Dropping our daughter off for the start of her junior year at Baylor University we were in the mood for a burger so I quickly yelped for burgers in the Waco area and this place popped up! Intrigued by the reviews I read we decided to try it out! Only a few miles from where we were staying I punched the address in my GPS and we were quickly there! The decor reminded me of a diner in the fifties and the friendly smiles that greeted us made the experience much nicer! Touted as the best burger in Waco I would have to agree although I haven't tried the competition! The burgers were rather generous in size and the combos are served with either tater tots or fries and a drink. After ordering we didn't have to wait long for our order and they were really good I must say! I was so immersed in the experience of eating and talking with our good friends who were also dropping their son off I didn't get a chance to snap any photos but the current photos tell the story pretty well! This restaurant has a great atmosphere and very friendly employees. I had a chicken sandwich with regular fries and my boyfriend had a Whizzbang burger with waffle fries. The fries are some of the best I've ever had! So delicious! The chicken sandwich wasn't anything to write home about but the burger was pretty good. What's even better is that they have malts and shakes made with Bluebell ice cream. The sweet tea is really good, too. The building is a little old but when you walk in you are welcomed by a cool atmosphere. The menu is nice and simple offering hamburgers, salads, and more. You can also add sides to your order like traditional fries which are very delicious. Prices are that compared to any other fast food restaurant. I went there on the "recomendation" of a couple guys that I know. MAJOR disappointment! Burgers were paper thin and not too tasty.The bacon on it was Stringy and really limp. The burgers looked Nothing like the ad pics. Certainly not even close to that thick and I'd say the pictured ones are borderline too thin at that. Won't be back. read more

First thing that hit me was the aroma when I opened the door, I told my daughter that is how a good burger place should always smell like! I really like their burger so much, brings back childhood memories. They also serve old fashioned sodas in bottles and they had bottle top opener attached on the wall. 7/7/14: Addition to previous review, I had complaint about their Texas Tops which are battered and fried jalapeno slices. They were sliced too thinly, over-fried, and flavorless. Today I ordered it again and was overjoyed to see major improvement to their texas tops, they were sliced much thicker and fried just perfectly. It had heat punch to every bite, served with ranch dressing. It was awesome and Im so happy. I will be ordering it again in future! read more

Continuing my Burger adventure in Waco. I found the burger to be very messy and sauted onions to be under cooked. I did not enjoy the battered fries. The burger was tasty but ended up finishing it with fork and knife. The bun has sesame seeds. It is now 3rd on my list of burgers in Waco. read more

Best burgers in town with excellent service. You walk in to a comfortable like-home setting where you are greeted by friendly staff. The burgers are made fresh and very flavorful and juicy. The sides are excellent too. The cajun chips are something you have to try. The fries are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. You order at the counter, but they take your meal to your table. If you want a good old fashioned burger with true customer service, then this is your place. Oh, and their prices are very reasonable. read more

We went to their spot in Union Hall and it was DELICIOUS!!! Limited menu there but it sure hit the spot. Plus the service was awesome.

I was very disappointed in one of my favorite hamburger establishments. We usually ordered a #1 for each of us. They were just over $8.00 each the last time I ate there about a couple months ago. We called there while in town on sat to order and were told they were now almost $23. for our two #1's. When I asked why there was such a higher price, I was informed that due to the present conditions they had to raise their prices. I asked if it was to take advantage if the current conditions? I can't believe any establishment would raise their prices when some people are struggling to make ends meet after possibly losing their jobs. So much for helping out our local businesses if they are going to act like this. I will miss the burgers and the ch fry stk sandwiches. The burgers were amazing, the fries were the best we've ever eaten and the fried dill pickles were off the charts delish. The joint -- and Captain Billy Whizzbang's is the epitome of a joint - is absolutely unappealing from the street -- but aren't all the really great ones? My five-star rating is all about the food. The burger is quite simply the tastiest I've had anywhere. I live in Arlington, Texas. The DFW area has literally hundreds of places to get burgers. Ft. Worth has its list. Dallas has its list. And, Arlington and the mid-cities all have their lists as well. I've tried them all. Captain Billy Whizzbang's is on a whole other level. I had their signature burger -- The Whizz-Pigg -- 1/3 lb. half ground bacon & half ground beef patty on a sesame bun -- Awesome! Impressed! A friend and I had looked up a few burger places in the area and came across this and decided to give it a shot instead of any of the chains. It reminds me of a old fashioned diner but with a divey feel to it. We were the only people in there because it was almost closed but it was really cozy and the staff was laid back and really friendly. We got the half ground bacon burger and a bbq burger, fries and milkshake and all were really delicious. Even the ranch was good and had a garlic hint to it. This is an absurdly long post for a little burger place but I had to express how nice the employees were and how yummy the food was. We are on vacation and traveling to the recommended places on the "Texas Bucket List" show of the top burger places in Texas. This one did not disappointment. My husband had a cheeseburger. The meat on the burger was juicy, fresh and plentiful. I had the Whizzpig which is a bacon and beef mixture. I was informed when I ordered it that the meat would look pink but it was cooked. They were correct. It was pink but it was really superb! Juicy with bacon all throughout the burger! Both were served with crispy fries. So good here! read more

This is my second time here, first time was just a few weeks ago (I know, in all my years here I've missed out on some great burgers, but now I know) Last time I went for a double/double and that was really good. Today I tried a Whizzpig which was a half ground beef/half ground bacon patty and it was awesome, subtle bits of delicious bacon in every bite. And the fries, so good, crunchy on the outside but you bite in and it's gooey soft. Ordered to go inside, and service was fast considering the place was packed with people and there was a long drive through line. The gorgeous girl at the counter has a great smile and always has been friendly. Overall, I recommend this place for some of the best burgers in town. Hi. It has been long since my last review and I would like to start 1st with why I gave a 3star rating. I had lunch at the trailer located at the Magnolia market and the wait was RIDICULOUS. I was the 12th person in line and it took the kid at the register 30 mins , yes 30 minutes to get to me. I understand the food can take its time but 30 mins a for 12 guests is NOT the service you'd expect. Then it took another 10-12 mins to get my order, so all in all 45 mins for a burger and fries. Not cool. Al though it seems they cook your burger when ordered, still 12 mins is Too much after a 30 min line ( of only 12 I remind you ). My mom did Two other lines and got the food from those two other places ( and ate) before I even got to order myself. The burger it self is worth 4-5 stars. I had the half-bacon/beef and it was absolutely amazing. The bun is good and warm , like it should be (shame to all other burger places that sell cold buns on their burgers...that is just lazy) and all the garnishing was fresh! Fries are also very good, crispy and hot. I almost forgot my bad experience after eating but it seems today was not my day. I had ordered my burger with cheese and jalapeños and yes, they forgot the jalapeños I PAID FOR!!! I was too hungry to go back and get them so I ate this delicious burger without the kick. I did go back to the truck after I was done to let them know of their error ( I told the kids on the side not to make a scene, wouldn't have been fair) and all I got was a nice "I'm sorry". To have stayed in business since 1977, Captain Billy must be doing something right. But the burger competition in Waco is fierce, and at lunchtime on a Saturday its large and relatively sterile space lacked the vigor and bustle of some of the other area burger dives. After all, it isn't on the circle. It doesn't have "oriental fries." And, it doesn't have the ambition of a thick, hearty patty. By all accounts, though, it's a good burger with thin patties, which is a perfectly legitimate variation on the burger theme. Actually, the burgers in the Yelp pictures have thicker patties and more character than the ones we received, which is a testament to their being homemade. Also, the menu has more variety than other places. They have turkey patties, bacon-mixed-with-beef patties, fried jalapenos, hot dogs, and even a few salads. read more

Food was on point! The meat tastes absolutely great! We had chili cheese tots/fries! Has real cheese and meat in the chili because I was sure expecting some chili and cheese from a convenient store... Nope! I was fooled! Now the burger, just scrumptious! Got the double double!
