net, while the other staff member was properly covered with gloves, apron, and a hair net. Even so, no one washed their hands after moving between tasks--handling raw items, pulling food from the fryer, and even touching the register. The most alarming moment was when a customer walked in from outside, went straight behind the counter, began talking loudly near the food, and was never asked to wash her hands, put on gloves, or step away. This was extremely unsanitary and should never happen in any food establishment. As for the environment, the floors and counters didn't look clean, and the setup leaves customers watching every misstep with no separation between prep and front area. Definitely some health department red flags. On a positive note, the food itself was cooked well--I ordered fish and fries, and the other item was a fish sandwich. Prices were reasonable, but overall the sanitation issues overshadowed everything. This is not a place I plan to revisit.
