I was overly harsh earlier. The food at Sole is absolutely terrific. However, I'm here to warn you that ordering for pickup is a high risk proposition and just be really careful and ask for extra bags and check how securely the sauce lids are closed I have 3 separate family experiences to report that the food is not packed properly and has little chance of surviving the exit of the car. In none of these instances was I the driver. i will not order for pickup here. I will dine here One family car needed to be detailed to fix the smell inside, the mats had to be tossed... We will find out about car number 2 tomorrow Re the food, truly it is good and halibut off asphalt is not bad, texture wise and thankfully the bread soaked up the splattered sauce quite well. If you do want to eat light, then don't ask for extra bags or bring your own containers. I would recommend eating in over picking up

It was crowded on a Saturday night. Food was good but pricey given the taste. We made the choice to sit inside and it probably the wrong choice as it was loud for what seemed unnecessary. My kids were confused as to whether it was trying to be a hip place or family place. To be fair, the halibut was well seasoned, but for just under 40 a pop I found that the dish in its entirety was just ok. The lobster in my hubs dish was generous. We wanted to really love this place- it was good but not great. Service was very good. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high given that I've not found a great seafood place near us.

Our first visit on a Friday night at 7pm with a group of six. To the front of a busy restaurant with tight table spacing and lots going on. Reservations are highly recommended, esp for weekend dinner. The rectangular dining room fronts and sides the open kitchen. Our round booth was cozy and off the floor, so foot traffic was light. Getting to the bathroom around the packed tables required logistics. Not enough room to allow two to pass each other. Our server, Ricardo, was stellar, and other than empty water glasses, we were well taken of, and courses were spaced appropriately. We ordered calamari and mussels for table share. The calamari was light and crispy - good stuff - and the mussels were fresh, small and perfect in their red curry sauce (and my dunked bread agreed). My entree, braised veal ravioli in a Marsala wine and wild mushroom sauce was terrific and the two diners really enjoyed their pastas - a ricotta cavatelli with sausage in a broccoli rabe pesto. The linguine with clam sauce was not as big a hit although there were abundant Manila clams. Kudos for having a current on-line food menu and an updated and well structured wine list. A tad steep on the corkage at $40 per bottle. Would definitely visit regularly if we lived in da hood!

We came here for a lunch date this afternoon, and were very impressed the service and the food. The yellow tail avocado ceviche was delicious as was the parmasean-crusted halibut. The outdoor seating is comfortable and relaxed and we had a wonderful time.

One of the few places with heaters and nice outdoor seating! Delicious food. The mussels were out of this world. Delicious cocktail. We got pasta and ravioli to share. The lobster pasta actually had generous amount of lobster. Very kind staff!

My dad and I were looking for a brunch spot in New Canaan and ran into this gorgeous place. We were able to sit inside (really fun interior, loved the shape of the booths) and social distanced safely. Our waiter was super friendly (and super sweet) and was excellent. Major props being able to work with such kindness and service during the holidays in a pandemic! I was really impressed. The food was totally delicious. My father got the brunch special--bacon and lobster omelette. Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I was impressed with how delicate the lobster was! However, my tuna bowl was so special. Each piece was seared to perfection (god knows we hate an overcooked piece of tuna) dressed in a pleasantly spiced sauce (I couldn't tell if it was mayonnaise based) that was creamy yet light as air. The rice and ancient grains were cooked perfectly as well, and not overdressed. The broccoli added a lovely crunch and color, dressed in a brightly acidic style. But the real winner on the plate was that hummus. Smooth textured, with flavors and a nice smokiness as an aftertaste.I could eat that hummus with a spoon all day long. I was so pleased with the umami-bomb in front of me, I ate it so slowly. We had coffee and dessert. My latte was well-made, something I've found difficult for some restaurants to really get right. My father and I split a tiramisu. The cream on top was delicious, but I found the sponge to be under-soaked, and not a lot of coffee flavor, therefore, was to be found. I did get a hit of booze from the cream, not sure what alcohol it was though. Overall, a wonderful place to eat. I hope to come back soon and eat more of that hummus!!!

We were seated next to 2 tables. One was a bunch of moms hanging out and having many drinks and their children at another table. Both tables were obnoxiously loud. The kids were Constantly up and down, bumping into my mom's chair, they were all over the restaurant, screaming in my mom's ear. My moms asked them nicely a few times to not scream in her ear. Eventually they sat back down after the waiter said something. But they sat ON the table and couldn't sit still. Totally get that they're kids, but at some point management should have said something before we asked.. Anyway, that's not really the restaurants fault. It just made for an unpleasant experience for our party. Our server was friendly and attentive, Our food was good, portions were good: Everything tasted fresh. My only gripe is that it's very loud and I feel like management should ask parents to control kids that are ruining it for others.

We take a look at the menu and my daughters notice a soft-shell crab on the specials - for a mere $39.95 it came on a whole bed of wilted spinach. we order the clam oregata and a seafood risotto for ourselves. The clams and risotto were very good, but the crab was appalling, I wish I took a picture. It was a skimpy crab with literally maybe 2-3 teaspoons of meat in it, no exaggeration. The owners actually came over to ask how everything was, and when we told them about the crab and the fact that there wasn't any meat in it they just said "well, it's a whole crab" and walked away. I was really confused. I don't know whether they overcooked it (likely) or if it was caught too late, either way no apology whatsoever from them. m The shell had the consistency of hard shrimp skin, not something easy to chew like it should have been. One clam app, one risotto and the crab were $125 And I had to make my daughters dinner once I got home. I don't think I will be returning, there are plenty of better restaurants in the area.. what a shame.

After exiting off the "always under construction" Merritt Pkwy (CT 15), I headed into the downtown area of New Canaan and decided on Lombardi's Ristorante & Bar, which opened recently in the former Papyrus space. This Italian restaurant and bar offers and cozy modern atmosphere with table seating along the right wall and a full bar with seating along the left side. They do have a dress code here including no hats, no hoodies, no sweatpants. The food offerings include a selection of crafted homemade pasta dishes, meat & seafood dishes, appetizers, salads, cheese & meat samplers, and dessert. The pricing is on the higher side and food is prepared to order. The bar serves beer, wine, and cocktails. I also called the restaurant to make sure they were open after 9 pm, when I would be passing through. I arrived here around 9:15pm, which was the perfect time when things weren't too busy. I left my cap in the vehicle and entered Lombardi's and took a seat at the bar. The bartender gave me a menu to look at and offered water. I decided on a starter, but the bartender helped me decide on an entrée. For a starter, the Frittatina Napoletana ($18 plus tax), which was a fried pasta fritter filled with linguine noodles, peas & ham in a cream sauce and topped with a white sauce. For an entrée, the Cavatelli Rossi Al Ragu Bianco ($30 plus tax), very firm hand rolled pasta curls, in a white veal ragu with dehydrated tomato dust & parmigiano fondue. Both the starter and entrée were fantastic choices with good hearty flavors. After I was done, I passed on dessert and got the check with Toast QR code which was $51.52 with tax and before tip. Overall, I enjoyed some great well prepared Italian dishes, nicely presented. The service was very good here. The bartender was able to keep an eye on things, offering water & drinks, making suggestions and also chatting about life. The food runners brought me the starter and entrée in timely order. I would definitely recommend Lombardi's for a date night, special occasion, or just wanting to enjoy some great food.

"A birthday dinner that actually felt like one."…read more Sienna Ristorante gets the balance right in a way most places don't. The space immediately stands out with a clean, modern feel that still feels warm, not staged or overly polished. It sets the tone before the food even hits the table. The meal itself followed through. The complimentary bread with oil was simple but done right, soft with a good crust and a clean, flavorful dip. We shared the wild mushroom arancini, and that was the first real standout. Crispy on the outside, rich on the inside, and the sauce was the kind you keep going back to without thinking. It carried the dish. For mains, I went with the wild mushroom pizza, which came out with a well balanced crust and just enough weight from the toppings without feeling heavy. The mushrooms were the focus and they delivered. The honeynut squash ravioli leaned more delicate, slightly sweet, and felt more composed than expected in a good way. Drinks held their own too. The Old Fashioned was clean and steady, while the lychee martini added something lighter and more refreshing to the table. They close the meal with biscotti and limoncello, which already would have been enough, but we added the tiramisu and that was the right call. It rounded everything out without feeling excessive, just a clean finish to a well paced dinner. Service matched the tone of the restaurant, attentive without hovering, and the pacing of the meal felt natural from start to finish. This is the kind of place that feels intentional. Not just good food, but a full experience that actually holds together. Easy to come back to, especially for something worth celebrating.
