I ordered my husband the shrimp lovers platter to go, which was the special. He loved it. All the shrimp was fresh & deveined. I had a stuffed shrimp & it was wonderful. We are here from out of town and I can honestly say it was awesome. Food was fresh and hot and the service was impeccable. Our waitress Andrea at the Main St location in Houston was spectacular. When to Captain Benny's last Thursday night. This is one of the more legit good seafood / nearly cajun places inside the loop. The oysters were in season and they were great. My buddy had the Shrimp po-boy and it really good and the french bread was the best part. Will definitely go back. Only thing that would make it perfect is if they served Abita beer. Not too shabby for a boat shack! The food was fast and overall pretty good. The service was great and very friendly! The oysters were really good but I couldn't tell much of a difference between the blue cheese and the parmesan oysters. Guy, the oyster man as Bennys was great. The oysters were delicious and reasonably priced! I'd recommend the alligator to start, and if you're not on a diet...the Boudin balls! Be patient, there are only two servers, but the oysters are fresh and delicious, the boudin is phenomenal, and the ambiance is one-of-a-kind. Plus, great prices! This place is not fancy, but the food is done right. I had the shrimp basket with the Cajun seasoning. They don't overdo it like some places, but added just enough spice to announce itself. We went for lunch today. I got started with a cup of seafood gumbo, and ordered the craw-fish etouffee. The gumbo was good as always. The etouffee was good. There was lot's of craw-fish in my serving. I was barely able to finish it. Anthony got a bowl of seafood gumbo, and thought it was outstanding. There were only three servers in this small restaurant, but it was still unacceptable how we were treated. We spent almost an hour waiting for our dish. It's fried, how long does it take to get that ready? We came in at 1:48PM and left at 2:40 PM after the reality hits us. They have a huge clock so you can actually time them. The server seemed busy when we came in, so we were patient for him to wait on us. Then 10min or so later, he asked the dude three seats down the bar, who came way after us, what he'd like to order. So I flagged him and gave him our order fast. Appetizer and soup came out slooooooooowly. Around 2pm, two ladies came and sat beside us at the bar, they got their food at 2:20PM. Okay, maybe it's taking them longer to get ours. Then the couple at a table behind us, who came much later (way after the two ladies) got their multiple entrees! So I flagged the waiter again and asked when our food is coming out. He says it's not even ready. Granted we're the only Asian people there, they just passed us by unless we flag them down. Everyone else gets attention, we weren't expecting much just a mere acknowledgement that we exist there. We sat in the bar for that reason! This is one mile away from where we live, but I'd rather drive far away for better service. read more

Was looking for an oyster bar on a Saturday night while visiting Texas. This place was soooooo good. I especially loved the Calamari.

The food here was Great! Living around North Houston I usually go to Captain Tom's. But let me say, hands down this restaurant may have just beat Captain Tom's. I order the captain's platter (catfish, scallops, jumbo shrimp, stuff crab, a small cut baguette, fries, and coleslaw). Let's say the food was good from beginning to finish. This was seriously one of the worst restaurants we ever got food from. My sister and I got takeout last night. They weren't that busy, but it took over 10 minutes for someone to take my order, and I was 1st in line. I got fried scallops and shrimp. The seafood was rubbery and tasteless. The only good item with any bit of flavor was the cocktail sauce. I paid about $25 for the food and threw most of it away. This food was TERRIBLE. I would only send an enemy there. read more

If I could give no stars that's what my rating would be. As soon as my boyfriend and I walked in we grabbed the closest third table to the entrance and it still wasn't cleared off, seemed like the drinks were there for awhile because there was a puddle of sweat on the table from the drinks, we sat there for about 5 minutes before a waitress came by to ask if we've been served and we weren't in her section so she still took our order. Then finally our actual waitress came by with one of our drinks, she said "here you go, I'll be back" came back with our other drink a minute later. Asked if we wanted anything and we told her we already placed our order with another waitress. We didn't get her name or a welcome to the restaurant from the waitress that we were sectioned in. We also ordered oysters but never got them because the kitchen seemed to be moving slow so we cancelled our order and after canceling our order our waitress came back to ask if it was anything to do with her and she would give us the oysters on the house if we stayed but we declined and asked for our ticket. After asking that she seemed attentive. But it was already too late. And it was not busy. read more

Wow, this place blew my boyfriend and I away, we found it because it was close to a house we are sitting while a friends out of town; the oysters we clean and fresh, the stuffed jalapeños were my choice, they were full of crab and shrimp and surprised both my boyfriend and I and then we had gumbo and a platter and cleaned the plates, after cashing out and completely stuffed we order another round of oysters...and the best micheladas you can find!!! read more

I'll keep this review short and sweet. Place is amazing , one of the few fresh oyster places in town. Ha bad oyster there and the manager brought us a brand new plate of them. Let me tell you, this place is ghetto as fuck, my daughter and I were extremely disappointed, not only with the customer service but especially the food. The server was clueless and could not get it together, he wasn't familiar with the menu or how the food taste and moved like a aimless slug. After waiting for about a 45 min wait for the food, my calamari came out to me cold and looked like toddler food. In other words it was not full size calamari. The stuffed jalapenos pepper balls were breaded in who knows what and tasted bland and horrible. The po boy came out with two catfish filets on a sub bun and the inside of the fish was brown so you know that means I may be sick tonight. Then after sending the calamari back everyone seemed lost, the lady that came out wanted to know why I was sending it back, after I said it was horrible and this was my first time eating there she said ok and went to get me a order of what my daughter was eating, after getting it home that's when I noticed the inside was brown and had no taste. To top everything off we left the money for the meal on the bar which the aimless server witnessed before finally leaving us with our togo bags that we had to bag our food on our own by the way with; and we proceeded to leave. Then out of nowhere a server or waiter or whoever he was yelled out of nowhere from across the place, "Ya'll paid??" The sever we had did not mention to him that we paid everyone in the place just stopped and watched us and waiting for our response. After I told the other aimless young man that the money was there on the counter and he went and grabbed it and counted it he replied "Yall good!" We left and will never return there again. We sat outside in the covered area which was nice and casual for a November evening. The Wait staff was nice and I could tell the restaurant was full of regulars. Went in this place to get oysters on the half shell. Walked in was greeted by a person behind the bar I seated myself and I just sat there and no one would wait on me. Another couple came in sat down and the guy from behind the bar waited on them and walked right by me made eye contact. Then he brought the couple there drinks and walked by me again. We had a terrible experience at Captain Benny's. The table where we sat was dirty with dishes still there. The table was never wiped and we had to remove the dirty items off the table ourselves. The food was terrible - the appetizer platter had some weird sage infused bread stuffing inside the jalapenos and the calamari & shrimp tasted old and rubbery. The seafood platter had fish that had virtually no seasoning and the broiled shrimp were rubbery as well. The other dish we had was the worst of all - no one liked it. Overall, it was very bad dining experience, the staff were harried --I only saw two waitresses and they seemed to be waiting on every table in the place. We left hungry and it was a total waste of money. In a city with so many great restaurants, I have no idea how this place has been open for so long. Go somewhere else - not here! read more

I LOVE CAPTAIN BENNY'S!!! I just ate there for my birthday and I know it's something I'll never forget. As soon as we walked in, it immediately felt like a family atmosphere.
