Serving Waukee from the space since the 1870s, this place has equipment rentals, paint, home needs, hardware, tools, and it is uncluttered! Every brand name represented. Located in Waukee's Triangle District, and it is a special visit. Owner Geoff is such a good guy, exudes professionalism and awareness after 30+ years at the store. He has morphed the store into a current venue, handling today's needs. Impressive guy who cares about his customers. But it's Andie the Cat who rules the premises! A cuddly cat who boosts throughout the store, so sweet, and loves to be petted!

I am always greeted as I walk in the door. Today, I went for a screw and nut. I needed it for my holder for my bike. The woman working greeted me as I walked in. She took me back to the right area and even picked them out for me. I forgot they had a minimum ($1) to use a credit card. I had no money with me besides my credit card. They offered me to come back and pay, I was afraid i would forget. I shopped instead. I knew I probably needed more items. When I checked out, the woman asked me if I was going to put the phone holder on my bike now. I said yes, so she followed me out with a screw driver. The screw was too short, so she went in and got a bigger one for me. You don't get service like this anymore.

I was there at roughly 11 am on Tuesday, March 15, 2025. the problem involves a man and a woman, both of color and in late 20s or early 30s. This info is given just in case the manager of the garden center would like to start doing his/her job. I was loading 1.5 cu ft bags of soil into my cart when I noticed a skid 30 ft away. I rolled my cart less than 10 feet past the two employees described above who were leaning against shelving casually engaged in conversation. I had passed within just 3-4 feet of them. I started to unload the 4 bags from the cart onto the skid. When I looked up hoping that the guy would offer some help, I saw that he had turned his back to a 74 year old customer who was visibly huffing and puffing as he continued his conversation. That done, I went back to the soil location and added another 2 bags to the skid. After leaving the check-out I approached a managerial-looking woman who said that she was the front of store manager. I told her about it and she walked away and said nothing. So now I went out to my suv and loaded the 6 bags of soil into it. I drove to the outside of the garden center and stopped the car. That same guy was in a different location but within my view again leaning against shelving and casually chatting to someone (I couldn't see if it was the same woman).

The items in need usually is here all except for enough tile where I had to turn to another store that specialized in just tile. Not to worry, because the door, paint, hardware and other odds and ends were in stock. Ordering online was easy and so was the pickup using your coded sheet sent to you when your order is ready for pickup. I've only had a few hiccups when trying to locate my items, but going to the service desk saved the day. My new Larson Door, with Schlage Hardware and kitchen flush mound light is perfect!

My regular (aka go to) Home Depot!…read more Now do I enjoy going to either Home Depot or Lowe's overall...? No. I work in IT...I'm not exactly a big hands on, do it yourself, home project guy... The things that make me like going to this Home Depot... 1. The app. If I don't choose to buy the item online and do a pick up the app tells me what aisle the item I'm looking for is in and what section of the aisle I can find it at. 2. They offer a veterans discount. Not much... But it pretty much covers the sales tax here in Iowa anyway... It's easy to sign up for and add to your app if you have ID.me setup. Once it's in your app you just scan the QR code for the discount when you check out. Like any other Home Depot or Lowe's no one is EVER around when you actually need them. And I've learned to deal with that... Lol Parking is easy. The lot is huge and the store is fully handcapped accessible. They do offer a special parking space for veterans as well (one spot). The store is clean and easy to navigate. When I do need to flag someone down for help they are usually personable enough...when you can finally locate someone. The big picture... It is what is is. A HUGE big box store, with affordable prices, housing every item you could need for a project...and then some!

I've purchased plants and soil, cleaning supplies, flooring, paint, etc. I like that you can look up the item on your phone and it will tell you what aisle your item is located. I've even purchased products online and picked up the order here a few hours later at their storage lockers. Employees here are friendly and knowledgeable. They have bins where you can recycle batteries and Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) for free. https://ecoactions.homedepot.com/blog/projects/recycle-compact-fluorescent-bulbs-the-home-depot/ Plus they are pet friendly!

I wish I could give Lowe's zero stars for this nightmare of a "door installation." What should have…read morebeen a simple project turned into 6+ months of lies, shortcuts, damage, and complete lack of accountability. I paid Lowe's $1,700 for a door and "professional installation." The first door came in wrong. It was supposed to have clear coat applied but you can tell that it didn't, surface was very rough. Instead of owning up to it, they and their installer actually tried to convince me it was correct. I had to call the manufacturer myself to prove Lowe's was lying, it was unfinished, just like I suspected. That's the level of honesty I've been dealing with. I've attached photo of a response from manufacturer. After dragging me along for months, they reordered. I thought maybe it would finally be done right. Nope. The second door came damaged, the framing was done wrong, and worst of all the installer framed the wall directly on top of my floating vinyl floor. Any real contractor knows that voids the warranty and ruins the floor. A flooring company gave me a written estimate for $800 in damage just to fix what Lowe's caused. They also noted that due to incorrect install my warranty is voided, attached photo of that too. And now to fix it, everything they did, the wall, the door, the frame has to be completely ripped out and redone. So what exactly did I pay them for? Let's not forget the quality, paint chips everywhere, sloppy cuts, shortcuts at every step. Nothing about it was professional. And the customer service? Endless follow-ups, vague promises, and wasted hours of my time. Even the store supervisor admitted their work was a mess, but when it came to actually making it right, Lowe's corporate only offered me $450 total. That doesn't even cover the floor damage, let alone the install I paid nearly $800 for. They called it a "fair" offer. In what world is that fair? Bottom line: I paid for a professional install and got lies, damage, and months of stress. Lowe's refused to take responsibility, even after the BBB got involved. Everything they touched has to be redone, and they still want me to settle for less than what they broke. That's not professional service -- it's embarrassing. If you value your time, your money, or your home, do not hire Lowe's for installation. They'll take your money, cut corners, and leave you to clean up the mess.

I walk in, and as usual I'm picked out as soon as I make two steps into the door to ask if there's something they can help me with. I guess browsing is not allowed (to bad for them since that's when my wallet starts to loosen up, and I buy things that I "think" I need). I tell the clerk that I need some ceiling paint. I'm asked: "interior or exterior"... Um, exterior ceiling paint? I don't think there is a such thing as exterior ceiling paint. Now I looked hard and far for anyone claiming to sell exterior ceiling paint. I even asked the clerk to show me a can of paint labeled "exterior ceiling paint" which he wasn't able to do. I think I'll just drive the extra 10 minutes to the next nearest home center store instead of stopping here. At least I can browse around those stores to get ideas on projects that I may want to tackle in the future.
