Great prices!!! Not a ton of seating but I've never had to wait. Food is good with large portions to share. The place has a hometown feel.

Fast, friendly service. HUGE breakfast for $8! Pancakes, eggs, toast, meat, and home fries! Everything was great. The home fries were pleasantly crispy, just the way I like them. Food was pretty good but the service was terrible. The waitress was on her cel phone the entire time, including white taking our order. Naturally, she got the order wrong but then blamed us saying "we never gave the meat order." Overall pretty terrible experience (I found dirt in my water) but the pancakes were delish. read more

The food is great. I love this place. I can't argue with the other commenters who say the service is pretty terrible. It's a family-run place, and there are a bunch of kids and cousins and whatnot doing the serving. Not all of the servers care, and some of them are slow (but some of them are grandmas!) This is just one of the hazards of a family-run restaurant. But if you're willing to put up with repeating your order and maybe having to remind them what you actually ordered, the food is definitely worth it. Very homey, very well made and tasty. They almost never get the cooking wrong, and I say that as someone who goes there a lot. Worst thing that ever happened to me is slightly undercooked bacon, which they replaced with perfect bacon, with no fuss. The cost is pretty low for the amount and quality of food you get. And I like this place way better than Blue Moon, warts and all. Blue Moon staff may be more competent but they're cold as ice, extremely unfriendly. The seating at Blue Moon is way more crowded and uncomfortable, it takes a lot longer to get seated, and the parking is difficult - plus it all costs more. read more

Been coming to cappa's since we moved to Melrose. It's honest breakfast food, made quick and with a smile. A little greasy but well it's breakfast! Good omelettes, pancakes waffles and offer the all important combo so you aren't paying yen bucks just to have pancakes and eggs and bacon. This breakfast place probably gave me the worst experience ever. My friends and I went to get breakfast here one morning. We entered at about 9:45. We had to seat ourselves because everyone working there was distracted. The utensils were disgusting. After waiting 20 minutes, a waitress came over to take our orders for drinks. After a while of waiting, she finally brought the drinks over and put her arm right in my face while reaching across the table. That was both rude and unsanitary. She finally took our orders for food, and we were waiting over a half over. After watching more than 4 customers get up and leave because they weren't being serviced, we decided to do the same. They didn't even care that we walked out. Cappas trackside has officially lost my business and I do not recommend going here. read more

I just had 2 eggs, scrambled, hash without onions, which I like, and won't eat if they put them into it, wheat toast , oj, coffee and home fries... all for under 10 bucks. So the price is amazing. Now it seems that some people on here do not like their home fries because they are skillet fried and come out in chunks instead of small individual pieces, I thought it was great and a nice variation on the traditional kind of fried potatoes. I absolutely adore this place. It's one of the gems of Melrose and a classic New England breakfast spot. The thing that brings me back for more is their wonderful Eggs Benedict and crisp home fries. The eggs are always poached perfectly and the home fries are never flabby and bland. The thing that I love the most is that it is a family owned restaurant. Unfortunately I had the same experience as other people who have given this business a poor review. Right when I walked in, I was waiting for the woman at the front to acknowledge me as I didn't want to interrupt what she was doing. She looked and aggressively asked what I was doing there and that I should know where the take out line was. I was literally in shock that a business communicates with their customers like that. She was nit picking every little thing I was doing/saying and it finally reached the point where I said, "I will never come back here again", and she replied that that's okay. Food is your basic breakfast /brunch fair. Strawberry cheesecake French toast will satisfy your sweet tooth for sure! Home fries were very crispy. Nice small town atmosphere for the out of towner such as myself to enjoy. Overall food was up to par and definitely suggest the grilled bagel instead of toasted. read more

My wife and I go to Cappa's every few weeks. Always reliable and good food. It's a great little small diner experience. Expect a wait during Saturday and Sunday brunch-time. The owners and staff are great down-to-earth people and very attentive to customers. Anyone who complains about the food needs a reality check. Have you never been to a diner before? It ain't a 5 star restaurant. Don't expect health-food and meticulously prepared dishes. If you want to have an old-fashioned tasty breakfast, this is the place for you. read more

Pancakes, french toast, omelettes are the best. The omelettes servings are huge so you need to have a good appetite to finish one and they are yummy. I had gone here a couple of times for breakfast and i had taken a family visiting me as well. The food and service is awesome. This place does get a bit crowded esp saturdays and sundays in the morning and its best to go a bit early to get a seat. This is a family run business which makes the food so good and all the staff are very prompt with service. I would definately recommend this place. read more

The food ranges from better-than-ok to really excellent (love the omelets), and it's a great value for the price. The service is attentive and they hustle. You may wait in line on the weekends, and it can very occasionally be hard to find a place to park nearby. This week several locals told us about "This Breakfast Gem" at 1 Grove Street, Melrose, MA 02176. 9.45AM - We arrived at Cappa's Track Side Kitchen, it was filled to the brim, there were 10 people in front of us waiting to be seated. The waitress stretched her neck over to ask me: "How many people are in your party"? - "I said two" she said: "There are two seats are the end of the counter hon! Is that okay for you"? I knew I liked this place already. Before taking my gloves off, she came over with the menus and steaming hot coffee, it was home-made delicious, I like this place even more now. 10.10AM - Our eggs, potatoes and toast arrived perfectly cooked as we requested, we shared the Caramel Apple Pancakes, they were heavenly! Two more cups of fresh coffee. 10.25AM - Two more cups of fresh coffee. 10.40AM - We finished our breakfast but only half of our pancakes. We decided to take it home to add more Caramel Apples for dessert. Since we left Saratoga Springs NY, we have been seeking a breakfast gem to compare to Shirley's. It is kind of hard to find good breakfast in the area and when we found cappa's we thought the food was good and gave up searching. The food at cappa's is pretty good which is the main reason we overlooked the cleanliness, and service... The place is not that clean, that brings it down from 5 to 4. The food is actually good, but just enough to put this place at 3 stars....now, the juicy part... The whole time we came here the service was crap. We went there a lot and the servers never cared to learn or know about us as cutomers. Many times we'd get there and stand for 5 minutes waiting to be noticed. I'll make this short because my wife will read this and make fun of me for it... Well, the thing that made my review go from 3 to 1 star happened when i went last Sunday. We were heading to blue moon grill but it was closed that day so we went to cappa's instead. I showed up ahead of my party to put our names down for a table. I stood there for 5 minutes waiting for the lady to take my name for a table. She finally came around said it would be a few mins for a table. There was no-one in front of me. I waited for 20 mins. I noticed some people come and get seated so I come in and I see the table She said was mine taken...I'm standing there and she completely ignores me. Some other people come in she goes up to them and asks then how many, they say oh he was here first i say I've been here for 20+ minutes and she says oh I didn't see your party so she gave my table away. I'm like yeah my party is here they live 2 seconds away (they were actually parking). Long story long she wanted me to wait another 20 mins i said no thank you and she practically kicked me out. The service always sucked and I always tipped that old hag 20%. Never coming here again. Luckily we found blue moon grill. read more
