I called the Clive location, and the young man who answered was very helpful and connected me with Mia by phone. We set up a time for her to come to our home. She was on time, super nice and skilled with color - How fun! She asked helpful questions, and both my husband and I feel like she tapped into what we're going for, while saving us a ton of time. There is no cost for the service, yet they ask that you purchase your paint from Sherwin-Williams for the project. I am happy to get our paint here, now. What an effective, productive set up. This True Value store is one of the closest hardware stores to downtown. It's easy to get to off…read moreof Grand or 63rd, but turning around a trailer could be tough in this parking lot. The store is really clean, and there were actually employees walking around being helpful. What I like about these sized stores is that you can find your way around and things are geared more to homeowner type projects instead of contractors or renovations. You want to come here for those smaller projects, or if you need advice on something in your house. I wouldn't come here to buy yards of topsoil or huge piles of lumber. For us, it was in and out in 15 minutes to buy a hose, some seed and fertilizer. Prices were good (be sure to check out their house brand - it was cheaper than the big brands), and I found the selection to be good as well. Oh, and they rent tools if you need them - especially garden stuff (like sod cutters or rototillers)

I've been painting homes for nearly 30 years now and had to laugh when the store manager Brittany, tried to tell me how the paint samples Sherwin Williams provides don't really match their actual paint products. We had a situation where paint mixed at the Douglas Ave. store in Des Moines was clearly different than the Sherwin Williams paint sample provided. This led to 4 hours of paint crew time lost applying a bad color mix from this store. After several phone calls and a return trip to give the store an opportunity to offer a remedy; for instance, store credit for the cost of bad paint etc. any remedy at all really, store manager Brittany doubled down on her bad product and service. Naturally paint sales are final for obvious reasons, but when your Douglas Ave Des Moines, IA store jacks up the mix, costs customers and contractors time & money, doing the right thing seems so simple. Best advice don't shop here. You'll get a better deal where the store and its associates care about your project and know how to do their job

The prices are comparable to the big stores, but the service is ten times better and there is no long wait in line to have your paints mixed. I took in a sample of woodwork and they matched with a custom stain within minutes. At the big stores, I had to shop from a piece of paper to match as closely as I could. John and his staff took the time to make a custom stain for me and removed all of the guess work. I will always buy my paints and stains at this location. They are the best!

When I finally was so frustrated with the home improvement stores, I walked into the Woodsmith Store and they knew immediately what I needed. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and actually seem to be woodworkers, not just clerks wandering aimlessly. Customers with no masks walking around in those tine isles. When I asked an employee about their mask policy what appeared to be a buddy of said employee called me SS (as in a Nazi). The things that make me like going to this Home Depot... 1. The app. If I don't choose to buy the item online and do a pick up the app tells me what aisle the item I'm looking for is in and what section of the aisle I can find it at. 2. They offer a veterans discount. Not much... But it pretty much covers the sales tax here in Iowa anyway... It's easy to sign up for and add to your app if you have ID.me setup. Once it's in your app you just scan the QR code for the discount when you check out. Like any other Home Depot or Lowe's no one is EVER around when you actually need them. And I've learned to deal with that... Lol Parking is easy. The lot is huge and the store is fully handcapped accessible. They do offer a special parking space for veterans as well (one spot). The store is clean and easy to navigate. When I do need to flag someone down for help they are usually personable enough...when you can finally locate someone. The big picture... It is what is is. A HUGE big box store, with affordable prices, housing every item you could need for a project...and then some!

My mom has been going here for years. If you didn't where to go for it, you almost wouldn't know it was there. Tucked down a dead end road in Johnston is this beautiful greenhouse! I went in just for a couple vegetables for my garden and left with more plants than I think I had places for. Well I might be back anyway. They have so much to choose from and everything was really neatly organized. Everyone was really helpful and directed me on where to find my broccoli and helped me choose the right tomatoes for us. They have lots of potting options and things to get your garden or yard going no matter how big or small. So far all my plants are still living and looking pretty good. I think I will go back for some flowering plants to try and pretty up my front yard. I am excited that I finally have time to try this place out!
