I had the veggie plate with butter beans (they were a bit sweet and limas, not true butter beans), fried squash (the slice it long ways and hand batter), spinach mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs (delicious, no notes). I tried both hush puppies and a roll. Personally, the hush puppies weren't my favorite, but the roll was buttery goodness:). Most importantly, I asked our server at the beginning if they still had chocolate cobbler and if they were running low to go ahead and bring it out. At first they had plenty, but a few minutes later cobbler was in front of me because she noticed it was running low. So dessert first! Don't mind if I do:) it was warm, gooey, and delicious. Others in my group had the chicken fried steak, and chicken tenders. Everyone was very happy with their meals! Service was great, though the kitchen was a little slow. It took about 30 mins to get our meals. Fun, old timey atmosphere - great service - and delicious home cooking. Will definitely be back.

As soon as you're seated, you'll have a tempting signboard presented at your table with every southern classic you can imagine. With entrees like fried chicken and catfish, endless sides like turnip greens, white beans, and just about anything you can imagine fried, and every kind of southern pie, it's all there. The catfish is magnificent, with that wonderfully gritty cornmeal batter surrounding flaky, tender fish. The complimentary roll is also delicious! And the servers are very nice here! But there are some downsides. The fried okra, my favorite southern side dish, is actually soft and soggy. No self respecting southerner would ever make soggy fried okra. It's about the worst I ever had. And the onion rings, which are hard to mess up, were burnt black and lacked flavor. They were inedible. The cashier is rude and doesn't have time for "thank you" or small talk or a smile or even giving you your receipt when nobody else is in line to pay their bill. That's just how it is. If you want good catfish, Sling Shot Charlie's will come through. But if you want a southern culinary experience that's enjoyable, there are much better places to have it!

The…read moreservers are attentive, friendly, and professional -- they genuinely do their best to create a positive dining experience and deserve recognition for their efforts. Some items on the buffet and from the kitchen fall short of expectations. For example, the prime rib was extremely tough and difficult to chew, and the lasagna was overly salty without much depth of flavor beyond that. The soups also tend to be very salty and appear hastily prepared. Several dishes seem overcooked or assembled without much attention to presentation. That said, there are highlights. The salad bar is excellent -- fresh, well-stocked, and consistently clean. The made-to-order bread is outstanding, and the pizza is quite good. The overall restaurant is clean and well-maintained, and many customers appear satisfied with their meals. With stronger attention to seasoning balance, preparation quality, and presentation, this restaurant could significantly elevate its dining experience. The foundation is there -- especially with such strong staff -- and improving the food quality would make it truly stand out in the Oakland, Tennessee area. The owners don't seem to care because they making money is my guess.

The "catfish" is not catfish at all. It is swai. Overall mediocre at best. The saving grace from a 2 star was the server. She did a good job. I have ordered take out and pizzas to go before so maybe that the better way to go.

I came with a friend and my mind and tastebuds were on steak... they didn't let us down. The apps we had we fantastic too. The bread and cheese player we ordered opened our eyes to delicious combinations of blueberry jam (which they make there) with a creamy cheese, that I wish I can remember the name of, then drizzled with honey they source locally! The bite was heaven. Then the dinner came. The beef tenderloin presented so beautifully and tasted so much better. The mushroom sauce was perfection with finely balanced flavors. Then I paired it with an Earthquake Cab, . Chef kiss!! Everything was absolutely memorable and enjoyable. One thing they could do to add to the ambiance is blocking the headlights of cars from shining into their restaurant. There are simple things that can be rolled out in front the restaurant to assist. But even with the lights shining they are the best thing I've had in a long time.

The tacos were delicious but the name is misleading. My husband thought it would come drizzled in some kind of spicy sauce given the name, but it was just chicken, cheese and onions. It was still really tasty though. I had the rice and while it was well seasoned, it lacked something else. I think a creamy sauce would knock this dish out of the world. If I ever order it again, I'll be sure to request a cream based sauce, or order a side of sour cream. The service was fast but we also came during a time where they didn't have crowd. If you're dining in, your order will come with a bottle of salsa verde and a bottle of spicy red salsa. Also, the music was great at the time we went, they were playing bachata and it took everything in me not to get up and dance. I'd recommend this place and plan to return. Oakland needs more variety like this little gem.
