Unfortunately, we've not been able to try the fare to see how it measures up. Upon arriving, after a brief wait, we were seated and provided menus including specials. Out server, Mitchel was quick to arrive and offer drinks or appetizers - we asked for a moment to look over the menu. Neither the hostess nor our server mentioned menu items that were unavailable and, despite the menu having prices and notes updated with grease pen, upon asking for one of the seasonal specials, were advised it was unavailable. It was priced at $47.99 for one pound of blue crab plus two pounds of additional seafood/sausage. We were directed to the closest other 3# option (since we were looking at sharing for two) but that option was significantly pricier - $65, or the $34.98 option which was half the amount of food. We asked for the manager and explained that we'd like to have a compromise as it was not appropriate to not explain to customers upon seating that an item was not available. I also explained that the hostess could have indicated, the waiter could have indicated and the restaurant could have easily placed an "X" through the menu item (those grease pens work just as well for prices as marking an item) His reply was to repeatedly indicated "but its seasonal and we don't have it" Then his suggestion was to order individual items (no crab at all, shrimp/clams/sausage would be cheaper than the $47 bundle) rather than coming up with a solution. According to both the waiter and manager "there's not a way to change the combos in the system" I feel like this place does a bait and switch - off items not on the menu for a "good deal" them not have it so they can convince you to spend more. We offered to pay for our soft drinks (which the manager did waive) and we left. It's a shame that we didn't even have a chance to expand our date night options but Captain Crab needs to reevaluate how they serve their customers and how they address menu updates to present an experience that will value patrons. Took the family to celebrate a birthday at the Clovis location. The atmosphere was wonderful. The restaurant was very clean. I loved all of the nautical decorations. The wait staff were incredible. Ordered 1/2 lb of headless shrimp , to my surprise they were not peeled and was a little bummer (medium spicy wasn't spicy at all). I got some shrimps yesterday were absolutely disappointed. A couple of the shrimps were spoiled and smell incredibly fishy to the point that I almost feel like throwing up after biting into it. My husband ate some and we are both feel nauseous all night. We have eaten here a good 5-10 times and this was the one time that will prevent us from ever coming back. It was kind of traumatizing. I got a regular seafood boil. It was cold when it arrived to my table, and the garlic butter sauce was not flavored whatsoever. It tasted watered down, if you could even water down butter. There was crab legs, sausage, and shrimp and one boiled egg, and potatoes and corn.. out of all of that... MAYBE the shrimp was OKAY. the crab was alriiiGHT. it was very little meat inside. bay bay ah crab. and don't get me started on the sausages. i'm not sure WHAT kind of sausage it was, but the casing on it was tough and would fall off when I took bites out of it. Potatoes and corn were probably the only normal thing. I had a cup of ice and sink water as my drink. The only thing I genuinely liked was, the fact I could dispose of my shells, into a trash can bucket. It was an OKAY meal. but not the best seafood boil around in Fresno. Now, as I'm walking out, I got thee WORST stomach pains. I feel like all that food is just floating around in my stomach acid right at the top of my gut. Hands down the best seafood boil place I ever been to. Went there this Saturday night with 3 friends, the whole restaurant is pretty much filled up, however, we didn't need to wait too long to be seated. We ordered the family special with snow crab and shrimp to share, got that captain special seasoning with medium spicy and it was so good and flavorful! We ended up order another pound of shrimp. Super super super good. I had the low county boil. Volcano spicy with the captain mix. Spiciness was pretty prefect. I'm someone who loves crazy hot things and captain crab's most spicy option def brings the heat. The heat felt similar to the heat from serrano peppers. The meal could def feed two people or 1 very hungry person. I couldn't quite finish it all myself. The staff was kind, and the water tasted good too. My fingers still smell like crab boil and that's a bit awesome lol ( I did wash them with soap too) They also have a large selection of fried foods too. The fried catfish looks interesting.
