When I finally was so frustrated with the home improvement stores, I walked into the Woodsmith Store and they knew immediately what I needed. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and actually seem to be woodworkers, not just clerks wandering aimlessly. While there I also visited the garden center and was awed by the selection and the knowledge of the staff. I will be back time and time again!!!

The prices are comparable to the big stores, but the service is ten times better and there is no long wait in line to have your paints mixed. I took in a sample of woodwork and they matched with a custom stain within minutes. At the big stores, I had to shop from a piece of paper to match as closely as I could. John and his staff took the time to make a custom stain for me and removed all of the guess work. I will always buy my paints and stains at this location. They are the best!

The things that make me like going to this Home Depot... 1. The app. If I don't choose to buy the item online and do a pick up the app tells me what aisle the item I'm looking for is in and what section of the aisle I can find it at. 2. They offer a veterans discount. Not much... But it pretty much covers the sales tax here in Iowa anyway... It's easy to sign up for and add to your app if you have ID.me setup. Once it's in your app you just scan the QR code for the discount when you check out. Like any other Home Depot or Lowe's no one is EVER around when you actually need them. And I've learned to deal with that... Lol Parking is easy. The lot is huge and the store is fully handcapped accessible. They do offer a special parking space for veterans as well (one spot). The store is clean and easy to navigate. When I do need to flag someone down for help they are usually personable enough...when you can finally locate someone. The big picture... It is what is is. A HUGE big box store, with affordable prices, housing every item you could need for a project...and then some!

This True Value store is one of the closest hardware stores to downtown. It's easy to get to off…read moreof Grand or 63rd, but turning around a trailer could be tough in this parking lot. The store is really clean, and there were actually employees walking around being helpful. What I like about these sized stores is that you can find your way around and things are geared more to homeowner type projects instead of contractors or renovations. You want to come here for those smaller projects, or if you need advice on something in your house. I wouldn't come here to buy yards of topsoil or huge piles of lumber. For us, it was in and out in 15 minutes to buy a hose, some seed and fertilizer. Prices were good (be sure to check out their house brand - it was cheaper than the big brands), and I found the selection to be good as well. Oh, and they rent tools if you need them - especially garden stuff (like sod cutters or rototillers)

According to the lady at the service desk this morning, the trucking company had been holding it in their warehouse for no known reason. They finally tried to deliver it this morning to the store and the person at the dock refused delivery because he did not have keys to unlock the dock! And to make it worse, the lady told me they have a lot of problems with this trucking company but they continue to use them. I cannot understand that level of incompetence. As we were leaving I said "we didn't really appreciate all the dirty looks we were getting, bye." And this cashier followed us out to berate us and tell us "if you had better control over your children[she wouldn't be giving us dirty looks]" I said " ma'am both my kids have ADHD I was trying my best what do you want me to do? Never take them in public?" And she continued to berate us as we were walking to the parking lot, she literally didn't need to do any of that, she could have just taken the feedback and not said anything as we were already out the door as I was saying it, but no, she felt the need to give her judgment at what terrible parents we apparently are. If she has adult children I'd definitely understand why they no longer speak to her, but I'm sure it's more likely with how bitter and unhappy she is that she doesn't have a family at all. DO NOT COME HERE WITH KIDS! These people clearly only want adult customers as all kids can't be perfectly behaved all the time and that's what the staff members who work here expect. I'd give zero stars if I could and return what we did purchase from them because clearly the owners have no problem employing bitter and rude employees who are fine at looking at their customers like they're worse than the dirt stuck to the bottom of their shoes. Please don't give them your business, especially if you have kids.
