I sat at the bar and the bartender was very on it, for a Sunday it was not busy. Ordered vodka sauce with chicken and rigatoni. It was nothing I would come back to get again. The chicken was salty but the pasta could have used more flavor. Overall, I wouldn't do it again. Pricey for just okay food. The amar-garita was a favorite. I had two, it uses volcanic / black salt that is thick but it compliments the drink well. The spice has a kick that I enjoy. I'd come back for the drinks or at least this spicy margarita. read more

Capriccio continues to be a hometown favorite! Coming back for the holiday, saw that they completely redid their interior as well which brings a fresh modern look/feel. If I could leave no stars I would honestly, and that's putting it mildly. Overpriced, under seasoned. I've been here before and it was alright, safely mediocre. Got a dinner salad that was quite small for the price, crab cakes on top were fine. Passable. Finished with truffle pasta that had no truffle, was swimming in too much sauce and the pasta was overcooked to the point it was falling apart. Al dente who? I ate it because I was incredibly hungry but it was not a great experience. Buffalo rings were terrible, plucked 2 or so off the plate but all I could taste was baking powder. The "buffalo" was also just a squirt of franks red hot over the top layer of calamari. The breading was falling off, there was absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. Our water glasses were sitting empty for almost 30 minutes, but honestly when she refilled our water she kept spilling it on us so maybe it was better she didn't offer. When she overheard us critiquing the food she took out menu away though we wanted to order another drink. She also stopped making eye contact with us after she took our menu, didn't ask why we didn't finish or want to take the food home. Though she talked to EVERYONE about us, no one wanted to come over and talk to us about it. We stopped in last night for the first time, and it was incredible. The servers were very attentive and brought us anything we needed almost instantly. We had the buffalo rings which were delicious and cooked very well (and I am picky with calamari). We came here during lunch and while the food spoke it for order the service was less than desired. The waiter was preoccupied and was fixing a tv with who I can only guess was the owner. While I understand the need to multitask a lunch break or lunch hour should have a rush as we have a limited amount of time. We had to continue to try to get his attention for water or the check. I was visiting my cousin and she gave me a list of restaurants to choose from for dinner. She highly recommended this place if I wanted Italian. So I chose it. The place is tiny with two separate sides. There was a 10 minute wait on a Saturday night which was fine. We sat at the bar to wait. When we got the table, we waited a good while to get our water glasses filled. People who came in afterward got theirs filled before us. It really makes me wonder if it's a race thing. Anyway, we ordered fried calamari, white pizza, and fettucine tartufo, drinks too of course. Mine was the fettucine. I thought it was delicious for the most part. Would've liked a touch of sauce for a better mouth feel because it did feel just a touch dry. Flavor wise it was great. I had a bite of the pizza, which of course would disappoint a New Yorker as myself. The texture was too chewy. The cheese part seemed to have decent flavor. The calamari was quite good. Cooked perfectly and great marinara sauce. I'd say food was definitely solid. Service could use a smile and some friendliness. With the exception of the host (curly haired guy), did not see a single smile from any of the staff. While we are not a crowd who needs fake bubbly servers, your misery should not show either. Again, wonder if it's a race thing since we are quite a minority in Stamford. It is a service industry after all, and they are working for tips...just saying. read more

Salmon crumbs was the saving grace of this dish. I guess it is more suitable for people who cannot handle spice and don't have a refined palate. The taste was improved when the waiter provided Parmesan cheese for seasoning. I wish I had read the reviews before going to this restaurant. I took home a plate of Tiramisu. But it was too sweet. And I don't think it had Mascarpone cheese but it seemed more like whipped white cream. Again the ingredients were mediocre. Pasta dishes prices are not justified when you get the pasta for 1-3$ at Target and Pasta sauces are also cheaper. I don't think this pasta was homemade and more like store bought. I don't even know how to explain how amazing this place is. The service? On par. Went there tonight ( was there last night too.. and the week before.. and for my boyfriend's birthday in July) and they were very busy. Manager sat us, took our order as our waiter was handling multiple tables, accommodated a special request I wasn't sure of asking for with an " of course we can". The food is spectacular. Traditional Italian dishes with all the right ingredients. No ego driven chef trying to make up what the Italian culture perfected 100's of years ago. The waiter was incredibly kind and attentive. Everything slid apart from each other and the sandwich of sorts slipped about everywhere. The service was average at best, and the outdoor seating was rather uncomfortable. Somehow I had a decent experience here and the food at least tasted fine but had fundamental issues. Capriccio Cafe has been a pretty reliable spot for me in Stamford. I had two meals there over the course of a week so this review encompasses both of my experiences! For my brunch visit I ordered the blacked chicken sandwich which I have been getting for years. The chicken was a little dry but otherwise the sandwich was as tasty as I remembered it. Also had the Nutella strawberry crepes which did not disappoint. Later in the week I returned for lunch. The zucchini chips are downright craveable and a generous portion (actually the reason my friend wanted to come to Capriccios!) and we also enjoyed the eggplant parm appetizer, although it could have been more fresh-- felt like a lot of cheese and fried stuff but less actual eggplant. The kale salad was good but I find it gets a little soggy because they use younger leaves, as long as you eat it right away it's not a huge issue. We also had the Nina Pizza which we ordered because the menu described it as having "fresh" mozzarella as opposed to just mozzarella as their Margherita pizza (which costs $3 less) is described; however our pizza did not appear to have fresh mozzarella slices so I could not quite tell how it was different from what a Margherita would be. The pizza crust at Capriccios is also kind of tough and chewy, but the toppings like the fresh basil were great. Lastly my friend ordered the chocolate soufflé which was good but due to it's small size not sure if it was worth $10, especially since ice cream is $2.50 extra. Overall I enjoy coming to Capriccios especially sitting on their sidewalk patio seating. The music was way too loud when I came for brunch but not when I came the following weekend for lunch. Service is always good and food comes out fast and usually hot. Will be back! read more

Food was ok at first bust most disappointing is how manage handle situation. I ate carpaccio and had 2 drinks, got sick as a dog with food poisoning and had to go to hospital. When I called to let them know of the issue I was told their food is always safe and that it was my fault something else I ate. Mind you I'm also a chef so I called just to warn them of the issue not to ask for anything. As I was eating, I took a look around and made a clear observation that every table had a bread basket but ours; so I proceeded to ask the waiter if it was standard that every table received one without asking and he said "yes" with an apology. I've been here before a few times it's always been pretty memorable and my parties have always been very satisfied. Except the last time I was here a few weeks ago. I was with 2 other people we all shared. Had a few rounds of their signature cocktails my lady friend had a few wines we had Negronis, aperol spritz, and espresso martinis : all deliciously prepared. We had a burrata and speck which is my favorite thing here ( amazing) we also had fried calamari, buffalo calamari, meatballs and I think a pizza ? All very good nothing out of this world. We then had salmon: good, fettuccine bolognese: mediocre, and then we ordered a ny strip steak Med rare to medium, we received it well done. We ate half because we were all sharing so by the time we all took a bite half was gone. We explained to the server how unsatisfied we were with the steak and it was chewy and over cooked. He took Half of it back. Then the owner and managers proceeded to give us very uncomfortable looks surrounding us and walking in circles like angry sharks or something or maybe like just plain salty cowards as they whispered to each other pointing at us. We continued to try to have a good time finished with ice cream and a Nutella calzone and espresso martinis. We received the bill for charged for the steak even though I could have took it home and my dog would have loved the steak since her teeth are better prepared to take that juicy rubber meat thing. We payed without making any fuss and tipped the server 25% and reminded him he did a great job and was very professional. It seemed like he brought up the steak to the management and got yelled at so we felt pretty bad for him. What made this evening uncomfortable was the lack of management and simply addressing the problem with your customers. Not only did you not do anything, you made us feel uncomfortable, unwanted and insulted by your petty glances. As I walked out I tried being the bigger man and expressing to the owner how happy I was with appetizers and drinks but no so much with main courses. They were no where to be found. Seems like they scattered once they saw us get up. I understand you take pride in your food and establishment. I understand steaks are expensive and you don't want to take a loss. They are open for outdoor dining and the meal was excellent with the service, we started with the hurrays it was delicious they have unlimited mimosas for brunch didn't get that but I did have aperol spritz 2 of them it was delicious with the weather was perfect.
