This is a perfect example of some place trying to be unique and maybe fancy, but completely failing on every possible level. I struggle to find a single positive to say about this place after my experience tonight. Of the 6 different dishes I tried they were all pretty much train wrecks. Crab cakes....soggy mush that completely fell apart. Pork belly.......poorly rendered leaving too much fat and strangely bland. Bone marrow......no acid and just a greasy mess. Pappardelle pasta was bland, shrimp were overcooked to the point of becoming had rubber bullets. Prosciutto wrapped chicken was pretty boring to say the least and the side dish of corn fregola was absolutely flavorless and the corn was clearly previously frozen. By FAR the most revolting thing was the flat iron steak which no joke all 4 of us at the table said tasted like movie theater popcorn "butter". No joke that was seriously what we all tasted. I am still nauseated and feeling like my gut is swimming in some butter flavored oil. Asking for anything took a ridiculous amount of time. Half the time it seemed our server had forgotten us and had some other guy checking on us. Even after asking for things it took 7-8 visits back and forth with other tables before he would bring what we asked for. Salt, bread, even water. After getting food we were not asked how anything was. His assistant was the only one who stopped by once or twice. Only when it was time to pick up the signed receipts did he rush over. Now on to the tab...... this was an an absolute joke. $260 for a meal for 4 and probably 75% went back because it was inedible. No attempts to resolve anything. In fact it was more ignore the problems and ask nothing. $5 for a Coke and $5 for every refill? Had I known that I would have told em where they could stick that can. Oh and we spit the bill and these geniuses somehow ended up charging all the wrong cards. I cannot say enough how completely disappointing an experience this was tonight. Everything was so bad I would have even been mad even if someone had come over (they clearly didn't) and offered to knock 50% off the bill. Absolutely nothing, other than the free bread now that I think about it, was even really edible. RUN AWAY!!! Run far away!!! read more

Had the most amazing time and the most amazing server. Joe made sure everything came out perfectly. We got a steak that was suppose to be rare and he made sure it was remade to be rare for us! We did show up right when they opened on a whim, if we hadn't without a reservation I do believe it would have been hard to get a table even on a Wednesday!! This little restaurant is located in downtown Redlands and usually requires a reservation in order to dine there. I first heard about this place from another coworker and wanted to give it a try. I don't even know how to start this review. I travel all over the world for work and I've eaten some really great food in amazing places, and this meal reminded me of so many of the best places I have visited. My wife and I came here for date night on a Wednesday evening, and even though we did not have a reservation, they promptly sat us on their elegant and romantic patio. First thing to note here is that their service is above outstanding. It really is the best service than I have experienced in quite a long time. The food certainly mirrors their service in all the best ways. We started with the heirloom tomato salad and roasted bone marrow. Both of these dishes were the best that we had ever had. That heirloom salad was incredible down to every last morsel, and the bone marrow was so creamy and seasoned to perfection! Our main entrees included the butternut squash risotto and spicy angel hair pasta with baby squid. The best squid I have ever had was on the beach in Lima, Perú...this squid reminded me so much of that delicious tender squid from Perú. The dish as a whole reminded me very much of some of the best Thai food from my traveling in and around Bangkok, Thailand. I could sit here all day and keep writing, but if you are looking for a fancy dinner to take that special someone out to and you want food and service that will transport you to another world, you really ought to try Carpice Café. My only one regret is that we've walked by this quaint restaurant hundreds of times over the years and waited until tonight to come and enjoy one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. read more

Second time here and still disappointed. We sat at the bar. We ordered the crab cakes. So mushy like many of the other reviews. For the people who enjoy this dish...why? I ordered the wagyu burger medium well.the burger came out with a medium rare toothpick. I thought it wouldn't be too bad so I started eating it. The edges were medium but when I got to the medium it was rare and I couldn't continue. We let the waitress know that it was not cooked to our request. She goes to the ticket and confirms it says medium rare which is not what I said. She the. Says,"I wrote medium rare because that is what I heard, we can fix it." My coworker even said,"I heard you say medium well." This was the first time I ever experienced fixing a meal by taking the burger and giving me back the fries. Then I was given back the burger after 10-15 mins and told it had just come out of the oven. The burger was recooked and not remade. My burger along with the lettuce, was baked. For a place that prides itself on fine dining, this was not up to par. I took my oven burger home and started to eat it. The inside was still rare. It needed to be cooked on a grill and not heated up in its entirety by oven in its foil. I do not recommend this place. 1Star - I'm not sure if they were short staffed on a Monday night. We arrived and waited almost 10 minutes before anyone approached us. My husband ordered a $14 glass of Pinot Grigio, (house) and got a four ounce pour, if that. My friend ordered a $16 lemon drop. I'm not kidding, the martini glass was a thimble size Really! They were out of everything, no bread for the table, no shrimp, no specials. I ordered a $36 salmon and it came on a bed of what I believe was canned corn. My husband's Publano Relleno was awful, very bitter tasting. My friend ordered what was described on the menu, the kurabota pork chop and it tasted and looked like a German Schnitzel. I've lived in Redlands for a few years now and have walked by the cafe multiple times and decided to try it today. Upon arrival we were asked if we had reservations (which we did not) but as I looked around the restaurant was nearly empty. We were seated a few moments later and ordered drinks and our meal. Once we were served no one came to check on us, ask us if we wanted another drink or anything else. While we were sitting there two if the servers were up front and one started chastising an employee (male w/black hair) because apparently someone sat down and didn't tell the server but he stated that he didn't even see them. It was degrading it itself but then we overheard one of them saying that customers will claim they've been waiting for 30 minutes when in reality it's only been 5" Mind you, having been a server before I understand the pressures of being a server but as mentioned the restaurant was practically empty. Also it's very poor etiquette to talk about customers in front of customers!! I definitely will not be back which I'm sure no one cares but I'm also letting everyone who asks for recommendations to not stop there. I've gotten better customer service at AM/PM. Not worth the price of the food to have crappy service. I gave this place one star because I like the tree inside. read more

What a horrible experience I had at Caprice Cafe! I made reservations on open table for noon for a patio table for two. When I arrived, I was told they booked another reservation for our table at 1:15 so we had to leave by then. By 12:45 they were already pushing us to vacate the table, bringing the check and asking us if we needed to go boxes. We were still eating! By 1:00 they came by asking us to please pay as the 1:15 guests had already arrived. To make matters worse, in my haste to pay and get hustled out of the restaurant, I left my credit card. I called later that day and was told they had my card. As I live 40 miles away I asked if they would send it to me? They agreed to. Today, six days later, I called to check to see if they had sent it. They had not and said they don't send cards and has no idea who would tell me they would. I asked to speak with a manager and Ryan told me he would talk to him and get back to me "in a day or two"! Needless to say, I will not be returning! read more

We last minute changed dinner plans and decided to come here - despite being a Monday evening this place was fully packed. I recommend calling ahead to make a reservation. We got a seat at the bar though which was good enough. They start you off with bread which seemed freshly baked. It's drizzled with olive oil and tastes fluffy inside. We ordered the wagyu burger and the pappardelle. The burger was very delicious! The chef recommends medium or medium rare so I got the latter. It's a very large burger with mushrooms, onions, bacon, and avocado (although that costs extra) and it works very well together. I was impressed by the flavor. The pappardelle was okay. The pasta itself was good texture. I wasn't crazy about the sauce - the only time lemon flavor was there was on the shrimp and it wasn't clear to me where the thyme flavor was. A few pieces is the shrimp were also slightly overcooked. Unfortunately for dessert they ran out of the cinnamon apple filo pastry. We saw a different table order that and it looked large and tasty. I'll have to come back and try it some other time. They also do a creme brulee which you can see them blowtorch near the bar. This place has a great ambiance and interior decoration. Paired with their tasty food, it's a great place for a date night or a celebratory dinner. read more

I got the beet salad substituted with a lemon vinaigrette along with goat cheese over the blue and added trout- flavors were on point. I always love to sit on the patio when it's a nice day out. Split a bottle of the Sancerre which was a lovely addition to chill end of summer afternoon. They bring out bread and butter as You first settle in at the table, my friend thought it was a nice touch. Kitchen staff is on point. Food was good. Front bar staff however that's another story. Some aren't trained properly. Others talk openly about the kitchen staff in the back in the front. Even a manager today stated I stayed until 3 am last night because of kitchen staff. I really hate them. And then calling people out for throwing products and blaming the kitchen staff. I felt uncomfortable tbh. I'm trying to enjoy my food and hearing crap about staff issues. Then don't get me started on this bar high chairs. Way too high. Out of regular standard heights. Not ada accommodating. As a business owner in Redlands, I was turned off By this restaurant today. I doubt I will return. I think it very ironic they had Cuban music in the restaurant and not one server is Hispanic. But all kitchen staff is. Little combined diversity would be ideal. Just saying. I stumbled upon this place while I was wandering around "being a tourist" while working temporarily in CA. I was a walk-in and sat at the bar. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. I felt welcomed by everyone. For starters I ordered the Prosciutto Crostini with Burrata, Green Peas, Asian Pear and Parmigiano. Great flavor combination. It took awhile for the bread to come out but I wasn't disappointed when it arrived. Next I ordered the Wild Yellowfin Tuna with Sesame, Spinach, Soybean, Ponzu. Cooked to perfection. I am crazy about yellowtail and this one delivered! Lastly I had the Bourbon Pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. I have to be honest, the pie was a let down after such a wonderful meal. It looked appealing on the plate but it tasted mostly of crust off with a few pecans and filling. I sometimes eat my dinners JUST so I can have my dessert and this simply didn't wow me. I will try again next time I am in the area. If you are a dinner lover, this is the place to go. If you love desserts, try something else on the menu and let me know how you liked it. read more

Wow wow wow... what a hidden gem!!! I would highly recommend going here if you have the opportunity! The service and ambiance of the location starts off the experience with a bang! Mariel, Noah, and Jacob all kinda tag teamed our table as servers so we never needed for a thing! Now to the food! I had the lamb I'd give it 4/5 stars the chimichurri sauce was phenomenal! I got it with smashed potatoes. Yum! My nephew had the filet mignon and said it was a 5/5 as did everyone who tried it. My sister had a spicy Angel hair pasta, which she loved 4/5 needs a bit more spice... ask to add Serrano Chili's! My mom had their special which was a fish and veggie Napoleon!! it was the best bite of food I've had! 5/5 plus some! To make up for the trouble we were given free dessert for everyone. Although this was a very kind gesture the desserts again took a really long time to arrive and then we were hurriedly notified that they needed our table because the next party had arrived. The kids and I have been really eager to try this place! The patio is always crowded, we sat inside they have beautiful huge fiddle leaf trees! I totally forgot to take a pix, they had cute little lights all around so the aesthetic was pleasing. Lucas approved of the shrimp cocktail, and he had salmon also. Valentina had the angel hair, which she also loved they both ate all their food! The loved the bread that came out before the food also. Our only complaint is that they charged for refill on drinks Parking was easy for us, however during dinner it may be more difficult. They do close for a bit before re opening for dinner. The kitchen closed so be aware and order everything you want before that if your there for lunch. Our waiter was Joe was very friendly and attentive. I would probably only for lunch with the kiddos, but we were all pretty pleased. read more

This was one of the worst dining experience I've had to date. The restaurant was out of at least 5 entree dishes (there aren't even that many on the menu), the service was one of the slowest I have ever experienced, and we had to keep asking for the whereabouts of customary things such as bread. The food was decent, but by the time we received it we had all lost our appetites. We had a reservation and arrived on time, but getting drinks took us well over 30 minutes and about 95 minutes of waiting at the table for entrees. Perhaps the worst aspect was we didn't just sit there and not make it known, we tried in the nicest way to say that this wasn't really reasonable to wait for every item for this long, yet there was zero compensation or actual apology given by the staff. I get that this was over a holiday weekend, but there is no excuse for a restaurant of this caliber to provide such a poor experience with no compensation. What was supposed to be a nice celebratory family dinner was ruined, will not be going back. read more

Went wondering around Redlands and stopped in to Caprice for dinner. Seats weren't available, so we sat at the bar. Seating at the bar is not the most comfortable. The bartenders were super nice, but it did take awhile to just order drinks, and then again for food. Ordered the filet mignon, some shrimp, and margaritas. the Cobb salad It's 10/26/24 and I'm out with my grandma and her friend, we find this place called Caprice Cafe we go in get seated I order the Cobb Salad, a hard dish to mess up right, WRONG it was horrendous the salad was a mix of lettuce tomato an spinach but the worst part was that they added blue cheese I never heard of such a thing and the sauce was like a red vinegar but the worst part is that it tasted like the inside of what a smog shop smells like, RAW OIL TASTE no doughy thought I was eating a car. would not recommend the Cobb salad. read more
