It was Good Friday so I wanted something meatless and went with the eggplant rollatini over linguine pasta. It came with 3 pieces of bread. Because of the location of their sign upfront, I pulled in the wrong lot, luckily it was a short walk. My order was ready for me when I arrived. The workers made me feel welcomed, smiling with eye contact. My food was packed well, saran wrapped to ensure no leakage. My food tasted good but I feel like the cheese mixture in the rollatini should have had more ricotta. At points it was too chewy for me. Overall I'd try more items on the menu. read more

Their pizza is the best I have had in years. Tasty, quality cheese over just the right amount of sauce. Size of slices is huge. They have a special of 2 slices and a can of soda for $9. A bargain these days for. Salads and other dishes are made to order and very tasty. Service is gruff, but efficient. On premises parking is extremely limited. 5-6 tight spots. A really great place to have a casual meal or takeout. read more

Interestingly enough, I don't like the pizza there. But almost every other item on their menu is fabulous. It's pasta & faggioli soup is the best I've ever tasted. You must order this. They have an online ordering system here. Usually, the expectation is that mistakes will be minimized since you don't have to verbally give your order. At least that's the expectation. I ordered here the other day. I picked up my order, looked at the receipts to verify everything was correct and went home. Of course, once I got home and opened up the bags, my salad was incorrect. I ordered the tri-colored salad with mozzarella, roasted peppers, etc. What I got was the mixed greens salad. I called to ask them to give me at least half the price refunded since I wasn't driving back to switch it. The guy said, What do you want me to do? He claimed he'd notate my account with a future credit for a salad and didn't seem very apologetic. Almost as if to say, come back and bring back the salad and get a new one. The problem is the food is okay. Having an annoying experience like this means I'm not going back. There's enough middling pizza take out spots around here to move on and use them going forward. I was just really annoyed of the lack of attention to detail on such a simple task as packing the right salad in a takeout order. Lesson learned, always check your order before you leave the store. I will never frequent this restaurant again. We placed a large order for dinner, and they supposedly got so busy that they canceled our order as were leaving the house to pick it up. When I called to inquire, the person who answered the phone hung up on me. When I spoke to the manager two days later, his only response was, "We did our best." No apology for ruining our dinner, no offer to make amends. He ultimately said, if I have a problem with it, it's my problem, and he hung up on me as well. Not once did I raise my voice or say anything unreasonable. There are a lot of fine restaurants in the area that I can support. Mario the Baker will no longer be one of them. They do have yummy pizza ! I like that I can taste the oregano in the sauce & the crust is crispy yet fluffy if that makes sense. I also tried the minestrone soup. It was a little on the bland side, but it was packed with vegetables which were all cooked nicely. No chunks of tomato though, which I thought was out of character for minestrone.. flavor was good just could've used more spices and tomatoes. Their fettuccine Arturo sauce was delicious especially with Parmesan cheese. It was weird that the shrimp still had the tails on them mixed in the pasta. I feel like they should've been removed since they were mixed in. Something that was annoying was when I ordered delivery, I paid with my cc & was going to tip on the reciept since I only had 20s. When I went to sign for the food, the delivery driver had already written in "cash" on the tip line and filled out the total amount. Super annoying, he wouldn't have been tipped if my brother didn't happen to drop by at that exact moment. I'd definitely order pizza from here. Good pizza but the cheese salad was easily the weakest I have every had. It came in a pre packed container with one little cup of cheese and one little cup (and I mean little like a ketchup takeout cup) of dressing. Basically a tastiest salad. Mario the Baker is a classic restaurant in Stamford that's been around forever. Anyone who is anyone knows the owners and can usually spot a friend or two when coming out to dinner here. The food here is good, not amazing but good food. I've had the Chicken Marsala, Scarpariello, Baked Ravioli, Fettuccini Alfredo and Stuffed Shells when it's a special. The Scarpariello is my absolute favorite italian dish and Mario's makes it just right. I usually ask for extra spicy because the sauce is amazing. The salads are good, small but good enough. Sometimes they drench your salad in too much dressing but no worries, just ask for it on the side. Get the garlic bread with your meal, it's great. Mario's also does take-out which is pretty much the same as in the restaurant. So if you've had a rough day and you don't want to dine out just get the take-out! Mario's is wheelchair accessible and family friendly. I wouldn't recommend coming between 4 and 6 as most family's come in around that time and it's super crowded and extra loud. read more

Waited an hour for delivery just to receive the order wrong. Ordered a shrimp parm wedge. The styrofoam box clearly said "SHRIMP PARM W" opened it later to find a chicken parm wedge. We were starving by that point so didn't have the energy to call back and have them come back with the correct wedge. Were charged for shrimp which is $5 more than chicken. Ordered the Escarole and Bean Soup, and a plain small salad; this soup always tastes great and never disappoints. The only critique regarding flavor is, it could've had a little more bitter flavor from the escarole (maybe the price of escarole increased and they had to go light). My major complaint (and the 2 stars) comes from the quantity of food. What you pay for these items is definitely not worth it; if the cost for meals increase (due to produce inflation, and minimum wage increase in CT), the portion of food should at least stay as it was. The salad was a good blend of greens and the extras included (Cucumber, Olives, Tomatoes, etc.), were equally proportionate for optimal flavor, and nothing was overpowering. However, same as the soup, the salad did not fill the plate and to lessen the quantity of salad, they place the medium-sized dressing cup INSIDE the plate, utilizing almost a quarter percent of the food-space (inside the rim). The enclosed pictures of the soup bowl (before and after) will speak for itself. The meal cost $15 (soup I assume is $5.99 (as was the cost for all others, except the daily special, which was around $8). Did I spend $9 for possibly 1 cup worth of salad? They were always overpriced, but the taste always justified the cost. Increased prices with smaller portions, have just tipped the scale of not making it worth another visit. read more

She then tell me "It's just leaving now." It took another 20 minutes to arrive-- clearly she had lied to me, since the delivery spot was a 5-minute drive. I've grown up with Mario the Baker as my go-to pizza place. It's definitely not gourmet, but the food they serve is very tasty. The pizzas are delicious--the crust is crunchy and there's always a good ratio amongst the topping(s), cheese, and sauce. Usually, I choose my own toppings (I'm a big fan of their meatballs); however, I have tried a couple of the different "specialty pizzas" they serve and would recommend both the Capricciosa and Bianca pizzas. If you're in the mood for a different type of pizza experience, Mario's also makes a tasty Sicilian-style pizza and crisp on the outside, soft and cheesy on the inside, calzones. In addition to pizza, Mario's offers a number of classic Italian American dishes. Like the pizzas, these dishes are, for the most part, nothing overly fancy, but tasty. The house salad is pretty basic (iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, cucumbers, red onions, a vinaigrette) but good enough. After all, it's not really the point of the restaurant. More impressive is the garlic bread. If you're a garlic fan, be sure to order one for the table. I'm not a big eggplant person; however, my family members all enjoy the Eggplant Rollatini and Parmesan. The Alfredo is a bit too rich for my taste--I would recommend sticking with tomato sauce dishes such as the Stuffed Shells. read more

Maybe it was my expectations, but all I wanted was a simple slice of sausage pizza while my wife's hair was cut next store. I ordered at the counter in the back and was asked whether "to go" or "stay." It was an empty restaurant, 3 in the afternoon, so I decided to have the slice in the restaurant..."stay." I sat at the table and did a few emails, then a paper mat was placed in front of me. It was a longish 5-10 minutes before my slice arrived, but I was in no hurry. The slice was nice sized, with a lot of crumbled sausage on top. I could see the grease oozing over the edges and grabbed a lot of napkins. The first mini-bite was blazing hot, this needed a few minutes to cool down. Once cooled I took my first bite...there was an explosion of fennel from the sausage, little tomato and a lot grease. A full napkin was required. Each succeeding bite was more grease, a lot of the crumbled sausage, and a smattering of cheese. The crust was cracker-style, not bad, but nothing to write home about. Overall it was a greasy slice of sausage on a cracker crust, not really a pizza slice with sausage. When I was finished I returned to the counter to pay. I was told someone would bring the check to the table. I waited a couple of minutes and was given the check, handed him the money and waited again. He waited at the register as the pizza-maker took an order from another take-out customer and then a phone order. I finally received my change. I understand they want to be viewed as a restaurant, but at three in the afternoon, for a single slice, and not that good a slice, I would be hard pressed to return. read more
