Ok, it's a Sunday evening... After 6. Kinda quiet and quaint. The staff is polite and friendly. My oysters were hot and crunchy. Several wait staff stopped by to see if everything was ok. That was nice. I got one oyster that tasted thick and bland. The rest were just the way I love them; brown and crunchy. I don't care for fries and bread any where I go, but they looked fine. My waitress paid more attention to the male customers; a little too friendly. I guess this tactic gets a better tip. One male customer had his left over packed for him but I was given an empty tray with a paper bag. Oops, there goes the tip! read more

Almost left when we drove up. Decided to give it a go based solely on good reviews. We ordered a 3-piece appetizer consisting of fried stuffed jalapeños, popcorn shrimp and calamari. Also, based on reviews stating this place has the best fried oysters in H Town, ordered fried oysters. Seriously? Best? Sad. Tiny little things rolled in some corn meal and fried. Please. Don't kid a kidder. I only give this place two stars instead of one because the stuffed jalapeños were pretty ok. Will not go back. If you are looking for a place to satiate your cravings for seafood and raw oysters quick, this is the place to go. The place is cramped and customers have to wait to get chairs to seat themselves. Menus are posted overhead, which is helpful for new customers to check what they serve. I love their gumbo and fried frog legs. The raw oysters were okay but cheap. I've never been a regular anywhere, and this place is the first. Marvin, our usual waiter, knows us by name and our kids love him. They carry different oyster varieties, year-round, and they keep them fresh and chilled. Also, you won't go wrong with the fried food. We've had everything from the scallops to the catfish. DON'T FORGET TO TRY THEIR GUMBO! The only bad thing I have to say about Captain Benny's is that the largest tables only accommodate 4 people. If you intend to bring a larger party, try to show when everyone's likely to get a seat together at the bar. The bar will definitely accommodate if the place isn't too busy. read more

I went here with a friend while I was in town for the Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows. I liked that it was near Reliant and convenient for both she and I to get to. I read good reviews online before trying this place out and I'm glad I went. The seafood was very good and the prices were reasonable. The waiter was very friendly. Plus, the restaurant is shaped like a boat. How can you go wrong? It was a great dining experience. I will have to go again next time I am visiting Houston. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. First, we waited 10 minutes before she even asked us what we wanted to drink. Then she comes back 10 minutes later and tells us there is no cups washed so it'd be a little bit. Then she comes back 5 minutes later and asks us if to go cups were ok and takes our order. 30 minutes go by and still no drink. Finally 35 minutes after our arrival we get our drinks and tell her that we want our food to go because the time is getting ridiculous. She takes our payment so we can't leave because of the ridiculous time. We ordered gumbo and a sandwich( the soup is premade and ready to be served) we wait another 20 minutes and tell them that want our food soon or money back. She says It's ready and then walks off again and doesn't get our food. 5-10 minutes later we leave with our food. This was especially an issue because we had to take a hotel shuttle to this place. Overall they ruined our dinner and seafood experience. Plus. The sandwich wasn't cooked all the way and the gumbo tasted like celery. Never again will I give this place my money. read more

HORRIBLE service! Patty was our server, first of all, she was rude from the beginning. We knew our food was going to take 30 minutes since it was very busy, we agreed to wait. But 50 minutes later, when I asked her if she could check on our order, she said im not allowed in the kitchen. Really? I told her there are people who arrived after us and she wanted to argue about what time the other customers got there...I couldnt believe it! I gave it 5 more minutes, and went to speak to the manager who really didnt do much for us except deduct drink charges. We had to take our order to go, since we were on lunch break. So, although the food is normally good, we had to eat soggy food back at work. The customer service was so bad to the point I will no longer go to this location. read more

My co-workers wanted seafood and chose Captain Benny's the food and service was good the price you paid was not worth it. We all had the Mate's Plate with a piece and a half of fish bout 12 french fries n the other sides you pick. Sorry to say I will not going back because it felt like eating a kids meal. read more

The front desk staff at our hotel told us how great this place was, so we decided to try it since it is in walking distance from our hotel. We were very disappointed in the food. The scallops and alligator tail were like chewing rubber. Everything we ordered was just like something that came straight off the frozen food truck and then dumped in a fryer. We were in the area and decided to swing by. We ordered a bowl of gumbo, oysters, crab fingers, and boudin. Gumbo, I didn't care for it. It was watery. I'm still sticking with Captain Tom's for that. Oysters were big and plump. My love said it was a little bland though, but it tastes good to me after putting on all the condiments! Crab fingers were ok but a little puny and didn't come with a dipping sauce. Boudin was big and spicy indeed. Still a little mushy to me but alright. I also ordered a little side of shrimp rice, too...nothing special but just needed a filler. Service was very good though. My loyalty is still with Captain Tom's though! read more

The place could be a little cleaner, but my favorite in Houston now. The seafood is awesome. Fried shrimp, boudin, gumbo, oysters and of michalatas; which I am growing more and more fond. Great gumbo. Specializes in mostly fried seafood. I ordered a combo platter that featured fried, stuffed and kabob shrimp. It's not a fancy restaurant but I understand why it has been around for years. They do home style (mostly fried) seafood very well. I will go back when I'm in Houston for business again. read more

This bustling boat has some great reviews so I decided to go with this place for my weekly cheat meal. Imagine: it's Friday, the beginning of lunch hour, 11AM, I've spent all morning 'yelping' this place out and staring at the menu, I was ready. I walk into the place, and while it is small, as some of the other yelpers mention- it is adorable! Bar and table seating; I walked in at ~11:15 and a man was already being served a plate! Needless to say, this place got busy fast- police officers, fire fighters, construction workers, scrub wearers, office personnel, such a nice crowd so early in the lunch hour, really gave me hope. Anywhoo, I ordered the broiled stuffed catfish, which came with "shrimp seasoned rice, coleslaw, and garlic bread". The best thing I had was probably the garlic bread. Don't get me wrong everything was semi-edible (I'll explain "semi"), just wish I had saved my 'cheat meal' for somewhere else. The food was utterly, disappointingly, bland. No spice, no mixtures of seasonings, no garlic, no onion, just very, very bland. The broiled fish seemed to only be fully cooked on the top, the bottom "layer" still had that translucent, clearish look to it, and was not thoroughly cooked at all, so there goes half my fillet. The "shrimp seasoned rice": there are different ways to interpret this menu item and after actually having the rice, my interpretation is that the shrimp IS the seasoning, meaning this dish is not shrimp IN seasoned rice- because nothing was seasoned at all. Moving on, the worst part of the rice, is that the shrimp are not thoroughly cleaned. Call it the weirdo in me, but it's just something about looking down at a plate of shrimp and seeing that dark "vein" that really turns my stomach. Ughck! In a nutshell: I will not be returning, the staff was exceptionally friendly and the place looked fairly clean, but for the price of the meal, I expected a "cheat meal" that was FAR more guilt-inducing, now I'm just sad. :-) Oh yea, and the coleslaw was not bad. read more

They have great shrimp fried rice...the seafood is better than average but the dishes could be bigger for the price paid.

After the Texans win, we had planned on going to the "other Cajun place " down the street from NRG Stadium. We found this gem of a place where the oysters on the half shell were fresh and delicious. We are here from out of town and I can honestly say it was awesome. Food was fresh and hot and the service was impeccable. Our waitress Andrea at the Main St location in Houston was spectacular.
